"Very clean and well maintained, washrooms from dawn to dusk, changing pads in each single toilet in one by playground, multistall the one by the bandshell, only cold water in the tap and they do close them by November 1st for the cold season"
"I am blown away at the gorgeous changes that have been made to the park since I moved away! It is immaculately clean, the walking paths are well-maintained and unobstructed, I love the wild plants and flowers that have taken up the formerly marshy area that runs beside the Children's Museum"
"Our family loves Gage Park"
As an avid nature lover, I'm always on the lookout for tranquil green spaces, and this park truly exceeded my expectations. From the moment I stepped foot into the park, I was greeted by a feeling of tranquility that instantly put my mind at ease. One of the highlights of this park is its well-designed walking trails. Meandering through the park, these pathways lead you on a delightful journey, allowing you to immerse yourself in nature's beauty. As I strolled along the trails, I encountered various points of interest, including charming benches where I could pause, relax, and soak in the peaceful ambiance. The cleanliness and tidiness of the park were commendable, and the well-placed garbage bins made it easy to keep the park litter-free. Kudos to the staff and maintenance crew for their hard work in preserving this natural oasis. For families, this park is a haven for children of all ages. The well-equipped playgrounds, complete with swings, slides, and climbing structures, were an absolute hit with the younger visitors. The park also offers spacious picnic areas, perfect for families and friends to gather and enjoy quality time together amidst nature's embrace. Additionally, the park provides ample seating areas, both in shaded spots and under open skies, allowing visitors to find their preferred nook for relaxation or to enjoy a picnic. The availability of well-maintained restroom facilities was also a welcome convenience. One of the aspects that impressed me the most was the park's commitment to accessibility. Thoughtful infrastructure, including ramps and paved pathways, ensured that people of all abilities could enjoy the park without any hindrances. This inclusive approach truly sets an example for other public spaces. In conclusion, I cannot speak highly enough of this park. It offers a refreshing escape from the urban hustle and bustle, allowing visitors to reconnect with nature and find solace in its tranquil surroundings. Whether you're seeking a peaceful stroll, a family outing, or a quiet spot to unwind with a book, this park has it all. I highly recommend paying a visit to this hidden gem – a true testament to the beauty of nature right in the heart of the city. **Disclaimer: This review is based on my personal experience and reflects my honest opinion of the park.
What is there to say about Gage Park.....this is a wonderful family afternoon outing. younger children (maybe some of the older ones too) will enjoy the Splash Pad off of Gage Ave. N (north end of the park), there is a large playground right next to the water. Large 100+ year old trees provide shade all over the park, walking paths take you from one end of the park to the other. The park grounds boost a beautiful greenhouse and gardens to stroll around admiring all the beauty nature has to offer. At the south end of the park the is a small park and a wonderful Children's Museum that we have not yet had a chance to visit, soon hopefully. In the center of the park there is a wonderful donation to the city of hamilton to honour a loved one, this fountain still runs and is a beautiful reminder of an important person in this citys history(it also offers a great oppertunity to add a bit of learning into your afternoon out). Bring your bike because you wouldn't want to miss out on the dirt trick area, do tricks, bounce off the hill and feel the air rush past your face. There is also an old fasioned band shell that the city offers live entertainment and music during the warm weather. I between all of these amazing free family activities there is beautiful lush greenerie from the soft grass to the tall trees this is by far one of Hamiltons Largest and most beartiful green spaces. however i do not recomend visiting with children after dark.
Very clean and well maintained, washrooms from dawn to dusk, changing pads in each single toilet in one by playground, multistall the one by the bandshell, only cold water in the tap and they do close them by November 1st for the cold season. Free barrierless parking lot within parks grounds, wifi in the ceter of the park by the greenhouse. Asphalted walkways good for rollerbladers and walkers. LOOOOOTS of shade, but also sunny areas. North eastern corner playground small and simple the north western one has "special needs" play equipment like a swing specialy designed for wheelchairs. SoBikes are along the western border of the park. Park staff change garbages 7 days a week, but they also mow and so there is a low grade noise to be expected, it is not a forest environment although the big old trees do provide a much better air within the park. Some picknic tables and by community garden/raised garden beds is a chopped tree that is just so thick as not add trigger to knee and lower back pain sitting down if this is a difficulty with using benches - these ample throughout the park both in shade and sun.
I am blown away at the gorgeous changes that have been made to the park since I moved away! It is immaculately clean, the walking paths are well-maintained and unobstructed, I love the wild plants and flowers that have taken up the formerly marshy area that runs beside the Children's Museum. I was especially impressed with how clean and restored the grounds were not 12 hours after the Festival of Friends ended this past weekend; the maintenance staff have done a phenomenal job. Seems, too, that the participants did a decent job of minimizing their impact and using waste bins instead of tossing refuse on the ground - the grass was surely well tread but there werent signs of ground in food and waste all about. Kudos, Gage Park on a fantasticly cared for gem in the city.
Dog-friendliness
We encountered numerous people walking dogs durong our visit, and the park was very clean and no waste issues were seen. Seems like the perfect place to take a stroll with the four-legged family members.
Our family loves Gage Park. Whether we are out for a walk, taking the kids to the playground/waterpark, practicing riding bikes, visiting the greenhouse, attending a festival - five stars all around. There is plenty of parking (unless its a festival or event haha). The grounds are meticulously maintained and they are constanting manicuring and planting. And, despite the people constantly tossing garbage on the grounds, the staff keep it well maintained. The fountain is a sight to behold especially when they've recently treated the water. The rose garden is so beautiful when in full bloom. Lots of trees to climb. And of course, the bike track is a lot of fun for the kids (and adults). I also hear they're adding a skating rink this year, so that's just another perk! During the pandemic, the park is a little too crowded for our taste so we always wear our masks and don't play on the (usually crowded) playground. Otherwise, the park is still a pleasure to visit.
Accidentally found this place, and it's so beautiful! The tropical greenhouse is a breath of fresh air and even has a corner with a take that you can work while enjoying the beauty. They even gave you the option of taking a tree home to plant for free. There are so many fun things to do with your family. The splash pad and playground are perfect for toddlers. It is next to the main road, so just be extra vigilant. Sufficient parking and more provided during their events. The rose garden is stunning! There is so much more to say, but i think you should see it for yourself.
Playground
Clean, tons of options for kids. Perfect splash pad for a hot day.
Restrooms
Clean and accessible
Dog-friendliness
Great for dog (please don't let them play in the water with the kids)
Picnic area
There are tons of tables to choose from or nice big trees to give you shelter
Decided to finally check out Gage Park... It's much, much larger than you might think! Has several large flower gardens, a dedicated rose garden, a lawn bowling club, a tennis club, a massive fountain (but doesn't work) with turtle sculptures, a bandshell, tons of old growth trees, nice view of the escarpment, wide open fields of nothing but grass, a green house, a little creek, a playground and splash pad, picnic area (BYOB = bring your own BBQ), Children's Museum, tons of benches, lots of garbage cans... and visible maintenance who are very friendly. It's super clean and well looked after. You'd have no idea all this was back here. Plenty of parking (enter at the lawn bowling club on the far side of the park) as well. Family and dog-on-leash friendly. Very peaceful -- city noises easily fade into the background.
Love this park! So much shade!! The gardens are beautiful and well maintained. There is a pretty fountain. The greenhouse is beautiful. The splash pad and playground are great for the kids. Lots of space to walk dogs, or sit and have a picnic and watch the squirrels. The bathrooms are really dirty, but they have running water (no soap!!)... there are a couple of them in the park (1 near the playground, 1 near the parking lot)
Playground
Kids love it!! Lots to do!
Restrooms
Dirty, single stall. But they have running water.
Dog-friendliness
Always lots of dogs here!!!
Picnic area
So many areas to choose from for a great picnic!!!
I visited this week-end " Spring Tide Bulb Show; Spring at the Cottage "; It was great but a little short, with so many flowers and all sets up were great remending the Cottage. All kind and colors of the flowers were beautiful without forgetting how pleasant it was to walk around smelling the délicious fragrance of the flowers, the sets were very dynamic and very well done. I love Gage Park and walking through the greenhouses. Gage Park is truly a hidden gem in Hamilton. Very good idea for free access and give donations to Hamilton Food & Share I know it must have been a huge job to prépare such an exhibition, Congratulations to all those involved.
It's a spacious beautiful park with lots to do! Plenty of beautiful trees with historic information makes for a unique walk with the dog while learning history! There is a small park with a splash pad for kids and a few picnic tables and benches for parents to sit. They are renovating gages parks beautiful and well known green house, host festival of friends among many other festivals during the summer and on most days has three big open fields covering 75 akers of land. Located in the middle is a beautiful and historic fountain with seating areas are outlets. Dirt course for bikes and is surrounded by local stores and restaurants!
We came here for Poutine Fest, specifically. We were quite disappointed when we saw there was only three food trucks selling poutines (and a few more selling pogos, lemonade and ice cream). The setup was amazing, a lot of picnic tables that were set up some with shade and some without. As a vendor, I would have been a bit disappointed by the turnout as there were not that many people, but as a festival goer I was quite happy as it wasn't overcrowded. I would definitely suggest having better advertising as we only found out the morning of, while driving by. If we had taken another route, we wouldn't have seen this.
This is a beautiful park with a loop around trail for walking and running. There's a large park and splash pad on the Westside of the park for family fun! There's a greenhouse on the Southside that is normally open and free to public. The middle area has a gorgeous rose garden that is great to visit in the summer when it's at full bloom. There's a beautiful fountain too! Our favorite are the big grassy areas and big trees that create shade, perfect for picnics and toddlers to practice walking.
Great park, usually busy on a nice day. Holds lots of events throughout the year including the Friends Festival in August. Love going to the greenhouse for the mum and spring bulb show, definitely worth it! Beautiful rose garden and grounds too. Just be aware that this is not the best place to linger late at night or alone at night, there have been some sketchy things that have happened here.
Playground
Splash pad and two playgrounds.
Beautiful park here in Hamilton there's free wifi offered by the city and a beautiful indoor garden planetarium there to visit. There are history lessons to learn there with regards to local tree species and their importance. This Paul provides a great space for outdoor concerts and venues such as the annual Ribfest. The reason for only 4 stars is the tenants allowed to put up their tents and make the park an unsafe place to use.
Nicest park I have ever been so far suitable for all ages. Gage Garden / Greenhouse opened up only for about a year and many interestng plants inside to explore. Rose flower garden at the back of the Greenhouse is well maintained. You will see a fountain in a short distance which is great for photo. Kids also spent hours at the playground and the splash pad. Nice picnic area in front of the Greenhouse with free Wi-Fi.
one of the most beautiful local parks. kept very clean for the most part, so spacious so you can take a longer walk if you wanted. Beautiful in all seasons and has many cool features like a rose garden and green house. i also like all the accessible pathways. Slowly getting taken up by tents in some areas so you might have to be careful alone at night. but during the day it’s so beautiful
Gage park is such a lovely place in the city for all ages. Playgrounds and splash pad for the kids. Lots of room for sports and events. So many people out for walks or just a great place to have lunch in some nature. The free greenhouse is also a great place to see some beautiful flowers and take some stunning photos. Take a walk, run, ride or just sit by the iconic fountain at gage park.
What a beautiful park! Unfortunately, We can’t review the Green House, and I would like to mention a few things. It’s os very green and lively. Very well maintained, everything was blooming and fruiting over there! And if you pay close attention, little birdies are hiding between the bushes - just adorable. Not to mention three sassy turtles hanging out in one rock! Great place to visit.
Absolutely beautiful place to breathe fresh air, see some fruits, and learn a lot from the signs posted. The tiny quails that live there are such a delight. I recommend this place to anyone, it is free!!! Expect to spend 1/2 hr here if you're super quick but I could see an hour being spent here. Benches and even tables with chairs are there if you wanted to read or sit.
Walk my dog Zeus every other day through Gage Park! I'm so lucky to live nearby: Zeus turned 15 years old in May, and he probably wishes I'd take him every day! The playground is great for kids and very dog friendly! Restrooms are kept clean, and they have plenty of room for picnics! Although they don't have many picnic tables so you might want to bring chairs!
I had a Birthday party for my boyfriend who just turned 65. We all had a great time. I brought my BBQ and all the fixings. We had such a great time that we were there for 8 hours :) My cousin is going to have her daughter's Birthday there soon too. My boyfriend was so happy that I may be able to persuade him into doing it again soon with a smaller group!
I've loved this park since I moved to Hamilton just over 20 yrs ago! It is beautiful and so are the upgrades. I miss all the old big trees though. The green house is amazing and a must see! Wish it was open later though...closes at 4:00 pm. We take the kids often for bike rides they love the new park. Also the splash pax is great during the summer!
Our whole family loves this park! There are two playgrounds, a splash pad, rose garden, a bike pump track, tennis courts, tons of trails and lots of green space for a picnic. I’ve also seen a stage area which is where I assume bands perform during a festival (just haven’t attended one, yet!). Overall a fantastic outdoor space with lots to enjoy.
I love to ride my electric scooter around the park, people are usually very respectful of cyclists and scooter users which is all the better and safer :) very fun little trails to ride. The greenhouse is beautiful ps. the squirrels like pistachios, bring some from dollarama and find yourself a bench for a Disney princess moment ✨️ …
Great place to walk/bicycle/exercise/picnic/relax in Hamilton. There is a playground. The scenery is nice. Ample parking. Lots of places to sit. Nice to visit when there are festivals on. Really wish there were places to lock up a bicycle as there are NONE.
Restrooms
There are restrooms located near the south-west entrance to the park
It is a good place. Not much rush and people follow social distancing. Good place for a nice walk, running, exercising or just a casual convo. June 2020 update - It can be a little crowded now at some times like weekends but it is fine as long as we all practice safe distancing measures. Go see and smell the Roses. It is beautiful.
It has a great playground, a splashpad with a wading pool starting around noon in July & August. The greenhouse is awesome, watch for the little quails! Really nice that they've recently fixed up the fountain. Hundreds of big mature trees (full of friendly, hungry squirrels). Just a great park that we go to at least once a week.
DESPITE ALL THE RAIN THE GROUNDS WERE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. Even with all the events ... the ground was ready for another festival. A very key factor was that the grounds had been packed down with a roller and aerator. Top quality management of the grass field in front of the Bandshell was evident and appreciated.
Superb garden with lush green trees, jogging track and serene mountain view. The garden is quite huge and has a greenhouse as well Due to covid the Greenhouse is closed and so are the public washrooms closed inside. Currently there is a very beautiful cherry blossom tree so worth a visit to enjoy your evening
Probably one of the nicest park in Hamilton. If you’re biking, you can do a few loops around the park but it’s going to get boring really quick. However, it’s a great park to go for a walk or chill for a while. They have plenty of benches, a cute rose garden, a fountain etc. Lots of events going on too.
Went here for the train to see it all lit up.. always best to get there early.. for anything & to watch out for ByLaw.. to make sure you are able to park or ask the homeowner(s) if u can park.. even offer them some money for parking.. always a good turn out at Gage Park for whatever events they put on!
It's a lovely place. Huge well maintained. The children's playground is top class.it totally made my day to see an accessible swing there. The greenhouse is kinda small. Maybe some parts were closed due to covid. But well kept and beautiful. Worth spending a day or half. Don't forget the squirrels!
A great place to spend the whole day with family and friends. A nice playground with swing area, splash pad, picnic table and whole wide ground to do tons of activities. They have free parking lot, washroom, a big stage for any concerts. A conservatory is in within the park that closes on 5 pm.
It was well maintained but was bit crowded (Weekend Morning). Iconic fountain is always a delight to look at but you will see some homeless guys hanging out around the fountain as there are electrical sockets they use to charge their phones. (Not complaining, May god help them live better)
Magnificent park, with expansive grounds, towering trees, a tropical greenhouse (which is sadly under extended roof repair for seemingly months ), rose garden, and fountain. It's wonderful. Particularly look for the sycamore trees. There are frequent festivals here during the summer. …
Very nice park, relatively quiet and serene. They also have festivals throughout the summer and splash pad for the kids. Great place to have picnics with family, friends. Live music events as well.Downside is that it's not a safe place to walk through at night time.
Its a very clean park. Its your festivel was on. The food good lots of vendors music great. They had outhouses. Their was a area for recyle and waste.
Playground
They do have a area kids can play on.
Dog-friendliness
I saw people walking their dogs
This park is huge and is usually quiet. One can find a nice spot to relax or bring their family along with kids to enjoy. There's play area for kids. People come here for exercise or bring their dog for a walk. Lot of parking spots also available here.
Fantastic area, great for visitors and local family alike! An amazing opportunity to learn about tropical plants, especially the ones whose fruits we consume on a daily basis! There's even live quaills which was an absolutely wonderful addition lol
This park is one of the best parks in the Hamilton area. It has a wonderful walking trail all around the park. Beautiful rose garden, wonderful greenery, nice kids play area. All-in-all, it has everything that family would like to see in a park.
Gorgeous park with a greenhouse, walking paths, water fountain and so much more. This park hosts many events throughout the year and is always has someone around either walking or having a picnic. Great place to relax and get some fresh air.
It is a very well maintained park. They really invest time and effort to keep it pretty. Good kids space with splash and playground. Not so many picnic tables but I believe that a blanket on the amazing grass will be a good experience.
Nice place, beautiful plants, playground for the kids nice paths for walking, biking, picnic tables for those who like that ect. I guess at times there's live music in the covered half dome. Will go back in the future …
Was there for Ribfest. Well organized, entrance security was friendly, processed the lineup quickly and kept things nice for everyone. A good venue and pretty park with easy access parking. All around just a lovely urban park.
We stumbled on this park when we went out for ice cream. It is beautiful! Park on the street. Plenty of shady benches and picnic tables, a splash pad for little ones, and lovely landscaping. We enjoyed watching the squirrels.
This park has one of the best children's playgrounds I have ever seen. Lots of unique rides. The whole playground area is covered in soft space turf material. We can't wait for the newly rebuilt Greathouse to reopen.
Had a great time at the annual fall garden and mum show. Great park, plenty of parking at the time which was free and well maintained grounds and greenhouse. Staff during the show were very nice and friendly.
I love taking my son to this park “Daddy can we go to the big park…. With the fountains” he loves exploring the park and really enjoys the fountain. Park is always clean and tidy. I’ll be going again soo.
Nice little park that is clean and well maintained. Quite different from the rest of the city. The park is good for younger kids as the play area isn't big. There is a lot of room to run around though.
This was a fantastic place. Staff were super friendly and very helpful. We had an event there and everything was just awesome.
Picnic area
You would not know you were in the middle of the city
Well paved walkways for roller skates. There is also a public greenhouse I believe closes around 8. Public restrooms close about the same time. Public parking, tennis, baseball & bike area's on site
Very nice and well maintained park. We just love this place. One of the best parks for kids to play. You can observe different types of trees over there. Great place for morning or evening walks.
really great and big park in downtown. it’s got a playground, splash pad, greenhouse, gardens, water fountain, and lots of green space. i really enjoyed time there and thought it was beautiful
My favourite park in all of Hamilton. Such a beautiful place. From the fountain, to the gardens, to the greenhouses, stage for performances, I love everything about it!!! …
The mum show was beautiful. I made a pumpkin flower arrangement for $5. It was fun. Its over now. The new tropical greenhouse is really great. Turtle goldfish and huge gorgeous tropicals
Very beautiful mass timber structure, amazing plants inside with cool plaques that give more info than just latin names, and some sneaky little quails if you can find them
One of the best parks in Hamilton East to walk and sit with the family, V spacious over there, but sometimes it's not easy to find parking, especially in summer events.
Great park with lots of space to let your pooch off leash as most people there do. With a Bandshell, a greenhouse and outdoor gardens there is lots to do at Gage park.
Mums in space was a stunning exhibit, offered free pumpkins at the end of the journey and a lovely park to explore afterwards. Yearly exhibits with different themes!
Absolutely fantastic the Fall Mum Show for 2023! Kudos to the City of Hamilton and all those who continue to put on this marvelous display of horticulture . …
Beautiful open space park with picturesque views. Gardens and waterfall features. Nice pathways and areas to sit. Good for the family or just some alone time.
Big, historic park. Home of the beautiful tropical greenhouse that hosts the Mum show, etc, which is a lovely retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Clean, well maintained! A lot of open areas to have a picnic. Very big areas that could host events. Lots of garbage cans around which is great to help out.
Went here for the 2023 festival of friends and liked the park’s layout. It’s a good picnic spot, maybe a good place for short runs and easily accessible.
Lovely park with beautiful trees and flowers .Taking pictures next to roses is a must. However, toilets are disgusting and super smelly and dirty.
Went for the annual mums show. This was my first time visiting Gage Park and although I visited only the greenhouse, it was a great experience.
Pretty great place for a walk, food place to bring your kids. They have an awesome green house going on. Lots of adventuring.
Near to house, it is very peaceful to roam around and see all the flowers and some of the festivals that takes place here.
The tropical greenhouse is beautiful and welcoming, with free admission. Watch out for the wildlife wandering around!
Beautiful, not crowded, fun! An area, behind the green house you can enjoy the gorgeous roses. And is a huge park.
Truly beautiful Fall and Mum show! Must see for a family event. Tickets $8 for adults, children free.
Went to the mum show. Great show, Medieval Theme was well done. Worth the money and the time to see.
Nice place for a weekend. Nice park for a dog walk. Tulips a also amazing. Highly recommended !
Beautiful tulips at both entrances to the park at the end of April/early May! Highly recommend!
Beautiful flowers with variety of roses. Excellent, clean playgrounds and good water parks.
My childhood park . Best place for festivals especially the festival of friends!
