Was about to park on the side of intersecting First Rd E, when I saw a city parking official writing up a ticket for someone who was already parked there. There is plenty of room on the side of the road. Given that the Devil’s PunchBowl parking lot is closed and people are trying to get some exercise after being housebound for the last three months due to pandemic, think it’s pretty nasty to go around handing out tickets when there’s nowhere else to park. Otherwise great biking/hiking trail for me and my young family. Boardwalk is cool and there’s a mix of open space and shaded area. Worth the ride but city has to resolve the parking issue.

We parked at Devil's Punchbowl. There is a fee for parking unless you have a Hamilton Conservation season pass. The trail start is well marked, just across the street from the parking lot. It was an easy flat ride on compacted dirt and crushed stone, with an elevated wooden boardwalk through Vinemount swamp land. There was a short connecting stretch of asphalt roadway midway but it is very rural with no traffic to be concerned about. Quiet and peaceful. The best part was riding the boardwalk through the Vinemount swamp. The trail took us about two hours to the end and back at a leisurely pace.

Long, straight trail so if you enjoy a "loop" this isnt the trail for you. It is mainly pea gravel and boardwalk. The boardwalk section is my favorite and it feels very secluded. When I walked my dogs there in winter I didn't encounter anyone else (though there is most certainly wildlife!). Good birding opportunities here with Rough-legged Hawks, Owls and lots of sparrow species. Keep your eyes peeled for coyotes at dusk. Had a pack start yipping when we walked there a few weeks ago. I always carry a horsewhip just in case.

Loved the trail. Pretty straight forward but different in the sense that it had an on road portion and the portion through the vinemount marsh on the boardwalk was great. Ended rather abruptly as there were no signs indicating the end. Iam aware that they r planning to extend it and also was not 11.5kms as indicated in the brochures. Till the 11th road it showed about 10.5kms on my watch. However it was a good experience. Waiting for them to extend it.

Honestly the only thing that i didn't like was the mud you had to manuever around. Other than that really enjoyed running here. So peaceful and not alot of foot traffic so it was perfect not having to be mindful of all the people walking the trails. Can't wait to see when all the trees get their leaves back.

Really enjoyed biking this trail. Being pregnant I don't want to risk mountain biking due to falls, so this was a nice change to bike from end to end. There is a portion which takes you along a road, but it's really not much at all. I was impressed with the signage, the whole trail was very well marked.

This rating is complicated.. great trail.. very beautiful..BUT dog parents beaware.. we came back from a walk yesterday and found over 9 ticks on our dogs. If you do go on the trail just make sure you check the dogs and yourself before getting back into the car.

Won't go here unfortunately because of the parking fee enforcement - same goes with Devils Punchbowl. Pretty disgusting they're handing tickets by the minute and enforcing paid parking for nature spots. Real shame as I'd love to check these spots out.

Not much to see. Ticks are brutal!!! Three ticks on me and one on my daughter and never left the path for more then 30 seconds. To be fair we only walked a small stretch opposite the punch bowl but mostly just open fields of abandoned grape vines...

Dog owners beware, this trail is tick central. We found 3 on my fiance and over 10 between our two dogs. We are still finding them hours since being home. Hopefully it improves but we won't be returning. Pretty trail but not worth it for us.

Really like this trail. Sometimes I start at the Devils Punchbowl parking lot, sometimes I start from 10th road, parking by the train tracks. Usually fairly quiet.

I do not recommend bringing dogs here during tick season as it is an area loved by deer. However very nice long walk. Boardwalk not good for smaller dogs.

Boardwalk section is a nice option for young children...the day we were there a flock of starlings flew about 10 feet over our heads

Great rail for a hike or bicycle ride. Long boardwalks along the way which is great for keeping out of the mud.

  • Jesse Cottle

Trail is alright. Ticks are everywhere, walked up to the bend, stayed on the trail and had multiple on me.

Nice place for a low key stroll or bike ride. Usually (and blessedly) quiet on weekdays.

Wonderful trail. So close to the city but you feel like you’re in the heart of nature.
