The "Nest Stadium" in Beijing, officially known as the Beijing National Stadium, is an iconic sports venue located in the Olympic Green area of Beijing, China. The stadium gained its nickname, the "Bird's Nest," due to its distinctive and innovative architectural design, which resembles a bird's nest with its interwoven steel beams. Key features of the Beijing National Stadium (Bird's Nest) include: 1. Architecture: The Bird's Nest was designed for the 2008 Summer Olympics by a consortium of architects, including Herzog & de Meuron, Arup, and China Architecture Design & Research Group. Its unique design features a web-like pattern of steel beams, giving it a visually striking appearance. 2. Capacity: The stadium has a seating capacity of around 80,000 spectators, making it one of the largest sports venues in the world. 3. Olympic History: The Bird's Nest was the main venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Summer Olympics. It also hosted track and field events, including athletics and football (soccer) matches during the games. 4. Post-Olympic Use: After the Olympics, the stadium has been used for various sporting and cultural events, including football matches, concerts, and other performances. It has become an iconic symbol of Beijing and a popular tourist attraction. 5. Sustainable Design: The Bird's Nest incorporates various sustainable design elements, including rainwater collection, natural ventilation, and energy-efficient systems. It has set an example for environmentally conscious stadium construction. 6. Accessibility: The stadium is easily accessible via public transportation, including the Beijing Subway. It is also located near other Olympic venues, such as the Water Cube (National Aquatics Center). The Beijing National Stadium is not only a symbol of China's modernity and its commitment to hosting major international events but also a testament to innovative architectural design. It continues to be a prominent landmark in Beijing and a popular destination for both sports enthusiasts and tourists interested in its unique architecture.
So we started our day today much like the others. Up by 0700 and after eating are free breakfast and drinking some caffeine (coffee) we are on our way to the subway by 0830. This time we headed to the Temple of Heavens Park Area. This was a nice large green grass park area with more sights to see. During our walk through the area we concentrate on seeing the Harvest Halls. Then the Seven Stones. Shortly after that we went to the Wangfujing Shopping Mall. We had some Starbucks and walked around. It seemed to be very expensive compared to our malls in the states. The overall impression was that I was underdressed and underpaid. We then got back on the subway and went to the Beijing Zoo. Of course, the first animal we wanted to see was the Giant Panda. After the zoo we went back to the hotel to rest and get some plans together again. Then we went back to the silk market to get some more souvenirs and bought some last minute deals before boarding the planes. Then we headed straight to the Olympic site to see the infamous cube and the birds nest. Timing was great. Only waited about an hour for total darkness to watch everything light up at night. Took lots of photos and we even flew some kind on miniature kites there. After that we decided to take a cab back to save some time. We pay around 70 yaun for it. It just helped us realize how much money we saved all week by using the subway system. Then we got some local meat chicken stick and had noodles, rice and the pot stickers in the hotel room. Packed up some clothes for tomorrow and waited for the final and biggest tourist spot of them all! Our guide called and we are heading to the great wall tomorrow morning at 0800. It was a birthday wish and life long goal of mine for several years now... It is coming true tomorrow. Thanks be to God!

The Bird's Nest sometimes has some extra temporary large screens installed at the stands of the stadium.
My wife and I visited the Bird's Nest Stadium at the end of a two-week guided tour of China. It was our final day, and we used the Beijing subway to get to the Olympic Park. Entry to the stadium was by ticket, purchased on the day. I recall thinking it was extremely good value. Walk through the lobbies to see memorabilia from the Games opening and closing ceremonies. You can get right down to the side of the running track where Usain Bolt and others waited for the start gun. This is a huge stadium, and the views are unbelievable. On days with good weather, there is a walk onto the roof (check on site for details). If you have free time in Beijing, this is a highly-recommended visit.

It is located in the Olympic Forest Park at Beijing. The stadium is built in the shape of a nest of a bird, hence it is known as "Bird's Nest Stadium". The Beijing Olympic Games, 2008 took place here and it will host 2022 winter olympic games too. There is very spacious and eye-soothing open space around the stadium. There are monuments around where people gather, loiter and take photos frequently. At the other side, you will notice the office of IBM and area for swimming.
As others have stated this Stadium is known as "Birds Nest Stadium" and is located on the heart of Olympic park. We did not go inside of the stadium itself but we did see it from the outside and we loved it. It is a very unique stadium and the lights at night take it to a higher level of beautiful. I hope you are able to see it at night, of you have time in your Brijing trip I would recommend taking an hour or two to check out this facility
Its distinctive bird's nest-like structure is a sight to behold. The stadium's vast expanse and modern design make it a world-class venue for sporting events and concerts. The atmosphere during matches is electric, with enthusiastic fans creating an unforgettable ambiance. Visiting the National Stadium is a remarkable experience that showcases China's passion for sports and innovation.
One of the most top notch infrastructure in the world. The stadium is well lit and there are all required facilities available. The Olympic park subway station is present nearby. The park is one of the best you can see in Beijing. Greenery and the views are really stunning. Also, you can get tickets for viewing the top of the stadium at night (will cost around 80-100 CNY)
At first I thought this place nothing worth to come then I realize I was wrong. Very happening place around the stadium with stalls selling food and beverages around. Its literally a night market here. Outdoor activities such as rollerblading can be carried here. Heaven for kids! Suggest to come at evening to enjoy the vibrant colour of the bird nest stadium!
The national stadium has a very impressive architecture and was held the Summer Olympic Games in 2008 - it’ll be also the host for the Winter Olympic Games in 2022. Please be advised to go thru the checkpoints “without” buying a ticket cuz the ticket for the so called “birds nest” is in front of the National stadium and costs u 80 Yuan.
Definitely worth a visit. The Olympic grounds are huge. Amazing and creative architecture which is a must to see at night as its beautifully lit up. There is also a shopping mall on site and locals gather together for social gatherings like tango dance classes, yoga, etc. Best of all, it’s all free!
Great place to take picture, very large and you have to walk quite far to the metro, I get there after the tour from Mutianyu great wall I bought tour from Klook and this is one of their drop off point in the way back and it's easy to get back to the city by metro l, very nice
Very beautiful architecture, one of the most aesthetically pleasing stadiums in the world. Across from it is the National Aquatics center where Michael Phelps an Olympic record 8 gold medals during the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. It's a lot nicer at night.
This center is where the 2008 Olympic games held, the Bird Nest in Beijing. Originally, I planned to go inside for a sight view, but there’s a concert in it, so I just walked around the Bird Nest, taking a few photos of the structure from outside.

Facinating building. Located very near to subway, easy to reach here. A lot of locals are having their walk and chilling in front of this stadium. You can see the youngsters are practicing long board as this area is pretty huge and spacious.
An amazing display of architecture, the iconic nest bird is really beautiful, really close to the water's cube. Brings greats memories and a nice visit. I recommend visit in the evening since you can see it with illuminated.
Worth a look if you like the Olympics. Get the full tour and walk on the roof. You read that correctly. 110 local currency. Iconic structure. You can get lost as the exit point is very small compared to the stadium.
Commonly known as Bird Nest Stadium. Quite beautiful to see it lights up at night. It is also more cooling to go at night. Didn't manage to go in but took walks around the stadium. Can drop by if interested.
It a steel structure of Olympian significance but there is nothing much to do here and the views up at the roof of the stadium is not fantastic either. If you're in a rush for time you could skip this.

Although I wasn't able to go inside of it, the view from the outside is pretty appealing to the eye. Who would have thought that a bird's nest would have been the inspiration for a stadium!?

Also called the Bird's nest. It's a stunning piece of architecture with just a short walk from the nearest subway station. Lights up with beautiful displays at night. Highly recommended!
Very nice architecture in big spaces that also gets VERY crowded at night and the metro station’s nearby are impacted with them. The buildings take life at sundown.
I didn't manage to visit inside of bird's nest as it close at 5pm during off season, just look around the outer part of birds nest, walking distance with water cube
Gigantic Dome of all domes! Beautiful architectural marvel. I only saw it during the daytime, so I would have liked to seen it lit up at night too.
This is the perfect example of architect made up of stainless steel. This is a huge structure of steel steel imported from India Jindal steel
The national stadium is one among the great Architecture building around the world. Lots of people come to visit here even in winter season.
Unfortunately the stadium is showing signs of wear and tear. It's a shame it hasn't been maintained but it's still worth a visit.
