I went to Hanky Panky two nights ago, and wanted to share my experience, and some constructive feedback. Our group arrived on time and were seated promptly. The ambience was cool, the menus were creative, and our hosts were welcoming and kind. I'll break down our cocktails: Tiger Punch: The clear favorite. Unbelievably complex, well-prepared, and well-executed. Milk punches are all the rage right now and this one is one of the best I've had. Awesome. Gulrot: Between the Sotol and the sage-infused gin, this was fantastically botanical and wild. The first sips felt strange in a good way, and as it warmed up it really opened up. Sleeper hit. Transatlantic Fizz: Takes 15 minutes to make (I imagine for that excellent souffle tower of foam effect), and it's well worth it. Really fun take on a fizz, and the leftover foam at the bottom of the glass was SO delicious. So, an impressive batch of really excellent cocktails. However, the reason I'm writing this review is because of what happened with our other cocktail: the Mojito. Their recipe is based on a Mojito recipe from Simone Caporale at Sips Bar. The fun thing with this recipe is the use of an agua de menta instead of normally-muddled mint. It's a cool touch. However, I think something may have been off with Hanky Panky's recipe. Mojitos prepared correctly are definitely meant to be more rum-forward compared to what you'll get at any old bar, so I wasn't expecting a sweet mint bomb. But the drink we received was devoid of any sour, sweet, or mint flavor. The only detectable flavor was just straight Ron Havana Club 3 over crushed ice. I was very surprised to see it, considering the caliber of the bar, and the quality of the other drinks we had alongside it. I'm a former bartender, and so I understand that sometimes, mistakes happen, so I wanted to make sure that we raised it properly. My friend was put off by the Mojito, and we already had the Transatlantic Fizz on the way, so we just wanted to send the Mojito back, and have it replaced with the Fizz instead. This is only the second time in my life I've ever sent a cocktail back. Our server was very polite about the issue, and offered to have the Mojito fixed for our tastes. As I said before, we were pretty put off by it, so we politely declined, and said that we'd like to send it back instead, with the Transatlantic Fizz as a replacement. We thought that the message was delivered clearly, but there may have been a miscommunication. At the end of our round of drinks, we asked for our check, because we were heading directly to a dinner reservation and our timing was tight. But when the check came, we saw that the Mojito was still on it. We asked about it, and our server left for a bit, but came back, said and they weren't going to remove the Mojito, and once again, politely offered to fix the cocktail to our liking. I reiterated that we had earlier said we wanted to send it back, but we were told that nothing could be done, and not given a great explanation as to why. I would have taken up the offer to fix it, but we were unfortunately running late. The man who came over to process the credit card transaction offered to have us leave no tip, but I ensured we still left 15%, despite the issue. Which brings me to constructive feedback: 1) If it's the policy of the bar to absolutely refuse to accept drinks sent back due to error, that should be clearly stated at the time of refusal. 2) If a guest doesn't like a drink so much that they send it back, I think it would be hospitable to make an effort to figure out what happened with the cocktail, considering that recipe is going to be sent to other people. 3) I have never seen an establishment, especially of this caliber, refuse to take a drink back, when the feedback on the drink is presented constructively. So, just a word of warning, and some recommendations for improvement. I am so sad to have such an amazing cocktail experience tainted by such poor customer service, and I recommend other guests proceed with caution if you end up in a similar situation.

This bar is on a lot of lists so decided to try it out. I fully expected it to be a tourist trap or cheesy so was prepared to get one cocktail and head elsewhere. My wife and I ended up spending 4 hours at the bar. Had made an OpenTable reservation for 7pm Saturday night in September. Yes, the hostess in the taco shop is kinda snooty and it's kind of funny how people jockey to get in. Anyways, 10 minutes after we arrived the hostess led us through the back and seated us at the bar. The bar is dark, small and lively. The bartenders are very friendly and take pride in making their cocktails. The cocktail menu is unlike any I've seen in that the cocktails are very unique. I ended up getting 4 cocktails that night and all were great in that they presented unique flavors (not your typical manhattan, boulevardier, old fashioned, negroni, martini, mojete etc. which i love too), the flavors built on each where each sip was delightful. I got the S.P.Q.R, God Save the Queen, Guelaguetza and something that was kind of like a Manhattan. Don't remember what my wife got but i had a sip of each and they were great too. We also got 3 starters/tapas that were nice. A big bonus, and we were likely just lucky, is that the couple on our left was really fun to talk to and when they left another fun couple took their place. Anyways, if you like different, super well crafted cocktails than try Hanky Panky.

Once you have a sip at Hanky Panky, you'll understand instantly why it's one of the top 50 bars in the world! Hands down some of the best cocktails I've ever had. The flavors are distinct yet not overpowering, and they have many unique cocktails and flavor profiles inspired by cities and cultures from all over the world. If there is one drink I would recommend, it's the Tiger Punch, truly a phenomenal cocktail The entrance is very unassuming, they do an excellent job of being a true speakeasy. Reservations are highly recommended as there could be wait times for over 2 hours if you try to walk in on the same day. Once inside, they have a unique seating arrangement where you may be seated next to other parties in a circular booth. Perhaps not for everyone, but it makes for interesting conversations with both locals and tourists. If you are interested in sitting at the bar the staff will do their best to accommodate you. Each reservation is for about 2 hours, plenty of time to go through their cocktail menu. My party and I had such a great time that we are planning to come back the next day with some friends!

Definitivamente no volvería.

This is in the top 100 bars in the world and wow, what a cool place! It's a speakeasy so part of the charm is finding a location. If you want directions I'll leave it at the end of this review as to not ruin it, I will say it took us a bit of walking around (in circles) and asking locals before finding it. Once you are walked into the speakeasy you enter this red lit room, which is small but perfectly sized. The bar chairs are SUPER comfortable and I'd suggest sitting there vs at the tables. Have a reservation, it can get quite packed. The bartenders are super knowledgeable, Allan and Pollo (nickname) made great drinks for us the whole time, and they gave us great recommendations for other bars in Mexico City. You have to buy some food here because of some weird law, but everything is super cheap so it's not an inconvenience, more like a quirk. The exit is also super cool, you walk through a soda refrigerator. Entrance: on Google maps it's listed as 52 Turin, it's actually across the street around 45 Turin. You'll see a taqueria with 1 huge wooden table. Talk to the person at the counter they lead you through the kitchen to the bar.

I did not enjoy my time at this bar. This was at 7pm on a Friday night and we did not have a reservation, however they still let us in with only a 5 minute wait. Once we got inside, we never even received a table. They sat us on these stools in the corner of the room with no actual table???!! I literally had to hold my cocktail in my hand for 45 mins, just awkwardly sitting on a stool. It was very uncomfortable. In the future, please just remove these “seats”. It’s also right beside the cabinet where the servers were processing payments and putting away glasses every 2 minutes. The drinks tasted good but I had a HORRIBLE experience with the service and atmosphere. We had to ask over three times if we could move to a different table and when they eventually moved us, we had been there for nearly an hour already.

Very sub-par and bizarre customer service experience tonight at Hanky Panky. First old fashion was perfect. Our second one came out downright weird: watery, yellowish color, awful bland taste. An entirely different drink. We brought it up with the staff but got told that one ingredient was missing, that they stood by their drink, and that was it. Never offered to replace it. A minute later, another customer close by got brought a proper old fashion just like the first one! We were dumbfounded. This is a place that charges 250MXN for cocktails only to serve up frat-party worthy concoctions. The front line staff was friendly though, so i suspect just poor management. A real shame, especially for a place of that reputation and potential. Cocktail lovers, keep on going, there are tons of wonderful, worthier bars in CDMX!

The concept of a hidden bar is what drew us to this Iñiguez taqueria. Though we arrived after serving hours, the front for the shop is adorable. When we were called back to enter the bar we were not disappointed! Such a comfortable yet chic hidden gem with swanky decor, great music and good drinks. They have a special drink menu that changes often but are equipped to make any beverage. The drinks are strong!!! Come here to find a great mix of out of towners, locals do not seem to gather here. Mark off your to do list and take all the instagram photos you wish. Bartenders are incredible and service is quick. When you book a reservation, know that all that does is guarantee your entrance. We booked for 9:30 and got inside around 10/10:15. You must wait for some patrons to exit the beer fridge before you can enter. Enjoy!

Nice and cosy speakeasy in an antojitos mexicanos restaurant. The star are the cocktails. It is a fun place where to explore how under-used your taste buds have been all your life. Is this the best bar in Mexico City and on the very top of the world? I don’t know. I know very many good bars. Still, it makes me proud that a place like this is in the center of my city. This is an experience that I would strongly recommend to any visitor to the city. Anyone coming from North Mercia or the EU would love to experience mezcal and tequila through the magic of Hanky Panky bartenders… or indeed any of their signature cocktails celebrating the Top 50 Best Bars in the World. I do love their classics, also. Do not miss this stop!

  • T PET

Over rated and over hyped. $250 pesos a cocktail and not one of them was good and I like to drink!!! Sakura cocktail smelt funny and tasted gross. The other 2 were just ok (drinkable) nothing I would order again also no nice garnishes or pizzaz. Have had beautiful cocktails that tasted great in the city - this is not it. Book well in advance and you will still be squished in a booth with others all night. Food was delicious but would feed a mouse and not cheap. Is popular because aimed at tourists on the gringo trail. Has lost its original charm and the cocktails are truly awful.

Such a cool, nice spot to visit. It is a true speakeasy with hidden entrance and exits. Thank goodness a local on the street was able to point me in the right direction, because the google maps address didnt even take me to the right spot (its across the street in what looks like a taco shop). You definitely needed a reservation when I went on a Tuesday evening. The speakeasy vibe holds true inside with a more lounge-y feel, lower music, and quiet conversation. Was exactly what I needed! The bartenders are too busy to offer pleasant conversation so it may not be the best option for solo travellers. Still good for 1 drink Highly recommend: Naked and Famous

Make a reservation using the OpenTable app. We had one for 2 people for 11pm on a Tuesday. We arrived a few minutes early because we had read the entrance was “disguised” as a taqueria. It was obvious as we approached as nothing else was open. I should the doorman my reservation and he asked us to sit. We were ushered in within 5 mins. We were given seats at the bar which was perfect to watch our bartender “Pollo” work his magic. Great ambience. Drinks were between 180-250 MXP. No issues with getting service. Had time for 4 cocktails each before last call. We were never asked to purchase food like some other reviews mentioned. Highly recommend

  • Chris Bonnett

I didn’t even get to try the drinks…As a solo diner, I was seated with 2 other solo diners and a couple at a table that should really only hold 4 people. After sitting for a few minutes, the 2 solo diners were invited to the bar and the host said he would try and move me as well. He ended up coming back and saying that 4 more people were going to join this tiny table! I left. This took about 10 minutes and during that time I was never offered a drink to order. The menu is way too big and I always prefer to go with the bartender recommendations, but this does not seem like that type of place.

What a fantastic hidden style cocktail bar. We brought in the new year 2022 here and we had a blast with everyone and staff. High quality crafted cocktails. Reservation is definitely recommended as it’s small and extremely busy. They make a fantastic “Martinez” cocktail, including a classic gimlet. If you enjoy fine handcrafted cocktails this place is a must visit. Also be noted that it’s possible you will share a table if necessary as tables are not apart of your actual reservation only being allowed In. Cocktails are worth it! Also AMEX is accepted fyi. Cheers from Texas.

My group hit up a number of well regarded bars in Mexico City and Oaxaca. Hanky Panky was my favorite by a mile. We arrived without a reservation on a weeknight and were seated in around 45min. So I would make a reservation in the future. But the speakeasy "front" serves up cold beer and a great house cocktail so the wait wasn't at all onerous. The drinks were interesting and delicious. Vibe, music, and bartenders were fantastic. I'm pretty sure I accidentally tipped 15 pesos instead of 15%... Sorry!!!

He probado varios cócteles, pero mis recomendaciones serian God save the queen o bees knees.

I was able to make my way here, reservations are advised. We didn’t have any, but we waited maybe 30 minutes on a Tuesday night before we were seated. The decor is great, if you sit next to the exit ( like we did) there’s quite the draft. So please bring a jacket. They’re a step up to watch pit for before you turn to the exit. I’ve seen many people trip including myself. The Indian drink (tigger something) was really good!! I wouldn’t order the food. I also would consider the food, light.

A fun secret entrance leads to a luxurious and sexy bar. Friendly staff and great cocktails. Don’t listed to grumpy Garrett who posted his rant. The music was just right and the bartender flair was a lot of fun to watch. We loved both of our drinks and had great service. We arrived at opening without a reservation on a Thursday and were able to get seated in about 20 mins (they reasonably let the folks in with reservations first). 100% go.

Cocktails are really good, but I didn't like the experience as the place is very small and you need to share the table 8 people. If someone happens to order food, sorry there is no place and you eat it on your lap. It's ok to share but there should be maximum 6 people for a table. The most popular bar of Mexico, they can easily afford to move to a bigger place.

Was excited to finally try this spot. It’s small, but nice inside. Seems a bit overrated for all the hype… cocktails were just okay. Apparently it’s licensed as a restaurant so you have to buy food (head up if you’re coming after a late dinner like us). We also saw a group of guys slip some cash to the door man to get in ahead of everyone else waiting. Overall I think there’s better bars around that don’t require a reservation, bribe, or a long wait.

GREAT bar in CDMX! We snagged a last minute reservation and are so glad that we did! It has a super sexy vibe, the drinks are unique, and the service was fantastic. Our bartender from Russia (forgive me for forgetting his name) was super friendly, fun, and prepared my fiancee and I delicious drinks. He even gave us tips on other cafes to visit in the area. This place was the highlight of my last CDMX trip. I met a colleague here for drinks and while it's a little hard to find, the cocktails did not disappoint and ambiance did not disappoint. Each cocktail is modeled after a different place with the flavors indicative of that place. Our bartender was amazing and the other patrons were incredible as well. New fav bar in CDMX.

Nice little find ( if you know where to look that is) and Cocktails were pretty tasty. We came on a Sunday so only waited for 15mins to be brought inside to the main bar. I would definitely recommend to reserve if you can. Go into the tacqueria at the Google address (yes you are in the right place) when you arrive and enquire about entering to Hanky Panky. They will bring you via the back and exit is via a secret door.

One of the nicest speakeasies we’ve been to so far. It is intro, Santa speakeasy, where if you were just walking, you wouldn’t even realize this place exists Mike was phenomenal and an extremely experienced bartender. Drinks were strong and high-quality. We tried multiple mezcal drinks. He was even kind enough for us to taste different local tequilas. Great spot !

Absolutely loved this place, and can see why it is in the Top 50 Bars in the World. Should definitely be charging more for their cocktails! Cocktails were amazing, and staff were very helpful with the menu. The inside of the bar is very cool. It is difficult to find, but that’s part of the appeal, so best of luck.

My wife and I spent our last night in Mexico City at Hanky Panky and it was absolutely fantastic! We arrived early and they still allowed us to sit down. Mind you our reservation was a bit earlier and by the end of the night the bar was packed. Our bartender was super knowledgeable and even made a drink based on our preferences as a surprise. Definitely worth checking out! Great ambience as well.

We booked a table for 3 people. We waited 30' before going in. We shared a table with 8 people. 2 x 3 and 1 x 2 They told us before. But I didn't imagine the table like a "U" So we're not in front of us. We arrived the first. But they proposed to the other people an other table. We drinked and we left. Bad experience Otherwise, if you can have your own table... It will be a good experience

Oh hanky panky!!! One of the best cocktail bars I’ve ever been to. They had a collab with a chef from Greece and we had all of the drinks and the appetizers. I swear the drinks were so good like their matcha drink had me in matcha heaven lol make sure to make reservations and be ready for a treat :)

I love a good speakeasy & Hanky Panky definitely did not disappoint. The entrance and exit are inconspicuous and so fun to discover. (Don't cheat and try to find a review that explains how to get in, just get there a little earlier and figure it out!) The bar itself was intimate and classy. We thoroughly enjoyed our drinks and food (the ceviche). We just wish we could have tried more!

Tried this place out tonight and it was awesome! It’s a speakeasy so when you arrive it looks like a taco shop but you get walked in through the back. Drinks are delicious! They are crafted very well! Service was great—every employee was so nice! Leaving the bar was cool too—I won’t spoil the surprise. I recommend you check this out when in town.

Love the concept of a speak eazy bar and this one is among one of the best I have been. Drinks were really good and those grilled cheese were delicious. Highly recommend it. You need to reserve the place to get in easily. Fun place to enjoy your evening in Mexico city. Only thing is it's expensive relative to other regular bars. But this bar is featured in 100 best bars in the world.

Excelente bar.

This place is beautiful. The chairs are amazingly comfortable. They play great music - it was mostly disco deep cuts. The list is great but I’m really annoying and usually want things not on a list and they played well to my tastes. The last drink i had was marmalade and mezcal - the oils were so rich in it I thought it might have olive oil in there (in the best way!).

Imcredible place, all of the experience was a 10. Drank the Guelaguetza, Tiger Punch and the S.P.Q.R and they where all amazimg, specially the Guelaguetza and the Tige Punch. Service was awesome, and the bartenders made sone cool tricks. Thenatmosphere was another hit, 10/10

Phenomenal speakeasy with a great energy--good spot for a drink before going out. Cocktails were delicious, bartenders knowledgeable, and a beautiful space with a fun exit. Mind-blowing celery daiquiri. Only issue is we had a 10:15 reservation and didn't get in before 11, and there is not much bench space. I'd recommend coming by yourself or as a pair.

This bar is a hidden gem! The ambiance is undeniably cool, and the entry and exit bring a thrilling touch of mystery. Beyond the decor, the staff truly stands out. They are fun, friendly, and always up for a good time. A must visit and revisit spot for anyone looking for a unique bar experience.

Be careful, the management (Hector) is choosing their own percentage on tips even after you tell them that you are paying the tip cash. Selective deafness. Cocktails were good but it’s little and tight. I don’t know why people even recommend this as an option. Also they give you tap water.

Great experience overall. Came here for an event with italian bartenders and it was really good. Nice place, cool atmosphere, excellent attention and amazing cocktails. Highly recommend to come and enjoy a few cocktails if you are in Mexico City. They have a well deserved place in the list of 100 World's Best Bars.

  • carlos lozano

Despite having made a reservation months ago, our party of four was “seated” at two temporary barstools in the waitstaff station. We left immediately as we couldn’t see standing in the waitstaff area, holding our drinks, water, etc. and trying to enjoy ourselves. What a disappointment.

  • Sai Maddali

Excellent vibes and fun speakeasy. Unique drinks that actually taste good and are not going experimental. The entrance looks like a random taqueria with a chalk board and a fridge filled with dos Equis. The Oslo drink with carrot juice is 10/10

Indispensable reservacion y momentos agradables asegurados.

  • Alisa Karasik

Lively vibrant speak-easy bar #12 in world’s top 50 bars list. They asked us to order food as they supposedly don’t have the license to serve only drinks. Menu is wide, cocktails are nice, the waiting time on Thursday evening for two of us was over hour and a half

  • Jonathan Tierrablanca

Hands down one of my favorite bars here in Mexico City. First time I tried it was last year in September and that experience left me wanting to come back. Great drinks, amazing vibes and attentiveness to their guests is a standard every bar should aim to achieve.

Well decorated interior, decent tasting cocktails however the price is solely based on the hype of the “speak-easy” instead of the craftsmanship of the drink per se. All the drinks were good but there was nothing mind blowing. Overall a good one time experience.
