To whom it may concern, I wish to express my sentiments regarding my long-standing patronage of Metro on Bloor, spanning two decades. In particular, I find it imperative to convey my dual sentiments of both admiration and disappointment concerning my interactions with both the establishment and its personnel. The produce section, a veritable bastion of freshness, has commanded a substantial portion of my financial expenditure, primarily on the array of organic fruits. Yet, it is with the personnel that my experience diverges into a complex tapestry. Within the confines of this retail haven, I have encountered a spectrum of employees, ranging from the truly exceptional to the regretfully subpar, which appears to be the predominant disposition at Metro on Bloor. Regrettably, I must draw attention to an aspect that has consistently marred my experience. As a Black Transgender Woman, my sojourns to Metro on Bloor have regrettably engendered a milieu replete with anxiety, frustration, and an ever-present sense of trepidation. I have taken the liberty of lodging complaints with senior management and supervisors, articulating my concerns over personal safety, notably in the context of certain incidents of stalking. Alas, my appeals for assistance to security personnel have been met with limited efficacy. Furthermore, a disconcerting discrepancy between employee diligence manifests in the store's tidiness. It is either that the staff exhibit a conspicuous laxity in maintaining cleanliness and orderliness, OR that they are deliberately obstructing the aisles with errant carts and trolleys when I am in the store shopping. A poignant example of such disregard is how the employees never seem to want to offer me assistance when I am in need, or when I am looking for items, leaving me baffled and incredulous. Yet, in the midst of these grievances, there shines a beacon of exemplary service, that person is Raj from the Security team. This gentleman, distinguished by his courtesy, professionalism, and unwavering respect, is an oasis of positivity within the establishment. Regardless of my initial mood upon entering, the presence of Raj invariably uplifts the collective spirit of the store. Despite the catalog of safety concerns I have articulated, I find solace and a sense of security in his presence, akin to that enjoyed by every other shopper. I am compelled to recount a recent incident that encapsulates Raj's outstanding character. On a fateful day, I faced a medical emergency, compounded by plummeting blood sugar levels and associated ailments that rendered me faint and breathless. In a dire predicament, I attempted to purchase a batch of Concord grapes, falling short of the requisite 90 cents to complete the transaction. The self-checkout attendant, unbending in her resolve, threatened to withhold the grapes unless the outstanding amount was paid. Desperation compelled me to seek assistance from fellow patrons, but my pleas fell upon deaf ears. I beseeched an employee, but her response remained unyielding. As I made my exit, I serendipitously encountered Raj, briefly apprising him of my predicament, I did not include the medical emergency that had befallen me. Unbeknownst to him, I was grappling with a dire situation. Without hesitation, Raj extended to me one dollar, a sum that, in that moment, seemed as valuable as a million. Overwhelmed with gratitude for this simple act of kindness, my faith in both divinity and humanity was rekindled. It is imperative that I underscore the profound impact of Raj's actions that day. I would have fainted or got injured that day if not for his kindness. In essence, he bestowed upon me a lifeline, and for that, I am eternally grateful. In conclusion, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Raj, a paragon of compassion and benevolence, who, amidst the vicissitudes of life, illuminated my path when I needed it most. His actions serve as a testament to the potential for kindness and empathy to shine brightly even in the darkest of moments. Raj is the ONLY reason you are getting 5 stars.
Buy grapes. 3 kinds of grapes. One price is 1.99$ and the other 2 are 11$KG which is not marked. Refund. Bought milk. The lady cashier made a mistake. Did not see the label for the discount. The full amount was charged. If you don't feel the total price has a problem, call them after you go home. They are ready to happen. They will not refund to you money. The phone asks metro why is it wrong price ? It is not their fault to be confident. Is it the customer's fault? It is their fault that a Lady asks me to take them back to the Metro with super heavy milk. Can I bring back the bag outside the milk package? The unreasonable Lady said :You must bring back all the products and invoices. Later, I changed the attitude better of a metro member. I have encountered such a disgusting attitude for the first time in this supermarket for three years, and I can make a mistake. Please acknowledge that your work mistakes have caused guests to rush back and forth between home and supermarket to waste their time. I was pay 7$ Uber from Metro to my home . Now these ladies just said simple and easy. You bring it back. I doesn’t have the car. For you is easy. For me is not easy. Simple work like check and collecting money is going to go wrong. Let the guests run back and forth. And told that the guests wrong because guests did not check? Please put huge pictures told customers you need check by yourself. We are not responsible for anything. So why does Metro still hire Cashier? Directly change the machine cash register and only one Cashier like shoppers.
Purchased two bouquets of flowers under a sign that said $8.99 each. They rang up as $15.99. I asked two different employees about this and to correct the price and was told they don't work in the "flower department" I asked if someone who did work in the flower department could help me and was told she wasn't there. Since i was in a rush I decided I would donate the extra $14 and just purchase them... when I asked if the bouquets could be combined (ie. simply remove them from their packages - not hard!!!) and then wrap them I was told they "don't do flower arrangements." This is a standard service. I was then told that if the "flower person" was there, she could do it but that it costs extra. I told her I had already paid an extra $14 for the flowers and maybe they could remove them and simply combine them like every other place in the world would. I was then yelled at for "snapping at her." I dunno - usually I assume that a price in front of a product is the price? And that they can simply wrap flowers? It would also be nice if the staff wouldn't be so rude. I asked if the manager could call me and was told that wasn't possible. this place is abysmal. In what world is combining two different bouquets "flower arrangements"? This isn't the first time or even the 10th time I have purchased something here for a price that is different than what is listed right in front of it and the employees simply refuse to help me claiming it's not their problem. This place should be shut down. It's extortion. Who is pocketing the extra cash?
This store always feels over extended to me. The employees here work hard from everything I can tell but there's never enough of them. There's not enough space there to cater to what everyone wants. There are a lot of prepackaged meals which is great for college kids, unfortunately if you want food for a family you're often out of luck. The butchers are clearly untrained because the cuts that I've seen them put out there range from acceptable at best to terrible with most being subpar. Not their fault because they obviously haven't had enough training. I've never shopped anywhere that I had as much trouble with milk going bad before its expiry date as I have here. There's clearly an issue with refrigeration. I know they service a lot of folks at this store and the employees are working with what they have so I'm not faulting them. If you're close to any other Grocer you will likely be better off going there rather than here
I'm sorry, but if the chain can't keep their stores open by paying their employees a decent wage, and benefits, then I'm not too sure how they can say they enjoy making sure the stock is rotated correctly and the store is kept clean after a pandemic. There's a lot of extra work when dealing with mentally disabled homeless people mixing up the stock and leaving items out in the wrong places. Oops, not a homeless person, just a lazy pig who thinks the store's labor is free. I don't, I return the items and wash my hands both before and after entering the store. The public demand for more intensive cleaning has increased the labor within your stores, and if you can't compensate reasonably, then you can't compete. Students have been inconvenienced by your store's closure for over a week now, and it looks like you don't care about their needs either.
Will never shop at this location again. Store was neat, the majority of the staff were great, except one older lady walking around with a scan gun and placing pieces of plastic around the tags, the way she treated customers and staff was appalling. I feel so bad for the other staff who have to deal with her on a regular basis, I hope they either find new jobs or she gets let go, no one should treat anyone the way she treated people, especially in a retail environment where people skills should be one of the most important traits to have. She somehow found a way to have less then no people skills, she is so rude to staff who are stocking shelves and working so much harder then she was. If you are someone else who works there reading this, know you deserve better.
So sometimes I like this store even though it is expensive and crowded with little space to move around in the aisles. But today I am done. There is a grey haired, old chick at one of the check out counters and I first she asked me if I need a bag and when I said not thank you she stuff all of my things in individual plastic bags for meat. 4 bags I got that I did not want! THEN when I went o pay with my credit card I tapped and it didn't work! She said, "You used a debit card." And then instead of waiting for me to find my credit card she changed it to "debt" and checked me out on my debit card which has too little money in it for my payments!!! METRO! How be your SERVICE people actually communicate with your costumers!?!?
Been shopping at this metro since I moved downtown for a while. It hasn’t been bad My friend told me about student discounts on weekdays so I decided to give it a try & was told no because I don’t have a physical card ?? The staff I spoke to was very rude and should do better when talking to customers. My college OneCard literally has gone virtual since covid and we haven’t gone back to using physical cards. Tried explaining that to the employee & she was so so rude about it. We have an app which has replaced the physical cards in school, which I showed and still they disagreed Covid has changed a lot of protocols over the years which should also change how stores approach things they are not used to. Do better
Not a jumbo-sized large surface store you find in the suburbs considering its Downtown location, still has as good a variety of foods, and a larger amount of prepared dishes. Good crowd control. Perfect store, so close by. I see other critical reviews: Yes people are not following the aisle one-way arrows on the floor, but they can't have one employee follow each customer. And I agree with the issue of customers entering and exiting through the same door, but I think it's due to the unique layout of this store. This way, they keep better track of the crowd numbers, making it easier to manage occupancy more efficiently. Make sure your mask covers your nose and chin and you should be fine.
It's a rather small place, and the isles are narrow. Almost always it's crowded. The items are not much varied, and prices feel a little higher than the other, bigger supermarkets, though I haven't really given it a check. The redeeming quilality is its location. I believe it's the only supermarket in the vicinity of Bloor and Spadina, except for the much larger, Chinese supermarket T&T further to the south at Spadina and College. I note there are some complaints in the other reviews about the security guards showing attitude, and it's somewhat true. Somehow they make their presence felt more than at other supermarkets, which may be the point given the neighborhood.
Probably the worst Metro in Toronto. The only thing that was ever good about it was pre covid it was a 24/7 metro but that is no longer the case. Poor organization. Often out of stock of everything. The quality of produce is horrendous. You can often find fruits and vegetables molding and rotting. The staff at the deli counter are lazy and rude. Will spend a lot of time ignoring customers while they chat away and then the check out counters. Oh my...self check out is a disaster, and they might have 2 cash registers open while people line up through the aisles and create absolute chaos in this small location. I try to avoid this like the plague.
Today About 5pm I bought this BBC from this Thief Dirty Metro at Bloor and Spadina Time that posting this review is 7pm! I came from gym and workout hard that I saw this burned Very Dry Checken on my dinner table! I was so hungry tried to eat but it was not eatable at all. When I was at store I saw A tall Indian security was harassmening one of uoft students to get her number. Many students complained to uoft police and Toronto Police but it seems manager giving them bribe
The quality of their baked goods are horrendous. I bought a spanikopita and pizza buns. The spanikopita was doughy and bland. The spinach could have a better colour. The pizza buns are oily and way too much cheese and not enough sauce. It's very overpriced for the quality of the food. It's a very small selection of baked goods and products in general. This has to be the worst Metro I've ever visited. Will definitely NOT go back.
Lovely employees and they are incredibly patient considering the absolute zoo that this place becomes around 5pm. Think the 401, but instead it's just people trying to get down the aisle for bread without colliding with oncoming traffic and sustaining life threatening injuries. Have I walked into a pole in the middle of the aisle trying to get out of the slow lane? Absolutely. I suggest avoiding rush hour here.
Metro is a little overpriced but that's obviously true of every location. This particular location was missing a few seemingly crucial items, like fresh garlic and ginger and there were a couple empty produce shelves. However, this is something I've noticed is a general issue across many stores these days. On a positive note, there was parking available at around 6pm on a Monday; do your shopping then!
I like this local neighborhood store. I also like stores this size. Not too big, but they usually have some version of what you want, and often much cheaper than Loblaws. This place is usually packed and busy, especially at peak times like 5-7 pm. It has small aisles but is kept clean and well stocked. Staff are pretty friendly and helpful. Good sized parking lot at the back.
A bit cramped but otherwise nice, lots of different fruits and vegetables for more than you'd pay at Walmart, but considering how much closer it is, it isn't a bad deal, I would definitely say that you will save money by going to Walmart though, the prices here are considerably higher. But it has a great selection and held everything I was looking for.
A convenient location not far Spadina station, this Metro has lots to offer despite its relatively small size. Sure, the aisles can get a little tight when it’s busy, but they always have some decent sales and the staff are always courteous and conversational. It feels a bit like a small town grocery store, and I mean that as a compliment.
Although a smaller store they have a good selection of items and most importantly, sell a wide range of meat quantities. Not everyone needs to buy in bulk and having smaller cuts available is very convenient. They also have good options for grab and go type stuff if you’re in the area looking for a cheap lunch/dinner.
I've never seen a grocery store with so many empty shelves. This Metro seems to be perpetually out of stock for even essentials, and the freshness of the produce is often questionable. Metro is usually overpriced and doesn't have an amazing selection, but this location is a special kind of awful even for them.
They were struggling to get stuff stocked for a while, and I think it improved but not by much. Produce is just fine, nothing great. Meat section is reasonable given its location. I think metro overall is facing a bit of supply issue. All the workers here are fantastic and very helpful.
The deli and bakery sections are great. This is one of my favorite grocery stores in Toronto and I just noticed a notice sign out front for a high rise condo so this stores day are numbered. This grocery store has been there for decades. Pretty soon I won't even recognize this city
It’s really odd seeing employees having zero interest in helping as they all appear too busy listening to something on their ear buds. It’s also weird seeing a “security guard” laughing it up with employees and just mindlessly swearing in front of customers. So odd. ♂️ …
I buy groceries at this Metro because it's close to where I live. As far as Metro's go, it's small and has a relatively limited selection of items. It's not the most convenient place to be pushing a grocery cart around, so it's more suited to buying a few things at a time.
Not such a good visit this time. A sale item was sold out. I went to get a rain cheque. I wanted to buy 20. They said no. Then I said how about 10. They said no. Why couldn't she just tell me what the limit was? It was 4. Fine. Could have avoided playing 20 questions.
The place is easily accessible with a kitchnette, meat, sweets and the general groceries. Went there to get chicken, which was good, then a pizza, which was overfilled with cheese and a bit of pepperoni, which took about 20 minutes to make. Overall, a good experience.
I love this supermarket due to its proximity to where I live and the availability of free parking. Their prices are also cheaper compared to other highly branded supermarkets. I like their fruit trays which I normally buy from them. Metro is my supermarket of choice.
I like metro they have the best meat and the deli and bakery are great. The rotisserie chicken is great when it's too hot to cook. They always have their isles neat and organized things are easy to find and staff is generally very accommodating and helpful
Lots of inexpensive prepared food options. Sale prices tend to be decent though sometimes this location stock can be low. Have found twice their deli salads seemed "off" possibly carried too many days. Decent selection of groceries overall though.
First time to this location. Bright and clean, not very busy at 8 pm. Some prices shockingly high, guess I don't go for groceries often. Found some things I like that I don't usually find. Nice selection of frozen fruit I noticed.
Small store with a meat counter and a bakery. Optimal shopping experience. Only down side small isles and plenty of crowding. Plus on Tuesday -Thursday if you're a student you get 10% off with your student ID card
Shelves are empty at all times which has nothing to do with covid supplies because they have empty shelves since forever. The store management has difficulties seeing or solving the problem, no goods no profit.
Convenient and 24 hours. Has a wide selection despite its small size but it can get extremely crowded in the afternoon. They recently added 6new self check out kiosks which should alleviate lines significantly
We had Sunday lunch here. Friendly service, but we found the food quite over priced. Also, have had better Indian food in other restaurants, so we did not feel the price justified a second visit.
I seldom leave a 5-star comment, but today the staff at the self-checkout was so helpful. She explained and helped me unlock a discount that I should have not noticed myself, thank you so much!
Such an amazing experience at this Metro!! The guy working at the seafood counter made our families whole day!! He was absolutely AMAZING!! We will be coming back to this Metro every weekend!
Just spoke with a man nicknamed ET from the meat department. He was very knowledgeable about steak and helped me find the right cut of meat for my tartar. Thank you ET!!!
Filthy dirty and shelves unstocked. Lots of staff standing around while a couple of people did all the work. I'm surprised there hasn't been a health violation recently.
Good basic selection of groceries, snacks and to go ready made food. A little bit on the expensive side. Their caramel cupcakes from the bakery section is really good.
Your in-store ground pork is horrible. Please grind it finer. It nearly ruined my dinner efforts tonight. So fatty, too chewy. Never buying again until it improves.
Good prices, has everything I need for a weekly shopping trip. The in-house baked goods are fair quality for the price, I especially like their muffins.
Can be surprisingly busy at times. Mixed levels of service. I find that they are often low on produce but they do have a fairly decent selection.
This store is very conveniently located for me plus it's 24 hours. Get their prepared meals when fresh. Stear clear when it's marked down.
Prices are kind of high. But you can find pretty much everything you need there. Good selection of meat. Product section could be better.
Note - August 13th 2023 - this location is NOT currently open, it’s temporarily closed (and not updated on google)
Good quality butcher and fish sections. Produce can be overpriced but that’s all the downtown supermarkets.
Small but functional. Expect to pay a premium for groceries but there are well priced gems on occasion.
For a grocery store it was pretty reasonable. The prices compared to nova Scotia was a welcome relief.
Place has been closed for almost 4 weeks give q few bucks we want to shop
Poor selection, too expensive and they don't pay their employees enough.
Himanshu in the bakery section was very helpful. Had a good experience.
Better options for hot food than most of the trucks on u of t campus.
Very conveniently located due to its proximity to the subway station.
The staffs are so lovely and helpful, the deals are always good.
I love metro for the beef. I find best deals there.
Expensive Prices but Very Excellent Location
Very busy but convenient. Helpful staff
very clean store, very nice staff
good prices good staff …
