It was a very fantastic Chinese supermarket. You can find lots of things but Of course, most of the food in this supermarket is based on Chinese tastes. In the store, you can find all kinds of food and seafood materials. It also has a butcher section where you can find all kinds of meat. The butcher section has a very interesting and beautiful traditional Chinese design that I really liked. There are problems in the supermarket such as parts of it are not clean and there is a lot of feces smell. All products are prepared in the Chinese language and many of the labels are not translated into English. Also, at the entrance of the store, they ask you to put a backpack or a bag in the closet, of course, the behavior of the supermarket staff is very polite and pleasant. It would be appreciated to follow me to discover beautiful Calgary and Canada together and let me know your valuable comments about my idea and photos.
The only reason they might still deserve a one-star review is for their competitive prices compared to T&T and better assortment in certain chilled food categories. Unfortunately, their standard of operations is almost non-existent. Meat department is right across from Chinese funeral supplies section. Store planning is itself a failure. The meat staff lacks basic customer service skills and behave rudely as if they are doing you a huge favor serving you. When you are ready to make a purchase payment, you will quickly find out they only accept cash. I get you try to save money from being paid to card providers but it's a shady practice and is bound to be involved in tax evasion.
I used to shop here but there are other markets closer to my home that are newer, carry the same products and have better service. The only reason I still shopped here on occasion was to buy Bee & Flower soaps. However they stopped selling them some time ago and whenever I ask if they'll ever restock I just I just get an "I don't know!" Therefore, I have no reason to ever return to this place because there are so many other options. I also noticed that some of the reviews were for the restaurant or the bakery which are entirely separate businesses so don't be confused by the ratings. While the bakery and restaurant are great this market is average at best.
Terrible service. A staff stopped me and asked if I have paid the items right after the checkout . I told her ,of course, you can check with the cashier who just serviced me fee seconds ago,3 meters away technically! Then she asked to show her the receipt. Even after she got the receipt, and she kept talking to me like I did something wrong. She said “you know you’re supposed to keep the receipt well as you shopping in Costco “. She didn’t even bother to say “please” to customer. Rude staff won’t stop any real shoplifter but hurt business. Even the timestamp of the receipt is not correct, one hour difference.
We actually went to Sun's BBQ which was great but did shop at the grocery thereafter. It's a reasonably stocked Asian grocery that has a lot of products you can't get in a conventional grocery store. I did notice that they've changed the brand of Kim Chi that they stocked, I'm sure that the new one will be just fine but the brand they used to carry can still be purchased at CostCo and really why not go to a Korean grocery for Kim Chi instead of a general Asian grocery.
Lambda Asian supermarket is the first groceries store that me and my husband shop at. I think there one of the oldest in Calgary, it's a medium size store and not as big as t and t or the other Asian supermarket in the NE. The store almost have everything but unfortunately it's very old and kind of run down and the price is higher than the stores in the NE. The one good things is the location, right on centre Street. Also they have quite small parking space so beware.
Lamda is an Asian grocery store, typical one your basic Chinese essential are found here. Im not fun of this place because of the upkeep. It looks so dirty and so old. Like the lights are burnt out, then the snell from the butcher shop! Oii. I hold my breathe when I get there. Can't stand the smell, since it's indoors the smell is just too strong. If you need some vegies or just a quick run...its good to get your missing ingredients. But this is just my opinion.
Smaller size Asian grocery store, but have a variety of products from Southeast Asian. I usually will be able to find food that I can't find at the larger grocery store here. They also have a Chinese restaurant at the front of the store if you're hungry. Also have meat and fish section with plenty of choices. Overall I recommend Lambda if you live near the city centre and are looking for a good Asian grocery store.
Nice little Chinese grocery store. It also carry some Japanese grocery. Careful to check some Chinese snack if on sales. Most of it are expired. Inside store, there is a fresh fish/seafood and meat counter. Both I believe is individual own. The fish/seafood counter - you could find some stuff for your hotpot and ready to go. Meat counter - lot variety and good price. Very nice owner.
I went there to buy some pork belly. When the butcher saw me he ignored me and he continue to speak Cantonese with other coworkers like I am invisible. And he continued to talk and laugh probably at me. So rude and so shady! He finally served me. He gave me the worst piece of pork belly ever with a lot of fat. I won’t go there anymore. I don’t recommend that store
Extremely rude staff. Do not go here for anything. I tried buying food at 6:40 PM 6:40 PM and was told that they close in 5 minutes even though it says 7 PM on their store front. Now I have to drive a 1/2 hour to get the food that I need. Not a service oriented business. Avoid at all costs. I do not support businesses like this And neither should you.
If you don't know what you're looking for, staff and butchers alike are very helpful. This place isn't for the faint of hearts. What you will find is one of the more authentic shops / supermarket in the city. If a good indicator of an Asian store is a none Asian is hard to find in the spot - then you got a place to be! This is the place to be.
The market is great for purchasing Asian foods at great prices. The restaurant however is my favourite Chinese restaurant in YyC. I have been there six or seven times and it has been good every time. There's a reason why most of the people in the restaurant are Asian they know the food is good! Service is usually quick and efficient also.
Terrible store,I was discriminated by the staff there,a rude lady required me to take off my with a very arrogant and rude attitude, she scolded me to take off my bag,and everyone in the market carrying their own bag, they threat their customers like thief,I must complain, let's see those cowards would scold me or not,if I were white person
I consider this place to be a bit of a hidden gem. It doesn't look clean and fancy as many of the newer markets, but prices can be quite reasonable, and there's decent (independent) seafood , meat and bakery businesses attached to it. It's one of the best places for reasonably priced pork in the city.
We always buy meat from the meat store located to the right of the store. (Inside) They have freshly frozen thin sliced beef we buy to use in our salad rolls, hot pot, and stir fry. They also have thinly sliced pork as well. One tray can feed about 4 people. Reliable meat store.
Good vegetarian options with exotic plants I’ve never seen before, unfortunately the store is quite old and smaller than I expected. I wish it was a little bigger with more veggies options but this is the closest Asian grocery to my house so I do with it what they have in stock.
We used to shop regularly here. However, the quality of perishable products in the past year has been disappointing. In particular, we have been repeatedly finding mold on the noodles and mushrooms, even though they have not expired. I would question storage practices.
Has all the tasty Asian food you might like. Rude staff in this store to warn you. Parking is bad because customers of Tops Asian market are parking in their lot to not pay for parking. These stores need to buy the pay lot so their customers have more parking.
Sun' BBQ restaurant. Easy to find free parking in the evening, not so during lunch hours. Good food and good price as the portions are huge. It is best to dine as a group so that you can share different dishes. Average cost is about $80 for 4, including tip.
This place needs some renovation. Doesn't look clean at all. My folks like to shop at their meat department. They said it's good quality and price in comparison to other grocery store. But produce and frozen section wasn't fresh at all.
It’s fairly old Asian supermarket that offers a wide range of Asian products. The place is clean enough and the aisles are fairly organized. I came here during covid and they appear to have proper covid safety protocols in place.
Very fresh products and a wide selection of Asian snacks. Good deals on food and they give you a 10% discount on your next purchase if you spend a certain amount of money (I think like $50 spent but I'm not sure)
This place reminds Asians of home. I'm from India and even though it's not bright and beautiful, it is a very useful store. You will find unique ingredients here, and the meat is good as well.
Like the meat store there. Grocery part is ok. Produce is good. Bakery is nice. Bought some Chinese buns there and the price is high but understand the living cost is high too
A good place to shop Singaporean, Malaysian, Indonesian and Chinese stuff. Fresh sea food, variety of vegetables and other options. Overall a good experience.
Little Asian store by center street with a restaurant built in. Good options from east Asia. I recommend fro grocery shopping here for specific veggies.
Lots of authenticate Asia foods and supermarkets and buns. Worth the visit for real. Reminds me of all of my child hood. Now my kids love it.
very good supermarket every time if you cost $30 plus it will give you %10 off ,and the service very good
Great produce, meat and seafood. There's also a bakery, restaurant and bubble tea in same building.
Love their freshly baked bread. Everytime we visit Calgary, we always come here to buy some breads!
RBC told me there was an atm available after hours. Couldn't find it, store seems cool though
Shop and grocery here eat near by is fun community. Make sure all expired day before you buy.
Has all your basics. Make sure to stop by the bakery!
Way too over priced. Food is not that great anyhow.
