"Tender trap is a STAPLE in the area"
Not the traditional experience. The Staff is friendly, the Service is fast and the prices are fair, but the food isn't necessarily what you'd expect (explanation below). Our order contained BBQ pork wonton soup, vegetarian egg rolls, Tender Trap fried rice (also known elsewhere as house, special or Yeung Chow fried rice), honey garlic spare ribs and General Tao chicken. The soup has a dark, slightly orange broth that has a strong fragrance of BBQ? and thick square chunks or pork. Definitely not the clear broth with thinly sliced BBQ pork and a few veggies that I'm accustomed to in other parts of the city. The egg rolls where fine but nothing special, would have preferred if they had some meat in them since the spring rolls are also vegetarian. The rice was quite tasty, I really enjoyed it. It's a bit darker and slightly oilier than what I'm used to but very good nonetheless. The honey garlic spare ribs are breaded and in a thick sauce, which really threw me off. I haven't had spare ribs like since Ho Lee Chow was still around so I was not expecting that. The menu doesn't mention they're breaded. Not my thing, but I'm sure other will enjoy them. Finally, the General Tao chicken was a bit heavy on the breading and not hot at all. The brocoli that came with it was a very nice touch and I really liked that but IMO, it still needs a bit of peppers and onions. Overall it was an okay experience and I will definitely give them a try for other dishes, but it will unfortunately not be my first choice for chinese food.

Tender trap is a STAPLE in the area. Nothing bad on the menu. I've probably tried everything now. They're also super friendly and give off a warm family vibe. Eating a dish from tender trap is like being transported back to a time when Chinese food meant something different and despite how much the neighborhood has changed around them, they've stayed true to who they are and what they do well: Providing affordable food and outstanding value to the families of Cabbagetown, st James town and beyond.
Well I thought I can just order in a takeout container eat here and maybe order more if needed since would be easy already in containers. But...according to lady at the desk if you order take out your not allowed to stay. (Place is not busy either)...very unfortunate. I came because I am really hungry and have a chinese food crave even if it's not true traditional style chinese food. Waiting to actually try the food now...sort of upsetting and discouraged about enjoying a pleasant meal :(
I will say that my favourite Chinese cuisine could be found here; my favorite is A4 on the menu. It is the best Chinese restaurant in Toronto, and it is located at the intersection of Parliament and Wellesley. Folks of all cultural go there to experience the Chinese food, cold beverages, including bubble teas, hard drinks, and soft drinks. There are comfortable seats and a television you can watch the news on. I highly recommend for everyone to visit this restaurant.
The first time I eat their food it was really tasty hot and good price. Last week the food tasted awful especially the fried rice,it tasted bad... the rice smelled bad. The kung po chicken was mostly vegetables I could count how many chicken pieces was in the plate. Yesterday got the wrong order didn't realize until I got home. Chill chicken was way too salty . I do have think that I would be buying from this restaurant any ti.e soon. A bit disappointed and bummed.
Had the chilly chicken and general Tao. Tasteless and flat tastes for both soaked in oil. Food was so oilly that till it arrived it was a moshy chicken. No crispiness left. Maybe its good for dine in but I would avoid for delivery or anything that stays in package for more than 10 mins. Also leaving bones in our General Tao chicken its really not pleasant. Every-time we had a bite we were afraid we were gonna break our teeth. You either serve it boneless or not.
I forget the name of the dishes I ordered but oh man the food was so good. Chinese food is my favorite food since I am a kid living in Panama, and when I moved here to Canada the Chinese food is so meh. Finally I found a place that made the Chinese food really like the Chinese community in Panama and is so good. I love it how they serve you big portions and the price reasonable. I'll be back here for sure.

We came across Tender Trap by chance while in the area through a Google search. Every item we got was so hot and fresh and delicious! We don't live in the area but ended up coming back a second time especially to eat there. We wanted to order delivery one night but were sad to discover we weren't in their delivery area. Highly recommended for delicious, fresh and affordable Chinese food.
One of the better Chinese joints. I am so happy with the food and speedy service I got for lunch. The lunch special is totally worth it and a great variety can't wait to try them all.

Okay wow. So bad. Its been declining in quality for awhile now and this is the last straw. This beef and broccoli is watered down -NO- flavor and no sauce either. Soya sauce noodles are yellow and overcooked, if they added soya the color would have changed. chicken balls are all dough the squid is purely tentacles - why even do that?! Im fed up thats it. Never again.
A good food and good price !!!! After work all the day…. Save me guy’s!!! I’m satisfied

They're one of my favorite Asian restaurants around , I'm taking out cause it's close to my place, their foods are good, the prices are really reasonable and the staff are very welcoming , also fast which is a very good point , my favorite dishes are fried fish on fried rice and chicken balls with sweet and sour sauce.... recommend More
Used to be better. It's too expensive imo. Lower quality and the portions are pretty small. Their fried rice is not good. If I'm craving Chinese, this place wont satisfy my craving. Some of their noodle dishes are good. Ill give it 5 stars because I'm nice.

BEST FOOD EVER!!! Fried Fish Fillet With Fried Rice must have been the best thing I ever tasted in my life, the fish was crunchy on outside, and so tender in the inside, the fish basically melted in ur mouth, and the rice was soo good they added some peas and some lime and some soy, it was SOOO GOOOD!
I've ordered from here a few times, and I will say the very first time I was impressed with the food - vegetable fried rice and sauteed vegetables. However, the last few times, not so much. The food was a bit greasy, and It seemed rushed. I'll try again one more time in the future.
Save your money, stay away. Food is neither good or Chinese. Have a Mr. Noodles, you'd be better served. It's THAT bad.

The food is tasty but they often screw up orders. On more than one occasion I ordered vegetable hot and sour soup and I received the chicken hot and sour soup (I don’t eat meat) and once when I ordered a veggie noodle dish, it came with pork in it.
I love this place for food taste, quantity and quality they offer for price they charge. My favourite is miso soup, all fried rice, and all chicken dishes, fish fries are awesome.

Its pretty standard North American "Chinese" food. Theres been a recent shift towards more authentic regional cuisine from China, especially Northern, but this style is comforti ng and well known to Canadian eaters.
A very fairly priced Chinese restaurant on Parliament st. You get decent quality food but the portions are very generous. Will be back in the future!

Got the fried tofu as appetizers and the chilli chicken with rice, and I gotta say it was an absolute rockstar! Quick and friendly service, and the portions were generous! Will be back again :)
Despite the funny name, Tender Trap serves hot, fresh Chinese take-out in a down-to-earth location. The food is always hot and tasty, albeit occasionally salty. The chicken balls are top-notch!
Quick, cheap, and reliable whenever I’m in need of a greasy Chinese food fix with generous portions.

More than meets the eye. Very fast and tasty with a lots of choices. Decor is bland and bright but if decor is your focus, fast and fresh takeout or delivery is your best option.
Shanghai noodles - amazing, Cantonese lo mein - amazing, beef ho fun - mo fun than I ever had. This really is a tender trap. Recommend 100% and great prices too. Friendly staff
Excellent food, a great amount of veggie and meat per dish. Rice is included. From take out to dine in, food are percise cook to perfection. Lovely staff. Simple and delicious.
No dining in at the moment. I called ahead for takeout and it was ready when I got there. Egg rolls only so-so, but the remainder hot and tasty. Good value, discount for cash.
They used to have this amazing chicken friend rice with a lot of chicken and very well seasoned, but they changed it and now it is just like any other chinese restaurant

Meh. Just passable. Heavy on the noodles and bean sprouts, light on the good stuff. Singapore noodles listed as spicy yet were anything but.
Love the Food here. Reasonable for the price and the staff/family running this place are good operators. My favorite is the Tso's Chicken.
We have only done delivery - but food always comes fast and comes hot! Prices are really great and everything was tasty. Would recommend.
The quality of the dishes may very throughout the day (I think they change the chef) but still a good place for some cheap yet good food!
Absolutely a gem that you would overlook in a heartbeat. Portions are amazing food is 90% outstanding. This is my go to for Chinese food
Delicious and authentic Chinese food. Very quick service and staff are also friendly and attentive. Big portions and good for takeout.
The food is amazing. 80% of the business is take away...so the food is amazing and piping hot. The bathroom was also stellar clean...
9/10 turns out great, once and a while it's a super miss. Great fried wings.

Big, tasty, cheap, typical place with lots of "Canadian style" dishes to choose from as well. Service is very attentive and kind.
Staff is friendly when you get to know them. They are a local takeout-joint for american-chinese food. Try their chilli chicken.
Worst food I've ever had in my life. Yeeeks oily Chinese food without flavor. I tried number 64 and A5 on the menu.please avoid
My Goto best Chinese place near my house. I love there food and it’s affordable. Do visit and grab some of there Chinese food.

One of my favorite chinese restaurant amd one of the best out there in my own opinion. A bit pricey but decent food.
Decent Canadian-Chinese place. Be prepared to take home some leftovers because the portions are almost too generous.
Gave the chilli chicken a try three times now... Even asked to make it spicy and add gravy was still disappointed.
The way she was talking was so rude, it was horrible customer service ever, don’t waste your time and your money!
They have one of the best Chinese food on Toronto. Their chicken balls are soft and their egg rolls are good too
Really good food. Servings were perfect size. Staff was great and friendly. I will be ordering from them soon.
Fast service for takeout, delicious food and great prices. A gem of a hole in the wall cabbagetown restaurant.
Good and cheap bites. Suggesting the p4 for the chicken lovers and the ho fun for great tasting beef ho fun!
Tasty food and good size portions. A little more greasy then surrounding restaurants, but very enjoyable.
Place smells like a thrift store other than that food was great. Tried the chilli fried tofu dish …

Best Chinese restaurant in Toronto. The lady who owns it is nice. Try the chili chicken!!
Forgot Items in my order and did not offer any compensation or apology won’t order again
Inconsistent. Sometimes a 2 star, sometimes a 4. When it’s a 2 it’s very disappointing.
Love this place! Yummy food, great staff!! Been going there for years. Recommended.
Wow!! Excellent food. The veggies are not over cooked and rest of the is fantastic.
We have been customers for decades and hope to be for many more. That says it all.
