New Seasons Market in Portland’s Slabtown area is a delightful gem for anyone seeking quality organic foods and a wide variety of wines. This market, often compared to Whole Foods for its emphasis on natural and organic products, stands out with its unique charm and local flair. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The aisles are well-stocked with many organic options, ranging from fresh produce to health-focused snacks. The emphasis on local and sustainable goods is evident, making it a go-to place for those conscious about their food choices and the environment. The wine selection at New Seasons Market is particularly noteworthy. Whether you’re a connoisseur or looking to explore new varieties, their range caters to all palates. The staff’s knowledge and eagerness to assist add to the experience, making wine selection both enjoyable and informative. Customer service is another area where New Seasons Market shines. The staff are friendly and approachable, always ready to help with a smile. This level of care and attention to customers enhances the shopping experience, making each visit pleasant and memorable. In conclusion, New Seasons Market in Portland’s Slabtown is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates quality organic products, an impressive selection of wines, and exceptional customer service. Its commitment to sustainability and community values stands out in the city’s vibrant food scene.
I am very disappointed with whoever is in charge of giving “parking tickets.” I am a loyal customer and I received a ticket on my car after I was apparently shopping for too long. It was a week day morning the parking lot was nearly empty. And I ran into an old coworker while shopping and we chatted for apparently way too long and I did not think once “oh let me go move my car” because why would I? I am a new season’s customer! I should be allowed to park in the parking lot for christs sake! I now owe $44 to a multi million dollar company who already was getting plenty of my money. Even if I wanted to continue shopping here, I wouldn’t be able to! That $44 was my grocery money for the week! And I have already called and emailed trying to dispute the charge and no one is listening to me! I never write reviews but this situation has made me so angry. I am a 19 year old student working full time just trying to get by and now I have what used to be my favorite grocery store charging me 44$ for parking! At least put it on the signs “if you park here too long you’ll be charged an insane amount of money” and I wish I could walk there or take public transportation but there’s not a bus stop within 5 miles of where I live nor is it safe or realistic to walk. Anyways, this is very unfortunate. And thanks to you New Seasons I won’t be able to eat this week and have added yet another thing to stress about to my never ending list.
The New Seasons in Slabtown is another great location from this local market chain. It's always impressive to me how they manage to keep their stores so clean, well-organized and inviting - especially considering its urban Portland location right in the heart of things. Being surrounded by homeless encampments, you'd expect levels of dirt and disorder. But New Seasons does an amazing job maintaining a safe, tidy and pleasant shopping environment. The wide aisles feel spacious compared to other grocery stores downtown. As with other New Seasons, the selection of fresh, local and organic produce, meats and prepared foods is stellar. It's great to have an high-quality grocery option so conveniently located in this neighborhood. Everything is attractively displayed and well-lit too. Kudos to the staff who must work hard behind the scenes to present such a polished supermarket experience given the challenges of an urban setting. They provide a valuable resource to the community and visitors to Northwest Portland alike. This Slabtown New Seasons sets the bar for what a grocery store should be.
Shopped here because it’s in the neighborhood. I completely agree with all these reviews complaining about the overpriced items. 90% of the store isn’t worth the cost. A few of the employees need to improve their customer-service skills. And since you get equal or better quality products at other stores in the area, it’s worth it to walk a few blocks to Whole Foods. Not a “cheap” store either. But way more reasonable prices. A shame, because New Seasons does have a decent salad bar & fresh fish selection. But the place badly needs to reevaluate & adjust their pricing. I’m actually kinda surprised it’s still able to attract customers. I guess location is everything. And if you’re going to try to kill your customers with overpriced products - the Pearl is the one neighborhood with that kind of $ to burn.
I think it would be fair to call this the friendliest store in town. The staff is friendly, and even more importantly, helpful. The deli section with prepared foods is a real feast. The senior discount and the military discount are a real help. I got two additional discounts, so it really pays to be registered. And the store is spotlessly clean. Amazed to find all gender rest rooms! Yay! When the shelves are being restocked, they don't block the aisles. They have an option of uploading your payment device so that you get an email receipt rather than a paper receipt. That is nearly instantaneous. There are sale prices every week. No, it is not the cheapest store in town, but I was able to get items that were competitive with the chain stores.
Great produce and healthy food. Lots of foods already prepared for you. New Seasons has fruit, vegetables and spices that are not sold at neighboring supermarkets. Also the meat department is way better! They sell pre-cut meats in a simple marinade also usually with a few vegetables. This is nice because you can add the meats to your pan and begin cooking without having to cut the meat on your own cutting board etc... I wish other grocery stores had this down. Taking a look at the bulk spices is well worth it. You can open up a jar and smell it for an example of what the herb or spice tastes like. Recommended.
Already a sign of gentrification in general but a convenient location for a market, but really off putting to have a white man outside who actively walked up to specifically question my non white friends who’d been walking behind me about parking in their garage because he doubted we were shopping there and it’s an ~exclusive lot~ (as my friends were the more affluent of the group of us, which shouldn’t matter regardless). We talked about it and opted to go shop elsewhere: not a safe environment for poc, beside the fact they an exclusive lot in downtown pdx is laughable.
This location is my favorite of all the NSM in PDX! I recently worked with Nate in the Deli Dept to cater a lunch for 40 and the team is a great job. I also appreciated Antonio who helped me with a billing error. I will definitely use this team to cater again soon. They are thoughtful, accommodating and supportive, and the pricing is incredibly competitive to Elephants, etc. Be mindful that you are responsible for sourcing your own servewear (tongs, plates, napkins, forks, etc), but their team does platter things for you!
Even before inflation, the prices for some products at this store are insanely overpriced. And that’s compared to the same product at “Whole Foods.” New Seasons prices make Whole Foods look like a Black Friday sale. And the quality is the same or worse than Whole Foods. I completely understand that in the Pearl District, nothing is cheap. But some of this stores overpricing is flat out obnoxious. Plus the store clerk here was kind of snooty. Luckily there’s a Safe Way, Whole Foods, and Fred Meyer just blocks away.
My favorite New Seasons metro PDX grocery store. Great selection of better quality grocery products, excellent selection of beers and cider. Decent wine selection, good produce and wonderful baked goods for a grocery store. Good selection of chocolate ( major food group!) and a decent variety of ready to eat foods and snacks. A bit on the spendy side but courteous, friendly and knowledgeable staff more than make up for the somewhat higher prices. Parking can be an issue in Slabtown so walk , ride or bike!
I've enjoyed every trip I've made to this location, but the last one was the best. While I was there, a guy wandered in without a mask on. The store team swooped down on him en masse, and even provided him with a free face covering. When he refused to wear it, opting instead to start cursing and spitting on the floor, they escorted him out quickly and quietly. It was beautiful to watch, and it made me feel safe and appreciated. Thank you, New Seasons. You've earned a customer for life.
Great customer service all around this store. It's always a positive vibe when I go here to shop. They let me know what is on sale and how I can save money. Clean aisles and shelves are full and organized. Meat area is nice and fresh. Inside and outside eating areas to just sit, eat and chill with shade. Definitely make sure to download their app to save on items. Prices can be a bit high at times. All the cashiers have the best customer service and always have a smile when I come.
This was our first time at New Seasons and we were quickly greeted by Ashley We are from Dallas and have NEVER had an experience like this at a market. Ashley not only answered all my questions- she explained where the fruit was from(different local farms) and pulled out her knife and started cutting so we could taste take a look at my basket!!! This produce is some of the best I’ve ever tasted!! And Ashley is a GEM✌️
Really, wonderful customer service. Not just once, not twice but every single time I visit to grab some groceries. My two year old can be terrible at times (jk, just terrible twos). New seasons reps have offered some free fruit to help keep him tame, lol. They also have great products, from food and beverage to household cleaning and skin care. Wonderful place to shop, this New Seasons in particular is THE BEST.
This store is perfectly positioned in the Slabtown neighborhood. Residents of the surrounding apartment complexes that are being built will certainly benefit. It's close enough to the Pearl to make it a worthwhile trip. The staff is extremely helpful and pleasant. Great beer and wine selection. The butchers are knowledgeable and enthusiastic when answering questions. I highly recommend this location.
Waaaaaaaaaay overpriced. Amy's Frozen? 9.00 each. Nope. I avoid this store completely. Edit...lol...now Amy's is *on sale. Haha. Anyway...just went to Trader Joe's right down the street from this New Seasons, 3/4 to full bag: 21.00. Yup. 21.00. I'll be at Trader Joe's more often. Oh, and the emphasis on friendly service? Trader Joe's employees were very friendly, and more genuine, less uptight.
Absolutely the best ride in town. If you can survive the poor service, the out-of-stock items, the stale deli food, the questionable produce and deli items, the absurdly high prices - then you should have no problem finding another market. I would highly recommend this store to all my friends. And, I understand that every other Thursday, you can bath and shampoo your favorite employee.
I just can't figure out why this place is so highly regarded by so many. Honestly I just don't see it. Much of what they sell is way overpriced and when I've been there it felt very cluttered and overly packed with stuff. I find more value, better prices and a much better selection of organic produce at Trader Joe's and a much nicer atmosphere and a more welcoming environment.
Fresh produce good selection in meat department hot and prepared foods salad bar cheese Assortment bakery. Edited 10 /27/2022 sad to see the self checkout no one wanted this you can say customers did but no one wanted that and now no fresh made sandwiches only old premade air dryed and soggy sandwich is only option well guess it will be trader Joe's from now on really sad
I’ve been regularly coming to this location since I moved here 6 months ago, and I had few complaints until late. I popped in recently to quickly grab a couple items, and I was accosted by an employee who seemed to be accusing me of shoplifting. I understand that crime is an issue in the area, but this just isn’t a good way to deal with it (or retain customers).
Pretty good if you don't mind paying top price for food! This particular location is a pretty small store, and lately they've been out of quite a few foods l typically shop for... Hopefully that will change. The store manager is amazing - friendly, good natured, understanding if you have a return! Just excellent customer service!
The store is nice... very trendy. Great deli and bakery. They have a DELICIOUS hot breakfast bar. I was also really impressed with their public restrooms. Unlike almost everywhere else, you don't need a code for the door and they actually have like 6 or more private restrooms. The free feminine products were a nice surprise!!
Parking during many times is frustrating. If you find a parking space it is narrow and difficult and time consuming to navigate. Be a comparison shopper if your are so inclined. The major grocery chain prices are somewhat lower. However, the variety and convenience of this store may override the previous comments.
Typical great New Seasons market. Nice selection; excellent quality. This particular location is home of the famous COVID protocol enforcement cashier. If you can make it thru her lane without getting “counseled”, then you likely exceed any implied CDC recommendations imaginable. Worth it for the experience.
It's a New Seasons, solid selection great beer/wine choices. The bakery, cheese, deli counters are all very nice quite a selection. As a grocery store in general a bit on the smaller side, but still has probably 85%+ of what you need. Although prices are a bit higher than say Safeway or Trader Joe's.
Always always always very kind staff, great fresh foods and salads in their deli, amazing cakes too, great cheeses and smaller taster pieces, the best rosemary focaccia I’ve ever had. Big space, some parking spaces but not too many. Only negative is always it is expensive, but you will get quality!
Never going back. This place is so expensive for not a lot of benefit. No more sandwich bar, people just hover to watch you bag your own groceries, no longer locally owned, often allow tables outside for people to harass you as you walk in and sometimes downright rude workers. I’ll walk to Safeway.
Great place to pick up groceries all natural and organic products are found here as well as an amazing meat section it's worth coming in just for that. They also have a huge selection of CBD products in the health and beauty area. Great frozen section as well impulse isles are hard to resist.
Love this new season! Staff is friendly and helpful, products are of good quality and reasonably priced. Lots of fresh and healthy options. The location is especially nice, walking distance to lots of business. There is a big courtyard outside and across the street with places to sit.
I love this location. The florist went out of her way for me a couple months ago, as did the bakery when I needed last minute cupcakes for a staff birthday. All the staff is kind and go out of there way, actually. Like all new seasons, the selection is so good and everything fresh.
Was hoping to get a premade deli tray for a get together at work & they don't have any; however, the lady at the deli counter made one for me. I just told her how much I wanted to spend & she created a beautiful tray w/ nice selection of meats& cheeses. I was pleasantly surprised!
I am vegan, so I LOVE shopping at New Seasons Market! They offer an incredible selection of vegan products at even more incredible prices. Plus, their store has "a great community vibe" to it -- with all of the helpful, friendly employees and all of the healthy, happy customers!
New customer since day one and loved it! Current management and current employee staffing specifically is bitter and unservice oriented. If your management team doesn't pull the nose up I project you'll be out of business this time next year. Petty staff needs to be retrained.
I am in love with this place. Clean, friendly, the food is all amazing and ecclictic. Jon the manager hooked my friend up with a lunch sized container of guacamole for my friend and I to have with our lunch, because all they had left was the big containers; very accomidating!
It was nice and it was it was big had to outdoor garage and had a lot of fresh food one thing I just didn't care for it much was the prices were a little bit over which you normally would pay but that's what you get with good quality I guess
You know New Seasons is an excellent grocery that I love shopping at. But recently prices has skyrocketed to the point where I may not come back.I realize inflation is rampant but NSM seems to be really aggressively raising prices. Its now
The selection is good, similar to Whole Foods but better in some ways. When it gets busy some staff seem to be dismissive about inquiries, I even had one guy at the cheese bar give me incorrect instructions as to where an item was. which I
When this place opened I heard a lady say "this is the best day of my life". Now whenever I go here I can't stop thinking about how crazy a statement that is. What, has nothing good ever happened to you lady? Have you never found $.83 on
This store is a delightful mix of fresh and delicious produce and products along with a fantastic staff/shopping experience. I've felt safe going here during the pandemic, and I can't say enough about the fruit they source!! Delicious!!!
Staff were fantastic. Everyone including customers being careful baggers checkers cart cleaning dude all super on top of things. Also this is a really well stocked NS, It was a dream compared to a safeway or the Fred Meyer near my house.
This New Seasons placed in the heart of the Slabtown district is one of the best locations to get some great groceries (if you can afford it because man it's expensive!). The interior is pleasing to the eye, the fresh produce available
I had my bridesmaid's bouquets done here by Mikhail and they turned out amazing! He also did an amazing job when my bridal bouquet (created elsewhere) turned out different than expected. One of my bridesmaids took it to him last minute
I’ve been shopping at this location since it opened. A couple of months ago, I parked my car in their lot, went in, bought a coffee and then some breakfast. I lingered in the cafe, as I have many times before, and then did my grocery
Overwhelmed my first visit.. but salad bar was what I needed today. Slick and well appointed like many San Francisco and Seattle co-ops. Friendly staff and most items im accused to. Produce overpriced but other departments reasonable.
Eat in, carryout, get some fresh groceries or gorgeous flowers in a happening scene. What's not to love? Okay, maybe parking. But, I had no trouble getting a spot up front during rush hour this evening. It's a medium-sized store,
I am a regular customer at New Seasons Slabtown store. I get wonderful, generous customer service from the staff, which I so appreciate. The produce department is especially nice, offering samples always. The sampling desk by the
A nice selection, they have a bit of everything. I will say though, you're going to pay for quality here... BUT, most of their items ARE of high quality. Fruits/veggies, meats, cheeses, deli, bakery... All super premium …
This store has the freshest cookie bar in the New Seasons chain. I regularly see they stock the cart with new cookies and they have this one brand of oatmeal chocolate chip which is the best and no other store seems to carry.
Well stocked market, super friendly staff. A bit more expensive than other local grocery stores but do keep an eye out for the sales (BOGOs). They have a nice bulk bin section and I love that they are a Certified B Corp.
Expensive but very clean store. Good fresh produce. Dress very nice and don't wear a backpack and you will experience good customer service. Wear a backpack or come in after work with dirty clothes. Prepare for the worst
This place is awesome as always. Great selection of all types, friendly staff and close to home. Also, this February of 2022, I won the in-store raffle and got a brand new Ninja Pro Blender! Im so blessed and grateful!
I like this store. There is usually a parking spot. They carry local strawberries and peaches in season and I love that. Prices are high of course, but I would go here over Zupans because the staff is more friendly.
Very very overpriced!! The bargain items on discount are a steal for sure. Always dropped by to hunt for discounted produce/juice/frozen food. Keep your eyes peeled. staff are lovely too, very upscale supermarket.
Respectful and friendly staff. (Woodstock location should take note...) Great selection of local hard ciders and seltzers. Tell coach that the nice guy behind the meat counter won't make the team this year.
This is my favorite grocery store in the neighborhood, especially since Food Front shut down. It can definitely be pricey, but the fantastic produce from local farms is often completely worth it!
Smokers Allowed. It's embarrassing to complain about someone smoking by the front door, but it's more embarrassing to be ignored by store employees who won't do anything about it.
First time new seasons, but probably not going back? It was horribly expensive but the store was clean and had nice displays. We bought olives and cheese selection was nice too.
While traveling, we wanted some yummy, healthy treats to stock our room and here was New Seasons, just a couple blocks away. Yay! Always good things in store at New Seasons.
Super fun grocery store. Always well stocked. Friendly staff. Amazing cheese display. And a fun pedestrian zone right outside. Parking plentiful.
Excellent selection of beer rotation on tap, smaller wineries & infinitely great deli summer update. One of the best locations.
Just like whole foods. High quality grocery store when compared to others so expect a premium price. Service is great too.
Great grocery store! They even have lots of fresh pre-made food, I personally recommend their cheeseburgers. …
I really like New Seasons. Clean, nice employees, good food and a nice place to sit and have a cup of coffee.
OK -- If your in ah pinch & need something quick -- otherwise it's the most $High-Dollar$ Market I know of !
Great market. Friendly helpful staff. Well stocked and very Clean . Great food options in deli department.
Really delicious market, but watch your wallet! Things are really expensive here, and parking is limited.
Really nice place. Just walked thrift while visiting my daughter. Very nice produce and deli section
They seem to be out of meat items in the meat department. The sandwiches don't look too appetizing.
Lots of quality groceries, overpriced, but that's life. Friendly staff, and quick checkout.
My Favorite grocery store! Friendly employees, locally sourced food and B Corp certified!
Go to place for bulk spices, herbs and loose tea. Clean do it yourself measuring station.
Okay store, if you want to buy new seasons esq items thats what they have there
Wonderful local store, very welcoming, great set of items, and not expensive.
The employee are very friendly, well informed about products in the store
Great staff, tons of fresh veggies and ingredients l, ovely deli case
Amazing grocery. Super nice but ZUPANS neat hands down takes the cake
Big New Seasons but more expensive than those outside the city.
to be expected ...very clean great staff And good parking
Helpful workers, a nice shopping experience.
