Exceedingly Excellent service!!! I have a 2007 Mazda 3 that kept making a rattling noise for the longest time. I took my car to Pep Boys, the Mazda dealership and another mechanic and none of these people could figure out the problem. In fact, they gave me different reasons which were totally not the problem so I decided to do my own research. I thought it was the sway bar links so I bought the parts and I took my car to Sam. Well after I told him the issue he took the time to inspect my car. After a few minutes of searching he found the problem!!! It was such a relief after having driven my car with that annoying sound for such a long time! Sam then took the time to fix the problem which were the brake pads that I had paid over $600 to the dealership to be installed. A piece of the pad had broken off on both sides of the back. He was able to successfully repair the problem and in doing so relieved me of so much stress! Sam is by far, the greatest mechanic I have ever encountered in the 10 years I have had my car. He cared enough about me and my car to get my problem fixed and I truly appreciate him. I don't tend to meet very many mechanics who do such a great job as he did. Some mechanics would not have taken the time to inspect my car for the problem as Sam did and would have replaced the sway bar links knowing there was nothing wrong with them. Sam told me there was nothing wrong with the sway bar links. If you're looking for an awesome mechanic who cares about your car and does excellent work, Sam is the man!

This is the first time I write a review for a mechanic shop and I barely write reviews but when I do, it is when a service truly impresses me Sam's Auto Shop delivers an exceptional and honest service. We moved down to SA not too long ago. Our car was a hybrid and we were in search for a good mechanic especially for hybrids. And we found Sam. When we first went there my goals when I look for a mechanic were: -reasonable price -quality car service -honest feedback Sam surpasses all of them. His prices are unbeatable anywhere! He is the owner of the shop and he personally works on your car. He has the equipment and technology too. We don't mind driving 15 miles to go to his shop. He tells you exactly whats wrong with your car, and said that in 3-6 months the car won't be operational and he gave us the option to fix it from the bottom up or the other option to just buy a new car. He even said its not worth it if the price you pay to fix it will be higher than the price we paid for the car. This is when we know he was an honest business man. He didn't even try to sell one of his cars to us. We know for the years to come he will be our mechanic shop that we will go to. Now we got a new car but we are still going to him even if its not a hybrid. He answer all the questions no matter how many I asked. He gives straightforward answers. I wish more people know about his shop. I will continue to spread the word to my families and friends. He deserves all the recognition.

My car had both the BRAKES light and the ABS light on. I inspected the brakes and checked for engine leaks before taking my car to the dealer. No leaks anywhere. The dealer diagnosed my car and wanted about $3,500 to replace parts and fix my brakes. They agreed with me, no leaks were found, however apparently it was an internal leak that I could not see. My brother recommended Sam from SAM’s Auto Repair in San Antonio, TX because he is the best mechanic and he is honest. Sam diagnosed the problem. First, he quickly figured out part of the issue was that I had replaced the battery but the wrong kind. Sam suggested a plan and would do one step at a time to see if it fixes the problem and save the customer money: 1. Get original battery from dealer $250 (minus $50 for the core battery, which Sam provided for me, so $200 total). 2. Flush out the brake system and reset computer $300. 3. Replace parts if needed $1,000 total. Step 2 fixed my problem. So for I got my car fixed for $300 plus the $200 battery vs $3,500 at the dealer. The dealer just wanted to replace the expensive ABS system parts and charge for labor. The dealer said nothing about replacing the battery. Sam also suggested that if the problem came back then he would replace the part for less than $1,000 since he already performed step 2. I highly recommend Sam, an honest mechanic. I towed my car from Dallas, TX just to get my car fixed and I will do it again next time I have car issues.

About 3 years ago i went to a mechanic for a sound my truck was making. (2008 Ford F-150). That mechanic gave me a list of several things to fix for 900$. I was weary and started looking for another mechanic. I saw the reviews for this place and decided to try it out because of all the good reviews. Sam found the problem and fixed it, i paid probably less than 300$. I would have spent 900$ + and not even would have had the main problem fixed because that item was not on list from other mechanic. Just recently this past week ago my engine light came on and my truck was misfiring. Took it elsewhere that was closer to my house first and got shell shocked by the amount they wanted to charge me. I took my truck to Sam he immediately found all the issues in about 5 minutes or less no lie. I also saved good amount of money. I appreciated how he took the time on his own without me asking to explain and show me what was wrong with my vehicle. He called me and let me know my truck was ready unlike another location ive been who say they will call you when they are finished and don’t. I know he specializes in hybrids but if he is willing to fix my truck and take my money im willing to go there because he is very knowledgeable,honest and trustworthy and I feel is one of those rare places who go above and beyond for their customers. The owner of Sam"s Auto Repair was truly a savior for my family. I was helping my daughter move back to NC and hoping we could drive her Toyota Prius home to Raleigh. However, because the Master Warning Light (known as the Triangle of Death) was on, the dashboard lights were intermittently going on and off, and the air conditioner blower was sporadically working we thought we'd spend a bit more and take it to the Toyota Dealer since they are the "experts". Long story short, the car was at Cavender Toyota for 3 days and $400 spent and they didn't have a clue what was wrong except the low air in the tires. Things drastically turned around when I found Sam. He immediately knew what the problem was and after a day he had replaced the blower and another major part for the air conditioner, fixed the dash light electrical problem, replaced the head lights, the bumper that had been crunched, the grill work in the front, the engine splash shield, the back piece of the passenger side mirror and thoroughly checked everything out for a safe trip home. He even provided window vent shades for all the windows for free. This was all done for a VERY AFFORDABLE price. The car drove like new and we made it home without a problem. Sam even called to make sure all was good. All I can say is this, if you have a Toyota Prius, Sam's should be your best friend and definitely your mechanic. I just wish he was here in NC!

The BEST service you can get!! Sam deserves a lot more credit than what can be put into words in a review. He's honest, trustworthy, and experienced!! I found Sam (like some of you may be doing) through his Google reviews. My 2007 Prius red triangle came on suddenly while I was leaving work and within 2 minutes, I was unable to drive my car. After I turned it off and back on, I was able to drive it to North Park Toyota on 410. Long story short, they wanted to charge $1200 to fix an "issue." They also needed to order a part. I looked up local Hybrid shops and found Sam with over 180+ 5 Star reviews. I called Sam, he said he had the part and would charge less than half if that was the issue (even on the phone he knew that "issue" shouldn't be what cause my car to stop driving). I picked up my car from North Park and risked driving it to Sam's. With his expertise, he drove the car, listened to how the car drove all while monitoring the computer and explained possible issues to me while I was in the car with him. He went above and beyond caring and addressing the issue. He was able to solve the issue, advise me on further improving my car, charged me under $500, and till this day (about 5 months later) my car is running without any issues!! I'll continue to go to Sam's until he retires (and cry when he does). So if you want someone worth your time, trust (and money) - Go to Sam's!!

The most knowledgeable and generous mechanic I have ever dealt with. Sam goes above and beyond because he truly loves cars, cares about his customers, and just wants to take care of people. A year ago, my 2008 Prius battery started acting up and was in need of replacing. After hours of researching and calling around to get quotes, nobody even came within $2500 of Sam’s. Not only did Sam replace the battery but he also did extra maintainence to extend the life of the car and fixed my dashboard without charging. He also recommended that I get my water pump converter replaced in a few months because he could tell it would need to be replaced. He told me that if I bought the part, he would replace it for free. A year later and I finally get around to buying the part. Without hesitation Sam agreed to replace it for free even though this was communicated over a year ago. On the way to the shop, my check engine light comes on and guess what the problem was??? The water pump converter needed replaced just as he told me. I tried to give him money but he insisted that he just wanted to help. Truly thankful for such a skilled and kind hybrid mechanic. Makes owning a Prius in San Antonio a no-brainer

Sam is an honest and very knowledgeable mechanic. When I brought a Prius to him that I bought a few days earlier, that had the check engine light pop-up, and the engine was shaking, he told me that unfortunately it would be over $1000 to repair it. I was very disappointed to hear the cost and wanted to shop around, he said I was welcome to shop around at other shops but he warned that if I did most shops don't know what's really going on, and will charge me for unnecessary repairs, and often people who do that will come back to him after. Well I should've listened because sure enough another shop ended up charging me $800 for a repair that didn't work, and I brought it back to them and they said it was something else that would be $1600 through them, but I ended up having them put the car back together and change the spark plugs for $300, and I repaired the other thing myself for less than $100. And it still didn't fix the issue. I did end up bringing it back to Sam's and he was able to fix it like he said. I now trust Sam as my primary mechanic. Also changed my oil for $10 when I brought the supplies to him. He's awesome.

I'm glad I did my homework on who the best mechanic for me would be, Sam aka Dr. Prius. I was worried that I was going to have to buy a $4k battery because I'm sure if I had gone to a lazy, greedy mechanic they would've just told me to pay for it. Sam looked at the car and diagnosed the problem immediately--the inverter pump. It ended up only being $180 with parts and labor which was already inexpensive, BUT what was amazing was the extra effort they took. They cleaned the engine, fixed and replaced a broken tail light, cleaned the air filters, polished my fog lights (which look new now), basically went through an entire diagnostic on the car and sent me off with a small and very reasonable bill--AND no additional cost to the $180. Feel like I got my money's worth and then some. They do a great job over there and am going to recommend my friends to check him out--i bet he knows every car just as good as a prius. I trust him with my car and also know that he's a fair man--very happy customer and if my car has any problems, needless to say, I won't be going anywhere else. 10/10 Thanks again, Sam!

Today was my second time taking my Lexus to Sam's Auto Repair - the first fime was for the air conditioner not blowing cold air. Not knowing about car air conditioners, I was sure I needed freon added or a new condenser or something expensive like that. I brought it to Sam and he took a few minutes to check it out then told me it wasn't the condenser or freon, but I needed the air cabin filter changed and the AC fan cleaned. He did the work right there while I waited and what I thought was going to be a repair costing hundreds ended up costing less than $50 with filter included. Another mechanic could have easily changed me much more!! Today I brought the Lexus in for a complete brake system change including new drilled rotors, brake shoes, pads, a brake fluid flush. I sat with Sam in the 100-degree heat and he explained everything he was doing and why. What mechanic does that !!?? He really knows his stuff (quite incredible!), will tell you if DONT need something fixed, and charges an honest price. The best mechanic I've ever found!

Owner (me) has done considerable amount of car work over last 40 years, but lacks proper diagnostic equipment for this car, so sometimes at the mercy of auto repair shops. The patient, a 2007 Prius. Recent, frequent variety of warning lights and/or breakdowns. Diagnostics at Toyota dealer #1 determined nothing wrong. Really?! Diagnostics at Toyota dealer #2 determined need for new ECM, $1400 repair, with no assurance this would fix problem. Called several independent garages, no confidence inspiring conversations. Found positive reviews online for Sam's. Drove across town to scout the establishment. Looks can be deceiving. Don't let the appearance of the shop dissuade you. Speaking with Sam gave me the confidence to tow the car across town for diagnostics and potential repairs. Spent a small fortune, but the price was very competitive. (It wasn't the ECM). Having the work done by someone capable and committed to success was good for peace of mind. We've used the car daily for a month, about 400 miles, and all is well. Thanks Sam!

I was in San Antonio for a conference this week and my 2013 Prius started acting up on the 3-hour drive. Idling wildly and I thought it might be transmission related. I found Sam’s shop on google maps with impeccable reviews, so I decided to take my car the next day and see if something could be done. Let me tell you, Sam knows what he’s doing. He completed a full tune up within a day, and spent a significant amount of time with me explaining what he did, parts he replaced, and what I need to do to keep it clean and properly maintained. I drove the car home today, and not only is the idling fixed, I kid you not, gas mileage went from 38 to 48 mpg. Amazing. So thankful I found this guy at the right time, and for others leaving great reviews. He did a fantastic job for me, and knowing that I was not in the best position to negotiate he was honest, extremely helpful, and worked hard to fix the problem. One of the best customer service experiences ever for me.

Great, honest, professional and reliable work!! Sam is a great mechanic and a great person!! I have taken my vehicles to Sam for over 2 1/2 years and he always does the best work and is always fair. He goes above and beyond to explain and help you out. He figures out the vehicle problem, explains it and make sure that you are happy with the plan of action and works with you regarding cost. He’s always been more honest and more accurate than any mechanic I’ve paid to do work for me. Additionally, on one occasion my son got his tail light busted, I didn’t want to make an insurance claim since he is only 18 and didn’t wanna chance my insurance rate skyrocketing so I called Sam to ask for his advice. He graciously gave me a tail light for the vehicle free of charge from a vehicle of his own that was going to be salvaged. That’s a genuinely kind hearted mechanic & great person! My adults kids and I will continue giving Sam our business.

This is my very first review for a mechanic shop. I am not a fan of writing reviews but because Sam has shown me his quality work and service I am propelled to write one. The first, the most foremost ,and the most important value in my life is, honesty. Sam upholds that value: honesty. He has a wealth of knowledge about cars and I have no knowledge about cars but he does not take advantage of that. He delivers timely service. The other big branded auto shop's charged me more than $100 each visit for little issues. Even an air filter change was $45! When I could have bought the $15 air filter myself and install it on my own. He is not that kind of mechanic that purposely break things in your car so that you can keep coming back to get it fixed. Or a mechanic that tries to tell you that there is more problem than there already is. I am lucky to find a great mechanic. I am now a loyal customer.

Called one late evening to get price on getting my control arm done. He asked me if I could take it in for him to check if in fact it was the control arm. Did not charge me to check it and gave me advice on where to get the parts. Once I got the parts he was able to squeeze me in after work and did the job plus replaced cv axle and a lower control arm last minute. Great guy, great service, and great information. He warranties his work and is always helpful. All work done for less than $400 Sam specializes in Electric cars and gives those a priority. He is always busy with work, it is best to call and ask if he can work on your car or schedule a day to take it. No cars will be left overnight due to safety and liability. Again, this is the place to take electric cars if anyone is looking for a great mechanic but I appreciate that he took time to check my car, test drive it and work on it.

I don’t usually post reviews regarding mechanics. I haven’t exactly had the best of luck in finding honest, reliable mechanics. HOWEVER, the owner here is incredible. He’s honest, hardworking, and his prices are more than fair. I’m new to the area, and I had been calling around places to help me figure out what’s going on with my husbands a/c-heating unit. Everyone else wanted to charge me upwards of $100 just to LOOK at it. When I called this place and described what was going on, the owner told me a few different things it could be and said he wouldn’t charge me anything to look at it. When I arrived, he did a thorough inspection, provided me a new air filter, cleaned the area around the air filter and a/c motor blower for $25 bucks. $25 BUCKS!!! I am so grateful for people like this... He saved me so much money. We definitely found our new mechanic! Give this place a go!!!

Sam is probably the most honest and hardworking mechanic I have ever met in my life. My Kia Optima Hybrid shut down and wouldn’t start. After reading the reviews I towed it to Sam’s, he looked over it and got back to me lightning fast and told me that the issue was with the Hybrid Battery and that it was still under a 100k warranty and that I should take it to the dealer. Thanked him, tried to pay him for his time but he wouldn’t have it. Insisted he take something and I was on my way. Fast forward: Kia tries to charge me for the repair, called Sam and told them they wanted to charge me $$$ to replace the high voltage fuse. He said no, that’s part of the hybrid battery. I returned to Kia and they eventually agreed it was under warranty. Least I can do for this absolute legend of a mechanic is leave this review and basically beg you to take your car here, you won’t regret it.

We have a Toyota Prius (Hybrid) that had an electrical problem where the headlamp wiring was loose and exposed, This caused major problems where the entire wiring system in the Prius had to be re-wired. It’s hard to find mechanics that work on Hybrid vehicles, most mechanics will not work on them. We found out about Sam’s through the internet and he was available to work on our car right away. Sam is a very knowledgeable mechanic, he did a fantastic job on our hybrid vehicle and since we have not experienced any problems with our car. We thank Sam for his professionalism and honesty. My Prius had a problem with its hybrid battery and would not start. I took the Prius to a couple places but all of them told me that they did not have experience or the necessary tools to fix it. The hybrid battery for Prius is one of the most expensive parts of the vehicle. I heard about Sam's Auto Repair from my uncle who had done work on his cars in the past and highly recommended them to me. I called Sam and within a week my Prius was up and running again after being without a car for a month. Sam very clearly explained the problems and got my go ahead to proceed with the repairs. I was very fortunate to find Sam’s shop. He is extremely experienced, having worked in dealerships in the past. The service and value is far better than the dealership can offer though. Sam knows his way around cars, particularly hybrids, and is quick to diagnose the problem and clear in explaining the options for fixing it. He is an exceptionally honest businessman, recommending where to get the best parts, and warning that if you buy the part from him it will be more expensive than if you pick it up yourself. Years of Great Service! For years Sam has continually gone above and beyond what I have expected in servicing my cars. I am very much a “do it yourselfer”, but when I started having more complex problems with my first Prius I was fortunate to find Sam’s Auto. When I decided to purchase a second Prius with high mileage I knew I could count on Sam to help me keep it running. He just finished putting a rebuilt transmission in my third Prius and I couldn’t be happier! I have a combined total of almost 700,000 miles on my 3 Prius’ and I am looking forward to many more years of life out of these cars, mostly in part to the affordable and dependable service from Sam and his guys!

WOW! This is the place to take your hybrid. I was told by the toyota dealer my 2012 Prius C needed a new hybrid battery pack and would charge 4000 dollars to replace it. We found Sam's thank goodness. Yesterday he spent an hour with my daughter and I showing us how to replace crucial filters that apparently had never been replaced although the dealer said they had. He would not take a penny. We replaced the filters and the check hybrid battery light went off! Sam did tell us that if that did not work the battery would need replacement and his charge would be 1200 dollars. I cannot recommend this place enough! If you are having hybrid battery problems go see Sam's.

Sam has worked on our Prius for the past 3 years, I was on my to Austin when the car lost power. We had the Prius towed to the dealer and they wanted $4000 to fix it. We found Sam and he saved us $2600. I took my Avalon in for an oil change at the dealer, of course they do a check up on your car and let you know what needs to be fixed, so after I left the dealership who wanted me to spend $2000, we called Sam, took my car to him and let him look at the copy of what the dealership gave me to be done. After Sam looked over everything I am money ahead because nothing needed to be repaired. SAM is a wonderful MECHANIC, he is very hands on, he is someone WE TRUST!!!

Sam's Auto Repair located at 102 New Laredo Hwy, SA., 78211 is the BEST Auto Repair service in ALL of San Antonio. I live on the NW side of SA and drive all the way down here because he is worth the trip. He has proved to me time and again that he cares more about being of service than the money. Sam is the most honest and fair auto service repairman that I have found in all of San Antonio. I have referred others to him, and they always call to tell me about how fair and honest he was with them, too. Try him once, and you will see what I am saying is the truth and like me, you won't go anywhere else for service again. You will be happy you found Sam.

Sam is great! I had decided to go to him after reading other people’s Google Reviews. My Prius had flashed a code that prompted me to call the dealership where they told me I had to replace the ABS Actuator and quoted me upwards of $3k. Sam flushed and cleaned the engine and replaced my rear brakes and the pressure on the abs pump has normalized saving me from having to replace it for the considerable future. He was very thorough, explained everything to me, and saved me a lot of money on an unnecessary repair. He also left my engine sparkling clean. Definitely recommend him for auto repairs, and he’s great to talk to and learn from!

"Saving Sam" is a great way to describe Sam! He went above and beyond to repair my car. He took the time to carefully troubleshoot my vehicle instead of just taking a quick look and making up a bogus diagnostic just to take my money like most unreliable mechanics out there. Let me just say Wow!!! I was very impressed by how quickly Sam and Sean got my car up amd running. I took my non running 2014 Nissan Maxima to Sam and within 3 days he had my car running and told me exactly what was wrong with it.He was very reasonably priced too.I previously took my car to two other mechanics who had no clue what they were doing neither one could get my car started.The other two actually did more damage to my car.Sam is very knowledgable with cars and I was pleased with his fast and friendly service. I will not trust my car to anyone else and will definitely recommend him to everyone I know.

Unfortunately, most have had the experience of a bad mechanic. Either failing to fix the problem, charging exorbitant prices or upselling you for things you dont need. THAT IS NOT THE CASE HERE, Sam and his staff are the exception to the rule. They went out of their way to diagnose the problem with my vehicle, worked with me to find alternate transportation and above all ensured they were giving me the best price for the part and their service. When you deal with Sam you will immediately see that he has honesty and integrity when dealing with his customers and a true passion for his work. Highly recommend!

The best auto repair for Japanese cars ( Lexus, Toyota...ect ) and specially for Hybrid car is highly recommend. ask for Mr. Sam he will answer all your questions and he is an expert auto mechanic. I found him and Thanks for everything that you have been done with my car 2010 Lexus IS250C, the car running very good and boots crazy when speed up. Don't forget to ask him to restoration Fully removes haze and corrosion from headlight lenses of your car if need, he and his worker will do it for you and they have been done pretty good job for headlight of my car. It look like a grant new headlight.

I can’t say how much I appreciate this man’s knowledge and honesty. Sam is not out to get rich off of customers. I took my diesel truck to a few other shops and all they did was scan for problems and immediately recommended parts, with a price tag of $1400-$1800. Not satisfied with their diagnosis I found Sam’s and gave them a call. I could tell by talking to him on the phone that he was about fixing the underlying problem, not just replacing parts and calling it a day. Long story short, Sam found the problem and saved me over $1100 in repairs. I wouldn’t hesitate to take anything to him!

Sam did a terrific job on the engine tuneup of my 2010 Toyota Prius - for a fraction of what the dealership was charging! He was very informative and generous. He explained in detail everything he did to the car, which I appreciated. I had a dead battery and he could have sold one to me - but he refused. Since I’m from out of town, he insisted I find a company that offered warranty in my home town. He even gave me a free oil change, an extra filter, and a car charger! I wish I could find a mechanic as kind, helpful, and honest as Sam in my hometown. Highly recommend for hybrid repairs

I was looking for a mechanic shop to fix my car. I was having problems with my car it was overheating and losing all the coolant. I came across Sam's Auto Repair. He checked out my car and he told me it was the radiator. He actually showed me where the radiator was busted and leaking coolant from. He fixed my car the very next day. Since then i had to take it to him because my alternator went out and i had my car back the next day. He does very great quality work at an affordable cost. Even though he is very busy he makes time to get your car done quickly.

I had a broken radiator fan at 5pm, everyone else I called in the area gave me a several day wait time or didnt answer. Sam answered and told me to bring the car by, diagnosed it immediately, made some phone calls and was able to get the part, and me, back on the road within an hour for a third of the price of the dealership. Honest and kind man, even called me later that evening as I had a long drive to check in on my car. Note he is cash only for his own safety as a small business. Highly recommend, he got me out of a tight spot. Very thankful.

Sam’s Auto repair did an amazing job repairing my ABS pump, I had originally went to another place that was going to charge me over 2800 to fix this problem. I accidentally messed up my Prius, by jumping my car with the wrong terminals attached to the jumper pack. I took it to Sam at Sam’s auto, and the first thing I noticed was how many Prius’s he was working on in his shop. He quickly diagnose the process, and I can’t believe how well he took care of me! I just finished a regular maintenance item (ABS break system flush) for my 2011 Toyota Prius. At the dealership, I would have paid over $1,000! At Sam's Auto Repair, I got t done for a 1/3rd of the dealership cost! They flushed my Prius in no time and also changed the AC filter & replaced a missing hubcap. They are very friendly, have great service, very affordable and super fast! Sam is my new Prius mechanic for good!

My wife’s Prius was having the dreaded Brake Booster issue. When I called Sam he recommended trying to get the dealer to fix it as it’s been recalled. Unfortunately, the recall had been performed and was gonna cost 3K. Sam did it for 1200 and had it done by the end of the day. Once he was done he explained the work he did, and even talked to me about how to keep up with the car. Great job and would highly recommend.

I took my Ford Escape to the Ford dealership in Hutchinson, KS they said it would be $8,000.00 to repair. Sam's was able to recharge the battery for $500.00. Sam is very good at what his does. His diesel engine expertise is commendable. I took in my Diesel F450 and he was able to get it going within a week and the price he charged me was less than half of what other shops would have charged. I have a Chevy Equinox that was making a funny noise.Sam checked it out and found the issue right away. Instead of immediately offering to fix it he suggested to take it to a muffler shop to see if the part could be welded. It wasnt, so Sam ordered the part and had it fixed in 1 day. I took my Prius 2015 with a check engine light on. He found the water pump it was broken, and replace it in just few hours plus the oil change. Much cheaper and faster than in the Toyota service which it was going to take 7 to 10 days just to get the parts. We need more honest people like Sam in our city.
