"The Smart & Final Express store within a mile of my house is becoming more and more my favorite store in a relatively compact space they have made an excellent selection of products both specific products for personal use and larger Warehouse Supply type items and I find their prices are quite competitive matching Walmart many times and always better than Target I say this is definitely a success I like it better than the former stores that were at that location and the Personnel are very helpful and courteous and I like the fact that they have the mobility carts I'm 79 and have trouble getting around and the mobility cart helps me shop more completely good job Smart & Final you've got a good concept here it should work in any location 40 years ago I was associated with Thrifty Mart the big red T and Smart & Final was our main wholesaler"

I would definitely recommend this Smart & Final Express to anybody
Do not work for this store, they are completely incompetent. My 18 yr old son got hired 3 or 4 weeks ago and has to call every day, mon-fri to try to get these people to process him so he could get started working. He called the person that hired him and HR daily trying to get them to do their job so he could start his. Last week hr kept saying that they were going to send him an email that day with his schedule and every day he did not receive an email so he continued to call. Today he called the store manager and was told he needs to take more responsibility. After getting the run around for weeks and being treated like trash they blamed him for them not doing their job. Needless to say my son is paying attention to these red flags and decided not to work for these unprofessional people. Do not apply here, they are a waste of time.
Their lines were overloaded with customers waiting to check out. They opened 2 extra lines and invited people in line to come over. I was on my bluetooth with a friend and didn't realize that I had stepped ahead of someone who should have gone first. The cashier, who was an assistant manager, made sure to let me know that I had committed a horrible crime. As a customer service manager, I can say with great confidence that this is NOT how to handle such a situation - you NEVER make your customers feel bad, especially if they unknowingly made a mistake. If I was in her position, I would have apologized on my behalf to the person that was cut off, and explained that I was oblivious to her due to me being on the phone. Rather than pay it forward, she has diminished her credibility as a "manager" for the store. Unimpressed.
I think I've mentioned in past reviews what an utter disappointment shopping here is. They have a poor selection in the best of times, but with the COVID situation they seemed to just let it run down. The frozen food selection is a disaster. They took what was a huge Albertsons/Hagens store and cut the floor space by at least a third. If you need a pack of 500 Styrofoam togo containers or a gallon can of queso cheese, they're the place to go. Everyday grocery shopping seems to secondary to their traditional warehouse concept. The only positive is that the staff is very friendly and helpful
The White Lady Cashier was very mean. There were two of them. They do not represent Mira Mesa who are generally friendly people. This store just became ghetto. All I want to do is shop and not let a store staff ruin my day with their unkind attitude. Very simple. Only hire nice and kind staff please in all of Mira Mesa. I never want my day ruined by negative people with a bad attitude and people who discriminate with passive aggressive actions (ignoring the customer). These staff only favor a certain group of people and treats everyone else like dirt.
My husband and I come here to get produce and other groceries for our house. We will no longer be buying produce here because 5 times we have been told that the meat choices here were fresh but every time we would come and buy we would smell a horrible odor in the car and not knowing what it was to when we get home we find out that the produce is not even fresh at all and it's actually expired! We have told people this and they brush it off and they keep giving customers expired meat this is unacceptable
On a late friday afternoon of a holiday weekend, everyone in the store was polite and wearing masks. I didn't see a single nose uncovered. Shoppers stepped aside to make room for others who needed to pass in the aisles. They backed out of the way with a smile if another shopper came down too close. The store was clean and tidy and well stocked. The employees were in a good mood. There were good sales on picnic items for the holiday. Always beautiful cut flowers. 10/10 would recommend
Nice selection and well stocked shelves but the single checkout line tempted me to give up on my mid-weekday visit. I've seen shorter lines for rides at Disneyland. It did keep moving and only(?) took slightly more than 10 minutes to reach the checkstand. The cashier confided that they have spent some time restocking items from abandoned carts. If you must save a few cents on your groceries and have the time, then I suppose it's worth the wait in this current stage of the pandemic.
I normally like this store but too many incidents are forcing me to rethink my options to where I start shopping at Vons again. Early mornings is not their strong suit. Employees hanging outside smoking, coughing, wiping their snot with their hands. Entrance doors that are difficult to open, some staff that seem emotional and grumpy. Some Customers especially here seem to be belligerent so I’m going to try stater bros or Trader Joe’s.
I like Smart & Final for the ability to find both standard size and " club" size products AND in comparison to other local grocery stores I can say that my costs are 25% lower. The service is great and the clerks are outgoing and helpful. The produce section is not the best, short life for fruits and vegetables when I get them home tells me not the freshest. Their house brand First Street has hits and misses. Always ample parking.
In general, I give stores props for staying open during this crisis but this location was just... meh. Sure, it was a Sunday at 8pm but come on -- ran out of hand sanitizer for customers to use while cleaning their own carts, the organic tomatoes were not fresh -- I'm looking at you, moldy heirlooms -- , the customer line was 8 people deep and they only had 2 registers open. *Sigh*
This is supposed to be a "warehouse" store where you can save money. Instead, they rip you off just like anywhere else. The cashier's are slower than molasses, rude, and do not smile or treat you as though they appreciate your patronage. Do not buy dairy, because by the time you get through the check out lanes it will have spoiled!
Looks great. Very friendly staff. Fantastic prices all the time! I'm just wondering why they are only using 2/3 of the building, the south 1/3 of the building is currently reserved to be another store called 'Home Goods'. Beware the fine print of must buy x amount. They need to make that print larger and perhaps red.
I like smart and final store ,for years and year , i and my family and my mom shopping from this store i love all it's shelves nice and easy ,prices are ecceptebl, to be honest some elder cashiers not helpings for begging, letting we all do by ourselfe . still i love 2 brother's shop finel and smart .
COVID means you cannot depend on stock being available; suppliers are not dependable. They have changed their checkout line, in response to Covid. But their prices are reasonable, and their selection includes larger sizes, and commercial supplies. I shop there regularly, and enjoy the experience.
They seem to be well stocked. Everything is clean, and I like the new checkout process. A single line, and you get "called" to the next cashier. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the aisles are just a bit too narrow. Two people can barely squeeze by.
You have to sit their and make sure every price is correct, because what it rings up is the final price, even if it says is on sale. And they do NOT help you fix their stupid system. F Justin. If you want to have a bad day. Come to smart and final.
Worst experience ever. All the dairy products they sell last no longer than a week. I consumed yougurt which was supposed to last for 15 days from the day I purchased it at the store and I fell sick. Please make sure you sell fresh dairy products.
Love that they have affordable flowers for the dinner table. The produce is great, party and baking isle on point but as a mom I wished they had a toy isle because I love bringing home non edible treats home to my kids...otherwise a great store!!!
Smart and Final, truly a smaller, faster warehouse. Good selection of meat, fish, vegetables/organic vegetables at competitive prices. Frequent weekly value sales. Large selection and variety. Clean and take. care of store in Mira Mesa.
I'm impressed with the cleanliness of the store! The prices on alot of there meats were amazingly lower then other grocery stores that I have been to. A great place to buy in bulk and to stock up on some of my now favorite items!
I like this store because they carry some items I can't find anywhere else. My favorite is the fresh squeezed orange juice machine! Yumm, it's the best! Once I tried it, I could never go back to a commercial orange juice product.
Used to be better, then they put in a ton of self checkout, and took out several regular registers. Now it's horrific to get anything. Only one or two registers opened, took 15 minutes just to check out. Skip it and hit CostCo
I always shop here. The “markdown” meat specials and fruit are my fav. Very clean store and the staff are always friendly and knowledgeable. My cashier today was so nice this morning. Always a pleasure at this location!
Thnking Covid19, I really like the way they have their check out process set up. One lane, 6' markings on the floor, plexi glass shields, best of all was they sterilizr the entire grocery conveyor belt! Excellent job!
Glad they opened up in Mira Mesa! A little bit more convenient than Costco and the pricing for bulk sugar to feed our rescue bees is comparable to Costco without it being an hour journey Everytime …
I love this store...Checkout lines are long, however they move so smoothly and fast. So do not be afraid if you see a long line it goes really fast...Thank you, SMART and FINAL in the MIRA MESA STORE
A young man was making orange juice as I walked in. He was very polite and asked me if he could help me with anything. Nice experience only complaint bakery needs to sell smaller packages also.
As a new instacart shopper the young lady in Bakery was very helpful in helping me find items Alyssa my cashier was is extremely patient and very helpful!! She needs 1000% star rating!
The worst service you can get. The people on the checkout line are always rude and arrogant, and the manager was arguing with me and told me not to shop there if I didn't like it.
Alicia who is the Cashier is very rude I handed her my ID Card to scan for buying alcohol. She scanned it and threw the ID Card at me instead of handing it back to me.
Most of the staff was nice, my cashier was, however, lackluster. Even the female retrieving carts was kind and told everyone leaving "Thank you and have a great day!"
$1.99 for one cheap mask. Really? Also got to love it being one per household. Home Depot sells a 50 pack for $20 and they also give them out for free to customers.
The place looks neat & clean, but the produce people should try be a little more friendly or at least smiling. There's a few checkout clerks who are just awesome.
Great people and great store. The checkout line was very long and intimidating, however it went extremely fast. Great selection and good prices. Love this store!
Good time (for my wife and I) was 1:30 pm. Some people still will block the aisle but a little patience goes a long way!
I really like this place has good variety of groceries, supply's for BBQs and alcohol selection, flowers, cards, and more
Good and affordable prices. It beats Kroger and Safeway based stores on many items I use in bulk.
Out of some stuff I needed but selection was good and they have a good amount of bulk stuff
The tall white lady i guess manager was mean to both store employees and customer.
