  • Great Beer Now

There is no shortage in the greater Houston area of places to eat and drink. When I’m looking for a place to drink, I usually go for those that not only offer a good selection of beer, but also that have something unique to offer, since there are so many places from which to choose. One establishment that I have visited over and over and still come back to is Kirby Ice House Memorial. This is one of a few different Kirby Ice House locations and with its west Houston location, it is also the one that is closest to my house. It’s a large place with both indoor and outdoor sections. There is a substantial selection of beer on tap and a full bar to mix and create any drink of your choosing. There is ample free parking, right across the street in the large parking lot. You can bring your dog, too. But please note that no one under 21 is admitted. I learned about the latter rule the hard way one day when I brought my teenagers along, only to learn that they could not be admitted any time of day. I stated above that, with so many options for food and drink in Houston, an establishment needs something to set it apart. Kirby Ice House Memorial has several things that make it stand out, and the most noticeable is the bar. They have the longest bar in Texas and it’s lined from end to end with bar seating. This is reason enough to pay a visit, just to see the lengthy bar. Another thing I love is the varied seating options. There are picnic tables outside, high top tables inside, and low tables to go with the abundance of bar stools. And the bar stools are comfortable, too, with backs to provide full seating support. Kirby Ice House Memorial doesn’t serve food of its own, but it is normal to find food trucks on site. If you don’t want to take any chances with food, my advice is to show up already full of food and ready for refreshment. Oh, and if you have a larger group of people and want to make sure there is a place for you all to sit on the inside, you can contact ahead of time and reserve a table, if you like. It’s cool when you can find a bar that goes above and beyond. Kirby Ice House memorial is that bar. It’s big, it’s roomy, there is plenty of parking, and they have the ability to make just about any drink you can imagine. It can get loud inside, so it’s not a good choice if you want a quiet evening with deep one- on- one conversation with your significant other. But if you want a place with lots of drink and beer selections, sports viewing, and outdoors, Kirby Ice House Memorial is the place to be.

They do not serve their own food- their are food trucks that rotate on their property that you serve yourself! LOTS of beer on draft- only 1 Hefeweizen. Dog friendly!! Great selection of TV's mounted high to keep an eye on your favorite team!! I was at a table and arrived late to my party that was already seated- went to the bar to get my own drink & the bartender told me I couldn't add to the tab & the waitress would have to get it for me- I told her I'd waited 20mins already & the bartender shrugged her shoulders! When I go places alone, I sit at the bar & I don't go places if I can't tip well- she'll never get a tip from me- that was unforgivable reaction- she could have asked WHO my table server was or reacted in a way that expressed sympathy instead of shrugging, just SO disrespectful.

Huge place where it feels like no matter how busy it appears there is always room for more people. Large area with AC and just as large area outside without! In this Texas heat everyone was inside or on the covered patio with large fans blowing! Waitress was attentive and friendly. Beer selection was huge and serves quickly. Only downside is that the food truck selection was limited but that's not something Kirby's controls. Another day it's a different food truck and a different experience.

While I’ve visited the Alabama location many times this was the first time at the Memorial location. It was a Tuesday and not very busy but not dead. Gigantic indoor space and ample parking. Service is great and the bar is huge! While the bar doesn’t serve doors, Torchy’s and Mia’s are right across the street, plus there is a food truck on-site. Will be back on weekend soon.

We didn't have any food so I can't comment on that. Drinks/beers are a tad pricey but it's a really fun atmosphere! Too hot in the summer obviously for the outside seating but there is plenty of it for cooler months. They do have a large open "indoor" space that does stay nicely cooled. Lots of TV's for sports inside and out. Our server was pretty attentive but not a lot of personality. I'll go back again to watch some game but won't be outside until it's cooler.

Great spot for sport games, Huge outdoor screen and large tvs almost everywhere you look. They have that side of things nailed. I have been here maybe 5 times. Each time I swear I'll try to find another spot. The main issue is the bar grossly over charges me. It happens so frequently that I feel the pattern must originate higher up than just a few bar tenders. My last charge was 190 for 5 house margaritas, 4 beers and 5 shots, it was a group. That's 13.50 drink? Anyway too bad I did like it there but to save a hundred bucks per game I'll take my group somewhere else.

Wonderful space to hold a small or large gathering. Celebrated my 70th birthday along with 80 guests. Jamie, one of the managers and Ashleigh our waitress where most accommodating. We were able to bring in all of our food and several guests raved on the quality of the food trucks as well. The variety of seating arrangements made for comfortable areas to mix and mingle. Friends are planning on returning in the next couple of weeks. Highly recommend the Kirby Icehouse Memorial.

Only gave this place 3 stars because of our waitress. She was awesome. I don’t know if was the manager but he made my pregnant wife throw her water out because it didn’t come from his place. She offered to open it to show him its water and he refused and made her throw it out saying no outside drinks. WATER? Really. He was a chubby guy. I know that’s not much of description but that’s all I can remember.

Nice large bar with a good variety of drinks, wines, and beers. They have a big covered patio with fans and a picnic area with Astro turf. Bring your well behaved dogs on leashes and they can hang out with you on the turf or the patio. The Ice House doesn't serve food but they have food trucks out by the picnic area. It's a great spot to watch any sports game as they have multiple TVs and a huge screen with good quality projector.

  • Taylor Nobles

The female bartenders did not want to serve us. Took about 10 minutes just to get some service, & once we did, she had an obvious attitude. Did not even garnish my drink. Looked around & noticed we were the only African Americans at the bar. It was pretty apparent that we were being discriminated against. Had the same issue at the Upper Kirby location. Do better!!

I can’t believe I’ve never seen this place before! Stumbled upon it on our way from Katy to downtown. They have one of the best patios I’ve ever seen, anywhere! Lots of tables indoor and out, plenty of games to play on the patio and a giant bar with even old-fashioned and Paloma‘s on tap, which sounds like a bad idea, but they were very tasty! Definitely want to come back here with a big group of friends!

Plenty of space at this location to kick back and have some drinks. Thursday Steak Night is always a must!! Staff if super friendly every time, without fail. It does get pretty busy and parking can be challenging but nothing serious. Great atmosphere for football and Astros games. They allow dogs which is definitely the best part

Cocky and obnoxious people working the door and losing the place customers. First stop of the night and turned down at the door because of “attitude”. Place was empty and it doesn’t help when your staff kicks out customers because they feel like it. Shame I won’t be ever going back and or recommending the place to anyone I know.

Terrible service. Blonde female bartender was blatantly ignoring my group. We were the only women at the bar. She went to every single male around us, and when she was close to us we were trying to get her attention and she said “don’t yell at me”. Tried to speak with the manager but he also ignored us.

Huge spot with a great selection of whiskeys at reasonable prices. That said they are really a taproom with tons of beers on tap. Don’t expect many or really any interesting craft cocktails. And they don’t have proper whiskey glasses (Glencairn) for serving all that great whiskey neat. Otherwise they do have pool tables and volleyball which is pretty cool.

HUGE BAR! Great place for a large party. Drinks are reasonably priced and the bar staff is friendly. TV’s out the wazoo and the outdoor area has a humongous screen. This is an awesome place for drinks! They don’t serve food, which is a downer. They could of at least serve wings and nachos. There is a food truck on premise though. I’ll be going again soon.

It's very happening place. Maybe to fast pace for me. Staff is always rushing. Makes you feel as customer that your burden to them. When I tried to ask a question the staff member was already walking away. Will not return to big, too busy, bad customer service nit worth the cost.

First time visiting. It was a Friday. Nice open venue with plenty of seating. Great place for large groups. The service by Ashil at our table for drinks was great. The music was not extremely loud which allowed us to hold conversations without having to yell. Can't wait to go back and try the food from the food truck. More

It's not bad. I've been there several times over the years. Service at the bar ok. Sitting inside away from the bar I think someone checked in every 15-20mins. Never ate there so can't comment on the food. I will say it's pet friendly outside and seems like a chill hangout spot

One of the best bars I’ve been to. The coconut lime mojito and kirby frozen tea are to die for. Atmosphere is immaculate. Bartenders are very friendly. Cool place to hang out at. Looking for a lit place to hang out at with your friends? This is the place

There are at least two food trucks available for simple food. If there is a Texas team playing, count on the service being a bit slow. The atmosphere is great. You can bring your dog on a lease, really pet friendly. Great sports bar over all.

Bring your own food. Beer was a little pricey for an ice house but makes up for it with the clean tables and bathrooms. They could provide some paper towels in the restroom though. No children. Lots of parking. I don't make enough money to be a regular customer here.

The gessner location has been wonderful until of late…. Management would not put on the audio for a Primetime Monday night football game. This is not the first time this has happened. I know we can’t be happy all the time but for a prime time Monday night football game…. Cmon Man!!! …

  • Lauri D. Bridgen

This bar is truly beautiful! Great service, nostalgic photos hang throughout, rotating food truck and very spacious. There’s an open yet air conditioned area, a completely covered area with fans, a semi covered area and a full sunshine area. Someone really thought this place through. Very impressive!

  • Gina McCann

Always the best patio around. Plenty of large tvs to watch any sport from anywhere, inside and out. Dog friendly so the astroturf is great. Food is available by on premises food trucks. I love that you never feel crowded and always able meet new people. Also a great variety of games available.

  • Angela Teo

Has a nice environment for causal hang outs. Drinks are priced reasonably, the cocktails are great and good quality. The only thing to keep in mind is that you might have to wait to get one of the servers attention since they are always busy.

A very spacious establishment with plenty of parking across the street. Plenty of indoor seating. Free shuffleboard setup, and some arcade games like basketball nets. Only downside is that drinks are pretty expensive compared to local bars

Horrible service! A guy name Anthony who thinks he’s a manager, kicked me out for no reason. In fact he needs to be terminated. Don’t care what made up short he wants to give you. Pour customer service and has no manners. He’s horrible.

Thursday has Texas local drink specials, and the patio is expanded there's tons of seating and large parking lot across the street. Nice spot to chill! Update-still a great place to hang out! The food truck was good (may be useful

Great spot to watch any game. Lacking in the food area though (even with the food trucks.. they need to allocate multiple slots for them). Many many TVs.
