I have been a proud member of Gold's Gym in Alamo Heights for over two wonderful years, and it has been an incredibly positive and enriching experience. The moment I walk through the doors, I am greeted by the friendly smiles of the staff and the warm camaraderie of fellow members. The sense of community here is truly something special. Committing to my health and well-being has become a joyful routine as I make my way to Gold's Gym three times a week. The array of facilities and equipment available never fails to impress me. One of my favorite aspects is the dedicated space for free weights. Lifting those weights has helped me build and tone my muscles and given me a newfound appreciation for the importance of stability and balance in my fitness journey. Speaking of balance, the pull-up assist machine has been a game-changer for me. Pull-ups are undeniably crucial for overall upper body strength, yet many struggle with them, especially when starting out. The pull-up assist machine provides the perfect solution, allowing everyone to gradually build up their strength and achieve those pull-up milestones. It's a small marvel that highlights Gold's Gym's commitment to ensuring every member's success. As I gracefully embrace the passage of time, I've realized that stability is a cornerstone of good health, particularly as we age. The emphasis on balance and control in my workouts has enhanced my physical abilities and contributed to my overall well-being. I firmly believe that as we grow older, our health becomes our most valuable asset, and Gold's Gym is a place that wholeheartedly supports this philosophy. While the equipment is good, the people truly set Gold's Gym in Alamo Heights apart. The genuine connections I've formed with the staff and fellow members have added an immeasurable richness to my fitness journey. Being a regular at the same time has allowed me to forge friendships with those who share my passion for health. We cheer each other on, offer support, and celebrate each milestone, creating a sense of belonging that delights every visit. As someone who continues to participate in soccer after an 54 years actively, I can confidently attest to the transformative power of regular exercise. If the benefits of staying active could be packaged into a pill, it would undoubtedly be the best-selling medicine of all time. Gold's Gym, even with its mix of equipment, has provided me with the ideal blend of resources and community to not only keep up with soccer enthusiasts half my age but to thrive alongside them. In conclusion, Gold's Gym Alamo Heights has been essential to my life, enriching my physical and social well-being in ways I never thought possible. The dedicated staff, the welcoming atmosphere, and the comprehensive facilities all contribute to an environment where health truly is wealth. I am grateful for the friendships I've formed, my progress, and the support I've received on this incredible health journey. Here's to many more years of health, happiness, and success at Gold's Gym!
I used to be a daily regular at this gym, but stopped coming due to mental health reasons. I decided it was time to start going on the regular basis again and honestly, I was looking forward to it! But, the staff is new of course (It's been a couple years since I stopped going), and when I went in, I have never been made to feel so uncomfortable before in my life... The gentlemen at the front counter wouldn't speak verbally to me, when I tried to ask questions about the towel service and if any rules had changed he looked at me and didn't say a word, when I asked which kiosk to scan at he just pointed and rolled his eyes. He never stopped folding towels and other tasks so it felt like I was spending the whole time trying to get his attention Then, when a larger buffer gentlemen who definitely was there a bit more regularly walked in behind me, the man behind the counter suddenly turned all smiles and welcomed him with a loud boisterous "Welcome to Gold's!" I'm small framed, and that's genetics. But making me feel like I don't belong whether it was intentional or unintentional really did do a number to my self esteem. To the point that I haven't gone back since because I don't feel welcome. Even after the uncomfortable experience at the checkin counter, he walked past me multiple times and just glared at me. But yet, he didn't glare at anyone else in the gym? When I went to the locker room to change, he followed me in for unknown reasons. I ended up not changing, grabbing my things, and just leaving. I usually shower so I don't sweat in my car but I would've had to ask the man for a towel and really didn't want to have to approach him again. As I walked out, I heard him say have a good day to four people that walked out ahead of me, but yet, when I walked out, I was just stared at and looked up and down. I felt like I was in gym class in middle school again. And now, I don't want to even try and go to another gym again after years of building my body confidence again. 2-stars, because ignoring the above situation, the facility itself is always spotless, the gym always smells sanitary, and I've never seen a dirty machine ever. They do truly take their cleanliness to another level which is why I love this specific location Overall, Just go to the Quarry location where the people at least don't make you feel less than.
So in the passed I got jerked around by trainers that double booked sessions and a sales guy who signed me up for the works when I really had no clue what I was getting into. It turned out to be a waste of money on top of them pressuring me to continue sessions for $500 however many weeks back then, 3 weeks per every $500? to get me to my goal weight. Unfortunately, at my own fault, asking for a manager I never heard back from, i just threw my hands and wasted money for a minute before canceling. Which at that time was a 60 - or 90-day cancel. Anyways, on my own, i figure out a nutrition plan and home exercises for free and lost over 50 pds. But I've recently decided to come back because it's time to take it further than what I've been doing. Along with weather flucuations getting in the way at times i decided to give this gym another chance. I understand there is new management and new plans that include all, and despite the location being a Silver location, it is now also at a fare price. Considering all the amenities, the pool, equipment, steam, and sauna, showers. It's a great location still. But why I'm giving it a 4 star is because the employees still feel the same. I'm not going to point fingers and just say employees to speak out loud. But there's a couple of not that great employees I've already encountered. I asked if a particular item was sold here and from the front desk, this employee stared at the wall for a few seconds, and sarcastic said, no. I had a personal trainer calling and texting, saying that I was owed a session as a new member and i should reach out when I'm there again. And when I did, they said I'm not there get with the front desk for my schedule. Something I felt could've maybe been done beforehand. It's the same great location but also the same complacent lack of support and communication already with in my first month back again. But aside from that, if you're going in aware of what you want to achieve and don't have to bother with the staff, you're golden.
Literally, shaking as I wrote this. Worst experience randomly going to this gym. Middle of my workout the manager Warren Young runs up to me to get up and demand I take my pic for my profile. "If you're gonna come to my gym." I told him thats fine I wont come, if my bank doesnt require a pic why does my gym, as we walks away. Then comes abruptly back up and says or I have to show my ID every time which i flash in 2 seconds cause its on my phone (which he didnt like) and as he walks away i shake my head and he comes back at me a 3rd time " DON'T GIVE ME ATTITUDE" Like im his child, yelling this at me with lots of other members watching like why is he talk to me like I'm his child. I have to tell him, I told you and at this point, you've come up to me 3 times and YOU'RE HARASSING ME now, so he walks away. Nonetheless Golds Gym definitely needs to figure out with this tyrant, and potential LIABILITY and find someone with actual customer service skills and not an angry, gym coach with too much time on his hands. Been coming to Golds 15+ years, gladly show my ID, no trouble at all but theres infinite and NEW options now avaialble so GO HERE before this one. (Side note: the recepitionist was a super nice and attentive guy)
Just let the manager know that he's had bubble gum buildup in one of the showers for three weeks and showed him a pic. Instead of thanking me for letting him know, he wanted to argue how long the gum had been there (totally missed the point) and seemed to want to stare me down. I actually thought for a second that the GM was actually going to swing at me? Wow! Since he challenged me to post the picture I showed him, I'll grant him that favor! #badattitude Trying to understand where these 4-5 star reviews are coming from?? Perhaps some haven't been to updated gyms in other locations or cities? I'll meet any of those giving a 5 star review there one evening and do a walk through with you! Maybe you've missed the hole in the floor near the back dumbells that been orange taped for who knows how long? Old equipment, staff doesn't do a great job of keeping up locker rooms, really run down. Spin bikes are bad! Asked about any new ones of servicing, was told that the general maintenance guy would "take a look at them", code for nothing will be done. I'm looking for a better experience for my money, but realizing this might sadly be the best out there.
Came on a Saturday morning and even called ahead if the pool was open for “swimming” which i was told yes. I drove 15 minutes only to be told the pool is closed due to a class going on. Even though the back lane was open during the entire class!!! Im sorry but if the older gym members have a problem getting splashed maybe they should stay out of the pool Food for thought. *Updated* Mr Warren, I understand that there is a class schedule. However I called ahead of time and was told the pool would be available for swimming at that time. I also do not agree with the policy and feel that this decision impedes all swimmers trying to squeeze in a workout when they can. It is disappointing that situations like this continue to happen despite being a paying member and trying to be proactive and respectful of class schedules. I ask that you reconsider allowing 1 swimmer during classes as long as the lane remains open, with the common sense courtesy of being mindful of splashing others and limiting sound.
Gold’s Gym on Austin Hwy is almost my second home after me being a member for more than 10 years. This gym is always nice and clean. They changed Front desk staffs many times. Glad they don’t have the grumpy one any more. It is important for members, who may have been tired and stressed out from their work, to see a happy person at front desk when they walk in the gym. The night shift front desk Michael worths two thumbs up . He is always very pleasant to welcome members when they come in and when they leave. He always answers questions professionally. AND he remembers what members want when they walk into the gym. Either 1 hand towels or 1 bath towel, He remembers what you want! By the time you scanned your membership bar code, he already hands to you the towel you want! It is a small thing but it takes effort and care to memorize different members’ needs. Micheal, keep up the good job and you deserve a promotion!
My drama teen (grandson) and I joined Gold's this week and I'm so happy to say he and I are of the same opinion, first impressions mind, that it's an awesome place to go. I joined for the Silver Sneakers programs offered at no charge thru my health insurance, an extra perk. So free is always good. Mr Picky (grandson again) has a monthly responsibility now of $50 plus tax, I reckon. An excellent investment in himself, I would say. The staff are delightful and knowledgeable, the equipment impressive and clean, the pool looks wonderfully inviting and I am anxious to avail myself of the experience of the sauna room and steam room. While we were at the gym this afternoon, there were no crowds and no wait time, as far as I know. So let's get fit, y'all!
Don't listen to the bad reviews about this place... Those are snowflakes who wouldn't feel comfortable in ANY gym. The whole team at AH Golds is outstanding. Warren is a killer GM. Feliz is always getting the job done as AGM. Maribel is my favorite instructor and she kills at any Les Mills format. Front desk is inviting. Club is clean. Equipment works. Air conditioning is cold. Parking is plentiful. Towels provided. I don't know what people expect from Golds, but if you want your hand held through the experience, you're at the wrong gym. People come here to work. This is not Equinox. This isn't even Lifetime. This is a gym for people who are serious about getting healthy and staying fit.
All the staff of this gym have shown impeccable service, respect and have created a friendly/ nonjudgmental environment that i am happy to walk in to and sad to walk out of. I have been going to the golds for more than a year now and have never been disappointed by the remarkable cleanliness of the bathrooms, saunas, equipment and pools. I would like to personally commend Mr. Warren for his outstanding kindness and regards for his gym peers and employees and running a tight ship that is proudly my home gym. I am always feeling welcomed when he is around. Thank you to all and Mr. Warren.
Great gym. Ive been to three golds gyms in the city and this one by far is the best. 1. Restroom and locker room are very clean. 2. Machines are always working if not the turn time is quick. 3. When you walk in you're greeted like family. 4. All employees are saying hello and if you need any help with the machines. 5. But the best thing is the swimming pool. 6. They are constantly keeping up with swimming . 7. They always have clean towels when needed. I recommend it to any one who wants to change their life style. Tom Collins
Overall I love the gym, and the staff are fantastic. Some of the corner cutting is frustrating; I'm only able to go late at night, and every time I go the sauna and/or the steam room have been shut off 30 min - 1 hr early. A few weeks ago towels weren't being handed out and it was only 10 when the gym closes at 11. I know it's close to closing but for someone who can only go to the gym from 9-close it's frustrating. I want to be able to use the facilities I'm paying for if it's within the hours listed online.
Great place to go workout in my experience. The people who work there are friendly and courteous. Many great machines for any kind of lifting. Different different types of free weights, along with multifunction weight machines. Runners can run, walkers can walk, and steppers can step. I haven’t been to any other place besides the Concord when it was originally built, so I have no comparisons to make. But I do like Gold’s especially if you live in or close to the Bubble.
Lovely facility. Both the facility and equipment are always sparkling clean. Even more important is the exceptional staff from the top level management to the people who clean the equipment and facility. I have a Gold’s within a mile of my home but it does not compare to this location so I travel quite a distance further because of the excellent management in whom I have complete confidence. My personal trainer is very good as well. Very knowledgeable and patient.
EXTREMELY POOR MANAGEMENT! I haven’t been to this gym in over a year and I am still being charged a subscription. Granted they require you to cancel in person but for reason? They won’t tell you. I had an unexpected military move and they said they would work it out but NOPE, I tried three times to cancel and they said they would help but they evidently lied about it. I GUESS THEY WANT ME TO BUY A PLANE TICKET JUST TO CANCEL A SUBSCRIPTION
I have lived in San Antonio over 10 years and have gone to a few Gold Gyms in my time here. This Gold Gym is by far the Best One I have been too. The General Manager Warren Young is top notch and his staff is always helpful. The Gym is clean and organized. I recommend you to try it because you won’t be disappointed. Thank You Warrren and staff for your work @ Gold Gym Austin Highway !!
As someone who used to be 415 pounds and extremely self conscious, I have to say not once did I ever feel judged while at this location. The staff has been nothing but nice, helpful and they've all had a great attitude. As the first gym I've joined, I am very happy and don't even mind traveling the 30 miles to get here. If you're looking for a good place to start, I cannot recommend this location enough!
All corporate gyms are pretty much the same in that the equipment, services, classes, and patrons fall within your "typical" gym spectrum; HOWEVER, this Gold's in particular outclasses every other one in San Antonio because of its staff and management. Their team is personable, inclusive, well-trained, and will gladly take the time to listen to their members.
One of the better gym experiences in town, for under $60 per month. The facility is clean and usually well-stocked. Sometimes they can get behind with the towel service (they should hire a few more launderers), but overall a satisfactory experience. The abundance of less expensive options in town helps tame the crowds, too. Indoor pool is decently maintained.
Very clean and organized gym. Gets a little crowded but people are respectful for the most part and dont hog the machines. This location includes a steam room and dry sauna in the locker rooms as well as a indoor lap pool. I haven't gone mid day so unsure then but early mornings and late at night it's been great. Best Golds I've been to.
I enjoy the gym but it’s gone downhill from the past few months. Women’s section constantly has trash left from the previous night. I’ll find used paper towels, old water bottles, or towels left on machines the next morning. Gym needs to enforce the clean up of guests more. Constantly seeing guests not wipe down machines after use.
We moved from the golds gym location in the quarry to the Alamo Heights location and found the facility to be top notch. The manager, Warren, does an outstanding job. Both the gym and the dressing room are always clean and orderly. Super friendly staff and gym members.
Nice clean gym. Tons of amenities. I love the machines here great variety. Super nice staff. This quad machine in particular is one of my favorite types to use. It’s super rare to come across one of these. I’ve only every seen 2 and this is one of them.
lol soap, lotion and other “amenities” are always empty and the moldy shower ceilings really give me that black level member feeling. And random clothing articles always scattered throughout the dirty locker room. Keep up the great work guys.
People who give negative reviews talk about how bad the payments are, but I personally had a walk through with the GM (General Manager) and he explained it thoroughly and easy to understand. You have to end your membership before the 25th
This Gold's Gym is the best gym I've ever been to. They provide everything you need in the shower and dressing area down to blow driers. Do not expect this from other gyms (even Gold's Gyms!). Literally all you need is a change of clothes
If you're going to get a personal trainer, do it here. They're knowledgeable and always working to be even better. Felice, one of the managers, is very helpful. Even if you aren't looking for a personal trainer, the gym is always clean. I
During the pool aerobics class for seniors you should leave a lane open for lap swimmers. The reason given for non lap swimmers was because the "splashing" was too loud; meanwhile the instructor is blasting David Bowie on the boom box and
I have such a wonderful experience at Fold gym bot only is this gym clean. The staff is wonderful. They provide everything for an individual, from soap, mouth wash, shaving creams, blow dryer hair curler wow!! Amazing check it out try it!
Always a great workout with great equipment very clean, easy, friendly atmosphere with Great music very cool. If you like swimming like I do. Look for some Golds Gyms have a very well maintained outdoor pool. Highly recommend it.
Great staff with experience on all equipment and fundamentals to help achieve your goals. Management is attentive to all phases of customer care they greet you coming and ask about your daily experience exiting the facility.
Five Stars for Patrick at the front desk! He’s always quick to great you with a smile, and it’s great to have some positivity before and after my workout! He’s a genuine guy and deserves some kudos!
I've been to 3 different ones, and while this one is the smallest the employees here are the nicest and are very welcoming. They also have the best variety of energy drinks to choose from
They are good and I was happy there, but they made me feel bad when they take extra month after my membership cancellation , I sent them email , but with no positive response …
This place blew my mind on the stuff they provide for people, and the child care area is amazing and they also have TVs in the gym so you can watch your kids play (great idea)
One of my past times is Jim hopping to new locations and this location is pretty cool. The equipment is laid out well in the atmosphere drives you to put in the work.
Ryan and Patrick and Eric are the most professional and encouraging staff. They help to keep me motivated to achieve my goals!!! Thanks for being awesome!!! Torry
Gold gym has friendly staffs, clean equipments, and it's a safe environment. Definitely recommended to this awesome place!
This is my favorite gym in San Antonio. This location is really small but has everything for a good workout.
Not the best, not the worst, guy at the counter had a attitude. But this gym has alot of equipment
