Today, August 21th, 2023, between 11:00 and 11:30 a.m., I went to Hamilton, Cannon St E - #21 Store and I needed to buy some lemons, rice and muffins. However, I needed to use the restroom and found that it was locked. I proceeded to tell the lady in the underwear area if I could use the restroom. She immediately looked at my shopping basket and looked me up and down (I was not wearing fancy clothes) and the lady said she could NOT lend it, that the restroom was damaged. However, there was no notice indicating that it was damaged. On the contrary, I felt that this lady discriminated against me because of my migrant status, as I am obviously not Canadian and because I was wearing very casual clothes. I was going to continue with my purchase, but in reality I felt that my dignity was mistreated and I was denied the use of such a basic service as the restroom, even though I was a customer and really needed it. I decided not to make any purchase and informed the lady at the cashier about the incident and she said she would lend me the restroom, meaning that the restroom was definitely NOT broken. However, I was very frustrated and discriminated against and left. It is NOT fair that because I am a different person, the lady felt that I, as a person, did NOT deserve to use the bathroom. Perhaps she does not know the medical implications that a person can have if they hold it too long and cannot urinate when they need to. It is unfortunate that this type of person does this type of thing to migrants in a multicultural country like Canada.

I love the affordability of the products. They are very close to where I live which is a huge plus. Wish they had better stock or variety of products like lactose-free milk or good quality olive oil/chocolate/coffee/fresh meat/fresher produce/etc. but it's a discount retailer. Also wished they closed at 10PM instead of 9 so I can hit it up after I finish work but otherwise a tremendous gem. Saving tons on groceries already. Where they lose points is: They only have the barest of essentials/whatever’s ordinary or popular like the ’original’ of things & nothing fun or variety-filled. I’m reiterating the previous paragraph for emphasis. Plus, I very recently (on July 14th) got mouldy, expired Belgian (Liège-style) waffles here (room temp, individually-wrapped, Oakrun Farms). They were under $6 so I didn’t mind but the expiration date was July 9th when I finally got around to checking it. I’m usually very faithful at checking expiry dates but isn’t it ULTIMATELY the staff’s responsibility to make sure no expired products line their shelves? People can get sick. Moreover, back in May/June-ish, a nice cashier (whom BTW I still don’t hate & remains a very good person to this day) was in a not-so-great mood & manhandled + bruised my mushrooms. I sorely regretted the fact there were no self-checkouts purely due to this incident.

Says more about Hamilton than any tourism advertisement could. Shopped here as jobless delinquent and felt euphoric coming out with full bags of groceries having spent under $20. Staff probably put up with more unreasonable people than I ever will in my lifetime and still manage to crack jokes and smile (not all the time, but that’s totally fair). Feels like an unintentional thirty-year throwback to when department stores didn’t span a city block and couldn’t carry four different kinds of quinoa and dried-fruit pre-packaged salad mix. Here, you get green coleslaw by the tub and it is DELICIOUS. Will it be in stock next week? Maybe, maybe not; maybe you’ll never see that brand in any store ever again (including Giant Tiger), but who cares! It’s $2! If you prefer to shop places where the floors are shinier than the change in your pocket, shop somewhere else. Giant Tiger forever.

The elderly lady that works during the day on the cash register with white hair and glasses has no name tag on her uniform. After multiple interactions with this lady, it's clear why she has no name tag. She's rude, ignorant, and rolls her eyes while giving a look of pure disgust blatantly right in your face while checking out with your merchandise. Either she hates her life or job, which makes me sad. She, however, should not be working with the public as her attitude is poor beyond words. Day in and day out. I've never seen her smile. Which is also fine, but when adding a look of disgust and rolling her eyes before even turning her head away from you to grab something you've asked for, like she's trying to have you notice that's she's a miserable witch. Poor lady. Retire already because you make giant tigers customer service overly poor. Shame on you.

Today I bought these chocolate chip muffins from GT, I normally go to the upper Ottawa location but since I was in the neighborhood I figured I come check out this store. Went home and gave them to my baby because she normally loves muffins and noticed that she tossed them on the ground and showed no interest, so I tasted it myself and they had such a nasty flavour, and were stale as ever! I check the date and it expired in June (of 2021, this year). Just horrible! I didn’t think that I have to automatically check the expiration dates at giant tiger, because I normally love their store/products, guess I was wrong! Won’t be returning to shop at that store anymore! So disappointed..

I was at this store to purchase winter boots. The manager (or assistant manager) spoke loudly to a store employee nearby to "...make sure to check inside footwear, because customers will put things in the shoes and claim they didn't know". There's was no reason to be rude. I remember back in the day when the store first opened, the store had a customer appreciation day and the manager greeted customers while holding his baby daughter. I hope this wasn't the same manager, because it would be a shame. Nonetheless, the store is clean and well stocked. Although I find that the prices are becoming expensive, I still like to drop in when there's a sale.

Well great store as always not to hard to not fund a deal really on food, clothing, up to games n kids toys. You'll love it n deff find wat your looking for. Loved this little tiny Giant Tiger. Carries the same as the big stores but it is tiny. Great for people that don’t have the ability to walk far or stand for long periods of time. Lots of great deals on clothes and food products. Great service staff, friendly courteous and attentive. Really great store for people on pensions or low incomes. Great products at great prices. It even provides parking at the side. Thanks Giant Tiger for your many years of helping provide for the people of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Always have loved this Giant Tiger. Always friendly staff, clean environment, tons of deals all the time. Plus, they have a loyalty program too. Which can save you even more money. Best part I love about their store is their cargo black jeans I always buy there and the fruit and vegetables are always fresh. Try saying that about No Frills that is not too far away. I have, straight up, seen rotten foods on their shelves at no frills. Always good deals to be had at Giant Tiger.

It's a darn shame that a company that prides itself on customer service, fails so hard because of one employee. Honestly, learn to train your staff before putting them in a position because being in retail myself, I would never have been kept in the position I was given with the clueless attitude and at times rude temperament that was illustrated to me today. Might want to retrain some of your staff...or make sure they are in the right role at work.

Great place to purchase almost anything you need to see you through the week. From groceries, to toilet paper. Clothing, bedding, patio chairs. Just about everything you can think of. The open late hours are a bonus as well. The icing on the cake are the employees. They are made up of friends and neighbors and are the best in the business. If you haven't been to GT in a while, be sure to drop in to 33 Cannon st. and check them out.

I have been to many Giant Tigers in the past and I must admit ,this location has surpassed all my expectations, in particular the Manager Steve. There was a error on my bill ( mistakes happen) and Steve rectified the situation and actualy delivered the refund to my door in Toronto, which is a 45 min drive from his location. If that is not over and above..then I dont know what is. Thank you Steve.

It's okay. What do you expect? GT is a discount department store. They have most things anyone could want. Need a new pair of shorts for the cottage this weekend? They got 'em. Run out of basic grocery supplies? Yep. They have those too. Need a birthday card? There's a selection of those. Got the munchies? They have nuts, chips, and a wide variety of candies. All at a pretty good price.

I like this shop - excellent value and a reasonably wide variety of items. That said, it's frustrating that there is literally HALF the selection of plus size fashions as "regular" sizes. The "cute" styles and trendier items aren't available in plus. Other than that I'm really quite pleased with the variety of home wares and everyday essentials are regularly available.

I cannot believe the selection packed into this store. There appeared to be a great size selection. The freezer section in the back is most likely the envy of many other Giant Tigers. The cashier that served me was pleasant, friendly yet professional. I need to make my way to this location more often. I will make a point of stopping in here when I am in the area.

Love this little place. It has the look of an old corner store. But once you go in they have everything you could possibly need. If they don't have it they will order it for you. The staff is always very helpful and friendly. Even my Chihauhau likes this store, as she sniffs all the dog treats at nose level. She hasn't swollen any yet!! 5 star tack shop!!

On 10:50am October 1st my elderly mother visited this location to pick up cat litter. She was yelled at by a female employee saying that she was stealing! The employee went through my mother's cart and found nothing. I hope this store likes a lawsuit because that's what is going to happen. This is disgusting treatment of the elderly.

Interesting selection. A bit tight for space but they get all their usuals in. This place can run as many as five cashiers at a time and does on occasion! Staff can be helpful when insufficient numbers are available on the shelf although the stock room will not always have more but they often know when and if more is arriving.

1 star because of a rude employee (tall white bald overweight male with a beard) did not allow my friend into the store because he called her a shoplifter (because the shoplifter wore similar clothes, but they're different people). I have no more intention of doing business where rude people discriminate against poor people.

This chaotic store gives me anxiety. They don't do anything to protect shoppers from the heard of panhandles waiting at the doors in the parking lot and they swarm around you when u get to your car. There are some really good bargains and they often have some of the best prices for essential food like eggs, bread and milk.

Don't need to tell you about great deals and low prices, since it's what Giant Tiger is known for. Store is quiet big, with large selection of just about anything. Real good deals on furniture and seasonal items. Only downside is they always seem to be understaffed, so the wait at the register is longer then usual.

I used to shop here a lot. Now it seems that the focus is mostly on grocery items. Absolutely hate the layout. I feel like cattle. One way shopping isn't my thing. No shortcuts here so if you now realize that the item you want is near the entrance, you have to walk all the way around the store to get back there.

Staff walking around treating everyday people like they're shoplifting, asked for assistance in a price of something both female staff were rude stating they were going on they're break ask someone else. I feel bad for owner who most likely doesn't think his staff have low respect him and his livelihood

They refused to let me exchange the size on an obviously UNOPEN 6 pack of underwear ($12.97). And the little snippet behind the counter took far too much pleasure with my displeasure, even speaking to the following people in line about my mood. Times have sure changed in the service industry.

Great gem in the middle of downtown Hamilton. I'm always amazed the kind of deals they have. It doesn't look great from the outside but inside is great. They have brand name products on sale so much cheaper than other grocery stores. Plus they have free parking along the side.

Went to G.T. to pick up advertised deals. I was not disappointed, great price for Angelo ribs, Jane's chicken wings and cooked chicken strips! Being a VIP member of G.T. i managed to get some additional savings on already low prices! Definitely worth a trip to Giant Tiger!

The Cannon street location no longer has shopping carts for children. What an inconvenience when they insist that you shop with their cart or basket. How can I hold my child, basket and shop all at the same time. Last time I checked, I do not have three arms.

was physically assaulted by one of the cashiers ! old lady with white hair. She grabbed me by the backpack and threw me to the floor, leaving my assistive device to roll out the door. extremely ableist and violent cashiers work here. avoid at all costs!!!!!!!

This is one of the original Giant Tigers in Hamilton but now they are one of the smallest. They have a good selection of women's clothes but their children selection of clothes is not as good. The deals are great and often they have quite fashionable piecea.

This downtown location is very efficient . I find staff 100% helpful, approachable & always willing to assist a customer. Store has great weekly deals, food & produce fresh & reasonable priced. Thoroughly enjoy shopping at Giant Tiger , a pleased customer.

I always like to visit this store for clothing and also for some house essentials. They offer better prizes and some of the sales are as low as 70 to 80 percent of the real prices. I literally bought clothes for my daughter @ $2 each from clearance rack.

Inexpensive prices for the quality of goods. I really like the new fruit and vegetables. Small but decent selection of vegetables. You can shop for a decent and affordable meal quickly on the way home from work. Good selection of clothing basics.

They had things on the shelf with the wrong prices, did not honour those prices, didn't have any bags (even to purchase) that would fit what I purchased. If you sell it, you should have bags available that fit it. Just overall quite unsatisfied.

Great plants, and essentials. Nice outfits if you're fit, still fond of my orange with white star short sleeve jersey with short shorts I got teased for wearing. Now, I just go there for food, purses, gloves, jewelry, plants, and greeting cards.

Way too cramped and crowded. Can't look at something longer than 5 seconds without either a customer or employee being in your way or you being in their way which makes shopping here always frustrating. The grocery has a decent selection

I like this location as it is a larger store and it has more variety. Far from where I live but worth the drive to get certain items. I find not all the stores have all the same items it could be some are not able to due to store size.

They have household goods, clothing, and groceries... Very much like a miniature Walmart, and better-looking since the remodeling job. They don't have everything but they have a really good variety, and their prices aren't bad!

This store packs alot of product into a small space . There's no room for a mobility scooter to travel . The staff I've always found to be pleasant and helpful. I've never had a problem with anything I've purchased thus far.

This Giant Tiger is in the heart of Hamilton and is one of the longest running ones around. They are going through a transformation but are continuing to offer great clothes and great products at the same wonderful prices.

Ample stocks of most everything at very good prices. Easy to find things and well-staffed too. Clothes actually came in all sizes. Friendly, efficient checkout. Good location downtown and plenty of parking.

Besides the fact that apparently clothing is not essential (says who) for what I needed Giant Tiger for was definitely a very speedy visit if u want to avoid long lines this place is the place to shop

The Giant Store was redesigned some months ago making it easier to shop around. Things are now well laid out. A store which once looked very small is now looking very large and comfortable to shop

This store is under renovation but you can still get around and find all the deals that they have to offer. The staff are very helpful and friendly. At times they could add an extra cashier.
