I really love this library because the staff are so great! The recent interior renovations have matched the beauty of the exterior; making the space much more functional and modern. The only downside is the fact that they don't have as large of a selection of reading material that the other libraries maintain. However, if you order your books online, you can pick them up at any suitable location. Do be cognizant of the creepers in the park though. As I was walking through with my 2 children, a man appeared with a syringe in his hands. We veered off path to avoid him. After we returned our books in the book drop and rounded the corner to the main entry, there he was sitting on the stair case shooting up in broad daylight. It is very unsettling to see these things being done out in the open but seems to be common place in the city these days. I alerted the security guard who immediately took action.
Lovely library with pleasant staff. I’ve really enjoyed tutoring here for the past six months. I was recently told that I was speaking too loud and that I may bother other patrons. I work out of libraries most days for both my tutoring job and my other job as a support worker. I have yet to run into this problem in other libraries, but I have seen quite a few people be talked to about their noise level in this specific one. Other libraries have quiet study sections, and I wonder if that’s a possible solution to this problem. I’ll be moving my activities to a library where I don’t have to whisper, but I suggest this one for a good, relaxing place to read or study.
When the novelty of working form home has MORE than worn off, I like to hit the Memorial Park Library and get a lot of stuff done - the oldest library in the province - which has been open since 1912. And now that the new downtown library branch is all the rage, it's typically very easy to come here and get an excellent table with a great view, power outlets, plenty of silence, great daylight, very strong internet (see attached photo of speed test), etc...
Usually love this library but was very disappointed when the librarians suggested a service dog was not welcome. Despite offering ID for the dog and explaining his service dog title - and his obvious level of training and behaviour - they continued to think of more excuses why he shouldn't come into the piano room with me (public space = legally service dogs have access). Surprising because libraries are some of the best places in terms of accessibility.
One of the oldest park in Calgary, water fountains and water splash ground fountains for kids during summer. The library was recently renovated inside and very historical and a small, however it just beautiful building, I think they used to have kid and parents program in the basement before covid but I don't know if they still have it on. It also use for voting and top floor is Wordfest. Wheelchair and elevator access on the back of the building.
Staff here are amazing! Cheerfully and patiently helped me with all my computer and printer concerns. They don’t have a desktop computer here, rather they let you borrow their chromebook laptops for free. I like that they renovated this old library and now it looks way better than the other locations! Only downside is that you have to pay for the street parking. But other than that, I think this location will be my go-to library from now on.
This library is a hidden gem. I usually find myself here during final exams. It is a reconfigured historical building which has been restored really nicely. The staff are Incredible and the atmosphere is really calm and a good environment. My only complaint would be parking being a bit tricky, while I've never had problems parking, you can generally only park for 2 hours, but that is no fault of the Library!
I had known there was a library there but just couldn't find it then one day did. I love historical buildings and usually drop in once a month to study, relax or pick up a DVD that isn't at my local library. The ambiance is peaceful, staff friendly and with your card you can use the free wifi either in the library or while sitting outside at the tables adjacent to the building.
I had an extremely pleasant experience here today ! The library looks like a safe, clean, and organized place and has things that encourage reading on display. Also a shout out to the Security Guard Walter who was there today actively helping people (including myself) who came in and made their experience wonderful with his great friendly personality and willingness to help.
Always welcomed with smile and provided with great service! Some of the most helpful people around the city :) Small library but if you do your research beforehand, you will be set! Drop box is located around the side of the entrance stairway. Surrounded by a greatly landscaped park, you will find a lot of seating areas and grassy spots to have a picnic or get some sun.
This library is a comfy place to study/work/read/relax. It is quiet, clean and well-organized. The staff is friendly and ready to help you. I love the big windows and the amount of natural light that enters the library! Also, the view outside of the library is so pretty! (However, it can be a little bit cold during winter, especially in the rooms with the old windows)
The Wonderful staff gave me a quick tour of the place and I was so glad of their kindness. A true beauty in a beautiful park surrounded by some harsh modern architecture. A beauty like this takes the edge off all the glass, steel, and concrete starkness of downtown. I loved this building, I also thought it amazing that it is still a library and long may that continue!
absolutely beautiful building in a gorgeous park with a fountain sidewalk for the kids to get wet in. inside the library you step back in time inside this epic detailed heritage building in pristine condition and a fantastic kids section for book with cozy chairs to sit and read to them . a real gem.
We come here weekly with our two year old to drop off and pick up new books. The staff are helpful and friendly, and there's a small play area for kids. It seems like there are more kids coming here all the time. The building itself and surrounding park are beautiful, which adds to fun experience.
My favorite library in town! It's small for in house books but it lends musical instruments. You borrow the instruments in the same manner as you would borrow books. It is quite wonderful as an option for low income persons wanting to try playing music but unable to buy instruments out right.
Notable historical landmark. The guard made a nuisance of himself by pacing back and forth in front of me while I was reading. The building itself is well maintained with a nice selection of reading. The librarians are friendly and helpful. I am sure the surrounding park is lovely in summer.
Appreciate the events organized for kids of all ages. Great place for a visit with your young ones.park outside to run around, books and library to explore inside. It is a hidden gem of library.was here for the wordfest event and it was time well spent.
Staff here are interested in the library users-- they are welcoming and accessible. They are happy to share info in the building and its history; they seem invested in the people and the legacy of this Calgary treasure.
I really love this library. The place is great! Everybody working there is so nice and helpful. The rooms inspire me, it is an exceptional building. The natural light coming through the huge window is a dream.
Personalized care, experienced staff, courteous Security, amazing renos, bike racks close to steps into library and 24-hr book return all hit the high notes for me. This is Calgary's 1st library. Support it!
The staff is always friendly and helpful. I like the atmosphere of this library and the way that so many people from the neighbourhood enjoy sitting and using this space like a comfy living room.
QUESTA È UNA BIBLIOTECA PUBLICA, C'ÈL'ACCESSO PER TUTTI, ED È CIRCONDATATA DA UN BELLISSIMO PARCO, LE PERSONE SPESSO SI FERMONO A LEGGERE NEL PARCO IN ESTATE, SOPRA A LE PANCHINE E IL PRATO.
Scanner was broken. Service machine (where you self-checkout) was broken. Service was not helpful. Would not recommend this library branch to anyone- Fishcreek library is much better!
I love this library. I work close by and when I go to pick up my hold items, I like to take a walk around the library. Always friendly, quite and clean!
Very nice library located in a beautiful park in the heart of Downtown. Not very big but perfect to spend some quiet time reading or looking for books.
Great place to focus on your work and read a book. Very nice service, i borrowed a guitar and returned her back. Left satisfied with service and staff.
Cozy library. Participated in a walking tour in the neighbourhood by library volunteers. Great tour. Central Memorial Park is a nice place to relax.
Beautiful old library that's modern on the inside. Also a great place to borrow an instrument (wait times in the weeks to months, but it's free)
I had a wonderful experience at this library. It is a very calming space. The staff were patient and helpful. I will absolutely be back again.
Excellent library. It may have a smaller collection, but it's atmosphere makes up for it... and not to mention the excellent Staff!
Lovely historic building! It is a tiny library - book collection is limited and the reading room is small. Friendly staff.
I like the staff and the library. They are helpful and gentle. The ambiance is really attractive too. Highly recommended.
Small selection of books, but if you reserve online they will send them to this location for pick up. Very convenient!
Very small compared to most libraries. It's quiet most days and the surrounding park is a great place to read a book.
Really nice and clean inside and outside. The park outside is a great place to study or nap if the weather is good.
amazing library, great place to go relax and read. its a very historical library and the architecture is beautiful
Beautiful building, great library with plenty comfortable places to learn, read or work. A must visit in Calgary.
It's a decent place to enjoy for a couple of hours. But the riff raff kill the idea for a long time visit.
104 years old! Apparently the oldest library in Alberta. It is a beautiful, quite place to open a book.
A nice place to go on a lunch break. Bring a lunch and check out some books. Cool historical building.
Nice and peaceful area to study. They have laptops and good internet setup for usage in their premises
Amazing staff helped me with booking practice room of playing musical instrument. Highly recommended.
The library in the park where you can read in a historical building. 歴史ある建物中で、読書できる、公園の中の図書館。
Very nice..nice and the outside is very awesome. Reminds me of ....the zoo, when I was young.
5 stars for the architecture & ambiance in this very small but fairly well stocked library.
Wonderful historic building. Nice atmosphere. Beautiful park, favourite library.
Well maintained building. Great staff and great book selection found there.
Beautiful. A little small but is great for having your holds shipped to.
Lovely staffs but still no water to drink. Covid is not an excuse though
Very small library. Which is great it makes the library very personal.
