Gecko's is primarily a bar atmosphere. I've been in a few times, but this most recent visit wasn't anything stellar and would have definitely prevented my return visit had I not had better service before. We went in on Dec 23, after a day of shopping and procrastinating to meet some friends for a drink. They already had drink when we sat down, we pulled over another table to combine them. We kept flagging down servers only to get 'oh I'll get your server'. All I wanted right away was water. After 20 minutes we received water and some menus for beer/food. We were ready to order, but again no waitress in sight. Our friends had their food and drinks delivered by another person and we indicated we were ready to order in hopes someone would send over our server. A while later, we finally got to order while the others were closing out and paying. The nachos were good, but the strangeness with the beans made me modify their regular nachos to just regular plain beans. The nachos were good and a decent portion, the cheese was fantastic with a good ratio of toppings. My next visit probably wouldn't be with a group hoping to all hang out together, but instead a quick pop at the counter for a drink and a snack.
I have been wanting to go here for months because it's so close to my home. Unfortunately had a bad first experience. A friend and I had felt like one of the other bartenders was being rude to us and when her bf went to make a complaint, we watched the lady tell the man we were talking about and they laughed. Right afterwards I was brought my card and we were asked to leave. After talking with the man for a few he apologized for the misunderstanding and we did as well. I think we were allowed to stay after that but we had wanted to go anyways so they made our decision for us. The man's civil interaction with us is why they're getting 2 stars and not 1. I've worked in food and customer service for years. I understand not all interactions reflect on all of the staff, so I may be back to give them a second chance. Until then Brickyard is where we will be going.
Hidden in the corner of the Nob Hill Business square there’s a delightful little bar that serves fantastic food! I wasn’t sure what to expect as it’s a bar atmosphere and one in the afternoon but the Shrimp Marisco was delicious with these great fried triangle chips. The tomatoes were so fresh they tasted like they were picked that morning. Curly fries & onion rings both big enough to share. My friend ordered the gyros and it was so big she took half home for later. I tried her Tzatziki sauce and it was lip smacking good. The wait staff was friendly and fast. 10/10 would recommend.

Orale, me and my Jaina went by to grab a bite, so we ordered a burger. 47 minutes later we got a burnt piece of charcoal and some soggy ass fries. They said there was only one cook working, but I seent 3 different cooks peeking out of the kitchen window, watching us eat the black burgers. My jaina was all hangry. So, of course, she started scarfing down the burnt burger that was luckily masked with an egg and avacado. The manager says "we'll only comp one, since we noticed you've been eating them anyway". When my Jaina smiled at me, she had charcoal in her teeth. When she wiped her mouth the pinche napkin was black!! Had to bring my Jaina next door to Scalos for a drink, but eee her taste buds are all scrapped off from the charcoal. I will never eat there again, will never recommend. I'm extremely disappointed. Negative 5 stars.
On 02/20/2023 at 1:45pm No experience to share because unfortunately NONE of the staff greeted my wife and I as we assumed to seat ourselves from the stoic and clearly annoyed look on the bartender's face that we were instead greeted with. We sat down and waited for the bartender or anyone else (preferably at that point) to help us or even greet us. We waited 10 minutes and then we left as we were clearly not welcomed and we're not going to be helped. I worked in the service industry for years up until last year and never have I treated people in such dismissive and in my opinion descriminatory way my wife and I were treated in this establishment. This experience has completely ruined your brand to me and I will neither return nor recommend your restaurant. I would've gave it ZERO stars if it was possible.
Only three stars because they only have one vegan selection which is really good, but pricey, 7 bucks for some hummus and pita bread! It's good though, if you have the money and just want something small to eat. Oh I'm sorry, they have a house salad as well. It is a bit pricey though, it seems for anything. They have yummy beer though. The veggie burger, is what I used to order before giving up dairy products and it is really, really yummy and comes with a side of fries. It might even be vegan, I'm not sure though, I stay away from breads at restaurants, except pita, because there's milk in bread sometimes. It's a nice little joint in Nob Hill though, not far from all the action, ok my action I guess, and is right there on central so one can just hop on a red line or green line from ATC.
I have been here many times and have had various different experiences. One of the times I bought a specialty drink and tipped 100%. I tasted my drink and it tasted like pineapple juice, but I could not taste a hint of jagermeister. So I asked the bartender if they could add a splash of jagermeister and she told me that she used the accurate measures for this drink and that she would have to charge me extra. As a loyal customer, I felt that this was rude considering that I was not asking for an additional shot. Also, We ubered 15 minutes to Geckos to get a drink. We arrived at 1:25am and they REFUSED to serve us. On google it says that it closes at 2:00am. They told us that they were only serving customers who had already been served. Open late, meh service and drinks.
This was one of my favorite places to go and relax and enjoy some food and drinks. However yesterday it was horrible absolutely horrible the service was extremely slow and it wasnt busy at all. My uncle had get up many times to get his drink because it was sitting there forever. Not to mention they put a drink on the table that no one ordered and gavs it to mt husband who is 12 years clean!!!! I am extremely upset with this. He was very upset i cant believe you just set alcohol in front of someone that looks exactly like the drink they were drinking originally. The drinks were extremely strong and the bar tender looled like she was on coke or something. Megan and Bunny were horrible. I wont be going here again!
As a Rugby fan I can tell you right now, the owner of Gecko's ALWAYS makes sure to have a match on when it's Rugby season. Most places only play football, basketball, or possibly European Football (soccer to the Americans). This is only one of the perks as the bar is incredibly well stocked, bartenders know how to make your drinks right, and frankly, the food is just out of this world. It's a good place to catch up with friends and casual enough that dogs are allowed in the outside area. Be aware that smoking is permitted outside so if that's something you don't wish to be around, head inside and find a table.
This place is typical of how albuquerque came up from the 60's on. The guy that owns this place is another ex-wise guy who came out west from the east with a ton of blood money and started a business. I gave it 2 stars, one for the decent food and one for the decent drink value. With that being said, running a criminal empire and running a legitimate business aren't the same. The customer service is always lacking in an underground business, which explains the low class customer focus. A legitimate businessman would understand what i'm talking about. This owner is one of those.
Gecko's has delicious nachos, but I never go to eat them because I don't wanna die from second hand smoke. Every time I walk by the patio it reeks of cigarettes, like the clientele is just trying to smoke themselves to death. I understand this is a "bar", but it's also 2016...time to redefine what "bar" means. For them to allow smoking customers to just sit there and put cancer in the air while other non-smoking customers get their eat on is just disgusting, and keeps myself along with many others from coming. But damn, those nachos were good.
An awesome neighborhood bar with a decor that blends New Mexico’s funky and artistic flavor with the requisite big TV screens for watching sports. The lunch menu had a large selection of burgers and sandwiches, including vegetarian choices. A good tap selection and a cocktail and wine menu. Excellent service. The outdoor seating area gives you a good view of the Sandias and while close enough to Central Ave. so you can enjoy its colorful character, it’s not right next to it and you can actually have a conversation over the sound of traffic.
I can't say anything about the inside because I was sitting outside with a muffin enjoying the sun and pondering the menu when a very zealous person came out to tell me the outdoor patio was for patrons only. When I protested that they weren't even open yet she stated that "we're opening right now actually" and went on to state that I might find an alternative place to sit "in the back" – of the plaza? I left angry and threatened this review. Perhaps this person will read and realize that "patrons" are everywhere.....
We love geckos! We’ve been coming here for years as our neighborhood bar and grill and the service has always been great. They are friendly and always accommodating. We moved away for three years and finally made it back to geckos last night. We were not disappointed. The food was as good as always and while their were new faces they were as friendly as ever. Their prices remain great despite inflation and their nightly specials are still in place. Great job geckos!
Food is good with a serving portion worth every penny. Drinks "toast to server!" Environment upbeat & motivating. Could upgrade furniture & few other adjustments in older bar. Nob hill rite on the smack middle of perfect picked spot for a bar. Check identification. Workers make sure customers responsibly are not driving do to drinking. Watch how serving alcohol & where it goes exactly. Very respectful employees & well served restraunt.
Love this place but it gets 2 stars because we were over charged by 40 dollars. When we ask for correction she offer to fix the bill and split the bill. Apparently she decided to split the bill unevenly and only fix a few things. Once we called the manager she lied more than twice to his face. By then we resorted to feel bad for this owner and the bad fame the staff’s behavior is bringing to the establishment
So exited to visit and support one of my favorite local establishments today. Unfortunately the waitress and bartender were disappointing in their lack of enthusiasm to acknowledge us or take our simple order. We ended up leaving. So sad. They were not overwhelmed with customers, just didn’t seem to care. I was expecting them to be excited too. Geckos, your’e better than that!
Late night with a group of friends. The food was okay, drinks okay, service good. It's way too noisy and too many TVs in such a small space. Fairly crowded for a weeknight, I guess they were there to watch sports. If you want a more relaxed environment to visit, I'd consider other bars.

Consistently good food, drinks and service at very reasonable prices. More diverse and interesting menu than expected and if you order off the specials menu, deals that find no comparison. But, it is a dive and everything from the food to the tables and the drinks have that tint. I personally feel very comfortable in this environment but it’s not for everyone.
Super nice casual drinking and dining especially when weather allows for the patio. Music a little edgy which I love. Nice tapas menu dishes around ten bucks. I love this place for first dates and obviously return lol. Been around forever for a reason

Rude owner, doesn’t take customer complaints seriously. As a person in the customer service industry there is a way to handle complaints, regardless of you think the person is right or wrong. Used to be my favorite spot. I love going to give my money to an owner who hangs up on customers and refuses to hear them out.
There are daily specials at Gecko. Tonight, Tuesday, we scored with a buy 2 get 1 free tapas. The Mac and cheese with bacon and green chile was a winner. I would also do the falafels again. They have a wide variety of liquors and beers. If you're looking to watch a sports game this a great spot for it.
My brother and I came for lunch on an early Sunday afternoon, and we sat at the bar. I had a couple of IPA drafts and the Gecko sandwich with a salad. There were a few customers around the restaurant. The bartender gave excellent service, and the food was great! I will be returning to this restaurant.
I LOVE the burgers here. The service is usually very good and there is an outdoor patio. I usually sit indoors because the cigarette smoke outdoors isn't tolerable. I also think the murals inside are a little demeaning towards women. Other than that, it's a good place for a burger and beer.
I like Geckos. Tasty bar food, selections for vegetarians, nice and dark and cozy, a great place to get a wee bit tipsy, then walk home with a full tummy and the giggles. Sometimes too crowded and not easy to find a place to sit and eat, but I guess we shoulda gone earlier!
Great local joint. Excellent service (all the servers are great...Rich top notch bartender), great drinks, and excellent food.....hard to find in one spot. Employees are dedicated and almost no turnover...says a lot. Great patio and dog friendly. One of my favorites!!!!
Friendly peeps, great drinks, quick and tasty food, cozy atmosphere, good music, great patio location next to both Central and the Co-op, happy hour deals. Prob my favorite bar in Albq honestly. They also have my favorite cider ever- Ace Pear Cider …
Service on the patio is always a bit slow, but worth the wait. The servers there are awesome and point, plus the "baconator" (for our furry friends) loves pooches and has a great smile. I have never had anything there, food wise, that I haven't enjoyed.
Service started off a hair slow. Then it picked up and things were smooth. The beer was good and the half-price burgers were great. We had a good time. We were inside but I think a patio seat would have been better. It was super nice outside.
I have often stopped by to grab a bite and a drink here over the years, their disregard for the health mandate and loyalty to Cheeto Mussolini has changed all this, I support Nob Hill businesses but not Gecko's, just sad and disappointing
Good ol gecko's patio. Abq staple at this point I would say. Always a great choice for drinks and snacks on a patio. With plenty of people watching too. Throw in the decent drinks at affordable rates and, well I'll be back! Enjoy!
Got the fried chicken po boy. Chicken was cooked wonderfully, great atmosphere. Very cozy and quaint. My only complaint with the post boy was that the chicken sandwich was little pieces of chicken instead of one or two big pieces.
We love to stop by geckos after work after a long week. Delicious food in top us plus they've got great drinks as well. You can sit out on the patio and it's east facing so the sun won't be in your eyes. Would recommend.
The pulled pork is awesome!. Sweet and tart, and the cole slaw topping brings it all together.. The staff is friendly and will ask the kitchen any questions about gluten free options! Definitely coming back to this one!
Great experience Everytime foods phenomenal alcohol is tremendous everything moderately priced I get to smoke cigars and my well behaved animal is always greeted with love bacon and ice water what more could you want?
An Albuquerque staple! Excellent food, large portions, good specials, and typically smiling (if sometimes very busy) staff. The patio is lovely, but go early if you'd like to get a table when the weather is nice!
Great beer selection and nightlife spot in Nob Hill. I like that it's close to home and it's a happening spot. Didn't try the food but my lady friend was drinking mixed drinks which seem to be strongly poured.
This has become for me my "neigh borhood pub." In the friendly crowd that gathers there I've found friends; the food is very good, and reliable; and the staff--especially Stephanie the bartender--are superb.
It's the Cheers of Nob Hill and everyone ends up there at some point. Great group of people work there and it has an amazing patio during the warm months. Just go, and I'll see you there after my shift.
Didn't actually get to eat there because it's more of a bar at nights and doesn't allow children (our fault for not calling ahead and asking) But the outdoor patio looked like fun for adult patrons.
Its an old standby. like the wed burger deal. However the patio is just way to smokey for me. Sometimes the tap beers taste a little off. This location has stopped serving lunch until three.
The atmosphere is laid back & the vibe is chill. Service was great. Had a few tapas plates & they were yummy! Had a couple of old fashioned, served nice & strong. Hidden gem in Nob Hill.
Great hole in the wall bar. Bartenders are absolutely the best! (Joe, Steph and Taylor). Get there early to get good seats. Locals are very friendly and make good conversation. More

The waiter was prompt and attentive, the atmosphere was peaceful compared to the traffic outside, I ordered the hot pastrami and provolone on a hoagie and it was fantastic!
Great place for beer and tapas, they have a great selection of drinks and cocktails on the daily, great local ingredients are used and it has a patio that is pet friendly.
My wife and I love this place. Perfect for tapas and drinks. The calamari is amazing! Dog-friendly patio. Great murals inside. We enjoy Sundays outside nearly year round.
Really good bar food and good lively atmosphere. Great for a late night meal. The beers on tap provide a good variety the cocktails and liquor on hand are solid.
Onion rings and seared tuna! Chilly sitting outside (thanks COVID for the limited indoor capacity ) but lovely atmosphere anyways! Very very kind waitress. …
We visit this spot prob at least once a week. Definitely a must for solid drinks/drink specials and delicious grub. I usually get the burger, but I'm a bit bias.
The food is amazing, well prepared and the presentation is always on point. The servers and bar tenders are always super friendly. My favorite spot in Nob Hill
We rarely have a good experience at this bar, and we've given it a few tries. Bad service, bad drinks, and it's dirty. Time to make room for something better.
The food here is suprisingly delicious. There are daily drink specials and the staff is really nice and helpful if you don't know exactly what you want.
Best green chili chicken nachos ever. My friend told me about Geckos in Albuquerque and it did not disappoint. The prices are great and so is the food!
Other night really good but tonight bartender talking to friends servers are filling drink orders so really slow wanted to eat only had couple of beers
Always come in for the nachos and they are always good. They take bar food to another level. It also has a nice patio to sit on for the summer months.

We love this place! Anytime we're in town it's one of the first places we stop. Amazing staff, killer food & drinks, super clean and welcoming.
Fantastic pub and bistro! I the grilled cheese was all I wanted today and it satisfied! The green chili stew was an extra bit of awesomeness!
Great food! Great wait staff and bartenders! Awesome patio in Nob Hill! ...and it's been around since at least the mid 80's. Enough said...
Spent an entire summer here enjoying the warm and silky nights of Albuquerque. The music was wonderful. Made some lasting friendships to.
Food is good but they are always under staffed. If you're going there to eat, get there like an hour before you think you'll be hungry.
This place was great! Got a chance to spend some time chatting with the owner (it was his birthday). Great place for food and drinks.
Always a classic. Great tapas for groups or treat yourself and get an order of nachos. Good beer selection and mixed drinks as well.
Wonderful! Very friendly, great drinks and food. Staff was excellant. Thank you, Grecko's for supporting this GLBT community event.
Nice little outdoor patio in a small shopping center. Waiter was very accommodating. Decent cheeseburger, good selection of beers.
Great place for happy hour especially in the warmer months when the patio is open. I appreciate they have local brews as well.
Always a good place to chill!!!:) Bailey drink and food specials she hasn't been there check it out!!you will always come back
Nice place for a beer and there's decent seating outside. Sometimes your down wind of a smoker, but it's usually survivable.
Music is on point, and a rad outside patio (smoking allowed.) Decent happy hour. I dream about their veggie buffalo wings..
I guess it's fine if you just want salty food and a beer. Don't bother with a cocktail and don't expect excellent service.
Pricey...But good. The specials are decent on beer depending what day you come in. And all the food I've gotten is tastey
Fast and friendly service even on a really busy night! Sat to listen to music during summer fest and they were on top it!
My first visit here in probably a year or so. The food is always fine and the service rarely is. Today was true to form.
Best Sunday morning football! Every drink you want, guaranteed your game's on and its not packed with obnoxious people!
Well priced, clean and wonderful staff. Great art on the walls too!! One of the most consistent places to get a drink.
Rude staff, subpar food and drinks. Most of the tables are gross and sticky. I remember this place being much better.
Probably 4 stars, but Riley was an awesome waitress, and my 1/2 pound burger was close to well done. We'll be back!
I always enjoy myself here. The food is yum and not expensive. Drinks are strong and there's great people-watching
I had an OUTSTANDING Ruben sandwich here last week. I had never eaten there before but I'll definitely be back!
Love the xtra hot buffalo wings. Half price burger Wednesday is a must. Drinks are cold. Atmosphere is awesome!
Great place to eat and drink. Fabulous Rubin sandwiches with crispy curl French fries with fine wine! …
I come here monthly. Good strong pour drinks and vegetarian options. Just wish they would rotate the menu more.
So many good sandwiches, char broiled burgers - and the slaw is wonderful! As is the wine list and the service.
The service was a little slow. But they were busy, so it's understandable. But the food was pretty good.
A great, tucked away bar with an atmosphere very true to the Nob Hill style. And a great beer selection!
Always a chill patio to hang with my pup. Good deal for burger and a beer on Wednesdays! …
Good food. Open late, and fun whether or not you're drinking. Great Patio, and other local attractions.
Delicious chili cheese fries, good happy hour specials. One of my favorites for tapas! Get there early!
Great lil bar and grill built into a pretty antique strip mall. Usually one of my go to's in Nob Hill.
cheap drinks and greasy yummy green chili cheese fries! and excellent wait staff, always on top of it!
I go in about twice a year and the locals are very nice and friendly. Food is also good and different.
My dog brings me here all the time. It's his favorite place. Probably because they feed him bacon.
Most of us call it cheers. Good pub food and friendly staff. Drink prices are reasonable as well.
Great deals, nice atmosphere. I've been comming here since I turned 21 and I love it ever since.
Impressed by 2 seafood dishes and their fresh beer selection/taps. Great outdoor space as well.
My favorite bar near home. The food is comfort zone, but, with a twist. Also, Rosa is the best.
Great neighborhood bar with some of the best bar food bn in town. can't go wrong with the BLT!
