Prepare to be immersed in the most beautiful Mass! A wedding in Westport in Kansas City, MO brought us to this Church on Sunday morning...It is breathtakingly beautiful and we were warmly greeted at the door by their Permanent Deacon who visited with us about the Church. Mass reminded me of my childhood with all the candles lit as for a High Mass, incensing of the altar and celebrants, and the beautiful vestments and formal black birettas worn by the priests. The Mass parts were chanted in Latin, and everyone joined in. That doesn't often happen in Catholic Churches. The other thing that impressed me so much was that the Altar Servers all kept their hands folded or resting on their legs at all times. No tennis shoes, no fidgeting, no forgetting duties, etc... They knew that they were attending something very sacred and acted accordingly. Communion rails were used to distribute the Eucharist which brought a feeling of humility and piety to such a Sacred Offering. The Pastor gave a great homily that had been well prepared. After Mass, everyone recited the Chaplet of Divine Mercy as Our Lady of Good Counsel is the designated parish for their Diocese. The deacon told us that they have relics of St. Faustina and St. Pope John Paul II which both have prominent places in the Sanctuary. I left the Church with a renewed reverence for the Holy Eucharist and all that is Catholic. God bless you all!

Always a place of solace when we return to KCMO. For that matter has always been a place of solace where I can go & know that there will be no distraction from what matters most, Christ himself on the altar. The music is beautiful & adds to the reverence of the Mass. Holy priests with slam dunk homilies inspire Mass goers to live their lives in accordance with the true teachings of our Lord & of His Church- never to fear that which seeks to undermine our faith, but instead to remain peacefully & prayerfully stalwart against it. Monsignor Blacet provides the utmost example of this & its no surprise that it flows down through the people continuing to invigorate them! An amazing story of a priest sent to close a church & retire, but instead he revived a treasure & attracted people young & old from hours away. Now, it is the Diocesan Shrine of Divine Mercy & can never be closed... Needless to say, it is a very special place to sit & spend time with our Lord! I encourage everyone to visit when they come to KCMO- amazing doesn't begin to describe it :)

Middle 1950 I attended this school grades 1,2,and part of 3rd. We lived at 810 w 38 St.corner of 38th and Madison. My father was working at Ford Motor Co, white collar job, mom was house maker. Church had party function in the basement, step on Nuns skirt even to this day her eyes just cut thru me. Dad passed in 2012 mom lives with her daughter my sister in Strawberry, AZ- 110 miles north of Phoenix, AZ. My wife of 41 years and I are both retired our three sons are doing well, served on US Navy submarines and member of first crew of Hospital Ship- USS Sanctuary AH-17- M Division - evaporators.

Careful when requesting a meeting for newly engaged couples that want to marry in this Catholic Church. The lady in charge of receiving couples didn’t congratulate or say she was happy for them all she wanted to know is if they were tithing… how UN CHRIST LIKE!!! She didn’t try to work with them or welcome them instead made them feel embarrassed and unworthy. What a great start to the Rite and Blessing of marriage. No worries my friends will move on and will pray for that sad judge-mental person in charge at Our Lady of Good Counsel.

We happily travel from southern Johnson County to attend Our Lady of Good Counsel. I was looking for a Mass that is true to what Vatican II intended and I believe we've found it. Reverent music, Latin is woven in, Communion rails, and incense. If you are a woman who veils, you won't be alone. The parishioners are friendly and the teaching is at the same time traditional and relevant. Couldn't ask for more....except for a parish like this to be located closer to home!

Confession'll take forever to get in. Parish has it's extremist nut-case types peppered in with the rest. Our Lady GC is not a typical parish in that it's a commuter parish; parishioners who attend can rarely claim to be mid-town residents. People commute here, though, because one can rest assured that the liturgy will consistently be offered in adherence to the rubrics, often including the priest facing the same direction for the rite as the congregation.

Attended the 4 PM vigil mass on a Saturday. Beautiful, Liturgical music. Priest reverently celebrated the Mass according to the Roman missal. When I thanked him, he commented “you’re welcome. I just pray what the church gives me to pray and in the manner in which she asks me to.” …

If you’re looking for a devout, pious, Catholic Church that holds dear the teachings of the church, this faith-filled parish is it. Add to that the graces of the Divine Mercy Shrine, daily Eucharistic adoration hour, and daily confessions!

Beautiful Church, wonderful people, and a great traditional mass with Latin & English. They offer many mass times, including 3 on Sunday, and have a great RCIA if you are curious to learn more about the Catholic Church.

For a solemn Mass experience that delivers outstanding homilies and sermons...this peaceful and reverent church exudes the presence of our Lord and savior.

You won't find a more beautiful Novus Ordo mass anywhere! This is how mass should have been celebrated after the Second Vatican Council.

We just became parishioners! Our first visit here was so random, but we were blown away by the reverence of the mass and the music.
