I recently ordered Chinese takeout from Chan's in Dundas, and unfortunately, my experience was lackluster. Despite its long history of operation, it seems that the food quality has declined since the original owner, Danny Chan, sold the restaurant. I have fond memories of dining in the restaurant as a teenager with my family in the 1980s, when the food was great and the dining room was open for table service. However, due to the pandemic, the restaurant only offers food for takeout now. While some aspects of the meal were decent, such as the egg rolls, which were stuffed with bean sprouts and tasted good, they seemed much smaller than I remembered. The dry garlic spareribs, on the other hand, were gristly, chewy, and some were quite dry, making them difficult to enjoy. The almond soo guy, which is a type of breaded and deep-fried chicken dish, was also disappointing, as it came with no almonds and a lot of breading. To top it off, the beef chow mien that I ordered was missing from the takeout bag, which was frustrating. Overall, my experience at Chan's was disappointing, especially considering my past positive experiences with the restaurant. The service is fine, but I hope that they can improve their food quality and get the dining room updated and open again in the future. No doubt running a long running restaurant comes with many challenges made more difficult by measuring up to its past glory. I have hope for Chan’s.

Went to this restaurant with 6 family members. Although only 6 other people in the restaurant the waitress didn't take our drink order for 30 minutes. She was unable to make any mixed drinks although they have a full bar so everyone had to have pop, beer or wine only. We waited forever for our drinks and finally had to go to the bar and get them ourselves as they were just sitting there. We ordered our food which came quickly but it tasted like a microwave dinner. I ordered a second glass of wine to wash down my dinner and it never came. Finally went to the bar to pay our bill. Will never return. Terrible experience.
We placed a delivery order worth $60.00. Worst food we have ever had!!!! Had what was supposed to be dry garlic spare ribs - that was a joke. Tasted freezer burnt, chewy and no black beans garlic taste uhhh! Egg rolls tasted sour. Pork fried rice was rice and soy sauce with onion, pork and bean sprouts barely there. Chans special chow me in was noodles rubbery chicken with a few bean sprouts and onions waved over the top. Awful. Jardoo chicken wings were still pink inside. I will be surprised if we don't get food poisoning. Threw 90% in garbage and will never order from Chans Dundas ever again.
I ordered my food at 7:30 pm. By 8:30 I had received no confirmation call or delivery. I had to call them and they had received the order but had not sent it out or even started making the food. I was polite and they said they would have it to me in 40 minutes. After the forty minutes I called again and the food had still not been sent out. I have never seen such terrible delivery practices and if you would actually enjoy receiving the food you order, please choose another Chinese restaurant. I had my money taken for an order that did not show up in 2 hours.
We've ordered a few times from here now, and their food is excellent. While, others reviewing this place seem to be extremely critical, we haven't found any issues with either the taste, quality, or the price of the food whenever we've ordered. It's good North American style Chinese food, at a fair price, and since they're local, we plan on supporting them through these hard times, instead of the more corporate places.
First time ordering Chans tonight and it was amazing ! We ordered the 10 person meal and there was a crazy amount of food for the price with lots left over ! Everyone was raving over the food !!!! We will 100 percent order again. I am not sure why the stars are so low !!!! I promise you won’t regret ordering from here ! New fav customer !!

Is this how a chopsuey is supposed to taste and be like? Ordered in from Chan's Chinese Restaurant and noticed that the seafood chopsuey is 95% bean sprouts and onions. So I separated the seafood bits and the sprouts, this is what it looks like. The broth wasn't anything special either, I wish there was more going on with the dish. I'm no chopsuey connoisseur, but it didn't feel right. Not recommended.
Possibly the worst Asian dining experience I've had. The food was bad, but the only thing worse was the service. The place was empty when we went for dinner and the waitress didn't come by once to see if we needed anything. We had to pay as we left because she wouldn't even come by to bring the bill. This is a place you will probably want to avoid, because even if its free it wouldn't be worth it!
No "value" here anymore. Dry garlic ribs and lemon chicken were brutal (this is second time). I don't know if they have changed suppliers for certain items but you couldn't even bite through the lemon chicken and that dish used to be one of my favourites. Too bad. Now on the lookout for a new and hopefully somewhat local Chinese food....
Had take out tonight. Ordered the dinner for 2 was good. Added the hot and sour soup with wonton, way too salty to eat. Also order the beef and Broccoli, was really over cooked, almost tasted burnt, and again, way to salty to eat. Was an additional $16 of food we just had to throw out. Will keep looking for a new place to order from.
I went in there with my wife, who was grabbing some Chinese - while I'd opted for a Pita from next door. I used the washroom while waiting, and was more than disgusted to see someone come out of a stall and leave the washroom without washing his hands. Worse yet, when I saw that it was a cook - who then walked into the kitchen.
Food is ok. Spring rolls were horrid. Filled with white something. Shrimp and mix Veggies was nice. Beef and broccoli was nice. Rice fine. Chicken balls were chewy and tasted reheated. Cantonese noodles were fine. In summary the food is ok but I will try somewhere else next time. The restaurant itself is old and grungy.
Ordered on December 18th 2021. Was the worst Chinese I have ever had from them. Tasteless. Just horrible. Lightly breaded chicken was so thick with breading and not cooked. Was gummy. Special chow mien noodles were just one big clump. Don't know if they have got a new cook but I won't purchase again. Very disappointing
This use to be my fave..now its not very good at all..dry ribs were like leather and salty..rice and chicken had weird taste to it like msg?.everything was so salty with a terrible taste..went waay down hill.sad.their breaded chicken was horrible all pasty inside tiny peice of chicken.all goopy..was worse food to date.
interior is dated, but since you can't eat in right now it really doesn't matter. The staff are all fantastic. They accommodate my dietary restrictions (Celiac) and clearly mark everything that they were able to make Gluten free. One of the few places that do this. I'm very happy with everything we've eaten.
I'm surprised there are some poor reviews. Every dish we ordered was tasty and fresh. Service was prompt and friendly. It exceeded our expectations. Others should try it. Yumm

depends on who your chef. It can taste really good!, but if you get a bad chef, it takes like a watery-bad soup. The staff is friendly. The facility is clean with nice oriental touches. They even have options friendly for food allergies. I recommend going, but be firm about what you want.
Absolutely worst Chinese food ever. Great customer service but we ordered for delivery and the beef was super chewy and flavourless, noodles were so salty and chewy. Broccoli tasted off and undercooked. The chicken was over cooked and too hard to bite into. Very disappointed.
Ordered multiple items off of the menu that were only half correct, so now I am disgruntled. Like pork fried rice that didn't come with rice and chicken with Chinese mixed veg that came without the chicken. It's good food but not getting food you ordered makes one sad.
It's just not what it used to be. The guy who takes the calls ,is quite rude. Eggs rolls are tiny now prices are higher portions got smaller . Just a great big. MEH!!!! ......SOUTH PACIFIC is our new "go to " and so far so good. . Again the egg rolls. C'mon …
The last 3 times in the past year we’d ordered food from here it was delicious! We had company for dinner the one time and they commented as well about how good it tasted. Every dish was fresh and well presented. Our new Chinese food joint from now on.

They don't answer their phone. They're open, and taking orders from others yet we have called multiple times and can't get one placed due to the lack of customer service it seems. Lovely. Well there goes more customers for ya, bye.
The food used to be really really good but then ownership changed and food took a dive. The restaurant is always dull and smelly. It needs a complete makeover. Kitchen needs to be redone and the dining room. It’s small and cramped.
Just ordered from the restaurant, haven't for a long time but I have to say it was delicious. Everything was fresh and hot, and was easy to get, only had to wait about 20 minutes and it was ready. Will order from them from now on.
Really nice people, worst take out food we've ever had. The chicken balls were doughy, the sesame chicken had no chicken in it, pretty much just hard batter. Even the fried rice was terrible. 10/10 would not recommend.
The food was amazing and the delivery driver was very kind. They were so quick as well, even after warning us it would be an hour

I was told they only have 1 fryer so Don't go here unless you want your egg roll, chicken balls, or deep fried won ton to taste like fish.. really really like fish.. prices too high for inferior food.
General and sesame chicken is really hard like overcooked and is small. Worst of all the food has a peanut taste to it so the actual flavour is drowned out over the powerful taste of peanuts.
Always yummy!! Great honey garlic sauce! Bonus they deliver to me!!

One of the best Chinese places around. Not always perfect but never not satisfied. The sesame chicken, beef and broccoli and chans special chow mein are some of the best around
I honestly don't know how this place is still open. The amount of health code violations they've had over the years makes it pretty clear they don't care about their customers.
great for fried foods like chicken balls, fried shrimp, fried rice but the soup I had did not taste like wonton soup. it tasted of soy and scallion -very bland, ribs were dry.
My go-to place for Chinese food. Been going here since the the late 80s.

Ordered from here because kim shan closed in Ancaster. It was the worst chinese food I have ever eaten. Mall food is far better. We ended up throwing it out. Beware!
Found a small rock (about the size of a pea) at the bottom of my hot and sour soup. He offered to give me a credit next time. Pretty sure there won’t be a next time.
Fantastic chinese food place in a little strip mall, the food was very very good. Would recommend if your in Dundas looking for chinese to give this place a try.
Some of the worst Chinese food I’ve had, rice tasted burnt, smallest chicken balls I’ve ever seen and they were cool & dry/hard, I won’t be ordering again
Food was very poor and lacking of nice flavours. Even the rice tasted off! It hasn’t been the same since Dan sold it. Will never order from there again.
Picked up some take out tonight from Chan's. One of the better Chinese restaurants within a reasonable drive from us. Service was good, food was tasty.
The food not even close to Chinese food If you really want to eat good chinse food, I wouldn't recommend this place...the food suck!

Our family has been ordering Chan’s takeout for more years than I’d like to count! Such lovely staff and the food is soooo good!
The chicken parts had bones in it and the ribs were weird and not riblike..the food was confusing in general..but great service!
Nice little Store... good food service !!! Staff development and mobile application design to the Possibility love it ...ect..
Long wait, unorganized staff, because of the long wait our 65$ take out order was on the house. Danny Chan no longer owns it.
Slow service, bad food when it finally comes out. Items wrong

I pre ordered with Uber and Chan's canceled my order last minute and said sorry, best we can do is 8:45. Terrible!
Always pleasant. Especially the pedophile who used to work there. Stand-up guy, courteous. It's a shame, is all.
always fresh,i specially love their lemon chicken, no other place would make the lemon chicken in this way.
that guy who’s always there is so cheerful and nice. i’ve always got good food never been sick or anything
Only had it once and it wasn't up to my standard. I haven't tried it since so maybe it was an off day???
The service on site might not be the fastest but I like the place for take-out. And the food is good.
Best Won ton soup I have had, loved the chicken balls, chicken Fried rice with sweet and sour sauce.
Love the food very good price and very friendly which I fine a few places in Dundas Ontario/Hamilton
The Yang Chow Style rice is exceptional. Always promt, always fresh. Based on delivery dining only.
Good Chinese food, I love their gerneral tao chicken and lemon chicken, definitely will order again
Literally the worst chinese food i have ever had. 3 bites and now i wont eat chinese for months.
Real nice place to enjoy the Chinese food, delivery is so fast, always early than what l told .
Cheap food, good portions, but I would have liked more vegetables with my food. Fast service.
Not bad. I like the lightly breaded chicken balls. Take out was quick and staff was friendly
Mr.Chan makes the most bussin meals. I have not personally had it. But none the less
Food is good but the dining room is old and run down. Not very pleasant to dine in.
best around, been going here for years. try the Won Ton Soup with Barbecued Pork.
Good cheap chinese fare. Best chinese takeout in Dundas. Quick order turnaround.
Ordinary food at best. Dundas needs some more competition wrt Chinese cuisine.
Delicious food, General Tao was great and portion was huge. Would order again
Not sure why theres 3.5 stars Probably the best Chinese food we’ve ordered
Food was pretty good. Fortunes from the cookies were bang on. 5 stars.
Always happy with the service and food. #6 with extra egg roll. :)
