Like so much on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City The Seville Light Fountain is modeled after our sister city Seville Spain. This exact replica of the Plaza de Los Reyes fountain in Seville, which was created by José Lafita Diaz in 1925 was executed by a commission to Sculptor Bernhard Zuckerman. The marble central shaft is 30′ (9 meters) tall with water flowing from the four masked faces also known as grotesques. The placement of the Seville Light Fountain next to the Giralda tower in not a coincidence but replicates its placement in Seville. My friends and I prefer this lesser known meeting place to the JC Nichols fountain just across the boulevard. Directly under the Giralda Tower we would often say “Can you see me know” as friends scan the busy crossroads of midtown KC.
What can we say around these parts? When it comes to the plaza, well, its the Plaaaza. Kansas City's sister city is Seville, Spain. The architecture of this area of town reflects that as seen in this fantastic fountain on the western entrance. Over 24 feet tall it has had water run through it before and would be spectacular in duo with its neighbor J.C. Nichols fountain across the way. The Seville Light Fountain helps make a grand entrance to an area of town we love to visit.
Super cool fountain and light. There's not much else to say here, except how cool it is. Walk around town and make sure you take a look for yourself. There are quite a few fountains in the area and a nearby park. Kansas City was a real treat. We will be back in a few years to see how it continues to grow.
Pretty fountain and sculpted light fixture in keeping with the Plaza's Iberian-influenced architectural theme.
