"As anyone working or living in the Loop knows, it can feel like a ghost-town outside of 9-5, Mon-Fri! Places like South Loop Market (which is located at the South end of the Loop, as opposed to the "South Loop" neighborhood) make it more livable for the residents of the many condo buildings in the area, as well as office employees looking to squeeze in a quick stop at the grocery store before heading home to make dinner"
"I bought a 2 liter Diet Coke "
"Apart from the crazily marked up goods and minimum to use a credit card in the store, I was even blocked by a store employee from entering my building through the store without making a purchase, which I feel was ridiculous"
"First visit in and I was impressed with the breadth of products and healthy options in the grocery area"
"Love this little store"
As anyone working or living in the Loop knows, it can feel like a ghost-town outside of 9-5, Mon-Fri! Places like South Loop Market (which is located at the South end of the Loop, as opposed to the "South Loop" neighborhood) make it more livable for the residents of the many condo buildings in the area, as well as office employees looking to squeeze in a quick stop at the grocery store before heading home to make dinner. Expect to find all of your basic staples stocked, but the brand names you would expect at a much larger chain, or boutique European grocer. It's small, almost hidden appearance from the outside would not hint at the variety you will find inside, including a deli and ready-to-eat, takeaway lunch items.
I bought a 2 liter Diet Coke . When I got home and sip on it . It was tasting weird and not carbonated . I check the expiration date and showed July 13 2020 . ( today’s date August 18 2020). Since I live in the same building I went back to exchange it with another one . I found out 4 out of 5 Diet Coke on the shelf was already expired too . And the other one is going to expired within a week !!! I give them 2 stars for just letting me exchange it with Zero Coke which had 4 weeks to its expiration date lol
Apart from the crazily marked up goods and minimum to use a credit card in the store, I was even blocked by a store employee from entering my building through the store without making a purchase, which I feel was ridiculous. To that employee, you did your store a great job losing a weekly customer over a one time walk to my building through the store. Selection of wine is alright but chips and everything else is at least a dollar more expensive than anywhere else.
First visit in and I was impressed with the breadth of products and healthy options in the grocery area. There were patrons taking advantage of the fresh made deli sandwiches with a small seating area that looks out on Van Buren so you can watch the world go by. Impressive beer, wine and spirit options as well as La Columbe iced coffees as well. Very clean and I highly recommend. I will visit them again.
Love this little store. Very convenient, nice selection. Products cover basics PLUS, for ppl on trips/moving in, or just browsing.. They have healthy options, gourmet fare, etc. Yes some things cost more here; but, some don't. Either way, it's fair compensation for not having to make a trip somewhere else. Really Delicious deli cheeses, salami. (^.^) Goes great with Coke in glass bottles.
Having a "convenience store" in my building is possibly the best thing ever. Those are great selection of gluten-free, organic, high-end Foods which is perfect for when I don't want to get in my car to go to a bigger store but I don't want to eat fast food. And the wine selection is top notch. I can even get the fancy bourbon made in Vermont that I came to love while living there.
Always well stocked, the Boarshead deli is great, and the staff are extremely friendly! Some prices are a bit high, but the convenience is (most of the time) worth it. The market is on the ground level so no wheelchair elevator parking is needed and there is no direct parking, but there is a large parking garage directly across the street with wheelchair accessible parking.
Be careful on what they charge. As shown in photo milk shows 50% off and I was charged full price. I called the store and the guy on phone sounded crazy stating that I need to come to store and they need to look at camera just for a matter of 2$ which they can clearly search with order number and item on sale to give a return to credit card.
Given the location you'd be hard pressed to find a better shop to pick up a quick six pack. Good beer selection, and convenient to union station and other downtown attractions where you might want to BYO. The rest of the shop seems nice as well, offering various groceries and such in a sort of high end super-sized convenience store space.
A nice deli inside of a small grocery store. They make sandwiches to order and the food was good each time I went there. This is a good place to get something quick to eat for lunch. Price range is about $7.00 - $10.00. This place is normally not to busy (around 11:45 am weekdays) and you should be able to order quickly.
We moved to Chicago from Florida and researched where we can find Boars Head Deli meat and surprise surprise The SLM was right around the corner. Great place, great staff and another surprise is that they have a great Scotch selection at VERY reasonable prices. We're going back this week for more of both!
Turned me down because I didn't have cash and wanted to buy a water. Its 2017, not many people carry cash. Prices are already hiked a somewhat asinine amount, so just pay the credit card transaction fee and sell to everyone. Won't be coming back.
Great little convenience store, a bit pricey...but they've got a selection of wines, beers, snacks as well as coffee, donuts and deli sandwiches. If you're strapped for time and don't mind paying the extra $ it's worth it.
Great beer selection (notably three Floyd's) and they have a decent selection of sundry items. Staff can be hit or miss but the store is always clean. Expect to pay a dollar or two more than jewel, binnys, or target.
A very small 'grocery store', has a large selection of wines and beer and only a handful of vegetables. An ok selection of prepackaged goods like granola and pasta and surprisingly good cheese/ dried meat selection.
Pretty good for that spot, have a fairly extensive selection of spirits, always nice. Have a good amount of groceries for the stuff you always need. South loop pricing though.
Its convenient if you are in the area but very expensive. The guys who work there are always very nice though and I heard their deli sandwiches are really good.
This Market is small and clean, all the employees that I saw had their mask on correctly (over mouth and nose), people respected the social distance rule.
Nice place to go to when you're hungry in the middle of night. You need to buy more than $5.00 to use debit card or credit card. Friendly staff though.
Very convenient location for quick shopping before I go home from the office. Selection is descent and pricing ok. Helpful staff.
Cool staff, better sandies. I forgot the sandwich I had, but someone threw out the other half of my sandwich and I was sad :/
Small selection but good if you need to put out a small spread for last minute guests. Also, there is a small deli counter.
Helpful in a pinch. You’re going to pay the price of convenience. For a tiny store there is a surprisingly large variety.
Good location, service, and selection for the Amtrak traveler wanting to stock up on victuals during a layover.
Great beer selection for the area. Their sandwiches are really good as well. It can be a bit pricey though.
Good market. Good Boars Head sammies. Staff is friendly and helpful. I freakin' love cold coconut water.
Awesome place to shop. Great Selections Beverages. And much more... ♿Wheelchair Accessibility. …
I love this place Very good sandwiches I'll be coming back for more
Great beer selection. Also they have real good deli sandwiches.
Always nice people. They also have a lovely Deli.
