Absolutely disappointed with how the staff/bartenders handles tabs. The bar handles open tabs by holding onto your card until you’re ready to close. I go up ready to close out my tab and they take a long time stating that their “system was updated”. I didn’t mind but once I asked again about my card, they said they have lost it or may have given it to another patron. I didn’t create a scene or made a big fuss but this is incredibly upsetting. They asked for my info and they were very passive about this whole situation. If this is the model of how you handle open tabs, we should expect to receive our cards without any hiccups. We are giving a lot of trust handing over any type of cards over. I enjoyed this place but after that, I will not be coming back.

Yesterday was my first time at this establishment. It had been a long, crazy day to say the least, so my friend and I decided to decompress and get a drink. She recommended the place and I'm so glad she did. The staff are just awesome and friendly and the patio was a perfect spot to sit and hangout at for a couple of hours. They weren't serving food that day, but allowed us to order food to be delivered to the bar. It's a cool little dive bar, where you can go wearing your leggings & tank top and feel right at home. I will definitely be back! *I can't recall the name of this frozen concoction as I rarely drink frozen drinks, but it was so freaking good. Listen to the bartenders when they say something tastes good. They aren't lying!!
The place deserves a 4.7 of 5 and only because it depends on what type of night you're trying to have. Low light and a cool fairly isolated night (not surrounded by a bunch of night life noise outside of the bar) it's a hard 5. Think Lola's depot with more free movement, less hectic, and with food that's usually hitting the right spot after a few. The beer and whiskey selection is mad respectable and the crowd is mixed and makes for great company...but it really depends on what kind of time you're trying to have. Low key? This is the place...overlooking the park and short walk to the museum district and rail. It's a GREAT dive.
Love this bar and the bartenders here. The drinks are delicious and well priced. The mocktails are also so well crafted and taste amazing! They have a pool table and outdoor patio as well as a balcony. There is plenty of seating for groups as well. I've never had the food, but it always smells amazing. My only complaint is the woman's restroom. It is always a mess, and whoever designed it did a terrible job. You hit whoever is washing their hands when you open the door, and it is so narrow that if there is a line, it makes it impossible to get in and out.

A place to relax on a weekday after a long day at work. Having an appetizer with friends and going home full of energy after having good conversations makes me recharge batteries and go home ready to start the next day at work. The bar has pool tables and a DJ upstairs to dance to if you wish. Most of the clientele are people in their 20s who attend the second floor area and enjoy music and dancing. I enjoy more the bar and the terrace where professionals like me enjoy appetizers and good conversations while the traffic slows down at rush hour before going home.
So I was there last night Saturday February 18th and witnessed something I thought was so extra, disturbing and disrespectful. Because of it I will never be back. So at closing time there a small group of people that I had came in contact with earlier that night upstairs very friendly happy group they were just trying to get a memorable photo at closing time and they were literally attacked by the busboy and bartender and out of no where started pushing the female and cussing her out and I make sure to tell everyone I come I contact with not to go to that bar!!!!
So glad we found this hole in the wall Style bar! Great atmosphere, friendly staff and very comfortable to just hang out and have drinks and talk, pool table available. Not too crowded, no problem getting a seat at the bar on a Friday night around 9:00. They have hot dogs that you can order at a window. Very inexpensive beers and lots of local beers. All around 110% good time. Highly recommended. Go out of your way to find this one.

Absolutely horrible service. Bartender was ridiculously rude and staged a racially charged argument with another customer(his buddy) because I DID NOT tipped him. First I always tip, I was a bartender in University. Second I did not get the drink I ordered and when I said that’s not what I wanted, he curse me off and walked off. Now why would I tip you when you were rude to me with my order to begin? If you’re black and love a good pint, please DO NOT visit Grand Prize Bar, it’s just not the place to be.
Drinks are a good price and the bartender was very nice. I forgot her name. The food was great as well and that was a pleasant surprise since I didn't expect much with it being a bar. Kudos to the people cooking the food. Bathrooms were clean as well. I was invited by a good friend and will be back. Oh parking is free

Exterior is completely unassuming. The inside is vibrant with lights and colors and decorations. The bathrooms feel similar to entering a carnival. Parking is somewhat limited, would suggest being dropped off. Downstairs has a regular bar feel. Upstairs is similar to entering a nightclub and is dazzling. The balcony feels similar to nice garden. There is also a backyard with a holiday aesthetic that sets quite a mood. Drinks are well priced and bar staff is very friendly.
Always fun, very diverse, badass DJs, and bartenders are always good and friendly! Games and food are fun and delicious!! Parking can get bust and full quick, but the walk across the park to park isn't bad, so the earlier, the better for parking space. Or, just Uber/Lyft or carpool.

Came here with a friend for a nightcap. It's right across the street from Chelsea Apartment Complex in a residential neighborhood. There is only street parking. The place for sure has dive bar vibes. There is a pool table and a jukebox. It has a large bar that you can sit at but not too many tables. I loved all the lights and decorations. A lot of beer on tap and very great craft cocktails. Southside is an AMAZING gin cocktail. Highly recommend to try.
Cool, hipster bar. Great place to people watch and socialize with all kinds of people! Their selection of drinks is great! Beer on tap, lot of different liquors and my favorite - they have the pimms cup on tap which I highly recommend. There’s a separate kitchen where you can get cheap and delicious tacos late into the night. There’s a pool table, a couple of old school video games, an outdoor deck upstairs and a small balcony area downstairs as well.
We meet here for happy hour occasionally. Their drink prices are moderate, and the atmosphere is friendly and upbeat. The bartenders get busy but do a good job paying attention to their patrons waiting for a drink. The last time I was there, the upstairs was really hot until they turned the air down later in the evening. Not sure if that is normal, but we managed to still hang out up there and avoid a heatstroke.

I've been going here to the upstairs bar every Friday for the past 2 months now and I love it. The community is amazing, the music is bumping and Megan is....honestly the best. She always takes care of me. She knows what I want, how to make it (and boy does she make a mean drink), and she's a really good conversationalist. Not to make this whole post about her but she is the reason I made this my regular Friday night spot. 100/10 would recommend.
This is a great multi-vibe/ experience with the best drink prices I have experienced in montrose. Parking is a bit of a setback because there is not a designated parking lot but that is the only downside to this bar. It has an upstairs, downstairs, and a nicely decorated patio. They serve food, I love their chilli dogs, and it varys by night. The upstairs hosts drag show, edm, and Latin music. Service Industry friendly!!!
This bar is awesome. I could be nit picky about the parking but I'm choosing not to. The service was great. Lots of different beers to choose from and reasonably priced cocktails. They also have seltzers if that's what you're into. A bit warm inside but they an upstairs area that seemed to be cooler and they also have an outside seating option. Also located on the 2nd floor. Had a great time and will definitely go back.
First visit and will definitely be the last. Had high hopes for this place because of their 4.5 Stars. (Must be from all of their locals.) Service was rude. Order was completely wrong and had to demand for the manager just to get our money back. Bar drinks are good but, a little on the pricey side. Leave this place to the local favorites that hang there because it's definitely not for travelers passing thru.
A friend of mine put me onto the place. I came here for the first time the other night and loved the atmosphere. I got a "everyone's welcome" kinda vibe from this place. During my 4 hours there, I noticed people from all walks of life coming into this place. Great spot to grab a few drinks with friends, kickback, and do some people watching. This has definitely become my new favorite hangout spot.
Randomly found this bar online. Had good reviews so decided to give it a try. It was a good crowd, not too packed but busier than normal for a Sunday night. I think one of the bartenders' names was Shane, he was awesome. Very nice, laid back vibes. We got a couple different drinks and all were delicious. Definitely coming back!

Date night is great here. You can have a conversation with your significant other while enjoying the ambiance or reflecting over the week. I suggest coming here for date night for sure. 1st floor they have a pool table and booths to sit at. On the 2nd floor they have wall benches to sit and chat for groups. Overall It’s a great bar to come in and grab a few. The cocktails are tasty as well.
My favorite bar in Houston. Drinks are great, the vibe is great, and the food vendors they have are great too. Specially the hot dog one. They have an upstairs where you can go if you want to dance as they usually have a live dj spinning up there depending on the night. Downstairs is more your typical bar and in the patio is more lowkey. Definitely a place to spend a good 2-3 hours at.
Fun cocktail joint near Rice University! I came here with a friend on a Wednesday night for a few drinks. The cocktails are creative, affordable, and delicious! The bar itself is two stories with limited seating on the first floor. There is also some food available to order as well! There is very limited parking nearby so if you drive, expect to walk a ways to the bar.

Maybe a hipster place but got more of an "all are welcome" vibe than anything else. Impressive beer selection with mostly local options. Cocktails are pricey but done well. Happy hour has several options, all of which are pretty good. Indoor and outdoor space. Across the street from a cute little park. Cool spot. Easy going. Worth stopping by.
Some nights they will ID a nearly 40 yr old at the door and say you are not allowed in without an ID. Most nights, however, they don't have a door person and the bartenders don't card anyone either, even people who are obviously in their 20s. I won't support a hypocritical business.

Chill, welcoming bar! It's a bit hidden in the neighborhood, but once you find it, you'll definitely have a good time. They have some good happy hour deals and a varying foods option. Street parking is available in the neighborhood, and as always, drink responsibly and don't drive home if you're intoxicated – get a ride home.
Stellar neighborhood bar. They are one of the only bars in the museum district, so could get away with mediocrity, but instead hit all the boxes of what makes a great bar.

Really nice place with a lot of food/drink options. The bartenders were all very friendly and enthusiastic with all of the guests, they made us feel welcome and at home I was very impressed! I love the lights in the windows it really complimented the vibe of the bar! I hope to come back for another visit!
An employee spilled half my beer on my body and didn’t apologize, dragged me back onto the premises, and refused to compensateme. The bartenders were also racist when demanding a gratuity for simply opening a 1$ beer. The service was poor and the workers assaulted me and ruined my clothing.
In the top 3 on my bar list. The atmosphere was pretty relaxed and the service was great. They played a good variety of music, it was a little loud for me at the bar but thats on me. I really enjoyed the cocktails and variety of seating environments, has a different vibe in each place.
Really cool 2 story bar. Went on a latin themed night so the music was great. Drinks are actually kind of cheap compared to alot of other bars ive visited. They dont have a parking lot though so you have to find parking on the street but other than that its a really cool place .
I LOVE THIS PLACE. discovered it a few years back and it became a regular spot while I was in town. Returned recently and it’s even better. Like how!? Just go check it out and see for yourself. You won’t regret it. :)

Great bar with a spacious patio and a nice dance floor. It a great place to bring friends and enjoy the night out. Only downside is the limited parking, but the experience here makes the parking hassle worth the wait. The interior is nice and dark with a mix of lighting.
Hipster spot with cool cocktails and great beer options. Old house style bar with 2 floors and a patio. Food available. Has a pool table and juke box. (Been going there since it opened, but sometimes still call it “Ernie’s on Banks” since that was there before, lol.)
Cocktails are good. Made properly. Ambiance is chill and dark. If you are cool this is great place to enjoy drinks. Basics are not going to have fun here. If you are not basic whiskey coke or vodka tonic person definitely come and order real drink. I have spoken.
Great service and chill atmosphere. Large selection of beers and cocktails. The best past of this bar for me is the upstairs terrace: if you smoke you can go upstairs for a cig or just to enjoy some fresh air—if you go after 6pm you can feel a nice breeze.
I first came here for an event they were hosting about 3 years ago, and I've been back ever since. Their hospitality, ambiance, service, and unique drinks keep me coming back. I love their drink options and their shots too! It's fun and laid back here!
The bartenders are super friendly. The joint is that perfect balance between dive-y and classy. You could order a Last Word or a Lonestar. Their spirits selection is on point and the patio is clutch. All around great spot. Can't wait to go back.
This place is a hidden gem.Even though it's in the tenderloin,it's pretty upscale. It's inside a hotel you can't actually see it from the outside, and I had to ask someone inside the hotel if they knew about Benjamin Cooper. But once you're

Beautiful little bar Good sound system for the small area upstairs and I love the balcony. It can get packed upstairs but it's always a good time. Good drink prices too. Little hard to find parking sometimes but thats a given with the area.
Great craft cocktails and prices on all drinks were practical and not outrageous. Joey was very inviting and polite. As a bartender myself I find that extremely important. If your ever in the neighborhood definitely give this place a visit!
Good spot on a Sunday night! The patio was packed but lots of space upstairs. The first floor was busy and had a dj. Bartenders are attentive and they have a lot of variety. I love the decor and murals. There are some areas that are great
Wow. Shiny. Groovy. Spectacular bartending by the indefatigable Megan upstairs every Friday and Saturday night. No bartender has ever dispensed joy in the way that Megan does every single night. An experience and personal touch completely
Good simple bar with no frills. Plenty of beer choices though I think I only saw 3 taps. Everything else is bottles. They've got mixed drinks and wine as well. It's not a very large bar, but it's a good atmosphere. Can be tricky to find

I don't know what "doom tiki" is but I am dying to find out. Great dive bar with good cocktails. Probably the best dive bar closest to Herman Park and the museum district. Relaxed during the day and draws a moderate crowd at night.
Very fun bar, but slightly worried about the structural integrity of the building. There was a noticeable dip on the second level floor. It seems like the building was not rated for the weight of the occupants on the second floor.
This is an excellent bar and always has a crowd. They have great drink specials and it is a generally big place. However, it is very popular and at peak hours can be difficult to get around. i will come again as soon as possible.
The DJ seems bored. He's slow and you can see it all over his face he'd rather be anywhere but here. Drinks were ok. I really wanted to like this place. The lights make it look fun. But it's not. Def not worth the drive out.
The drinks are excellent, and the happy hour specials are very reasonable. The flatbreads are pretty good; the next time, I'll order one with more crunch.Popular adorable energy.I suggest getting there as soon as they open.

Great vibe everytime I come here. It had been a while since my last visit (covid and all) and they've really improved the outdoor back patio. I always try and grab the pool table if it's open and the food here is amazing.

Drinks are good, there’s one ping pong game, deer hunting game, a pool table, and photo booth. It’s a more relaxed setting. They have cute decorative lights display. The food is surprisingly good but expensive.
Love that it’s decked out for Christmas right now. The pear drink, the horchata drink, and the hibiscus one were all great. Beer is superrr affordable here and extensive choices. DJ on Friday night was …
Great 2 story laid back atmosphere, with pool tables and some games. Upstairs has a bar that's open on the weekends and seems like a luau them and a nice upstairs patio.

Brilliant place to get a low-key drink with some friends. The pool table is cool and the space is nicely decorated. They have food served until late at night, although its not the best quality.
hip, unique atmosphere in a charming old house. good drinks. dj wasn't amazing but it could pass as decent, easily ignorable background music. try to grab a spot on the upstairs front porch.
Knives in water is the reason i crawl out to this bar on a monday! Beer selection is phenomenal, literally a drink for EVERYONE can be found here. Bars like this make it so worth going out.
Mediocre bar, but now they have raised their prices on beer so not as good as it used to be plus I saw 2 rats on the patio.... they are friendly neighborhood pets but still
Love the music that was being played. The atmosphere was great. Everyone was dancing and they even played some cumbia oldies

I had a good time here. It's a low-key spot with good drink prices. It's got a bigger interior than you'd think by looking at it and nice lighting. I'd go back
They were spinning cool punk rock records, cool ambiance but the drinks were super weak!! I rarely drink, and I had 3 rum drinks and was barely buzzed.
Great spot for affordable drinks and usually good fun on the dance floor upstairs. Parking can be a bit difficult so Uber the way to go in my opinion.
Cool bar in the area. Great selection of beer and cocktails. Do a good job with social distancing. Christmas lights were a plus when visiting as well!
Great chill bar and the bartenders were pretty nice(this can be hard to come by nowadays). Loved the Christmas vibe and will be back to try the food.
