I despise this lion market . They are really racist. I walked in with 2 of my friends, and we wanted to purchase chips and soda for a party we were going to. We brought our backpacks so we can carry all the stuff because the party was at my friends cousins house and also we came right after school so that's another reason why we had our back packs. But once we came in we got the nastiest looks by all the staff. And when we were heading to the chips section of the store, the lady that was "gaurding" the entrance, came to us and yelled at us and told us to put our bags under a cabinet. But that's not the worst part. The worst part is another person came in with a bag and she did not say anything and me and my friends were angry. We called my friends cousin to see what kind of chips he wanted us to bring and soda..and then the same lady was following us around and passed by us a total of 8 times..then at the last time she stayed near us and she was telling us to get out of store because we were not buying anything.. me and my friends were outraged that we couldn't buy anything in the end. If i could rate it a 0 stars i would.

I am not a big fan of this store. Store employees are extremely rude to non-Viet customers. Believe me, everyone should avoid giving them any business. They are NOT customer oriented. If you are non-Viet customers, they will handle you like a pile of dirt. Talking to management is next to impossible. Management are always not available, and yet I have noticed they always chatting with each other. I guess it is because I am not a Viet customer. I would NEVER make any purchase there. I go maybe once a month and try to not buy so much so they don't earn much money from me at least. I only get the absolutely necessary items and try make a quick in and out. BTW, there is a brand new Ranch 99 scheduled to open up inside Westfield Oakridge mall (where Billy Beez used to be) in 2021. I can't wait and hope it will take all the business away from this Lion store.

My preferred choice for Asian groceries in San Jose is Lion Supermarket. Despite the closer proximity of a 99 Ranch at Oakridge mall, Lion offers better affordability and a more extensive range of Chinese and Vietnamese ingredients, including items like frozen minced lemongrass. I’m not quite sure why 99 Ranch doesn’t even offer the fresh lemongrass stalks when Whole Foods offers the staple produce. Moreover, Lion boasts a larger selection of kitchenware items and ramen noodles. While there may be cheaper Asian markets in SJ, they often fall short in terms of the freshness and assortment of their produce. Unfortunately, the three stars is because of the lingering seafood smell and lack of interior appeal. However, service is always fast and efficient even on busy weekends.

This place is hopping good. And, is what I had hoped 99 Ranch would be, but, isn't. There are 2 aisles with noodles and noodle type products. 1 aisle for spicy-spiciness condiments! And, they will fresh fry your pick of fish. A huge selection of fresh veggies from the common place to the exotic. Repping Thai, Vietnamese, Malaysian and Chinese cultures...it is truly a SUPER market. Stay away on weekends from 11-3pm and avoid during the Lunar New Year...it is packed and last year they actually ran out of peanut oil...han bu hao isa! (my bad pinyin for very embarrassing). They do not have a fresh prepared food cafeteria like 99 Ranch....BUT, they do have fresh east coast lobsters for 7.99 a lb....where else could I possibly get them for that price in this part of Cal.??

Clean Asian grocery store. Unlike the American grocery stores that open at 6am, this one opens at 9am. Good place to find Asian stuff. If you're trying to find Pizza Rolls and Lasagna, you're going to be disappointed. But if you're trying to find ramen and shrimp flavored chips, then this is the right place. This place needs to fix their refrigerated section where the milk and juice are. They are barely cold because it is not enclosed. That's a big one to me, so I'm docking a star for that. I had to go to some place else to buy my OJ since I didn't want to chance getting tart juice. Sorry, Lion. I know it's an expense, but people want cold milk and cold juice.

  • Maria C.

I come here to shop for my mom, it’s close to where she lives. You’ll be lucky if you get a grocery cart during the weekends. There’s a variety of fruits and vegetables. I think they’re a little cheaper then Lucky’s or Safeway. Staff is friendly here so that’s a plus for Lions. Walmart is the best place to go for household items, and meat selections is better. Parking is available on weekdays and weekends. Be aware of solicitors in front of Lions. FYI: There’s also a LIONS on Story road, but it’s hard to find parking.

Bad customer service. When I go to check out, the cashier treat me so rude. Ask me to stand in the back line without any reason, although I am the first person walk to her. When she served me, Shout at me I need to bring out my groceries, otherwise she refused to help me check out. She didn’t give me any time to load the grocery, just shout me. Then she jumped to another cashier to chat during her work, let me wait , wait , wait. This is the terrible experience ~~~

  • Vicki Luong

There is no customer service here!! Don't expect much help here. It has a variety of different types of seafood and meats. They do free fish frying service. Fish and seafood area was too busy with clean up and the workers all had their backs which I thought was not helpful to anyone so I had to go fetch my own shrimp with head on and needed it to be weighed. Even then it took awhile to get anyone's attention.

  • Xin Zhao

Terrible service. Bought a lot of things. When checked out the cashier just scan the price and ask me scan credit card. No body is support customer for packaging. I need to pack myself and take care of my two year old son at the same time. There is a long queue and the cashier just stand and watch me doing that. I asked her to help and she just ignore it. Never come back. Shame on you as Chinese grocery store

  • Sondra M

I went there on a Sunday. There were no shopping carts available. I started shopping until about 9 min later a cart was available. After checking out, I went home and realized I was missing some items. Over $30 in groceries. THEY WOULD NOT GIVE ME THE GROCERIES THAT THE BAG PERSON DID NOT PUT IN MY CART. Bad shopping experience and the customer service is not acceptable.

  • Jung Lee

One of those larger Asian supermarkets similar to 99 Ranch Market. You can ask them to clean and cook the fish that you choose. Selection of fresh vegetables, spices and meats are quite good. Beef selection is not the high grade of cuts. Of course customer service and amenities for you are quite low since it is not your mainstream supermarket.

  • Bhaskar Bhattacharjee

Store layout is very similar to Ranch 99 market. They carry pretty much everything that one would expect from an asian grocery store. They carry fresh and frozen selection of fish/seafood, poultry, and meat. The store gets a bit crowded over the weekends but that's a good problem for the business to have. Overall, no complains.

  • Nai Saechao

This lion store fry the fish for you but there is no food safety regulations. They get the raw fish with semi cook fish at the same time. I asked for them to fry the fish for me and when my fish was almost done cooking, then they place other people's raw fish on the bottom anf moved my stacked in top of the raw fish. Nasty!!!

  • johrdyn

LOVE THIS MARKET!!! We shop here for their incredible produce .. The produce prices are 80% lower then any big chain grocery store and the quality is SUPERIOR!! Prices on other items throughout the market are very lower also .. Customer service is always above par ... I always recommend Lion Market to family and friends ..

  • Hong Ha Nguyen

Good price for fruit and veges. However, This place need to check the food freshness before putting on the shelf. I bought kimchi box today expiration day is sep 27 2023. Today only Jun 05 2023. And I opened the box right after I unloaded my grocery just to find out this box smell like alcohol. (It goes bad). …

  • Kathy Luong

The only reason why I come here is because it's the closest market to me but the frowns of the people working there are just such a damper. It's your typical Asian market but I don't get my usual fish and seafood here because it's not as fresh as other Asian markets. Just the staple items and veggies people!

  • Aye Thwin

Rude staff, understand language issue, but tone of voice and face /the way they look at customers even wearing masks, can't feel welcoming or willing to help, may be because of bad management in customer services, expired foods especially fish cake paste and dried shrimp, don't buy those foods there

  • Nicole Ha

Do not shop here. They sell rotten food stored at wrong temperature and when I took pictures and brought it back, they refuse to acknowledge it or offer any exchange or refund. I was told the owners and managers are too busy to talk to me. I will be reporting them to the health department.

  • Yiesha Rahman

We used to like going to lion super market because almost all the Asian groceries is available but today they gave us spoiled fishes. Last week they gave my cousin spoiled fishes. So Be very careful when buying fishes. You don’t want to pay money for spoiled fishes and get sick. :(

  • chenda svay

I like shopping there because it's close to my house..but as a female I get harassed by the males butchers and the grocery men all the time..when I complained to the store manager they still didn't do anything. Therefore I never have a peaceful pleasant experienced when I shop.

  • Rent Home

Due to Covid-19, seems like all goods has increased in price. This chain supermarket is located on capitol expressway. Very much like other store, most of items can be found at this location. The cleanness needs a little improvement, other than that, everything else is fine.

  • Jacqueline Campos

Something I found very helpful was that the costumers are helpful because some of the workers don't speak English so one of the costumers translated for us! Super nice people and customer service at least for us, just ask in advanced if they speak English just in case!

  • Jia Chen

You get veges and fruits in a lot cheaper price even comparing to other Asian grocery store. There are not a lot of live seafood. But not bad for daily protein needs from beef, pork, fish etc. You can also find all popular Asian snacks, cooking sauces and dried goods.

  • Thien An

The location of this Lion super market is much better than the one on Tully road and Steven Creek. The interior is newer, cleaner. It's usually much easier to find a parking, too. It probably is also safer cause I have not seen, heard, or been robbed here.

  • Jason Lei

Lion market have a weird smell when you first step into the market. The market isn't as clean as 99 Ranch, Marina Food, and some other Asian markets. The prices is about average, around the same with most others except they usually have cheaper produce.

  • TheOne Anjel

Wow, there's so many kinds of noodles and jarred bean curd. I love going to Asian markets now and then an this one is well stocked. Couldn't find rice paper in any major market but they had 10 varieties here. Good prices and lots of treasure finds.

  • Nathan Quan

They are horrible their customer service is bad. They don't have manner and rude to customers. They spoke broken English as well, no common sense, lack education on food products. I believe the guy running the store doesn't care his name is Alex.

  • Brandy T

Definitely my go to now for anything Asian. I even found boba and jellies for my tea here. Outstanding customer service and kind people throughout the store. I was even able to find my favorite instant Japanese noodles and fresh miso paste.

  • Young Pham

Most popular Asian market in Bay Area with large varieties of fresh vegetables, poultry, seafood, live fish, crustaceans... you need for your meals, reasonable prices, large parking, cornerlot of McLaughlin and Capitol Expwy.

  • Marc the Pooh

Fresh vegetable and fruit produce is plentiful. The wet market offers a lot of selections. Most Asian canned or bottled food and cooking items are available. Spacious store interior. Big parking lot in front of the store.

  • Fred Wong

This Asian store has all the Asian groceries you need, but I'm rating them with a one-star because it's super dirty there. There appears to be a lot of mold near the produce section and also the meat department area.

  • Gabriel Mendoza

People were rude except in the deli or meat department. The guy who helped me was extremely friendly despite the fact they were about to closing. He was very patient and made sure I left with exactly what I wanted.

  • Michael Kim

They had red curry paste and curry powder for the laksa we made, but the watermelon here was AWFUL and previously frozen. The fresh “egg noodles” we got were disgusting and floury and we had to throw them out.

  • Bulent Kasman

I like this marker for all things from Asia. I am never disappointed for not finding the seasoning, the herb or the flour I'm looking for. Prices are great and it's located near the 101 get for easy access.

  • Bertha Poblacion

I,DON'T SHOP THERE ANY MORE AFTER HEARING MANY THINGS HOW THE NOODLES ARE MADE AND PLASTIC RICE, CABBAGE, EGGS AND THERE FRUIT IS EXTREMLY LARGE!!! IT'S PROBLABLY MONSANTO I, PREFER LUCKY SAFEWAY ORGANIC!

  • Sophy Wong

Poor customer service. No hi, bye, or a thank you. They also they are not on top of their expired food. I had to stop buying egg noodles from them because I foundmold in the noodles on multiple occasions.

  • JR Arevalo

Staff and visitors has been very kind and helpful. All the things i need i found including the balikbayan box that i need. It was a one stop shop for all your veggie and asian needs. Love this place!!!

  • Hao Chen

Asian supermarket. Good for snacks, drinks, utensils, and spices from Asia. Fresh produce, meat and seafood, generally speaking, are lesser quality than American supermarkets and Ranch99’s.

  • ziliao xuexi

The food prices higher than other lion food center and less shopping cart that’s not convenient! I have to take heavy food bag by myself !I don’t want go this market anymore!Never go it!

  • Jarrett Lim

Very vibrant, full of life. Screaming asian ladies, really loud noises, reminds me of markets in China. Best grocery store, go there every week. Note: Go to ranch 99 for rice!

  • Kendrick Do

No frills asian market for all your grocery needs. Prices are cheap, food is good, the floor is dirty and there is a fishy smell by the fishmonger. Ahhhh what's not to love?

  • Rajarshi Chaudhuri

I come here specially for Chinese tea, sauces and overall for fish. They have the system for cleaning and cutting of the whole fish for you. And they sell fish fillets also.

  • bruce chia

Lots of variety, perhaps even more than 99 ranch. At least they carry Glory Chilli sauce from Singapore! It is clean too. No self check-outs so lines could be a little slow.

  • R B

1st time going to this Asian store and they had quite a variety of items that I can't get at my local stores, will definitely make another trip there next chance I get

  • Don Watanabe

Trouble getting help at seafood and wasnt even busy. I even had to say so no one wants to help me. Some things are fresh some not. Needless to say I won't be back

  • Van Nguyen

This place has a lot of Asian food options, mostly are Chinese and Vietnamese products. However, it's quite dirty and doesn't smell good. Narrow aisles as well.

  • Catherine Ellacer

Great place to get Asian food and products at a cheaper price. Maxim over at Aborn is more expensive. I like that it's cleaner than the Lion Market at Tully.

  • Jorge Horna

No manager in the store! They made me pay twice for a product I paid for and they forgot to put it in my bag. Poor costumer service, and terrible management!

  • JO Cordero

They have ALL the things. Super hype to see different Asian foods and snacks usually found at other stories all in one store. I wish I had this near me...

  • Rick Jarboe

Big selection of all types of food, most of which you probably didn't know existed. You can always find something. Interesting to simply come in and look.

  • Hank H

Went to the Tai Pan Chinese BBQ and Dim Sum... their roast duck is ok not bad a little on the salty side. The dim sum a little on the higher price side.

  • Trang Ha

They raised their prices too much too quickly during this pandemic. The employees are not polite; they do not greet their customers or say “thank you”.

  • Sandra Rosas Olden

The store has improved since my last review. The store is clean and organized. The employees are nice, and the overall vibe is much better.

  • Melodi Masaniai
