I took my pup to the Kingston Vet upon referral from Huonville. Early onset Glaucoma was the diagnosis however, her IOP (Intra Occular Pressure) was only 25 when Glaucoma is normally confirmed at an IOP of 30 plus. The attending female Vet tried to tell me that the only option was to remove the eye. Only 1 option given in relation to eye drops to reduce her IOP, only to be told that 10 out of 10 times this fails. Well how about you let me make the choices??? I was told that it could be cancer causing the problem but NO options in relation to either an MRI or CT scan to rule out cancer were offered, lets just go straight to removal of her eye. I am totally disgusted and absolutely horrified that a dog with an IOP of only 25, I was told that the eye was absolutely useless and had to be removed. How in the hell does any Vet categorically confirm that the eye is useless short of placing an eye pad over the non-affected eye, let her walk around and see how she navigates her surroundings. I also had to take a bathroom break and when I returned this is how I was greeted with lets remove the eye. NO discussion about the numerous potentially deadly side affects of having the eye removed. The eye can be kept in situ with my pup eventually loosing site in that eye, an option I am going to take after extensive research into Canine Glaucoma, it's causes, affects and potential life threatening problems with eye removal. The TVH are actively involved in buying out smaller veterinary practices with their only focus now on making as much money as they can, regardless of what they have to do and say to do it. Interestingly, Huonville Veterinary pracrtice is also a sister clinic, how amazing and coincidental is that. If the TVH and their vets think for one minute that stating that the only cure is removing my babies eye to boost their annual profit, they have another thing coming. I was also prescribed Metacam which is an anti-inflamatory drug for musculo-skeletal problems and nothing to do with eye pressure. Just another's poinient example of being prescribed something I don't need just to make money. For gods sake, research, consult and get a second opinion before proceeding with any treatment with TVH. I thought that going to the Kingston clinic would enable me to find a Vet I could trust, well how terribly wrong I was. I will never use or recommend them again to anyone.
I'm delighted to share my positive experience with the Veterinary Hospital. Recently, my beloved dog underwent spinal surgery at their facility, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. The entire team displayed exceptional expertise and care throughout the process. From the initial consultation to the post-operative care, they demonstrated a deep commitment to my dog's well-being. The successful spinal surgery not only alleviated my dog's pain but also improved his quality of life significantly. The surgical team's skill and precision were evident, and they kept me informed at every step, providing reassurance and answering all my questions. Moreover, the post-operative care was outstanding. The hospital staff ensured that my dog received the necessary rehabilitation and monitoring to aid his recovery. Their genuine love for animals shone through, making a stressful situation much easier to bear. I can't express my gratitude enough to the Veterinary Hospital for their exceptional care, expertise, and dedication. Thanks to them, my dog is on the road to a happier and healthier life. I wholeheartedly recommend their services to anyone seeking top-notch veterinary care.
So our poor family dog has cancer, she has been on these tablets. We went down to the vet to ask about getting some more tablets for her and some other things. Anyway the lady at the front desk said you can bring it in on Saturday (3rd of April) so mum went down on Saturday and they were closed, they neglected to mention that. That was fine. We took our dogs urine sample down on Tuesday or on Monday because they were open and they said we will get in touch and everything. Today is Wednesday AND we still have not heard back!!! Each time they say yes we will call you but they don't! We don't know if the cancer has slowed down, we literally don't have any idea. We cannot get any tablets for her because they have to be given by a Vet and not a nurse. I cannot express how frustrating and anxious it is!!! Look if its bad news and they don't want to tell us, just tell us because you are putting us in more agony waiting it out!!! We have never had any problem's with this Veterinary Hospital before and its such a shame that right now in this time of need we feel like our dog is being neglected. Really poor behavior....
As a devoted cat mom, the health of my feline family member means everything to me. When my cat had a urinary blockage and needed surgery, the worry and fear were overwhelming. However, from the moment we arrived at Tasmanian Veterinary Hospital, my anxieties began to subside. Dr. Lucy was not only highly knowledgeable but also incredibly reassuring, putting both my mind and heart at ease. The nurses went above and beyond, providing comfort when I needed it the most. What truly touched me was the regular photo updates and phone calls to keep me in the loop about my cat's progress. Their commitment to patient care and compassion for concerned pet parents is evident. I am immensely pleased with the treatment and attention we received and deeply grateful for the exceptional service provided. I wholeheartedly recommend Tasmanian Veterinary Hospital to any pet owner in need. Thank you, Dr. Lucy and team, for your stellar care!
Staff are great at this practice, although its a shame we live in a world where capitalism and money govern the way life works, and often treating animals can seem expensive, I always remind myself how much medical treatment for humans and if i had children, what they would cost. My dogs are loved at this clinic, I have made friends with the staff through all the incidents my pets have put me through and I recommend this vet very highly. If you are worried about money and it is an issue, it is always worth ringing around to a few different places to compare costs. Otherwise, these guys are great and its disappointing to see some of the reviews on here rate the practice negatively. If you are not willing to pay for your pets care, you shouldnt have a companion that relies on you in the first place.
I highly recommend Tasmanian Veterinary Hospital Bellerive... The staff go above and beyond and are some of the most compassionate ppl I have come across in the Veterinary business. They have always been able to get me in at the last min as well as right on closing one night without a bother. They assisted me with my fur baby (cat) Tiger recently and I can't thank them enough. They have also handled all of his cremation process without me having to lift a finger which I dont think I could've done myself. They r a little bit pricey compared to others but I would pay that 10 times over for their compassion and how they take care of ur fur baby. I rate them more than 5 stars I give them 10 stars #thankyousomuchtasmanianveterinaryhospitalbellerive
Always go out of their way to help. They travelled all the way from North Hobart to my house, which would have been close to a 40km round trip, so that my beautiful Meg (cat) could pass away at home in her favourite spot in the afternoon sun. Afterwards, they quietly packed up and left with no fuss or questions about the bill (“we will do that later”) and let themselves out while I cried and held Meg. They even sent us flowers - complete strangers who had never even been to the practice before! We’ve been regulars ever since (Feb 2015) even thought it’s further to drive than our old vet (who were refusing to do what NH did as mentioned above). Mog would like to give a shout-out to Dr PIP who he LOVES
Arrived here with my dog who was experiencing shaking and pain, reception staff were really lovely, nurse who saw us first listened to a run down of relevant information I gave regarding my dog. Vet was also nice and informative. They took my dog for bloods, stool sample and urine test and only issue they had was taking bloods (they said she would need to be knocked out to get blood as they tried but couldn’t get the needle to stay in) once I told them that I usually hold her they were happy to try again and we got the blood needed. The costs for consult were on the higher end compared to other vets but overall I was happy with the experience. Test results arrived the next day.
We took our dog to TAH after she was bitten by a Tiger snake. We were met at the front door by a nurse, after we had called to say we were bringing our dog in. The Vet and staff were extremely attentive and considerate and we were rushed in to the treatment room. Ultimately, our dog survived, thank goodness, and it was all down to the staff at TAH (and the after hours vet surgery who looked after our dog overnight for two nights). Some people have commented to us about TAH being expensive but I think you get what you pay for..... and in this case it was excellent service and a healthy dog again. Thank you so much to the TAH staff.
I want to thank Jim, Gareth and the team for treating our dog Chilli. They took great care of our little dog. We received frequent updates during the operation and overnight stay. Their patient discharge package came complete with detailed aftercare instructions + some super cute personal touches. On a personal note, this is the best experiences in handling customer feedback I've ever seen. Our initial interaction was a bit bumpy with another vet, but Jim handled it amazingly well, addressed our concerns about the diagnosis and provided ample support and information.
Not our regular vet which turned us away I an emergency due to being booked out. No trouble with getting our golden retriever in with what was a time critical emergency even though themselves were fully booked. Quick response made sure no long term damaged was done and treated within 30mims of calling. Then to my surprise a follow up call just to check how things were the following morning. Can't thank the team enough!!!!
Our dog Bella had her first visit to the vet. Dr Bassett and his team took such wonderful care of her. We had to leave Bella at the clinic for a short while to have a skin scrape for some tests, but we knew that she was in good hands. The issue was quickly found and treatments were discussed (with absolutely no pressure to buy anything on the spot) I would thoroughly recommend the Tasmanian Animal Hospital (Kingston Clinic)
I can't recommend this hospital more highly. The staff where amazing Dr Gareth did a wonderful job. My dog Tazz was in for leg surgery. Dr Gareth explained everything and was easy to understand. The staff kept me informed every step of the until I picked Tazz up the next day. If Tazz ever had to have surgery again I would not hesitate to take him back. Hopefully this won't happen. Thanks again
I changed to this vet from my old one last year. The experience we and our dog has is friendly they have some great vet nurse support, plenty of room at the entrance so you don't have dogs/cats stressing when they meet others there. Our boy is always relaxed, happy for pats, has his shots before he even realises. He thinks he's just there for cuddles. He's a large dog Maremma/BorderCollie.
We've been there 3 times for vaccine and regular health checks. Dr. Andrew always carefully examines our cat, patiently answers our questions, kindly reminds us what are truly good for cats, and humorously explains why other fancy things are just waste of money or energy. All staff we met there are friendly and helpful. Prices are clearly listed and reasonable to me.
It was a shock, and a extremely painful and sad time because our mate was very sick we had to say goodbye to him. The staff, well I could not praise them enough for the care and love they gave to our Bear and there care of us of what we were going through, I could not praise and thank them enough for their kindness and patience.
From the front desk, to the operating table and furthermore to the patient transport Van. They are dedicated to your beloveds well being. Thank you to each and everyone there. And a special thanks to Stevie and another doggo (unfortunately don't know name) who's staffs pets supplied life saving blood to my boy …
Very friendly and empathetic doctors and nurses. Thank you to staff who stayed back past close and allowed my brother and I time to say our goodbyes to our beloved cat. Even sent us a heartwarming handwritten card in the mail sending condolences. Thank you so much Dr Hannah, nurse Emma and others.
Have nothing but praise for the staff at Tasmanian Animal Hospital. Have been going there for years and have always received very good care and friendliness from all staff. Recently lost one of our dogs and the care was fantastic, very sympatric. Also received a lovely card and flowers from them.
Jim and the team were amazing with our dog Milco who I brought in without an appointment, in a critical condition. They could not have done more for us - so thorough, upfront and understanding. I’d like them to know what a wonderful job they are all doing and it doesn’t go unnoticed.
Tasmanian animal hospital will ignore your problems and try to find other issues so they can fix them and charge you. Much like a mechanic would with a car. Disgusting to be honest. I will never be taking my dog back to them. They have only caused more issues than what they fixed.
The most caring vet clinic. I have ever been . To the warmth and caring of the staff is amazing. They helped and he genuinely cared for Missy. When it was Missy's time to go across rainbow Bridge. They sent the most beautiful card and large bouquet of flowers to us.
Whilst running a little behind for my appointment due to an emergency surgery, staff were very kind at giving updates and had my dog in as quick as possible. Although weren't able to 100% resolve my query at the time, they were very good at organising a follow up
The staff at this surgery are incredible. We has the unpleasant duty of putting our beloved Hemi to sleep today. The support and empathy displayed by ALL staff was top drawer. Thankyou for making a horrid experience as palatable as possible Highly revommended
Highly recommend! Super caring and professional. They took me through each steps of the life saving treatment with quotes on cost. I appreciated the take home aftercare instructions as it can be all very overwhelming and a lot to take in at the time.
These guys were so awesome today they were the only vets I could get my furbaby into see a vet on short notice but unfortunately they couldn't save her but the compassion they had shown her & myself was amazing to no end so thank you so much guys
Was quoted over $1,600 for a Scope on my Beagle... tried to arrange fortnightly repayments of $400 to cover this large amount but they wanted the full amount upfront. More interested in money than my pet's well-being. Had to cancel the Scope.
Very efficient service at the TAH. Friendly staff who looked after my dog through out her consultation and surgery. I was able to get an appointment easily. The advice was thorough and I was talked through different options and did not feel
Our dog recently overdosed on medication (found bottle!) and we were worried for his life. The care, information and the absolute hero’s who work here warrants a 5 star rating. Thank you thank you for caring for our dog Squash :-)
Buddy is has an alergy to the rectal thermometer, guess I can understand and so did the Vet Staff. Another unexpected trip to the Vet to repair a wound, beautiful caring and professional service by all the people at the clinic.
Friendly service. In depth detailed information on what ever the sickness and or outcome of your loved pet. Payment options available if required. Has grooming available if your pet has special needs and requires sedation.
Am confident my old dog gets the best of care and advice on his well being is not withheld and given in plain language .Appointments are not a problem and have received many a phone followup if he has had treatment.
Very kind and caring to me and my dog when he needed urgent help and also treated him even though they knew we didnt have the money at that moment and they saved his life cant thank and recommend them enough
Predatory behaviour. Overpriced. More concerned with making profit. Costs 40% more than other veterinary surgery’s I’ve been too. Make sure you shop around first. Overpriced does not mean better care.
Professional service, fitted us in at the last minute for an urgent request. Provide excellent advice and gave us plenty of options. Understand budget dictates what you can do. They offer zippay.
Thank you team at TVH Bellerive for looking after Coco and doing such a good job with her spaying. Our baby was well looked after and I heard she even made a few friends! 10/10 would recommend
They have very good staff, and big facilities. One of the few places in Tasmania that offer chemotherapy. The only downside to ir is that they won't sumbmitt your insurance claims for you...
All the staff there are super friendly. They seem to have seperate waiting rooms for pets that freak out, and they even remembered my doggo girl without her even being in at all for a year.
Words fail to describe the outstanding levels of professionalism & empathy displayed by every staff member. Thank you to such an incredible team, helping care for my ageing fur babies.
It's an absolute pleasure to deal with the staff here! They are so caring and always have a smile. My dog actually enjoys his visits and Dr Rob is fantastic with him at every visit.
Super friendly staff! More than happy to accommodate us and our dogs after we moved south. Got us in and diagnosed out dogs issues and are now waiting for surgery. Best vets about!
Despite covid 19 restrictions our Great dane who has 'other dog issues' was well looked after as she had her pre op cardio examination. Wold definitely recommend this practice.
Passing through Tassie I needed stitches removed from my dog. The staff were amazing fast friendly and they only charged $15 . Thanks so much Tasman Animal Hospital !!!!
Diagnosed my pet straight away no fuss and helped with wich payment method to use. Kept me up to date on how my pet was going whiched eased my mind a great deal.
I can't speak highly enough of all the staff. Professional, kind and understanding, every time. Our dogs always receive the best care and leave happy.
Always looked after my dogs in the most professional and friendly manner. Saved the life of one of them twice. Can't recommend them highly enough.
The vets, vet nurses and admin staff are all nice people. The prices are a little steep, but you know your pet is getting excellent treatment.
Best vet's in Hobart and surrounds. Been going there for almost 30 years. Not the cheapest but the vet's are all good especially Chris Alfred.
Very happy with my Cats treatment by Dr Natalie Wood, she's very understanding, compassionate and caring and explains everything thoroughly.
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. My little Staffy had spinal surgery and I was kept informed with photos, messages and phone calls.
my fur baby Gracie, had her nails clipped by the lovely vet nurses and as normal they were great. Here she is resting afterwards …
