Dan was our waiter and he was wonderful. He was very polite and friendly, and even took the time to ask us all if we had any diet or allergy issues. 3/4 of us had Fish & Chips, which was very good. I recommend that if you don't like lots of salt on your fries, to order them with no salt and add your own. The 4th person in our party had the Mediterranean Chicken Wrap with fries and really enjoyed it. Desserts were delicious, Coconut Cream Pie and the dessert of the day (Nice spongy flan cake with a peach sauce), both were very good. Unfortunately, due yo weather n not having a reservation, we had to sit in the bar area, which was a little loud due to being crowded. They need to invest in a blender for cocktails. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience again.

Quaint restaurant in a quaint town (Manotick). No nice views of the water (just the street where loud fire trucks can go by) BUT they do have a patio so you can enjoy the nice outdoor weather. French cuisine. Prices were mid to high (def not cheap eats). The staff were super friendly and service was fast. We ordered the beef short ribs- BEST short ribs I’ve ever had in my life and I’ve eaten a lot of short ribs lol. So so tender and fall off the bone...and the sauce was sweet and sticky. The cut was bit on the fatty side but that’s my kind of cut...I know some people don’t like that at all so worth mentioning. We will be coming back for the short ribs! The beat salad was a “so-so” for me. Not the best portion or flavours for the price. The beef tar tar was delicious with the extra spicy mustard-without it would be bland. It came with shredded boiled egg not a raw yoke on top. I prefer the yoke on top compared to the boiled egg but glad I got to try a different version of beef tar tar. The Portobello mushroom with spinach and artichoke was super yummy -complemented well with the beef tar tar and fresh bread that came with the tar tar. Not pretty to look at but tastes really nice (creamy). Would highly recommend for small groups for lunch and romantic dinner out.

Beware of the online booking system. I booked our dinner reservations online a month in advance assuming we would be in the dining room, white linen tables. No where online does it give any options for dining or pub, leading me to believe we would be seated in the dining room. Imagine how disappointed we were, after waiting 20 minutes for our reservation, to then be put in the noisy pub. NOT the atmosphere we wanted for our annual get together which meant we couldn’t hear each other over the noise! And definitely not what we dressed up for!! The Cheshire Cat’s online reservation will allow you to choose the upstairs or the main floor. Something clearly the Black Dog needs to look into. It spoiled our evening with no attempt made by the owner to explain or make right. We weren’t left with a carafe of water and had to flag down a waitress. Hardly the atmosphere for fine dining!! Won’t be our first choice for dining out again.

Refined, renowned small town bistro. Lovely service upon entering. Comfortable, spacious dining area. It was quite busy when we went but we were able to get a table without a reservation. Our server was Shaylee, and she was very attentive and helpful. Had the Lobster Mac and Cheese, the fish tacos, and chicken wrap, which were all good-sized and tasty. The pokebowl was very big and tasted just as anticipated. The chicken Cobb salad with feta was really impressive. The fried chicken breast with a Buffalo style hot sauce added an interesting aspect to a fresh Cobb salad which had plenty of feta and just enough dressing. I couldn't even finish the serving it was so large! Shared the Peanut Butter cup for dessert and that may have been the best part. It was rich but not too sweet. The meal was not inexpensive but didn't seem overpriced when considering the quality and quantity. We had such a pleasant experience that we bought a gift certificate for our friends that day.

This restaurant promises good food but fails to deliver value for money. Our experience was lacklustre, and the portions for starters and apps were laughable. If it weren't for the gift card, we would have been very upset. On the upside, the patio seating was delightful. However, our order of shrimp and Manotick fries left much to be desired. We received only 4 medium shrimp and a handful of fries without dips. Our server then disappeared until it was time for the bill, and although the tenderloin was good, my wife's medium-rare was more medium-well. At least my rare steak was cooked perfectly. The sides with the mains were tasty but, again, sparse. We didn't bother discussing the issues with the server when she did finally appear with the bill as I was thoroughly annoyed by this point.

Went there Thanksgiving weekend Saturday. The atmosphere was very nice and friendly staff was nice too. In laws had streak fries, and they liked it, kids had usual chicken fingers and fries, no complaints from them. I had lamb shank, was ok, nothing special, but my wife had the Paella was salty, but that wasn't the main issue. A couple hours after eating at the restaurant, my wife started having stomach cramps and then spent the rest of the evening in the bathroom with food poisoning. Ruined our weekend as she was left with no energy for the rest of the weekend. Hopefully, it is just a one-off for this very nice-looking restaurant, but it's a disappointing ending, especially for the price. If you are going, recommend skipping the Paella.

What's an AMAZING food and service and place in general to have an Amazing meal!!! The server was great and friendly... The seating area was comfortable and clean and the atmosphere is great!! We had 7 different plates and we all did a bit of sharing and what an amazing experience!! The Artichoke Dip is heavenly and soooo tasty! The calamari were done and fried to perfection The fish and ships are AMAZING and taste soooo fresh and barely fried... So their crispy, tender and super juicy on the inside! The RIBs... Oh boyyy Baton Rouge has nothing on them!! And they're gluten free!!! The Ceasar Salad was sooo great and the Bacon was amazing and home made! The Saumon and the Special Chicken Special of the Day was soooo great! Definitely worth the price and the drive!! You won't be disappointed! Enjoy

First things first....the service here was top notch...especially from our server Megan!! Very nice atmosphere like everyone says....great for a family dinner or date night . Now on to the food....we had the beef tartar which was good but could've used a bit more seasoning, calamari was good but we should've asked for the sauce on the side so our bad. The Brie was huge...wasn't expecting that so good surprise. The lamb shank was also a very big portion so bring your appetite but like the tartar, could've used just a tad more seasoning. Overall, this was a great experience and we will definitely be back to try out the rest of the menu. Enjoy

Shameful. Had a 5pm reservation for a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids) for my wife's 40th birthday. Outings are few and far between with 2 small children. The restaurant and patio were empty when we arrived. My beer, our appetizer (cauliflower wings) and kids meals arrived on time. One hour passes (from when we ordered our food) before our meals arrived (2 burgers). We had to take it to go as the kids were getting fussy. They still managed to get my meal wrong. Only tipped 5%... For the beer. The beer was good. This had to be the worst dinning experience we've had in over 5 years. It may have been a one off but it was enough to turn us away from this restaurant for good.

I have dined here multiple times over the years and the food and service is consistently top notch. Last night we each had the braised lamb shank and it was incredible. The vegetables were perfect and the lamb shank generous size and cooked to perfection in a sauce that is incredible. The owner Dot greeted us on arrival and the service was very good despite being busy. And despite being very busy the Black Dog manages to cozy relaxing. We will definitely visit more often, this was our first post pandemic visit.

Went for lunch on October 31st . I ordered the Cobb salad and although most of the ingredients were good the chicken and salad were covered in 3/4 cup of Tabasco sauce ruining it. My husband’s fish& chips were pale white/beige in colour and they forgot the tartar sauce also no vegetables or coleslaw was included with this white/beige meal . After the meal we ordered cappuccinos and they were only lukewarm also one of the cups wasn’t even 1/2 full. We didn’t complain at the time of service because we had a guest with us . I have had good meals at the Black Dog before but today the chef was not on his game .

The restaurant has a great atmosphere and is located on a nice street in manotick. The night we went the server was very friendly but the service was very slow. Food arrived cold and dry. Heard a lot about their crispy chicken sandwiches and recommended it to my party visiting from out of town. Chicken was dry and hard to eat. 7 people who ordered it were very disappointed. Could be an off night. Someone else ordered salmon and another ordered fish tacos and they were happy. If it wasn’t for the food quality my rating would be much different.

Always enjoy the food, and most of the staff are great. Recently had a bit of an issue though and it doesn't seem like they care hence the review. We booked reservations two weeks in advance, they called me 2 days before and the day of to confirm my reservation. When we showed up, the staff informed me I did not have a reservation. We showed the staff the multiple phone calls from their phone number to no resolution. The manager that was on staff did not seem to care and sent us on our way... Enjoyed the experience at this pub. Service was really good, they held doors open for patrons, attentive staff, courteous. Decor and layout of the restaurant was inviting, and they have an great patio. I ordered the calamari which was ok, and the steak/ceasar salad for lunch. The steak was absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The ceasar salad was really tasty, and I enjoyed the idea of bread crumbs rather than croutons, a nice touch. My date had a hearty salad which she really enjoyed too. The prices were high, 92$ altogether for lunch for two people (1 beer each) which was a bit of a shocker. I might go back but again prices a bit steep.

My partner and I had dinner here last night for our anniversary and it was hands down one of the best restaurant experiences we’ve ever had in Ottawa. The food was incredible, the service was amazing and the restaurant had such a lively and warm vibe. I ordered the short rib and my partner ordered the lamb. Both dishes were so well balanced and delicious and the portions were surprising large. Our server was so lovely and timed our meal and check ins so well. Overall, just such a wonderful experience and we cannot wait to go back!

Interesting interpretation of what a paella is. Unfortunately, it was absolutely horrendous. It is essentially rice pilaf mixed in with some tomato marinara, topped with an assortment of meats and seafood. This makes me wonder if any of the kitchen staff have actually had paella before, or know what it should taste like. Maybe they are confused and mislabeled the Jambalaya. At a steep price of $35, I shudder at the thought that this is the only opportunity some people might have at eating paella

The food was great but the service was off on our visit. We had a party of 7 and all ordered pricey mains. My sister gave special directions to put her fries on the side. It didn't come that way. When I ordered another glass of wine it took way too long. I'll admit they were busy but still. The Black Dog is often our restaurant of choice for special celebrations. This is the first time we had a bad experience. My friend (the birthday girl) ordered the Cobb Salad, which she could not eat because the breaded and over-spiced chicken overwhelmed all the other good flavors . My fish tacos were cold and tasteless. We informed the waiter who offered us a free dessert, which seemed an inadequate response. Sorry to be so disappointed.

Good vegetarian options.. a wider selection of sweet wines would be a bonus. Back patio is so relaxing.. only negative thing I can say about the Black Dog is the jazz/blues music on the outdoor patios is TOO LOUD.. very distracting, making it difficult to have a conversation.. turning the volume down would make a huge difference... other than that.... This bistro was recommended to us by a local at the Watson Mill. We went and were pleased we did. It has great decor and plenty of additional patio seating at the back and side. Reservations are taken, but they keep walk in tables which is nice because the place filled out by 5:30. The menu isn't extensive or too pricey, and should cater to most choices. We were quite pleased with our menu choices, the beer, and the wine list. Shannon, our server, helped to make the experience memorable.

If you happen to be in Manotick, definately check out The Black Dog otherwise make a point of going either way. Excellent food and atmosphere accompanied by friendly service. I had the Lamb Shank which was beautifully prepared and tasted amazing. My wife had the Steak and Fries which was also very good. As an appetizer we had the French Onion soup and Cauliflower wings which were also very good. Great job by all the staff, front and back of the house. We will definately be back.

Went for lunch today with a friend. It was my first time there. Very nice atmosphere and wonderful service. I had the salmon burger which was delicious and the best sweet potato fries I've ever had. My friend had the special which was Salisbury steak and enjoyed it. We managed to save room for dessert. Both the sticky toffee cake and coconut cream pie were terrific. I'll definitely be back for a dinner.

The food here is consistently good, and reasonably priced. It has a nice atmosphere, if not a bit loud at times. Update: went yesterday as part of phase 1 reopening. They've added some delightful new items to their menu, and old favourites remain. Staff is just as awesome as always. Remember to be patient, as they've had an influx of people who missed their patio. Try the blackberry gin smash. It was fantastic and perfectly refreshing for a reintroduction to patio season

We're new to Manotick and stumbled across this warm and welcoming little restaurant. It's become our weekly date night spot for drinks and dinner. The staff are always friendly and professional. The menu has good variety and everything we've tried has been delicious. Sticky toffee pudding is amazing!!!

A family favourite - the Black Dog Bistro never fails to disappoint. The portions are perfect and the atmosphere and decor are the cherry on top. The Lamb special was easy to cut into and just the right amount of gamy. We ordered the Crispy Chicken Burger for the first time and were pleasantly shocked at how massive it was! If you're looking to split a meal with your loved one or friend, look no further than this dish. Looking forward to next time.

The food and atmosphere here are incredibly good. It is our go-to place for a special night out with friends or date night (saw lots of those here). My baked squash curry was so good I almost couldn’t speak for a few minutes. They certainly don’t need my 5 stars but here it is!

Hard to find anything wrong with this place. Amazing food and large portion sizes. Service was a bit slow but it was busy and felt worth the wait. The house BBQ sauce is awesome. It is a little pricey but I dont think its unreasonable. Draft list could be better but the cocktails and wine were great. Make sure you make a reservation we tried to go without one a few times and it can be a long wait for a table.

Called those restaurant to see if they accommodate large groups even of divided in 2 tables. Lady on the phone was extremely rude saying no they won't serve us. After I asked if we could be seated in 2 tables..she said..Maaaam we can't help you and hung up. Will never try and will not recommend to my friends.

Adorable and delicious just scratches the surface (or should I say gives a good belly rub?) for the Black Dog. Super variety in terms of vegan, meat, gluten free options and if you want a beverage, there’s a great selection or they’ll whip you up a virgin version! It’s clear how much love has gone into this place, with lots of the costumers pooches displayed all over. Can’t recommend this place enough!

This is a great spot for lunch. I got the burger and fries and it was absolutely delicious. The burger tasted kind of peppery. I really like the small fries with a little salt and ketchup. The menu was quite extensive and had something for everyone. The price was quite reasonable for a burger and fries. The establishment looks very new and has a homely atmosphere to it. I'd definitely return.

A true gem in Manotick. The Black Dog is very welcoming with several host ready to take you in. The service is often top notch and very knowledgeable. The food is amazing, I’ve had most things on menu and have not been disappointed. Love the Cobb salad and the ribs. A go to for sure.

Greeted by Martha, sitting on the large patio was the perfect choice for todays weather. I chose one of my favourites, the Cubano Sandwich. Check the photo for the size, huge mounds of roasted ham and pork meat, bread and butter pickles and a hoagie roll. Delish, filling flavours right to the max. Thank you for this superb experience!

Been going here for years. Sometimes it's super and sometimes just okay. Depends on the energy of the night. I've never been disappointed by the meal selection but the mains are poultry free.

A great spot in the quaint town of Manotick. The menu isn't huge but most things are done really well. Their ribs fall of the bone, the cheese platters are great for sharing and the shoe string fries are perfect with any entrée. The staff is friendly and helpful, happy to offer advice and details about the dishes.

Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff even when super busy. I ordered the Salmon burger and the pad Thai. Pad Thai was excellent, lots of taste to it. The salmon burger was good but the bun became soggy very quick, making the burger very messy... maybe a thicker bun would work better. Altogether a 5 stars experience.

Chicken was so dry and actually really hard to chew. It was not worth $22... I enjoyed the salad and the dressing that came with it. Service was very slow for Saturday lunch

Absolutely an Amazing Restaurant with a beautiful interior, patio and friendly staff. The Food is soooo yummy and large portions worth the price and drive to try it out! Can't wait to go back!

Excellent attentive and friendly service. Not as large a selection on menu as we would have liked. Our meals were all done to a "T". Price was competitive. Wine price per glass, over the top! Cheaper to buy bottle.

The patio space is perfect for a outdoor meal. The girls and I stopped by for lunch today and it was delicious. The service was great, food was great and location is ideal! We can’t wait to stop by again and try out the other items on the menu.

This was our first visit and we were pretty blown away by how good the food was. Tartare, crab cake and escargot flatbread were all outstanding. And our server Grace was excellent. And the patio is dog friendly. We will be back soon! More

We went with a large group for lunch and everyone’s meals were delicious. I had the paella which was new on menu and it had lots of good stuff. We also tried the salmon, wraps and ribs. Wine was reasonable too. Staff was friendly. More

Delicious! A bit pricey but everything is homemade and the ingredients are generous (nice thick bacon slices on my chicken burger). It was quite busy so there was a wait from the kitchen but service was good. I would return.

Great food and you can take your dogs. Huge win for the atmosphere anywhere if you ask me.
