Kite Hill is named after the hawk, not the Kite flown. It’s not the best for kite flying because of the hill’s conflux wind. Has a great view of downtown SF and Castro’s Rainbow Flag looking right down Market Street. Apparently in the 1860’s Market Street at Stanton Street was named Eagle Street and Stanton Street went around the hill and was what is now Corwin Street. See brick manhole at the chert rock north side. In the past, people would dump trash here, even one car. Gardening uncovers many artifacts. Watch out for glass shards. The spring/summer Raphanus Sativus means fast apearing sowed (an edible garden radish gone wild) has blue fading to white flowers and was a stunning waist high blanket two years ago. Other flowers are pink ladies, iris, California poppy, Himalayan blackberry, Bermuda Buttercup oxalis, fennel. The SF Management Plan 6.13 also lists mallow and plantain. Used to see Miner’s Lettuce. I see that Kite Hill is full of edible plants. My husband and I also saw from Kite Hill a fireball just as our disappointed eyes looked upward one more time to chance see a falling star. The large fireball had a glittering rainbow tail.
Small little park squeezed in between portola street and the houses in upper castro borderline Noe Valley. Its basically above the castro and below twin peaks on the route that leads to haight Ashbury. Views Views Views its what kite hill has got. As I stated its very small just a hill maybe acre and a half overlooking the castro and market street with downtown and the bay in the background. It has one or two trails and a few this is the life benches that were seemingly placed perfectly for viewing purposes. Dogs are aloud i think they are supposed to be leashed but if well behaved its not a problem. Parking consists of a cul-de-sac with 4-5 spots where the end is (also park entrance) as well as street parking along the back of the park down a hill and on the street that runs along its edge. There is a small path that runs from the edge of the street up the hill when you come up over the top you see the view A+. Its also a great place to fly a kite very windy hill top 1 tree no in air hazards to contend with. Seems to be high on the list for people smoking Js and Blunts if your gonna partake id roll before hand as it is very windy.
I went for a Scoot ride last night with no clear destination. I wanted to do some long exposure photography, but within the past week I had already been to the top of Potrero, Bernal, Diamond (billy goat hill), and the 22nd st Jungle Stairs in Noe... I kind of felt like I was running out of options. So I end up winding through Twin Peak’s neighborhood streets until, suddenly, I was nearing a dead end. As I approached, I heard a voice singing, “you woul-not be-lieve your eyes__ if ten mill-ion fire-flies__ lit-up the-world as-I fell_as-leep..” The way Kite Hill sits between Twin Peaks (& the houses surrounding it) makes you feel like you’re inside of a Macro or Tilt-Shift camera lens, or rather inside of a trippy snow globe. I’ll definitely be going back in the daytime next.
San Francisco has a number of small, but really interesting and fun to check out parks. Kite Hill, as the name suggests, is a somewhat windy outcropping, with a fairly steep slope, and winding trails throughout. Don’t expect to be able to play a game of football, or frisbee though, as either the wind or the incline (or both) will complicate your game. Really good for dogs and viewing the fast-moving cloud layer as it moves around the hilly terrain. Not a bad place for photography, and quite compatible with small drones, and of course, kites.
Been going here since I was a kid. My friend filmed a movie here too when we were in high school (SOTA), and I wish the grass was still as green as it was back then..but that was a little over 10ish years ago. The place looks the same more or less and not much has changed. It's a yyn*&&hmu plu4ace people like to walk their dogs but beware that most of dogs are off leash. It's a great place to come pretty much anytime of day. It can be a nice romantic place to cozy up on theg benches that are in the middle of the hill
Been coming here all my life. The view is much better than Twin Peaks. Proper name is Solari Hill named after a farmer who's land had such sweet grass that the priests at Mission Dolores had the help bring their cows there to graze. Sadly, people who know nothing of the history of San Francisco had the name changed to the generic "Kite Hill". Tip: don't try to fly kites there as the wind will destroy them under an hour. Take it from an ex-kid who knows.
Kite Hill is a real hidden gem and one of the best hillside parks in SF. It’s a great place for dog walking, trail climbing and taking in great views of the city and surrounding hills. The park is well worth visiting anytime but especially in winter and spring, where the rains bring brilliant green grass and a profusion of wildflowers including California poppies.
Beautiful views of the city and quite a relaxing place to go chill. Whether you go alone or have people accompanying you, both are equally enjoyable. Depending on the day and time it can be busy so parking may be limited. It's nice to relax, get some piece of mind, or just take in the city from another wonderful view...
Love this spot! You get a beautiful view of the city, while being a bit separate from the busyness. There is a huge flower meadow there too, we brought a picnic blanket and sat right on the edge of the flowers to have a view of the meadow+city behind. Suggestion: make sure to pack layers! It was windy and chilly!
Beautiful place with probably the best views of any public park in San Francisco. This place doesn't paved paths, but there are some benches. If you look at the hill itself, it's not much, but if you look around, you'll see so much. I highly recommend visiting this place. It's never crowded.
Cute, hilly, windy open space with great views of downtown. There are just a couple of rough benches for sitting, but there is a big eucalyptus log that's fun to clamber on. Not necessarily worth a detour, but a great place to visit if you are in the neighborhood.
Popular place to walk your dog with sweeping views of the city. It’s mostly dirt with a few trees. It tends to get windy so come prepared and perhaps bring a kite to fly while you enjoy the views. More benches and trees would be nice.
Bit hard to find the entrace, and the climb is a bit steep, but the view is awesome, and it's more approachable than Twin Peaks or Corona Heights. Recommend if you don't want the drive to Twin Peaks or the hike to Corona Heights
Nice mini park with a beautiful scenic view of downtown SF. Some natural logs and benches to stand or sit on and enjoy the view. Mostly families and mini picnic dates so come by for a quick but nice view of the city
One of the most spectacular views of the city. Beautiful place to take your dog or to just sit down on the bench and read a book. It's a really steep climb on one side, but on the other it's just an easy walk.
Kite Hill is all about the views. This is a small park with a cute and quiet upper market neighborhood surrounding it. Parking is easy on Corwin Street, which makes for a pretty flat path to the best views.
I was impressed by the variety of this relatively small place: meadow, rocky outcropping, shaded paths, old houses. Tip: bring a windbreaker: not for nothing is this place named Kite Hill.
The park at Kite Hill affords commanding views of downtown SF. It's also a great place for peeps and pets to m̶e̶e̶t̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶s̶n̶i̶f̶f̶ hang out from a safe social distance.
I love kite hill! The views are beautiful & it's a great place to bring your dog for a walk. I live only a few blocks away so it is one of my favorite parks to go to.
A great view of downtown San Francisco, generally not too crowded, and it has great hiking trails around. Only downside is it can get a tad windy a lot of the time.
This is a good park for a view of the city. Unfortunately, doesn’t get much sunlight later in the afternoon because it is in Twin Peaks’ shadow.
Love love Love! Amazing views of the city and accidentally witnessed a strangers’ cute surprise proposal while dog walkers stopped to watch.
Surprising little park niched into a little neighborhood, seriously nice views of the city. can be windy at times ! (good for kites indeed)
It really is perfect for kit flying! It's veeery windy and has a beautiful view of the city. Small bit of park, but beautiful nonetheless.
Incredible views! Generally one of the quieter scenic vistas. Excellent dog watching as well - pet a cloud last time I was there - 11/10.
Un sitio para pasar un rato sentado sobre el césped y vislumbrando las vistas de la ciudad a tus pies en un sitio no muy concurrido.
Little hill with amazing views of downtown. But you must like dogs. It's a favorite spot for people to walk their dog and hung out.
Live in Noe Valley? Want to get a beautiful view of the city? Don't want to go all the way to Twin Peaks? Kite Hill is the place
Amazing view with a few benches so you can settle in and enjoy it
Dog-friendliness
Plenty of neighborhood dogs to meet
This is a nice open space with great views of downtown San Francisco. It is dog and kid friendly, but no play equipment
some of the best views of the city. Can be chilly and windy. So best bet is to grab a friend and go on a warm sf night
A small grassy spot with beautiful views over the city. Pro tip: Grab a coffee from Neighbor's Corner beforehand.
At the time of posting this review tourists still haven't found and ruined this amazing hidden hill in SF yet :)
Beautiful, understated, small park with gorgeous views. Bring a windbreaker or jacket along.. It gets windy!!
Quiet park tucked away from the hustle of the Castro with beautiful views of the city. Great for dogs too!
It is a little secret park with breath taking views of the Castro district and downtown.
Very nice views of the city. It's very much an open space. Very little grass and trees.
Great place to go during shelter at home. Plenty of space to keep distance from others.
Small steep park with a few dirt walking trails. Good for locals to get some exercise.
Been burnin Ganja here since the mid 90s... Great Place to take it easy and Meditate.
Unique views and very little trash strewn about as you go higher up the hillside.
I took the pup on a city hike today. We found ourselves here and took a picture.
Beautiful place to watch the sunset. Great views of the city over the Castro.
Beautiful park hidden away in the Castro, offering great views of the city!
One of the "10" Best Hills of SF. Worth checking out on way to Twin Peaks.
Great views and places to sit and take a breather in this tiny hill-park.
Great views of the city from a relatively easily accessible vista point!
Nice little park with great view of downtown and puppies running around.
Great views. A small park in the Castro and named for its windy gusts.
Panoramica fantastica su S. Francisco quattro passi da Castro …
Beautiful views after sunset. Be ready for wind. Dogs love it.
One of the most underrated & chill scenic points in the city
An oasis of bathrooms and promenaders in the asphalt jungle.
저녁에 야경보러 갔었고 좋은 장소인데 올라가다보면 길이 그렇게 정비된 곳이 아니라 편한 신발 신고 가시길..
