When you look at Google reviews for a gym, you are looking to see if they are going to be shady about the billing. Unfortunately this is yet another case here... Understand that this gym will directly lie to you. I'm not going to go into some emotional paragraph, I will just state the facts. I went into the gym last week looking for a guest pass to try it out. Tim said that they don't offer guest passes because of Covid and he recommend that I just join for the $1 sign up promotion. I told him that I'm traveling for the holidays and that I won't be back to SA for good until January, so I don't want to sign up for anything yet before I try out a few gyms in the area. Tim said that if I sign up today, I can cancel before October 25 and only be charged for that $1. I went to the gym twice that week, and cancelled on Oct 24 due to them not having any bumper plates or HIIT room available. Sure enough $32 came out on Oct 26. I called and the front desk lady said that Tim was "eating", and asked if he could call me back. He didn't call me back until the next day. He denied saying what he said. I talked to the GM (Randy), and Randy says that he "remembers the conversation exactly" between me and Tim. Randy wasn't even in Tim's office when I signed up! Lol. Long story. They won't credit me. Just be careful, that's all. Really sad that people are doing this stuff still. Hopefully I don't get charged again next month smh...

I made an appointment Friday night with a staff member for Saturday morning at 9am to meet with someone to go over membership options and personal training. I've been to this gym in the past and always had a pleasant experience with the staff. I was there early and decided to get on the bike while I waited for my appointment. When it was 9am, I went to the front desk only to find out the assistant manager wasn't there yet and was ultimately told he wasn't going to be meeting with me. The staff member did assist me in signing me up with my membership. To the staff member, it didn't seem like a big deal that the assistant manager wasn't going to meet with me, but to me I was very disappointed. I was looking forward to getting signed up for personal training so I can start this journey into improving my health. I was informed the assistant manager would call me back. He did call me back later in the day but where I was didn't have cell phone reception so I missed his call. Once I was able to, I called him back about 2 hours later only to be informed that he was on his way out the door and was unable to speak to me. I was again informed that someone would be calling me back today which I'm not counting on since it's the 4th of July. I like this gym because of the convenience of it's location. I don't want this unfortunate first impression to deter me from my fitness goal.

I was extremely hesitant signing up to a gym subscription and wanted to make sure I'd get my money's worth because of my schedule, making it tough to take full advantage of daily classes and other perks. Mariah was very nice and explained their membership very well. She took the time to listen to my situations and really made me feel welcome. I signed up with Jason and he was extremely helpful, informative, and considerate! He went above and beyond to help us with anything we needed and still does! Jamal set me up with their 3D Fitness Profile and let me tell you: I didn't want to look at that at first, but it was so detailed and insightful that I ended up sooo happy that I did. He seriously knows his stuff! I never felt uncomfortable talking to anyone at this gym and never felt like I was asking too many questions. I have been very happy with this place and people working here that I brought a friend as well! One of the managers was there at the time and he also did amazing in making her feel welcome! I have no regrets and seriously look forward to coming in all the time. Do it! Change your life for the better! You wont regret it either!

Has everything you need for a good price. Always a little behind on maintenance though. Broken lockers, hot water out, nothing but hot water, pool closed, hot tub closed, elliptical machines resistance differs pretty substantially from machine to machine. Every gym has these problems but this gym seems to be plagued with little things always being broken. Edited a year later: To be fair the gym has really good weights and a good crossfit area and the offer a pretty good suite of classes. The hot water and lockers don't seem to be nagging little problems anymore. The indoor pool is always pretty clear and the PH is well adjusted which is not a small feat for indoor pools. The only real issue I have is the elliptical machines resistance, which some of them have a permanent level 1, 1 or 2 will have a permanent high level of resistance and 1 or 2 will be well adjusted (bank of 10 or 12. I guess this bothers me because that's mostly what I do at the gym while most other users would care a lot less. And the gym upgraded its stairmasters to newer models.

I've attended this gym since 2004. It has older equipment that hasn't seen a lot of proper maintenance, but what it's lacking in "beauty" or visual appeal, the equipment will help you achieve and surpass your goals. Pros: There are many redundancies in equipment type which is great during the gym rush hours. If someone is on a piece of equipment you need, there's usually another 2-3 options available for you. They have childcare in house for the busy parent(s) still looking to get some gym time in their schedule. The restrooms are well maintained and cleaned. The staff here are great and treat you like family. Cons: As mentioned in the intro, the equipment is old, so if you're wanting shiny machines to sit on while updating your social media...this is not the place for you. The equipment could use a little TLC (i.e. polish off rust, spray some WD-40 on equipment, etc.). There are a lot homeless people in the area which may make it uncomfortable for some people later at night.

Not happy at all. I was a customer in good standing for a year and a half and after checking my bank statement I noticed an extra charge for 25.00. I contacted the front desk and they claimed it it was a late charge. Keep in mind now that I was on direct deposit and showed them my bank statements proving there was more then enough funds in my bank. Even with all the facts I was informed that there district manager was responsible for not willing to rectify this mistake. I caution anybody to check your bank statements and choose another gym to avoid getting ripped off. On another note Adriana at the front desk was very friendly and actually understood the concept of customer service unlike her management.

I appreciate the reviews on Yelp. They provide me with information on these businesses. For those who speak up regarding service, cleanliness, and interaction with the staff is very valuable to me in making decisions to join or use these businesses. I have gone through All of the Gold's Gym locations near to me and a few I would have to drive extra 10 to 15 minutes to access. Many people are saying they don't like the staff, cleanliness, and staffing plus the membership issues..WOW! And what I have noticed most is that the Management nor Corporate of Gold's does Not respond or attempt to resolve any of the problems. Thanks Yelp for helping people like myself in avoiding wasting our money !

The gym has great equipment, and the pool (I have not used) seems very clean. I enjoy the classes that I can drop into on my way home from work, no prior reservation needed. The only issue I have had is with them trying to upsell personal training. I purchased 2 sessions, and was scheduled for 4. When I had to cancel my second session, I was told I would get a call back to rescedule. My phone rang once when I was in a meeting, so I sent to voicemail. later that afternoon, I checked my VM and there was no message. However the next morning I was charged for the second appointment, and the email receipt said "No Show". I did not bother to call and fix the error. I use another Gold's Gym.

This Gym has been amazing for me and has met expectations in the highest ways. I started coming to this gym after I enlisted into the Navy, I started workouts with the personal trainer Darren Frett and He has made my gym experience amazing. He teaches me workouts and guides me through them as well as explains what the workout does for my body and how it can help me. He knows I need to get ready for Navy bootcamp and he is helping me be able to get prepared physically, and hold's me accountable and keeps me on track! I have gained so much progress in a short time because he is a very great personal trainer and I am grateful for all the help he has given me!

Its improving so much throughout this year 2020! I've been getting stronger despite the pandemic. The only flaw is I wish members would stop using their phones while sitting on equipment! But overall 2 stars added back for improvement! But reopening the sauna and pool would be lovely... For all you mask supporters and lovers you will barely see people wearing masks, so no childlike complaints allowed either! Update as of Feb 2023: I wish members would stop standing and staring at me while I am using the equipment just so they can use it. That is very creepy and annoying.

  • Barbara Insco

I have been very pleased with the gym. It is clean and has lots of equipment. Since I am a senior I am able to use the Silver Sneakers classes there which are helpful and enjoyable. The thing I like best about going to Gold's Gym is working with my trainer, Darren. I cannot say enough positive thing about my experiences working with him. He listens to what I want to accomplish, how I feel during and after workouts and is very positive all the time. If you are looking for a friendly, clean, and well equipped gym, I highly recommend Gold's Gym on Nacogdoches.

One of the worst customer service experiences of my life. Had to put my account on hold and the girl working at the front never turned in my paperwork so I was charged several times. Getting in touch with a manager is a total joke. Jonathan helped me over the phone last and was the only one who helped me at all. After dealing with the issue for over a month I finally called customer service and had my contract cancelled. I will NEVER deal with this gym again in my life. Back to good old planet fitness I go, where I know I will have a good experience.

  • Teresa Arnao Dietz

Extremely DISAPPOINTING, read the contract before you sign it, even if you ask them to freeze your account, after a year later of paying off the cancellation fees, they have the nerve to send first credit to try to make me paid an extra $50.00! I called and the assistant manager told me that I had a 12 month contract and I still have to pay even more! Even though I paid them to cancel! I lost money ! DON'T JOIN THIS SCAMMERS! THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY ! IF THEY DON'T FIX THIS I PROMISE I RATHER HIRE AN ATTORNEY THAN GIVING IN THEIR BS!

  • Selena Rivers

This is my home gym, everyone is super friendly the gym is always so clean (cleanest golds gym I've been to). This is strength training Heaven. Home of 5 squat racks, like 4 leg press, 8 or 10 benches to do dumbbell exercises etc, 4 bench presses, 2 incline, 2 bumper plate lifting set ups (not like most new gyms we don't have the platform but we do have the bumper plates and two barbells ready for you to snatch, do cleans, deadlifts etc) they have so many awesome things and they're getting more equipment. This is such a great gym.

  • Debra Robinson

This gym has been there for years, but is kept modern and immaculate. The staff is great. The pool is spacious and allows plenty of time for individual workouts. There is a solid variety of classes, a child care area, and access to personal trainers. My husband is post stroke recovery and is making progress with twice weekly half hour sessions. Damien is helping him achieve and surpass his expectations. This center is "senior saturated" and what you see is a solid respect across the generations for personal goals.

  • myranda nombrano

Don’t sign up for golds gym!!! I have been trying to cancel my membership for months now! I went in and filled out paper work twice. Each time they tell me they will cancel within 30days. It doesn’t happen when I ask to speak to manager, a manager is never present and front desk person saying “I don’t know what to tell you, their is nothing I can do.” I fully understand it isn’t front desk persons fault but horrible customer service! They just want your money. Do yourself a favor and don’t get a membership!

  • Kendra Edwards

Thankful for Michael who signed me up today. I had a terrible experience with the Live Oak location when I scheduled an appointment and the sales person Billy didn't bother to show up, no call or anything. I almost gave up but drove to this location and was treated very nicely and with respect. I wish this location was closer to where I live. It is smaller and much more friendly. Michael was great and knowledgeable. I would recommend him anytime.

  • tiolrnow

I did personal training with Andrea Janss from September through December. She put me through some amazing athlete work outs and it was so fun. I suffered a horrible back injury during April 2021. Andrea helped me build back my posterior core and now my new body feels amazing. Thank you so much Gold’s Gym for your excellent winning culture and thank you Andrea for your expertise! I’m looking forward to returning to my hockey team in January!

  • G C

This location was not busy at all for "peak" hours. I was there at 6pm and left by 730pm. Very chill not all over crowded. Even though there is literally a Golds Gym in the parking lot of the hotel i stay at when in town, I will always go to this one moving forward! Clean, no ridiculous music. I recommend this location if you are wanting a great full workout after work and don't want to fight over bodies.

  • Sam Vandenbrink

Terrible management!! Jennifer set up my account, it was a $1 sign up and she told me I wasn’t going to be under contract (only reason I signed up) because I new I would be moving. Now that I’ve moved there charging me $100 cancellation still have to pay the next 2 months so a total of $200. Awful, think before you sign up for golds might as well go to La Fitness where they actually honor there word.

  • RighteousWilly

I have been a Gold's Gym member since 1999. I just retired and had to reduce my expenses, so the gym membership had to go. I recently submitted paperwork to terminate my membership. My credit card keeps getting the two week charge from Gold's Gym. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT get the automatic payment to your credit card set up because it is extremely difficult to stop it.

I been there once this place gym and It’s really nice equipment, have more equipment workout. But which one I really don’t like is pretty quiet gym and looks like we in library and that’s why I was making excuse why I really don’t like it . But I talk to Seth in front is nice guy. And maybe I will go back this gym because I have Gold Gym membership at Live Oak

  • Nadya Salama

The equipment is good. But their women's locker room is so dirty. I don't normally come to this golds but it's closer to me and I was on my way to work, wanted to get a quick workout in and get ready here but looks like I'm going home to get ready because the showers are just gross. I would post a picture but I'm not that harsh but truly bothered.

  • Kevin Femmel

Old outdated equipment that doesn’t work how you would expect compared to other golds locations and it’s way too dark inside especially at night. Also there is like 1 towel/cleaning station for the entire workout floor so if you want to catch something this is your gym. Good mostly for cardio and lower body, not so much upper body workouts

  • James Loera

Just started attending this location in Nov. '18. So far it's been ok. People usually leave you alone or are kind enough to answer a question or quickly help you out. I haven't experienced a lunkhead yet. My biggest knock is the cleanliness of the mens dressing room. YIKES. Has the equipment I need and isn't usually crowded when I go.

  • Richard Hong

All I need is a couple weights and machines and this place has them. This isn’t the place if you want a fancy “Lifetime-like” smoothie bar or towel service. Golds Gym excels at providing the equipment you need and the professional trainers to help you. Tim, the GM is a pretty friendly guy who is also well knowledgeable with workouts.

  • Phillip Morrison

First workout in training with Darren Frett was excellent. He’s very knowledgeable about his craft. Throughout the whole session he was concerned about my general physical health after each exercise. I have a bad back and he focused on my core the healing verses over exerting myself. I plan to continue training with this gentleman.

  • Ben S

good gold level gym, friendly staff, not the most high tech or prettiest in town but it gets the job done. They got everything you need here and a little bit more. Good free weights area, lot of treadmills, smallish pool, gender shared sauna. I've gone to higher end gyms that don't have as much selection as this place.

  • Matthew DuRousseau

Some times when I come thru its not a very welcoming place. From the reception clerk robotic moves and the over agressive sales manager trying to get your time. Signed up for a competition and never got my tee shirt that wasn't available. Been asking for it about a year. But the equipment and pool great choices...

  • joe fenn

So yall just not gonna this morning huh3/15/22 5:14am 2/27/23 5:15 Again you've chosen not to open ppl standing outside in an area that's getting worse with crime, and poverty. Last Monday you also chose not to open on time. 12yrs is long enough. time to try tru fit or crunch I suppose

  • TexazMane

Good gym that needs more barbells, theres never enough. You always have to find one and walk it to your station. just dont loose your badge its $10 for a replacement. They'd rather look up in the system everyday then give you another one. With the monthly cost this should be a perk. ‍♂️ …

  • Caroline Crosson

This place is a scam - my mom-in-law went in to sign up for the free Medicare program Silver Sneakers and convinced her to sign up for PT that they knew she would not be able to attend. Per the Better Business Bureau, they scam a lot of people and have filed Chapter 11. STAY AWAY!

  • Paul Singleton Jr

This is my favorite Golds in San Antonio. The staff is super friendly and very helpful. The gym is always clean and never packed of people, at learn in the mornings and mid afternoons. If it had a sauna it would be that much better but still ranks high in my book.

  • Quincy Wilson

This is a great lifters gym for people who are serious about lifting or novice who want to learn about lifting. Great atmosphere to get a great workout or do cardio. They have a wide range of equipment to use along with a pool and a Jacuzzi.

  • Primetime Galvan

Fast forward to 2023 and this place is the complete opposite. The worst general manager I've ever encountered. Thank goodness I have some proof of them charging me for three years after I canceled. I had been with Gold's Gym since 2000. So

  • Sandra Blinn

I paid for a year and 45 days in advance told them to cancel my membership (since they require 30 day notice). My membership contract and my notice all end on 9/24/16. Today I get an email that they billed me again. I call them and they

  • Cat Ramirez

I didn't like this place one bit. My husband and I wanted to join a gym for we was looking to loose weight, get fit and one that offers personal training. After walking in for the first time we was told that this place was an "Advanced

  • Geo Izaguirre

Well maintained and clean. Friendly staff, sauna is nice and spacious. Not the best looking golds gym but has fantastic equipment. Great gym to build them gains. Definitely will be returning when I go back to San Antonio Texas.

  • L 3

Idk who's doing this but they should not have a membership, every single piece of equipment I've used has had several plates on it, one had 8 plates on it , if you are strong enough to load that many than you can take them off

  • Patricia Alamia

I am able to have membership through my HMO which is a blessing. I love to participate in the Classic Silver Sneakers plus Yoga classes. I also enjoy their aqua fitness program which is also challenging and worthwhile.

  • Scott Reuter

Everything was great. Except recently they changed the music to rap which is NO motivation. Update: The music is still trash and kills the energy. Update: the music has gotten much better and improves the atmosphere.

  • Phaedra Florea

Would not recommend this gym. Went in to cancel myembership and was informed that I will also be billed for January. They informed me it was in the contract, however they do not underline it or point it out.

  • Donny Calvert

Men in the gym need to address there B.O. there is stuff called deodorant. Use it. Take a shower before training. And stop smoking dope before training. It doesn't help you gain anything and it stinks.

  • Lexi Murzea

Not my favorite Golds but not the worst. I wish they offered more mat based classes like yoga and pilates. All instructors I've taken classes with are great. The gym is clean and decently spacious.

  • Josie Garcia

Scam, month to month they still take your money weather you go or not. And don't forget to give 30 day cancelation or they will stack the bill then send to debt collector. Never go here

  • Frank J Rod

Excellent facility. This location is very clean & kept in order. Wish I didn't live so far. I just happened to have a spare hr & half before I picked up my son on that side of town.

  • Alex Ocasio

Staff is awesome and the free weight area is really good but they need to open the sauna. I don't know why it's closed when the other gold's around the area have their sauna open.

  • Gerardo Castaneda

Dirty and stinks ! The equipment it’s old and lot of machines does not work well ! Last time I the machine to do raw (back) just stop working and I almost get hurt

  • Tom Perez

Zach at the front desk was super nice and helpful! Great location with some different machines that I'd been dying to try. It's a clean location too.

  • SteffnStuff

Great gym! The staff is friendly, plenty of cardio/weight machines, and squat racks. They have Zumba and Body Pump classes, as well. Love this gym!

  • Orison 365

Front door locked half the time in the morning, if you're open, then legally open the doors. Service your equipment!! How hard are these concepts?

  • Lazy Boy

Love it! Facility is nice and it's big enough to where you never left waiting to use equipment. The staff is awesome and yeah my gyms dope✌️

  • Paul Patel

Darren Frett was SUPER helpful with getting my form down for squats! Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a personal trainer!

  • Frederick Connors

I usually go early in the morning before 6 am so it's usually not crowded. I also go on off days so that it's not that busy

  • caitlin sutherland

Great place to work out, plenty of equipment and weight options. The staff is super friendly and the gym is always clean.

  • Jeremy Arguijo

One of the best places/ gym I’ve been in very respectful and peaceful. Darren Frett helped me out signing up

  • Jake Martinez

I've been going here religiously for 15 years. It's a great positive community here.

  • Hannah Medrano

Well equipped, clean, never too busy. Wish they had more than one Smith machine.

  • Lora Rzepka

It has been clean, working equipment and has not been hot. Great staff

  • Jonah Schneider

Great GM. Nice gym equipment and wouldn’t rather be anywhere else
