A very busy, but fairly efficient consulate. There are two lines, one for U.S. Citizens, and one for everyone else. The U.S. Citizen line is very short and fast. The other line .. not so much. It may have just been the people in line at the time I was there, but the American side of the line, while short, was filled with rude and impatient Americans. The other line, was much longer, but polite, patient, and calm. As an American, I was slightly appalled, yet proud and thankful to be a citizen of a country where we are free enough to be jerks without fear of prison. Overall, my visit was slow-ish, but that is to be expected from any visit to a government office with long lines. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Another comment mentioned that everyone there was Chinese. That's totally inaccurate. There were several Chinese-Americans working there, but they all spoke perfect English.

start of my journey to the whole world if i never visited the consulate to get the visa and visited usa, idk where i will be now, probably some university in china struggling with physics or whatever, but probably in a more normal track, similar to the majority but i dont regret seeing the outside world tho, its just different, and only oneself cound judge the value of the difference really no one knows about the future and just hope for the best the consulate general is right outside a metro station (usually super crowded on weekdays), and usually outside the consulate it is extremely crowded, let alone in rainy days. you will only be allowed to enter the consulate and do your bussiness after some very long and complex procedures, so be mentally prepared for long queues and many security checks and waiting, and get your documents done beforehand!!!! good luck

Extremely terrible service. I am an applicant of F1 visa. The Chinese staff outside the building were rude to me. They said my visa photo was not acceptable, because of blabla. They asked me to use their photo booth to take a photo, which costs a lot. That's fine. I took the photo with the "official" photo booth. Then the staff told me "Your ears do not show up well on the photo, and you need to take new ones". It really angered me, because my ears look that naturally. I argued with them "Someone with different ears is not allowed to apply for a visa?" They finally let me in. But I feel really discriminated by these rude staff. I have applied for visa in Beijing and Shanghai US Consulate. This ridiculous thing never happened to me before. If you can, avoid this horrible place!!

FIRST of all, the US consulate has terrible service because they don't seem to tell you anything. Also, they have some questionable decor that makes me immensely uncomfortable. While I had no issues with certain staff members, it was overall an unpleasant experience.

I made a notary appointment and Sarah Healey, the representative who helped me, was very helpful and professional. All the other employees were also similarly helpful. The building itself is impressive on the interior, and it's easy to get from place to place.

2015年申请10年商务旅行签证的时候登记了之前的一本护照丢失，结果领事馆记录成现有的护照丢失，导致入境美国的时候被移民馆带去小黑屋调查。最终查清楚情况后允许入境。 回国后向领事馆汇报了情况，希望更正错误，收到回复说护照丢失的记录已经撤销。 一直到今年2018年第二次去美国之前，EVUS更新签证，被告知护照记录是丢失状态，需要联系中国护照发证机关撤销丢失记录。 这时，机票已经订好，距离出发还有三天，不知道还能不能成行…… 没想到美国领事馆也有这么不靠谱……

Sloppy and disorganised. Staff cannot speak English, and gave me contradictory directions as to where I should go. Even though I am a US citizen, its very hard to get into the consulate.

Stole our money and didn't do their job of processing our visa. Now, we have to pay for EVERYTHING all over again. Haven't had so much grief before in my life. Horrible...

Went here to get a new passport. Staff I talked to were fine as far as embassies are. Didn't run into any problems or delays, and received helpful information.

Cannot get ahold of anyone at the consulate. No one awnsers the phone you just get a message that tells u to go to a crappy website that does not help

90% of the people working there are Chinese Would think speaking with an American at the American consulate would be an easy process

It's an embassy where they do immigration visa interviews. My wife said the people were very nice, the staff was helpful.
