"With two locations, this is my go-to halal grocery store"
"I've been coming here for years and for the most part it's been good"
"What a great grocery store"
"Great local supermarket to buy all our Arabic foods and spices"
"I kept hearing great things about the meat shop at Elsafadi's so I decided to stop by and check it out"
With two locations, this is my go-to halal grocery store. I have never left here disappointed!! I would consider it a hidden gem. It is localIy family owned (the owners are super sweet) which I prefer to support. When I lived in the city, I would drive from the south west all the way to the north to shop here. I miss this place dearly as I have moved provinces, but always stop by when in town - I actually know people in Saskatchewan who come here to buy a certain delicious feta cheese that apparently can't be found elsewhere! They carry a wide selection of imported foods and produce from all over the Middle East and Mediterranean; in addition, they still carry some typical/popular North American brands too so you can get all your groceries done in one place. Great deli/butcher selection as well as bakery. Customer service is amazing, the girls that work the till are extremely helpful and know the inventory well which is super hard to come by. Parking is okay.. sometimes busy, but to be expected with a great business.
I've been coming here for years and for the most part it's been good. Lately, I've had some sickening experiences. Let's put aside the fact that the cashiers for the most part don't smile and have bad attitudes. But a few weeks back I bought a container of sour cream. When I came home I realized it was two days beyond its expiry date. Should it really be my responsibility to check that? I should be able to trust that they're putting quality products on the shelf. Today was the tipping point. I bought a pack of chicken for $15 as I usually do. I came home and as soon as I opened it, the most absolute sour smell came out. I smelled each chicken breast and it was sour beyond belief. I'm sickened and will never in my life shop here again. Maybe commit to quality and customer service more because this is unacceptable.
What a great grocery store. This place us amazing from the moment you walk in. You smell the aroma of middle eastern spices. A great selection of authentic arab and oriental foods. From the sweets shop which serves fresh baklava, to the deli. Oh and the meat shop, fresh and the best meat in edmonton. Walk up and down the aisles and feast your eyes in a selections of foods, only limits is what your imagination can cook. We saved the best for last. The staff here are amazing. From the owner himself greeting you and helping you throughout the store, to the rest of the staff. You truly feel that this is how small town shopping is. Lots of parking and very easy to get, these guys don't disappoint.
Great local supermarket to buy all our Arabic foods and spices. Anwar, the supermarket owner is a great person with a lot of care to customer satisfaction. Faisal the butcher is amazing and trustworthy. The meat is always fresh and great quality. They also bake great donuts every Saturday which in my humble opinion are at least a 100 times better than Krispy Kreme. My only recommendation is to train the cashiers to be courteous when they are greeted. One of them last time didn’t even acknowledge me when she gave me the debit machine and threw the receipt on the table. It’s common courtesy to look or acknowledge the customer that is being dealt with.
I kept hearing great things about the meat shop at Elsafadi's so I decided to stop by and check it out. They were blasting country music which made me think I was in Cabella's so I felt right at home! The butcher Mr. Jomha was so kind to me, he and his son gave me some great recommendations. He even stayed late to make me his special Kafta Fingers which were amazing. Spiced just right and very satisfying...I ate them two nights in a row! The top sirloin steak was delicious as well; no fat and nicely sliced. I will definitly be back for more. I hear the chicken is fantastic so I'll have to try that next! Thanks for a great customer experience!
I give a 5 star review even though the store is not 100% perfect. Prices of produce sometimes slightly higher than other stores and less quality, but most of the times very good prices and a lot more produce selection than most of other stores. Deli, meat and bakery sections are always 5 star, never had any issues with these departments since the store opened. Very friendly and responsible staff and management, had an issue with my credit card one day was double charged for a single transaction, talked to a manager a few days later and money was refunded on the spot no issues.
Great prices and quality of foods. The family is known for philanthropic efforts all over Edmonton. We lost a great noble man this week, the grandfather: Mohamed Elsafadi (Abo Ali), who founded the Supermarket way back in the day. So today when I went by, it was closed due to funeral proceedings. A great family and very well liked by the neighbourhood. I can't say enough about the founder and what gift he left for us. He brought us together through this Supermarket. May God Bless him and join him with the Righteous. Ameen ❤️
I always find what I’m looking for here. The owners are very appreciative of their customers, and will go above and beyond to ensure you get what you want. The staff are also good, I would just like to mention. that the young cashier ladies in the front need to be more professional. They are not rude by any means, but not always 100% punctual. Nevertheless, doesn’t take away any stars, as I know Anwar and Walid always do their best to educate their staff. Will go again and again
My favourite go to place for ethnic grocery’s and desserts, I just wish they would clarify and label clearly their food and expiry dates. Most customers are Muslim and most of the items they sell there (prepackaged items either contain pork, meat and other gelatine ingredients) that’s not being transparent with your devoted customers whom some are elders and don’t have time to read the ingredients since they put the trust in your place. Please mark and label your items clearly.
Normally, I get great customer service and I love the people there, not to mention the fantastic donuts that they make on Saturdays!! But today, i went in and asked for a wrap.... Like a sandwich wrap... First I got handed turkey and ham, wrapped to buy... then the guy made two wraps after confirming with me that I just wanted one.... Not very pleased... Slow, and kept helping other customers around me... I will continue to go back, because I love the staff... (and the donuts)
Very good customer service. I wanted red kidney beans, I called them before I drive to the store and asked if they have the red beans, Lady on the phone told me to wait on line to see if they have about 3 minutes she answered back and told me that they have, So I drove to the store and bought the red beans also they were new good red beans. I’m so happy with their customer service Thanks
It’s a good store. But it has multiple issues: - a lot of products are seems to be not in a good condition ( either not saved in appropriate temperature or …) like fruits & vegetables - for lamb meat, they usually told me it’s from young age lamb, as I’ve good experience with lamb’s age ( by noticing the bones sizes ), their information isn’t correct ( meat seems from more older lambs)
Very unfriendly staff, when entering the Store there is no Greetings whatsoever by the Individuals who work at the Store especially the Cashiers. If they are so unhappy being there these individuals should look elsewhere to be.Cause, seems they are in the Wrong line of work to make a living being in Customer service industry. This has been my recent Experience and my Personal opinion.
Very rich varieties of middle east foods even Turkish coffee that is my favorite. Staff are very nice and helpful. One annoying issue , there are sometimes items without price? Or expired. Please, do daily check up, that would be great.Prices are reasonabl and meat shop products are always fresh. Varieties of bread. Oriental sweets. Cheap gas. Nice and polite staffs.
So disappointed, love this place and the products here, just hardly any staff wearing masks. Two had no masks at all and two had their masks pulled fully down while they were stocking produce and deli. Unfortunately if they don't follow these health guidelines what other guidelines do they not follow around cleanliness and food handling.
Great baked goods and the butchers are wonderful. They import some of the same things as the Italian Centre so that is nice if we’re not feeling the trip downtown. Unfortunately if you are not middle eastern you will not get a hello or even a smile in the store, it feels very unwelcoming to be in there most times.
Staff is always very friendly and ready to help! Its my one stop shop for everything, from the Amazing Omar and his family at the Meat shop to the Paradiso ladies who always are attentative and of course to all the staff in general!!! Keep up the great Work during these Pandemic Times. JAK …
Was in the store tonight and 3 staff were not wearing their masks properly as well as a couple patrons. It's a small store, so that many people in non-compliance was a little irritating. I mean, I have to wear a mask all day too, and it sucks... but come on, we are all in this together.
Went expecting to find some Middle Eastern shaving products. Instead, what they have are just domestic items at premium prices. They did have some lemon cologne which I was interested in, but it had been on the shelf for 3+ years and was past its expiry date. Waste of time.
Produce is hit or miss, deli section is very good, bakery is very good, some everyday items are a bit pricey, I have never went into any grocery store that follows covid restrictions less. Their are lots of people and some employees not wearing masks properly if at all.
Apart from a variety of Mediterranean grocery market, its specialty is Nice marinated items readymade just to throw on your grill and enjoy the mouthwatering barbecue...awesome...! Their fuel price at their fuel station is also better than other brand fuel stations.
All around grocery for any.. Canadian!! Impressive how well food safety and over all cleanliness is followed. I prefer to use as my north side quick shop grocery store. Honestly would be nice to see this Canada wide. Asian foods are the key to diversity.
I had multiple sessions somewhere else I do regret going there ! I went for A deal PRP treatment ! Very awful and painful the injector is unprofessional and she kept talking about other clinics ! Couldn’t answer any my questions I would never go back
Great market to do the grocery, They have all the grocery options for all groups of customers from Caucasians to Middle East, Their Deli is Halal and worth to try, fresh bakery items are hot picks a must try spot for your daily or monthly grocery
I've been buying groceries from Elsafadi's for the past 30 years and they are still the amazing, warm, honest and generous people that they have prided themselves on for decades. One of the best family owned supermarkets this city has ever seen.
Favorite store to buy Halal meats and dates. Would love to see another store open up in the south end of Edmonton. Their bakery selection is also worth trying and they bake fresh bread daily. Prices are fair and they do special sales often.
I love coming here for the bakery but alot of times the ladies at the till are rude. I am not Arabic and I certainly hope that's not the issue, but I've noticed them being very friendly to other customers but rude and dismissive with me.
Great produce, great meat selection, great deli, great bakery and all other things Mediterranean. The store is well lit and clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. I love the chicken shawarma at Sunbake Pita and you can buy all the
The staff here are very good. See the butchers for the best meats and dishes to make at home. A impressive selection of spices and dry foods. The produce is of high quality. We really enjoy the bakery as well which is freshly made.
I love it here, they always have what I need when all the regular stores disappoint me. If you need any oriental items 9.5/10 they will be the ones to go to. Staff are so accommodating and helpful always. Thank you so so much.
I have been going to this store for years. It has everything you need for preparing Middle Eastern foods. The meat selection is limited, but quality is the best! The meat department staff are also very friendly and helpful.
Great service. Amazing sandwiches for only $5!! I love going there for lunch and getting my produce there. Would definitely recommend; it’s a great niche store, to get middle eastern goods that you cannot find anywhere.
Add finally I didn't sometimes I wonder why I see the samthe same person selling the exact same fruits and vegetables at a discount at the flea market so you know what potential to wear your shop it's all the same price
Mr Jomha in the butcher department is the best. Meat is top quality and we have no issues trusting the meat for raw beef dishes (kifta and kibbe nay). He remembers all my kids by name and always asks how they're doing.
The is the best place to buy your Arabic favorite foods. You will notice the diversity of the foods and its orgins. Do not forget to check out deli, sweet, and meat sections. Staff are friendly and many cashiers.
The best ground beef in the city! The staff are always very friendly and helpful. Excellent prices on fresh produce and some very cool gift ideas. The bakery is better than the expensive Mercato in St Alberta.
Just moved to this neighborhood and checked them out. Good variety and decent pricing. Once a line up started at checkout, they promptly opened 2 more lanes. Great job Elsafadi, that's customer service!!!
This is not your average grocer. This is where you'll find baklava, dates, talumi, humus and feta year round. Rose water for reasonable prices. Local produce and halal every thing-including marshmellows .
Probably my favourite supermarket in Edmonton. They have everything a middle easterner might want and the prices are fair. TRY THE BUTCHER THE MEAT IS PERFECT and the chicken is CLEAN! Love this place.
Best hummus and pita bread in town by far! I will drive out of my way any day for their food. Great selection on imported products. Customer service is wonderful everyone is always kind and helpful
This's a nice place to shop. Their food product quality is good and customer service is also good. The gas prices at this place are amazing. No one can beat their price as far as I came across.
Good store, good people, good stuff they’re selling, all fresh and well presented, prices are acceptable and I’m happy to have this store close by my house. Thank you Elsafadi Supermarket.
Great selection of middle Eastern European imports and halal foods, fruits and veg. O.J. butcher shop for all your halal meat needs at back of store. Great sweets and pastry shop as well.
There a lot of food I don't know there. But Im willing to try different stuff. They do have lamb testicle that is something that i would never try. (Yuk ) busy place impressive …
Great little grocery store with so many different foods and supplies. Slightly more expensive in same places, sometimes cheaper in others. I love the deli, bakery and butcher most.
I enjoy to shop here once in a while, I can check and try new stuffs, learn about different cultures .. feels like I travel to different country during shopping here lol love it
Good place and the staff are helpful. The only issue I have their is with produce, seems old and not fresh. Other than that, prices are reasonable and they have a lot to offer.
It's the definitive Lebanese and Arabic grocery store. Rose water, rose tea, rose jelly, rose Turkish delight...and everything else, including some excellent baklava.
Nice, clean little neighborhood super market. Friendly staff, and well stocked and wide selection of shelf goods. Smaller selection of fresh foods but still alot.
it's as good as it gets for middle eastern groceries in Edmonton. They have the best prices in town for imported products, and their bakery is pretty decent.
Clean, nice store, great selection, good reasonable prices. The staff here are so friendly and helpful. Wish I lived closer so I could come visit more often.
Love this place really nice, can’t rate less than 5 stars. Just wish they don’t have delivery through the main entrance. Makes maneuvering and parking tough.
Great staff and service, I'm from out of town they always get my order ready over the phone and are really helpful!! Rayan was the biggest help, Thank you!
Love going to this store, super friendly customer oriented, love their meat department, you always can ask for what you need and they will cut it fresh!
Good people, good prices, the best bakery in Edmonton for basic bread. They make better Italian buns than the Italian Bakery or Mercatto in St. Alberta
Excellent produce and meats for reasonable price. Great for bread and all middle Eastern / arabian cusine. Wide selection of spices, Zaatar and dates.
The place where you can find anything you looking for from fruit to meat and in between. It's always fresh with very cheap prices. Love this place !
It's a gas station ⛽ it's a Supermarket it's a bakery it's a East Mediterranean gift emporium it's really a secret and the best baklava in Edmonton
Very rude customer service the gentleman basically wanted to kick us out while we where waiting for the lady to finish our order for thr pastries
Always love elsafadis and the bakery attached. Just wish their prices and things were more affordable. Otherwise an awesome halal place to shop!
Great Middle Eastern groceries and western. Has a deli, sweet bakery and halal foods including fresh meat. Owners are a super nice family.
Great selections of Mediterranean product, and also they have good produce, sometimes when it's on sale they have good price for produce.
Honestly staff is really rude if you aren't part of the arab community. I've been there a few times and it's been the same every time.
Check expiration date on products I suggest to the owner to fly to Montreal and visit Adonis supermarket to see how it’s done properly
Great little place on Castle Downs Road. One of the owner's sons, Ali, helped us out and was very friendly! Will be going back again.
This store is amazing! Not only do they have some of the best prices in town, they also have exceptional customer service!
Doesn't have a lot of diversity in the meditarean food but you can still find a good coffee and baklava and a Feta cheese!
Been coming here since I was a kid, good quality and fair prices. One of the better Middle Eastern groceries in Edmonton.
friendly staff . limited carts available . has water exchange program has in-store baklava bakery as separate company
Great atmosphere! Excellent service! Very friendly staff. We will definitely add this store to our places to shop.
