I have visited this charming bookstore on numerous occasions over the past year and each visit is always a pleasant experience. Today was the first time I have been able to stop by since the pandemic started (my last visit was back in March) and I was pleasantly surprised when Matt, the gentleman who is always happy to help when my son and I visit, recognized me despite having a face mask on. Apart from the book store being a great place to find great titles in stunning editions, the single act of kindness shown to me this afternoon when Matt asked how my son is doing is enough to make me want to come back again and again (and again). Over the course of several months, I have acquired a number of books to add to my library, including some beautiful Penguin cloth bound editions of my favorite books as well as a few children’s books for my 8-year old son. If I didn’t already have the same editions of some of my favorites from Nabokov, Vonnegut et al, I would buy them from Monkey and Dog Books in a heartbeat. The fact that they have stayed open and seem to be thriving (they seem to have added numerous bookshelves since I came in) despite an ongoing pandemic is proof that it is worth a visit.

This place is a noble member of an endangered species: the independent local bookstore. It's hard to explain to those who don't remember, but there was a time when bookstores worked hard to make you feel comfortable as a patron. They provided you with well-furnished areas for you to lounge in and allowed you to browse their selections at your leisure, only approaching when you clearly needed or requested assistance. Nowadays this is an increasingly rare thing, as many bookstores are huge chains which are more concerned with selling copies than serving their customers. Walking into this establishment was such a relaxing and refreshing throwback to the bookstores I grew up with as a kid. Cozy space, decent selection, very comfy furnishings, and a friendly and helpful staff make this a place I won't soon forget. I spent a lovely, quiet afternoon there earlier today, and I definitely see more in my future!

I was looking for an independent book store to buy a gift for a friend. I found this one on Google and went for a visit. What a precious joy tucked away off 7th St. A welcoming cozy spot where I was greeted by the friendly staff. I choose a birthday card for my friend and then explored the book selection from board books for infants up to the traditional classics. I selected a wonderful book for my grandson and a book for myself. They also let me know if there was anything I couldn't find they would gladly order it. I decided upon a gift card for my friend so she can visit and choose a book for herself. I will check back in on the variety of book clubs that they also host. So happy I found this spot and encourage all book readers to give it a try!

When looking for bookshops in Fort Worth, I overlooked Monkey and Dog Books because I thought it was only for children. But when I finally found myself between their shelves I realized the awful mistake I made. They have perfectly curated shelves for both children and adults. It reminded me of bookshops I visited in London because their selections are intelligent, delightful and refreshing. It’s almost like they make their selections with me in mind. Not only do they have books, but they have the cutest bookish gifts... library card mugs, literary inspired tea and book-inspired socks. MDB makes me want to skip Barnes & Noble’s generic selections and opt for their charming Shop Around the Corner.

When I imagine a quaint small town book shop, this is exactly what I picture! Upon walking in the door, I felt instantly transported to a small home library! This immediately became my favorite place to go! The kids selection is fantastic, and there are books everywhere and it was amazing watching my daughter explore and find new stories to fall in love with! When looking for a great book to read, but not sure what, this should be your first stop. The selection is great to find lesser known stories that are still amazing. I love supporting a local bookstore and the staff went above and beyond and were so kind! My family and I can't wait to go back!

Stumbled across this humble little bookshop on a Saturday looking for something else. Never got to the something else but really enjoyed looking around in the bookstore. We got there just as an author was finishing up introducing their new book. This place is small... cozy. Several shelf look like they are carved from a tree. The cook books are all in the kitchen area where there is also a selection of teas for sale. There are chairs and tables and a big leather couch and a roll top desk and .... well you just have to go see it. Oh yes, there are also a pretty good selection of new and some used books on the shelves.

It is a lovely amazing book store. It is very relaxing, quiet, and with some calming music that doesn't distract your reading, plenty good book choices and many classics, with all sorts of Genres. Along with their adorable Dog Sophie who comes in sometimes and is so sweet. Coffee and Tea ( which is free ) I would reccomend it to ANYONE who loves books and enjoys some quiet time or anyone who is willing to try something new. I hope you all have as much amazement and relaxation as I did. And not many people come in at a time so you won't be disturbed!

Don’t let the outside of the shop fool you. Once you walk in, you are surrounded in warmth and comfort. The book shop is stunning and cozy. Couches in between aisles and free coffee too! This cozy little bookshop had every type of book you could want. Even sticker books and puzzles. The staff is so meek and friendly. My favorite spot is the room built like a kitchen nook that holds all the cookbooks. There’s something for everyone here. Even a few book clubs. Definetly will become a regular. Felt like belle walking in.

Wonderful little shop tucked into the quiet streets behind other buildings, I had such a lovely time browsing the shelves and seeing all the selection of books they had. Some titles I hadn't seen before in more mainstream bookstores so I easily spent $100+ here! It also helps that the staff are incredibly amicable and eager to see whatever books you bring up to the register. This was my first time visiting an independent book store and I'm eagerly awaiting the next chance I get to come back!

This was a great surprise discovery on our outing today. Stopped in when we saw it. It has all the qualities of a great bookstore - comfy, great variety, and friendly staff. I almost felt like the sections were curated for me. There were books on the shelves that I've read, and are old friends. Books that have been on my to read list. Also, books that fit my interest perfectly that I didn't know were out. I'm looking forward to my next visit when I'm in a book browsing mood.

We are new to the area, and I found this bookstore through a list of "top ten in Texas." I and my equally book-loving niece visited and loved it. What a cozy place with an amazing selection. The staff was so helpful with recommendations I might have missed. It deserves its "top ten" rating for the store, the interesting inventory, and the staff. Definitely a place to come and spend some time. This will be my bookstore - and my niece will be back when she's in town!

Loved this bookstore and have spent a lot of time with my girls here and have bought many books to support this local business but will not be returning after seeing some of the more concerning books stocked in the children’s section, particularly in regards to “woke” ideologies. Sad they had to politicize a children’s area. I would encourage parents to check out this stuff and decide what’s best before letting your kids browse the shelves freely.

A very welcoming bookstore with a large variety of books & some comfy chairs for browsing books. Staff was very friendly. I was there for a book signing for "THE OTHER HALF OF HAPPY" by Rebecca Balcarcel. It was a fun, informative & thoroughly enjoyable experience. The story is about a pre-teen who is one-half Guatemalan & one-half American. The book gives insight into the struggles & confusion the young girl experiences. A good read for all ages.

This local book store is just delightful. They have excellent, relevant book choices in their small, quaint shop. And the shop owners are so very kind! A customer before me had left them a box of cookies and the owners insisted I get a cookie as well. They spoke with me about several books and shop owner and I gushed about how excited we both are with the book I picked it. They also have a shop pup who is so very sweet!

Amazing bookstore! They have a great selection of books and a lovely staff. The store dogs are also great; sweet and calm and always around to pet as you browse. They give 10% for educators and even will host book fairs and even for your school. The store is beautiful and inviting with different areas and themes to explore from cooking to children to adult. I highly recommend this for book lovers!

My wife and I visited about a month ago for the first time. The environment is very eclectic and full of book lovers with a great variety of books. I left with one that I would have never picked just because it was there and kind of drew me to it. What stands out the most were the people that run the business. They were very friendly and had a moment to speak with every one that entered.

A delightful and warm bookshop. We searched for an independent book store during or staycation in Fort Worth, and this one was a joy to find. The employees were knowledgeable, the shop was laid out beautifully (and dare I say playfully?), and the whole space felt like home. We kept finding books we had to have, and we feel the investment was worth it. We will be back!

Stores like this are so rare and it is a gift to have them here in Fort Worth! They are even hand delivering books locally to us, during this awful time of quarantine, due to the pandemic. This was one of the best and cutest bookstores I’ve ever been to! It was so clam and lovely inside with lots of seating. And there was such a variety of new and old books to choose from. I find a couple books I didn’t know about that sounded fantastic and I also bought some beautiful bookmarks to go with them. Definitely give them a visit if you’re ever in the area!

Very great service and I receive my special orders for books that are NYT bestsellers very quickly. I really love how quaint this bookstore is. The book collection is numerous with different genres and biographies. I definitely recommend to support your local bookstore especially Monkey and Dog Books with a better collection of classics and contemporary titles!

Oh my gosh, this was the cutest, cozy bookstore! I really wanted to pull out a book, sit down amd read! They had a great variety of books for all ages and the customer service was warm and friendly, i really enjoyed the conversation with the owner and employee. I can't wait to visit Monkey and Dog Books again, and look forward to becoming a regular!!

Having shopped at their old location, I expected the same good service, unfortunately this is same management. The store is quaint and orderly, I was not greeted upon entering, was not offered assistance, there were 3 employees helping 2 customers, when I mentioned the lack of service, they called me rude. Cute store with Wal Mart customer service.

This bookstore reminds me so much of the "Little Shop Around the Corner" from the movie "You've got Mail!" Everyone there is so helpful but they don't hover. I love their kids section most of all. I do wish that they had more Christian fiction novels for purchase but otherwise I feel like they have a great selection of different types of books.

This is the sweetest local bookstore! I had the pleasure of discovering it during a meet and greet with one of my favorite authors. While waiting in line, I had the opportunity to browse the shelves and saw the cutest area for kiddos. Highly recommend supporting local and shopping here. Also the staff were super friendly and warm!

Now this people are amazing. I come here daily. Happy faces, great atmosphere, incredible costumer service and attitude. They have a beautiful dog, that plays the role as the owner. And every kid comes to pet the dog and read stories. If you have kids and haven't been here... I don't know what are you waiting for …

I felt like I walked into the movie You've Got Mail! Was expecting to find Shopgirl but instead met Sophie! This is really the cutest little bookstore ever. The owners were very friendly and knowledgeable and their resident canine Sophie loves belly rubs. Great place to find that perfect gift.

I went here looking for one book, and ended up coming out with a gorgeous collectors edition of Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard (from one of my all time favorite series) and it was something I was NOT expecting! What a cool find! I'll definitely be coming back, this made my day.

This is the cutest little bookshop for children's books! They have a great selection, and Mrs. Shelley is wonderful with children. She remembers my boys and their favorite type of books every time we come in. Such a fun place for kids to develop a love for reading!

Monkey & Dog has the best selection of books for children and younger people that I've seen anywhere, along with very knowledgeable and help staff. I didn't have time to examine their books for adults on my first visit, but plan to do so in the future!

My daughter loves story time here, it's really a hidden gem. Although it is a small shop, they have a fantastic collection of books and a great place to find gifts. Just one of those places that adds great character to Fort Worth.

It was a little difficult to find because it is inside another business and the only sign on the outside is about 15" square right next to the door. They have a very limited selection. The person at the checkout was very pleasant.
