"Being born and raised in City heights I've seen so much good and bad changes to our neighborhood"
"Overall Impression: Like everyone else has already mentioned, this place is amazing"
"Literally so overpriced for such small portions, i get its a small business but really? the owner is super rude and i was always a usual customer and he would tell me that "our coffee is a little more overpriced than star bucks because ours is more natural" i did not know what starbucks was until my daughters introduced me and we started going to starbucks more than caffeina because it was cheaper and genuinly better, after 1 year or 2 that i stopped going to caffeina i wanted to know how the owner was doing and he was beyond disrespectful but when new customers came in he started acting all sweet to them?? i know its not that big of a deal but if you want a successful growing business you need to be equal and sweet to your customers regardless"
"Cafeina Cafe is a new coffee house located in City Heights"
"If I could give this place more stars I would! Me and my girlfriend have officially found our new favorite spot ! The space has such an amazing vibe about it "
Being born and raised in City heights I've seen so much good and bad changes to our neighborhood. Going to Cafeina and talking to the owner Andrew made me feel so proud to have someone who also was born and raised in the neighborhood making a positive impact to the heart of the city. Andrew's story about being formally in the medical field and now really pursuing his passion with his beautiful coffee shop was inspiring! The coffee shop wasn't just aesthetically pleasing but the coffee was amazing. Andrew nailed it with his recipes. I got the mazapan latte over iced with almond milk. It was perfect! Andrew even broke it down what he thought would be best in this drink for me. Great guy, great energy, super kind human and makes you feel so comfortable in his shop. I bought a shirt from the shop as well! I had to support plus the design was super cool! Told all my friends that grew up in that neighborhood to go check him out. We are all business professionals who love to drink coffee and take meetings at coffee shops. What better way to do it in a place where we once learned how to skateboard and ride a bike two blocks away! Thank you Andrew for being a positive influence to our community! Can't wait to come back this week!
Overall Impression: Like everyone else has already mentioned, this place is amazing. The only "critique" that I have is that parking is difficult to find. :) But everything was pretty top knotch. +1 stars Quality of Food: I ordered an Earl Grey Lavender Latte. It tasted creamy and none of the tastes overpowered one another. I love how all the flavors are rooted in the Mexican culture and I was excited to go back and try some flavors. +1 stars Price for Food: Normal coffee prices. About 4-5 dollars for a drink. I would rather support a small business than a big franchise like Starbucks, even if I could get "stars" than a deal from Starbucks Location/Ambience: When I first arrived, I wasn't impressed. There were no tables or chairs inside (probably due to COVID) and then I noticed that there was a doorway to the back go coffee shop and it was sooo cute! It has chairs, painted skulls, and a great cafe with vibrant colors that made it very relaxing to sit it. +2 stars Staff/Service: The day I went it was a one man show. The same guy took my order, made my drink, and handled other customers simultaneously. Through all of this, it never appeared that he was stressed out. +1 stars
Literally so overpriced for such small portions, i get its a small business but really? the owner is super rude and i was always a usual customer and he would tell me that "our coffee is a little more overpriced than star bucks because ours is more natural" i did not know what starbucks was until my daughters introduced me and we started going to starbucks more than caffeina because it was cheaper and genuinly better, after 1 year or 2 that i stopped going to caffeina i wanted to know how the owner was doing and he was beyond disrespectful but when new customers came in he started acting all sweet to them?? i know its not that big of a deal but if you want a successful growing business you need to be equal and sweet to your customers regardless.

Cafeina Cafe is a new coffee house located in City Heights. The venue is spacious enough for pets to rest, and for little ones to vroom their cars along without bumping other customers. The space allows for a nice breeze for when it's hot outside, the bathroom is well maintained (smells good too) and there is wifi. Most importantly after a few other visits: the coffee is great. You can enjoy the brews hot or iced, and they offer specialty brews as well like Mazapan and Horchata Lattes. If you want to add a snack to the mix, they also serve fresh pan dulce provided by local bakeries as well as natural organic ice cream for those who love it. What really makes this place special to me is that there are non-dairy options as well. The grand opening was July 20th, and I am glad to have experienced Cafeina Cafe!
If I could give this place more stars I would! Me and my girlfriend have officially found our new favorite spot ! The space has such an amazing vibe about it ... open, plenty of seating, even an outdoor oasis with passion fruit growing in their garden. The coffee is top tier not only do they use high quality beans but they also use very high quality milk alternatives ( this makes a huge difference in taste / texture for non- dairy drinkers)... you can tell they make each individual drink with so much care and attention to detail. I’ve also never experienced this type of quality at a reasonable price point, their prices are great. Thank you caffeina for filling my soul with so much more than just a morning coffee. A true hidden gem in the heart of city heights.
I kept a gift card for this place that I won sometime ago, to use it for a time when I would be around the area. Well, the opportunity came out after a medical appointment, and the experience was a sweet reward. Cafeína café is a cozy, interesting little cafe full of pleasant scrumptious surprises. As soon as you entered to the location you can fell a nice peaceful atmosphere where people gather to study, use their laptops, or just enjoy a delicious tea, pastry or original ice cream, such as mazapán, arroz con leche, chocolate mexicano, etc. The staff is really friendly and courteous. There are two parking spaces in front where you can park for 15 minutes, but you'll need to look for a parking space around it if you plan to stay for more time... It's worth it.
My favorite thing to do on the weekends is explore coffee shops. It's been 2 years since I discovered this gem and it's still my #1 in San Diego! Amazing, kind people work here, coffee is delicious (and always keeps improving!), the place is colorful and beautiful, comfy outside area, and it's always felt very comfortable for me. That Mexican touch is my favorite- especially their signature lattes! I love coming here to do work, chill with friends, and bringing new people in! Again, my #1 and has stayed my #1!!

Awesome chai. Also excellent coffee with a ton of care to detail. Food items are carefully selected and of high quality. Everything here is excellent quality and tastes great AND the owners have a conscientiousness and consciousness about what they are doing and their community. Every time I come here I'm glad I did.

An eclectic artsy and chill coffee experience. A relaxing shaded back patio for a great study or sit n sip coffee experience. Delicious uniquely crafted coffees, beverages, ice cream, and other yummy treats. Artistically designed with candy skulls and original vintage coffee tapestries. A best hidden gem in City Heights of San Diego! I had their scrumptious Horchata Cold Brew, with an extra shot of bold espresso, fantastic!!!

My SIL brought me an oreo concha and a mazapan latte from this place. The latte was perfectly lightly sweetened, with a pleasantly toasty nutty flavor. The concha - well, I thought I didn't like conchas, because in Cancun and at Northgate, I only found ones with overly-sweet, soft toppings. Maybe it's a timing/freshness thing? This is the first time I've had a concha with such a crispy top and a flavorful, structured, chewy brioche-like inside. By far the best concha I've ever had - it's given me hope that there are other good conchas out there.
Never, ever, EVER have I had a bad drink from here. The drink offerings are unique and all taste phenomenal. The coffee in and of itself is of high quality and they actually take care of their espresso machine (you know because the drinks don't have that bitter/sour aftertaste that comes from burnt espresso). The bonus is that the entire staff is super kind and welcoming even if you go every other day . Also a great study spot in the back if you want good coffee, pastries, and/or Niederfrank's superb ice cream. Highly recommend!
Best mexican mocha in town. Super cute patio area. Delicious baked goods. They have some interesting specialty drinks if you've got a more adventurous palate. So extremely affordable that I kind of feel they should be charging more. The owner seems to be really invested in supporting other local small businesses, so they sometimes host mini markets, and everything I've purchased at one so far has also rocked. Street parking only, but still much easier than most other coffee shops in central SD.

Great place! Got the Affogato with Mazapan ice cream, not too sweet but more for like a fun drink not an actual morning coffee. Sister got the Bueno Dias and that was amazing and also not too sweet. They use James Coffee Co beans, which is a favorite when visiting the SD area. Oh and get the Mantecada Concha! Sooooo good!!!

This coffee shop is tucked away, hiding just steps away from University. Upon arriving, you're greeted by a cultural impression that is pervasive. I usually enjoy Mochas, so I tried the Mexican Mocha. It was very well done, actually one of the best I've tried in San Diego. Additionally, they don't charge as much as some of the other more popular local chains. I definitely will be back again.

Nice little local place serving coffee with q Latino twist. Mexican michas, mazapan coffee, etc. They were out of some options when we ordered (nitro and matcha) but what we ordered tasted good. Bit expensive for the size you get though and parking is an issue since this shop is located at a residential street. Would go again. Didn't ch CK out the patio they have in the back, too hot.

Been wanting to visit this place before we moved out here and...we finally did today! Definitely gonna come back here and try out the other drinks and food items. My husband and I got some delish cold brews but the La Catrina (ice cream concha sandwich) stole our hearts! We got the horchata ice cream inside of a choco concha, with a choc and caramel drizzle and mazapan bits for topping. Always support local!
Came here with my girlfriend yesterday for the first time, and I’m back a second time today. Excellent coffee , delicious vegan pastries. Awesome vibe inside and serene patio in the back. Perfect for bringing your laptop to work , or hanging out. And they have a little free book exchange box, so bring a book you’d like to share with others and trade it out for a new-to-you read. Love this place.
I’m a local City Heights resident and this is my local hidden gem coffee spot. I’ve been coming since they opened in 2019. Their espressos and coffees are always on dial. Great customer service! Make sure to check out the back patio. Their cortados and their cold Colombian specialty coffee is a must. Also, get some of their wicked ice cream flavor options to have on site or to go
Cool cafe with inspired espresso drinks, refreshers, and ice cream. The horchata latte was all right, but I’d probably opt for something a little less unusual next time—the latte had a crazy amount of cinnamon. The cucumber-lime refresher was pretty good, not too sweet. It’s a nice place to hangout with friends.

I had a gift card for this place(Cafeinna). When i asked the young entrepreneur Andrew to check the balance on the gift card he was very professional about it. This place is very hip and cultural plus the coffee is awsome. Andrew is a City Heights local and i will definitely support this really cool place. No more star bucks for me! Check it out guaranteed you'll love CAFEINNA.
Such a cute spot! Both indoors and outdoors provide a relaxing experience. Probably one of the best Mexican Mochas I have had ( on ice w/ Oatmilk) . Will always visit whenever I am on this side of San Diego .

This place is an absolute gem! Love the vibe and love the coffee! I had the horchata cold brew, which was delicious. Everyone is super friendly. I really enjoyed the outdoor patio space, perfect for getting some work done when the home office gets a bit tiring or when you just want to enjoy a nice day. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town!
This coffee shop is a must try if you’re in San Diego! You will be welcomed by friendly staff. All of their drinks all so delicious! Such a great coffee shop to relax and have some coffee with your friends and pet as they offer patio sitting to enjoy the SD Weather.

I love this cafe! Andrew (The owner) is the nicest and continuously provides stellar customer service. Their Mexican Mocha is so far my favorite drink because you can really taste the chocolate in it. Plus, their ice creams are the best! So tasteful and natural, so far I have tried the Horchata and Mazapan ice creams.
I ordered a Mazapán iced latte! There are other items on the menu that have me intrigued to revisit this cafe. They have a closed off patio in the back with a small book shelf selection for those who love to read. Off-street parking in City Heights.

Definitely got my hopes up coming here, but the Mexican mocha was very weak and just tasted bland. I like to support up and coming coffee shops like these but it failed on the execution. I’ve had real authentic Mexican mocha close to the boarder and this place didn’t even come close.

I am visiting home for the first time in over a year and a half because of the ‘rona. My sister mentioned this place and I had to check it out. I walked over and nearly missed it but I am glad I went. The decor is amazing. I ordered the Mocha Mexicano. Hands down the best version of this drink I have had.

Ordered a large cafe de olla ($4)and the girl gave me a small after I paid. When I asked for the correct size she poured my small into a larger cup and then a ton of some sort of syrup into it. Sickeningly sweet and fake tasting. Won't be back.

Great locally-roasted James Coffee, pan dulcet, and ice cream. Vegan options, tasty and creative specialty drinks, and friendly service. Andrew, the owner, grew up and lives in City Heights and is very involved with the neighborhood and community. I'm glad to support this type of small business.

Small business coffee and ice cream shop. The ice cream is delicious and fresh, they have jamaica, horchata, mazapan, strawberry, and others. Perfect place to study or enjoy a coffe with friends. The coffee is cheaper and better than Starbucks. This is my new weekend coffee shop. Must try!
Just discovered this gem. Stopped in and was greeted with a smile and pleasantly surprised to find they served James coffee. Met the owner, Andrew, and loved hearing more about the shop. Support your local business! Will definitely be coming back. Great coffee/atmosphere/service.
Fun coffee shop with a very nice patio in back. The cold brew float is a MUST! I tried it with the mazapan ice cream and was transported to a familiar place of my childhood eating De La Rosa treats!

This is my favorite coffee shop to work from. Their drinks are so good! Not to mention their pastries. I normally don’t like getting a pastry from a coffee shop but Cafeina’s pastries are different and really good. I always recommend this coffee shop to anyone I know.
My friend took me for coffee and danish today for my Birthday . The staff is very friendly and welcoming. We sat in the back area outside and I loved the scene. They have a theme which is 1 of my favorites..Día de los Muertos. Great establishment …
Delicious drinks and pandulce plus fun events like comedy shows and music! Worth the stop any day of the week. A super knowledgeable staff including the boss Andrew who could give you a detailed breakdown of any and all drinks served, they're all awesome though.
