I love the Ogden museum of southern art! I visit here all the time whenever I come to New Orleans. They are a decent size museum- not too small but not too big and overwhelming. Their focus on southern art is appreciated as it is clearly underrated. all the art labels are super informative and thoughtful and includes a silhouette of the state the artist is based in which is pretty cool. Barbara D came along with me to see the recent self taught artist exhibition and it is incredible!!! “100% must see!” We actually bought two catalogues on this subject before we left. A must visit locally conscious and critical experience 5 stars all the way! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Also this location takes the AAM membership card for two

A beautiful museum that's even larger than it looks from the outside! They have about five floors the top of which has an amazing view of the warehouse district and CBD area, however a lot of the art is more beautiful than even the view of the city from the top floor. It's also free to New Orleans residents on Thursday if you want to experience it for yourself and live in the city. I would recommend giving yourself about 2 hours and some music to listen to if you want to really experience it best.

Beautiful collection of mostly contemporary art through the decades! My group and I visited on the First Friday of the month where admission is free for college students. Highly recommend starting at the top floor, to the rooftop area to get a view of the city and working your way down. I loved that they had a lot of artist diversity in their exhibitions! A great way to spend a cloudy afternoon in NOLA! ️

The current best of show winner is some photographs of New Orleans streets and a Confederate battle flag on the ground. Although I understand this is a social statement, where is the artistical merit? The exhibitor doesn’t display anything he created, no skill, no artistic ability. Are prizes given only based upon political/social statements without any regards to artistical skills and standards?

Five floors encompassing a broad range of media -- photography, drawing, paint, glass, mixed -- periods from French colonial to yesterday, and styles from formal landscape and portrait to what appear to be children's crayon scratching. The common thread, besides their artistic merit, is a connection with our Southern states. I found the collection engaging and often surprising. Could definitely spend more time here.

Can't say enough for this under-sung museum. A few galleries of powerful painting and sculptures, all from artists raised in America's once confederacy. Most exhibited items touch on the slow life, the warm air and the long & famous struggles of the region. The artists range from 1900's to current, all were unknown to me, but their mastery stand up to anything in NY, Chi, Phil, Paris. Spend two hours here, to see something new and often inspiring.

I think this museum is really nicely organized and I liked the flow. The exhibits at the time (Aug 2022) want them most exciting to be honest. It's small, you can probably finish washing the whole thing in about an hour. I don't think it's worth the price of the ticket but I'm glad I went. I would visit again if I saw something interesting being shown.

It is always a pleasure to visit the Ogden. Great permanent collection and always interesting exhibitions. Plus the building is beautiful and an oasis of calm and cool. One of the two great art museums of New Orleans. The magnificent Patrick F. Taylor Library from 1888, designed by the Boston firm of Shepley, Rutan & Coolidge, successors of Louisiana-native H.H. Richardson, is part of the museum and can be seen during special events.
