Diocletian's Palace in Split is truly a gem, seamlessly weaving history and aesthetics. The palace's architectural beauty serves as a testament to its rich past, providing visitors with a captivating journey through time. Exploring the shops within the palace reveals a mix of treasures, although some may find them a tad pricey. However, the elevated quality of the items, including a remarkable but relatively expensive ice cream priced at 2.50, justifies the expense. It seems that the taste surpasses the cost, making it a worthwhile indulgence for those with a penchant for exceptional treats. For an optimal experience, I recommend scheduling your visit in the evening. This timing not only allows for a more intimate exploration of the palace's historical significance but also helps avoid the bustling crowds that tend to gather in the middle of the day. A highlight not to be missed is the bell tower. Ascending its heights provides not only a panoramic view of the surroundings but also a unique perspective on the palace itself. It adds an extra layer of charm to the visit, making the exploration of Diocletian's Palace in Split a truly enriching and memorable experience.

Stopped off for a walk around Split old town - about a ten minute walk from the cruise/ferry terminal. Diocletian's Palace is the old walled area- lots of old buildings being renovated/restored which is good to see. Very hot when we went but the old part is quite shaded with narrow streets and lots to explore. There is a good map of what it used to look like situated on the south side with a decent view point of the old wall. The cellars are worth a visit and nice and cool. There was also a market on when we visited (Tuesday) selling local produce mainly fruit and veg but Also touristy as souvenirs.

The palace is not typical like other Roman sites as there are shops and museums in the palace grounds with crowds packing all the main areas even during October time. It is quite impressive and in a prominent sea facing location. You can easily wander around the palace to see the history, architecture shop and get some food to eat. I would recommend the underground tour to see the massive structure below the streets and admire the construction feat. And don't forget to visit the cafes, restaurants and shops in the palace grounds

A fascinating area of Split. Which draws in a lot of tourists. We found it best visited early morning as the foot traffic was less. This allows you to capture the beauty in a more relaxed environment. The streets are beautiful, and some of the alleys are tiny. Just walk round and take it all in. Tickets are needed for attractions such as Bell Tower and Cathedral but elsewhere free. Keep your eyes peeled for faces and artwork on the walls above eye level. There are plenty of places to eat and drink in the area, and it's buzzing with life. Which is also great.

This was such an amazing place to visit and explore. We learned so much history. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Split was an amazing place to visit. We learned about the palace being decorated with numerous 3500 year old granite sphinxes, and now there are only three remaining left. It was supposed to be the retirement home for Diocletian. It was also one of the filming locations for Game of Throne's so that was cool to see as well.

The old city of Split is one of the most wonderful historical cities in the Europe. The labirynth of streets, hidden shortcuts and historical spirit give you a feeling that you are walking in ancient Rome empire. I recommend to walk across streets during day and also to see this beautiful city by night. It's also worth to buy ticket to visit city's attractions - everything in reasonable prices, but experience exceeds expectations.

Great place to jump back in time to Roman era Split. Well preserved structure however it is a very busy spot. Diocletian’s palace covers a wide area and you will find ruins on multiple levels. You will find most of the columns in great state of conservation as well as the original steps and architraves. There is also an Egyptian sphinx on the side of the main nave. It was great that you could also access the underground gallery leading back to the Split promenade and port.

The remains of a huge Roman palace intertwined with medieval buildings and more modern ones. You cannot miss visiting it if you come to Split. Some parts are very well preserved and restored. Others are old and crumbling. Very crowded in the evening. It is difficult to walk through the narrow streets, but worth the trouble nevertheless for the special atmosphere.

A very interesting and historic set of buildings. A real mish mash of different periods and architecture... Egyptian, Roman, middle ages. Highly recommend paying to visit the substructures, hugely impressive underground rooms and tunnels. The whole place is not really a fun place for small children, but adults with time and an interest in history will really enjoy it.

Stunning Roman remains right in the heart of Splits. Most of the palace can be visited for free and there are great views of the harbour when you get to the second level. I also highly recommend checking out the crypt for some more touring but I would stay away for the shops as they're overly expensive and clearly tourist traps.

The palace and grounds are an amazing opportunity to step into the past. A guided tour would take you 2 hours approx but give you a history of the development of the palace and it's many uses. Also, at midday every day there is a small 'welcome' from the acted ruler and soldiers at the door to the palace.

The palace represents the best attraction in Split. It's usually crowded with tourists. There are many shops, bars, restaurants and tourist traps. Sometimes you can see drunken young people. The palace is old and was constructed by Romans a long time ago.

Very beautiful place, even though we didn't buy tickets and only saw everything for the outside - not necessary to visit the museum, you'll enjoy the place anyway. Beware of many people and very hot weather during the summer.

Magical place!! Fell in love with Split on my first day with its narrow cobblestone paved alleyways and relaxed atmosphere with little cafes. Many little shops and a night stroll in the old town is lovely as well.

With all the restored and still standing ruins, the experience makes it magical. The architecture of all the remaining structures from the Baroque period back to the Middle Ages can be seen despite the bombing that occurred during WW2. it was truly a site worth visiting

A place where there are a lot of tourists in the summer. August is hot, but you can always find a shady street. There are a lot of places to eat. You can't write on the streets, there is a fine of 300 euros for this. If it doesn't bother you, you'll like it there. Više

Wonderful to see the amazing roman dry stone walling lasting centuries and for GoT fans the dragon room. Very crowded in the market above but areas of shade. Lovely places to eat. It was opposite our cruise liner stop, but glad to do it with a guide. Više
