This is my go-to place for all kinds of ethnic foods from Asia, Africa and Europe. Among the interesting stuff one can score here are a few types of phyllo pastry (Greece and Turkey) , many kinds of buckwheat and canned fish and mushrooms (Russia, Estonia, Poland), all sorts of Middle Eastern produce and prepared foods, freshly baked breads and a slew of exotic dairy products such as Ryazhenka, Lebni and Kashkaval. Hands down the best choice of Feta cheese, both local and imported. Produce is OK but not great although there are items that you won't normally find in other stores like for example bulgur and some rare fresh herbs. Butcher has cold and hot smoked mackerel from Norway, which are one of my favorite dinners with some potato salad. Decent quality lamb and goat cuts for curries and North African specialties, and you can find all the spices needed for that as well. Essential spot, really.

Great little gocery store, but even greater fresh bread section. It is mesmerizing to watch the baker and his crew in operation, churning out a huge volume of fresh, tasty, flatbreads, pitas, and other treats in real time. There is often a line of customers waiting patiently for the next batch of too-hot-to-handle bread tossed from a wooden paddle straight from the oven into wooden bins. There is a small lunch counter that serves great food, including a terrific and HUGE chicken shawarma sandwich with a price too low to mention. Well worth going out of your way, even if just to see the bakery in operation. But get a shawarma while you're there! There is usually a mobile grill outside the front door selling freshly grilled shishkabobs - that will be my next stop.

I agree about the feta cheese. I have never seen so many choices in one place. North Park Produce on EC Blvd has a flavor and a price for feta that will meet anyone's needs. I'm on a quest to try them all :-) There are many Middle Eastern grocery items, including a humongous selection of oils from olive to avocado; and lots of well-priced produce. But my other favorite part is the kitchwares section. I bought a huge glass teapot for a very low price. My neighbor loves the demitasse coffee sets. I bought some stainless steel bowls for a bargain, also a stainless colander, and a yard-sale priced brand-new ceramic coated lemon squeezer. And the wall of spices is a thing of beauty :-).

UPDATE: It's been 3 years since the review below and I have brought my car to them for all my car repairs since. They are the best and truly amazing. They actually tell me not to worry about items or wait longer before repairs when they could have the business and when they do give you suggested repair, they give you their honest opinion with no pressure at all. They are the only mechanics I fully trust! Original Review: The prices are unbelievably low...worth a drive to stock up. I don't go there with a shopping list...some of their produce might be a bit past prime, but I always get plenty of fresh items very very cheap.

They have two cashiers Stephanie and May who need some training about customer service because they are the worst in dealing with customers. As soon as you approach them they just say: "Do you need a bag?" No greeting, no smile, no thank you, nothing. Even robots greet you and thank you for your business. These cashiers are unfair as they treat customers differently. If they have good management, they wouldn't have behaved that way, but the store management itself needs training about customer service. So the reason is the poor and uneducated management they have. Bad employees and bad management.

  • Fields B

Bad customer service. A cashier named Sandra needs some training about how to be nice, fair and friendly with customers. She needs to change her nasty attitude if she wants to continue working there. Because of this rude and nasty employee, I have to think twice before going shopping at this store. All customers want to be treated with respect such as greetings and pleasant words so that they can have the appetite and desire to come back. Probably the store management doesn’t care about customer service and the future of their business that is why everything is out of control.

  • Andrew A

I would give them only one star for the following reasons: 1- Awful customer service. Most of cashiers are rude, impolite and unprofessional. 2- Long waiting line. Sometimes you have to wait for a long time to check out. 3- Small and dirty parking lot. 4- Poor quality produce. Sometimes I see old, dry, and rotten fruits & vegetables. 5- Cashiers sometimes make horrible errors by charging you twice. 6- Cashiers treat customers unfairly. 7- The worse is the owner does nothing to fix the above mentioned problems. The solution is: Boycott them. Eventually they will close.

  • Sab R

Customer service is getting worse every day. They have a new cashier whose name (in the receipt) is Nazar. He doesn't know what customer service is. So arrogant and has a bad attitude. He never greets customers or says any pleasant or welcoming words as if he's a dumb person. Come on, dude! What do you think you are? Are we buying stuff for free? We're paying your wages? If not the customers, you'll be out of work! Just be humble and treat customers with respect and welcoming attitude. Be nice so we can buy your meat and rice!

  • Jay Goldberg

Good place, the roasted chicken is the best in Sd. But during the pandemic was pretty pathetic: triple vax here. I'm not going to wear a face mask anymore, half your staff is not even wearing it properly. No one is enforcing this, state employees are not coming in and checking. It is your choice to say anything about it vs shutting your hole. Knock it off. "Through public records requests, NBC 7 learned that not a single fine was collected by San Diego County officials through mask mandate enforcement."

  • Calton Tamim Abassi

Good place for what it is. If you buy lots of vegies and fruits, you can save about 75% on equally fresh produce to major supermarket. The veriety of imported specialty foods also makes this place a good choice for the frugal, the cultured, and the budget shopper. They are not "Saks or Neiman's" people. We are so used to that phony friendliness in retail that we lose sight of value and availability of rare products this place offers. $9 for cherries at Ralph's comes with a fake smile.

  • Isla Ogaz

Great place me and my family loves the kabob and Shawarma is so delecous the meet so tender and the spices are so good We always come back to it the cashiers very kind and Irespectful! defenelly recomend this place! Also try the dates Madjol and walnuts with tahina mmmmhmh I am just waiting for the soecial on the Madjol dates..I love the ARZ yougurt is the best yougurt I've taste and health wise is exelent ! Great selection of cooking oils and the tea oh wow love them all!

  • Darya Shestakova

We've been there a lot of times. It's not the cleanest place for sure, but not the dirtiest as well. They have a good selection of Mideastern and Eastern European goods, not pricey at all. I've never seen any stuff to be rude. Probably you just need to know that some people (nations) are less emotional to strangers, they don't smile as much, but it's ok. Don't think if they have different customs and background, they're rude to you. Baked stuff and kebobs are very tasty!

  • Lindsay Meade

The parking lot is small. I have been to the one in El Cajon and it has a larger parking lot but it is in El Cajon (no thanks). I like this place because of all of the cheeses it has and the chicken here is really good too. I don't know why their chicken tastes so much better from here but they truly have awesome chicken. Service, there is room for improvement most definitely but the prices are really good. and that outweighs the negatives by far.

Came to San Diego for a week so we needed a Halal meat store. They had an overall good selection. They also had prepackaged to-go kebab plates which was cool. I asked one of the employees if all the meat was Halal and was told it was but when I came back 2 days later to get some deli slices I noticed the cold cuts were not! They also sold pork products which I haven't seen a Halal store stock. Place was clean and staff was friendly over all.

  • Peter F

I went here specifically looking for Indian paneer cheese; found it! Nice selection of Russian foods, Middle Eastern yoghurt drinks, international spices - in brief, many "off-beat" items you won't find in a typical USA supermarket. Not much "produce" for a produce store, but this store compensates thru interesting variety. Prices somewhat high, but nice not driving to Kearny Mesa or Mira Mesa for international foods.

  • Adam Engelhart

Rude and ignorant employees especially the cashiers who are uneducated about customer service and I blame management for that because they just don't care. If they do care, we wouldn't see such bad attitudes and unprofessional behaviors on the part of these employees. Cashiers are supposed to be nice and friendly to everyone but in this store most of them are rude and unfriendly.

  • sanju stones

Very good store with Indian, Asian, Mexican and Middle -east produce from vegetables, prepared foods, spices, snacks, Dals and variety of tea products are available. Fresh Halal Chicken and Lamb along with sea products are special. They also have a kitchen inside the store making fresh tandoori Naans, gyros, famous Falafel inside the store is highly recommended .

  • Brenda Corona

Attn: Check your reciept! My dad got charged $44.62 for cucumbers which in the reciept showed as cherries. We had to drive over to get our money back. They should have given us the full amount but gave us back $40. The manager check out my dad and he used his employee cashier which is not right. The manager didn't apologize, his employees had to do it for him.

  • H Trang

Gross! Found so many bugs inside of my red bell peppers (see picture) I’m not sure why this is surprising to me seeing as this store has ALWAYS had bugs, flies, etc. flying around the produce and whatnot. I was always soak any produce I rarely- (thank God) purchase from here in warm water and a drop of vinegar (I would recommend you do the same)

  • Mack E

Was so excited to find this market near my home after 22 years of living here. Menu for to go sounded so exciting I couldn't wait! I order the ribeye skewer plate that says it includes Hummus. I get home to find pickled veggies replaced the Hummus. Very disappointing!!! If I had known I could have purchased Hummus separately. May never go back.

  • Damon Hull

This is my local grocery store and I love it. Produce is very inexpensive here and I often find something interesting that I had never used before. Add to that a fresh meat counter, bulk bins, and deli counter with at least 15 varieties of fetta cheese and NPP has all you need. Plus they treat me like a valued customer on each visit.

  • Crissy Leen

Truly enchanted with their variety and freshness of all their meals. Today we got Gyro Sandwichs, yummy homemade humus that we already tried and came for more, lentils soup, pita bread and some other delicious specialities. Just found out also you can order delivery which is just perfect. Btw talk about variety of pita bread!

  • al cesar

The people who manage and/or attend the store never say hello Or say a nice Welcome word. They show kind of dry personalities. Maybe they can receive some training on being a more welcoming staff and owners included . Even at Walmart they have someone in front entrance saying welcome to Walmart and those are huge stores.

  • Marilou Hobrock

Excellent meal specials and delicious soft warm bread! Prices are reasonable! The prices and produce are outstanding. I enjoyed eating at the new tables so that I could eat the lunch special of chicken and beef kabobs right away! Friendly and fast service! It's a gem of a place! Our Lady of Fatima, triumph and reign!

  • Miriam Iosupovici

I go to North Park Produce for their store-made Babaganoush, Bulgarian Feta, peeled garlic and huge gallon sized Kalamata pitted olives. Like their produce and ethnic products. There is hot food to take out, great prices. I love seeing ethnic clothing worn by the customers, too. Worth the drive from Imperial Beach.

  • Jala Kalas

This place is expensive n bad quality produce. This is the second time I buy bread from there and it came out very old that it can’t hold for a sandwich. And the price of three pieces is five dollars which is not cheap at all. Plus there is no expiration date on the bread bag. Shame people

  • Paulina Duran

Pretty nice variety of foods from around the world. It the first store where I see they have Capuccino Kefir and Lukum :) Homemade tzatziki, crema and babaganoush are also available :) There's a small parking at the entrance BUT the entrance is not on the main street, it's in the back.

  • Taco Emergency

This is my favorite new market. Fresh and affordable. Good blend of ripe and almost ripe veggies. Butcher onsite. Amazing cheeses from around the world. Dried Fruit, rice and dry bean bins. They also have a hot food counter with delicious kabobs, hand made flat reds and more.

  • Andy Simpson

Convenient grocery store because it's with in walking distance. Cashier's are always friendly and helpful. Great meat counter, pastries are outstanding. Pastries are filled with veggies, beef or chicken. Personal pizzas are a easy buy and heart for a quick lunch or snack.

  • Mukarram Amine

Great place to get produce, everything is fresh and delicious, and you can often find things (especially Arabic/Mediterranean) there that you might have difficulty finding other places. They'll even sell you things in bulk at a good discount without any fuss, if you ask.

  • Jack Fox

Stopped by the deli counter while waiting at the pep boys across the street and was very impressed! Excellent and well priced meats, bread was the most delicious Mediterranean style bread Ive had so far in SD. Will be back here for lunch next time Im in the area

  • k b

Fine food, spices and items favorable to Africans and middle eastern communities. I purchase rose water and fresh feta. Price is always good and items fully stocked. Parking is plentiful and disabled accessible. Quick grocery shopping to avoid supermarkets.

  • Denis K

Way too overpriced,I've been every other north park produce in San Diego along with other mideastern supermarkets but here everything seems to be %30 more expensive. $9 dollars for a Nabisco chocolate chip cookies??? I Rather drive Poway location

  • Lisa O'Toole

Produce quality is iffy. But lots of variety in greens and ethnic foods. It would get a 3 or 4 except the manager has decided not to allow WIC on Sundays, so impoverished people who have small children may be caught off guard and humiliated.

  • Brian Giguere

I used to love to go here but today's experience has turned me off completely. At least half the staff did not wear masks and about half the clientele did not wear masks. It's currently required by law. Did not feel safe and won't return.

  • Tolga Tolu

Unjustifiably expensive. If the reason is greed, the joke is on them: I used to shop there once a month and drop at least 150 each time. The past few years however, I've been there 7 times and didn't spend more than 85. You do the math.

  • Elif Oranli

Some people told me balboa int market is expensive you should go north park produce market. They are wrong here is so expensive, products became putrid, low quality. We bought just a few bags of product for 190$ never go again.

  • Cathy Homes

All things mediterranean can be found here, including authentic Greek feta. Their meat counter is one of the best with cuts you don't typically find in other grocery stores. Also, the spice and tea selection is fantastic.

  • Juan F Escobar Jr (All Media Glass & Metal)

Variety of products from around the world, fresh produce and friendly staff . But I see a lot of customers not wearing a mask, lots of stores don’t let anyone get in the store without a mask they should be doing the same

  • Goodealsd Goodealsd

I have been coming here for few years. Since new ownership took over a couple of years ago, this market shows now a great pride in its ownership. Thanks for having a great store with yummy Mediterranean taste products..

  • Drew Kroft

Broad selection of meats, cheeses, olives and fresh bread. Prepared kebabs, roasted chicken, rice dishes, and biyali make for quick inexpensive lunches and dinners. And of course, plenty of fresh produce.

  • mary botros

I had the worth attitude ever today from the girl who works in the deli 12/5/21.she is on the phone all the time. She wants to over charge me for a container for my order. Last time to shop in this store.

  • Christi T

Awesome ethnic store with Middle Eastern and African food. Fresh produce. Excellent fried whole fish and many fresh look sides. Delicious flat breads etc. Great selection of goat cheeses and olives.

  • Jared Jones

My favorite things: marinated feta, beef shwarma pack, greek salad, herbs selection, kalamata by the pound, bin items: walnuts, peanuts, bulgur, flour - the dried spices rack is very affordable too.

  • Hyden Termeh

This place used to was much better and had much better prices on the items but now it's so so but you can find a few items cheaper than else where . But most of the items prices are increased here

  • Joe Vaughn

Very tasty fresh choices are what I look for at their deli style counter. They always have fresh salads and hummus. Flatbread and kababs. Worth a try if you like the Mediterranean style foods.

It is not clean. Employees in general are not helpful and with attitude! Prices for many items are way more than the same items in other stores. Bread is good, hot food is not bad...
