I have been taking my pets to The Ark Pet Hospital to visit Dr. Hubenak for several years now and this review is long overdue! I have taken both my cat and dog to the Ark and have felt comfortable in doing so since day one. Dr. Hubenak is very experienced with a wide variety of species ranging from cats and dogs, to fish, reptiles and even sea turtles! He and his staff are very caring and careful when handling my pets and they always take the time to explain his recommendations and my options as well as insight on medications/shots. I have never felt pressured to follow through with any procedure, but at the same time, I always feel that I've gained an excellent value and an unsurpassed quality that I have yet to gain from any other vet. My latest visit to the Ark Pet Hospital involved my dog's broken tooth that required an extraction. Again, Dr. H as they refer to him at the office was very helpful in explaining the process, giving insight to other procedures (root canals, steel caps..) I am so confident in Dr. Hubenak's abilities that I opted to drive 300 miles from where now live, rather than try to find a comparable vet through trial and error. BTW Bagheera's mouth has healed incredibly well and he never showed the slightest signs of being in any pain, his wounds never opened back up or bled, and within 2 weeks he's back to regular food and even playing rough with his rope toy. I cant thank these guys & gals enough for the peace of mind I'm able to enjoy knowing my beloved animals are in such good care!

Allow me to preface this review in stating that out of all the veterinary hospitals in San Antonio and the surrounding area which practice aviary care, this was the only one who could accept my bird for an emergency appointment, and I am grateful beyond words. My blue budgie Blue Jean had broken a blood feather on December 8, and had already bled a substantial amount before we finally were able to get him in to see a vet. Immediately, we were met with an abundance of kindness and compassion, especially for the emergency appointment that it was. The administrators welcomed us with smiles, and the veterinary tech handled and spoke to my bird with such care. Dr. Hubenak treated little Blue with the utmost gentleness, and my bird didn't even make a peep when he pulled the feather shaft. At the end of the day, it was probably the most fulfilling experience we could have had, given the emergency circumstances. I was incredibly pleased to receive a follow-up call the next day, asking how my bird was doing and referring to him by name. Of course, he has basically made a full recovery. Thank you, Ark SA. I know exactly where I will be bringing Blue and my other budgie Bubbles for their next appointments!

Where to begin! This Pet hospital is the real deal! We are so very BLESSED that we found this facility, after having so much trouble with our last vet's facility. We have now fully transferred all three of our pets to The Ark. They truly care about all of our animals! The staff is incredible and make us feel right at home! A few days ago my Maltipoo ate a grape, which is highly toxic to dogs! We called right away and they instructed us on all the correct steps to take and what signs to look for if she was in distress. Each time a Vet tech answered and got the Doctor right away! They were amazing and fast acting. Our pup is doing fantastic thanks to The Ark :) Another time we took our Shepard mix Bailey in because he was in so much pain from scratching. They did a full body check on him and prescribed allergy medicine. Within a few days our dog was back to his happy self! Fully able to enjoy the day and move with ease. All in all if you love your furry friend take them to The Ark where you will be treated like family and given the best care possible.

New to San Antonio, we started going to the Ark after another local vet was unable to help our Yorkie/Zack get over chronic eye infections and continued to charge us over $300 every time we walked in the door. Dr H was attentive and reassuring. Turns out Zack has chronic dry eyes. We were amazed at the cost difference as well. The other vet was charging 3 times the cost of medications compared to The Ark. Since then all our dogs have had regular checkups, puppy shots, neutering, or even end of life services. We never have any issue getting an appointment online or speaking to a staff person. The staff are empathetic and truly care about the animals and people they serve. They have gone above and beyond for my family by allowing all 4 of us and Zack to be together as Cody, Zack's brother passed away. We will never go anywhere else. We love Dr H, Ali and staff. Dr. Darren Hubenak and his staff are friendly, helpful and professional. It is difficult when you are the owner of the practice and the only vet on Staff, but I am sure it is more difficult to find an additional vet that blends well with the practice. After each visit Dr. Hubenak comes out to the car - rain or shine - and discusses your pets medical needs and concerns. That definitely takes added time for each appointment. The front office staff are friendly and helpful. Records at their fingertips and reminders of your appointment. I have had an emergency with my Bird who became ill very quickly and I was told to bring in immediately. I contribute the quick action and medical treatment that saved his life. So far my dogs have just needed routine care but I do have a senior dog who is monitored closely to maintain good health but not over medicated. Thanks to all for great Vet Care of my "Children"

We can’t say enough positive things about Dr. H. and his staff. They are so compassionate, thorough, and most importantly, they have treated my fur baby like one of their own. We recently had to put down my 10 year old Doberman Shepherd, and Dr. H was with me every step from trying multiple therapies, to actually coming to our house to put her to sleep to make sure we were all as comfortable as possible. He and his staff each said their goodbyes to her and after she had passed, I received a card in the mail from Dr. H and his staff giving their condolences and each writing a special message about my Sophie. It was the most heartwarming unexpected gesture. If you want a vet that goes above and beyond, has an excellent staff, figures out issues/ailments extremely fast, and is extremely reliable when it comes to entrusting the life of your pet, definitely schedule a visit!

I was looking for a good vet as I just moved here from Colorado, and I found Ark on Google search. They are pretty close to my home and easy to get into. I am handicap and in a wheelchair but can walk short distances. When I got there I couldn't stand at the counter and needed to sit down, the very kind girl at the front brought the paperwork i needed to fill out to me and the other kind gentleman came and helped Gunnar (my pyredoodle 10 weeks old at the time) on the scale. They got me into an exam room pretty fast and started doing Gunnar's checkup and shots as soon as we got in there. The Vet who help me and checked Gunnar out was very nice and explained everything I need to know about Gunnar and how you have to take care of dogs here in Texas from Colorado. Love this place and will be mine and Gunnar's permanent vet. Thanks for all your help Ark staff.

After excessive and unnecessary charges for unnecessary tests with no resultant explanation for anything at Stone Oak Family Pet Hospital we brought our 2 Westie puppies to the Ark. What a difference! The staff is friendly and competent, the doctor is incredible and my puppies are both treated so well they don’t shake as soon as they realize they are at the vets. We chose this clinic because of their reputation and reviews and have not been disappointed. They have never invented new charges for any treatments or vaccinations and have told us straight away when something is not needed. This is something I have never encountered before. I would recommend the Ark unconditionally to all pet families.

I have a new frenchie puppy, and I want to make sure he is in good health. When I noticed that he seemed a little different in his breathing, and had gums that were off color, I called immediately. They were fully booked that day, but were so kind about seeing my puppy as a possible emergency. They were thorough and communicative the entire visit (during COVID, so I had to be in my car). They ran all of the tests and got me the results quickly. Luckily, he was fine, but I appreciate that the staff and Dr. Hubenak were so understanding and kind. They really care about the animals, and have called to check up since. We have also done his puppy shots here and are very pleased.

I had an old cat with stomach cancer she was getting older and sicker I was taking her into an other place but I wasn’t happy with their services so I decided to look for another veterinarian and I found this place and I was so grateful for their support and the way that they took care of me and my cat when I had to put her to sleep she didn’t suffer so thankfully I received comfort sooner just because they way that how they handled it so after all I decided to cremated her and they were so thoughtful that I have my precious little box with me and Her printed little paw with her name I have 2 more cats and I will continue going with them

We are so thankful to everyone, the Doctor and Staff are fantastic! we took our pup in because he was vomiting, not eating and not being himself at all. We found out He had Kidney Failure. They advised us to take him to Blue Pearl a 24/7 Hospital for his treatment because his case was so extreme and bad. I am so glad they advised us to do so! The Staff called almost every day to check on our Dasher to see how he was doing and we are so grateful for that and for all their support! The Doctor is always very caring and is checking his levels to make sure he’s at his best health possible after this. Thank you for caring so much for our baby boy!

The Ark is AMAZING!!! We decided to go here after the front receptionist Erin helped us find medication for our little pup Aaron even though our dog wasn't a patient yet and no appointments were available. Our pup has an enlarged heart so he can't go without his medication, Erin saved the day! We just had our first appointment and Dr. H (Dr. Hubenak) was very thorough, funny, explained everything in depth and you could understand what he was saying and also made our nervous little guy feel immediately at ease. We are so glad we found The Ark Pet Hospital and so glad we have an amazing vet team for our little guy!!!

Dr. Hubenak and his staff at The Ark Pet Hospital are phenomenal. They are loving, kind, patient, attentive, affectionate and respectful to our fur babies. We can always trust that they will be honest with us especially when we have to make difficult decisions. Our beloved boxer/beagle mix, Bailey and boxer, Sugar were well cared for by them and when we had to put them to rest, they both died with love around them and without pain. Our crazy golden doodle, Chloe loves getting the attention they give her with every visit. The BEST in San Antonio and we are so grateful to have them for our veterinary care.

I have been going to Dr. Hubenak for 4 years. I had a pet emergency and he was close to my house...I loved this office so much I switched everything over immediately! He has been a great source of information, and the perfect vet! I have never met a vet that cared about how expensive things can get (also love that he doesn't up charge like some vets do!) My dog loves him, and loves going there! I feel like I am at a small town vet office when I am there. They care about every patient that walks through that door as if it was their pet :) Would recommend him whole heartedly!

My daughter and I recently took her hamster, Bear, to the Ark Pet Hospital to have his teeth trimmed. What a fantastic experience! Dr. Hubenak let my daughter watch and explained exactly what he was doing the whole time. I have already passed along Dr. Hubenak's information directly to another friend with a hedgehog. I must say that while we went for exotic animal care, I would highly recommend the Ark Pet Hospital to anyone with any kind of pet. They are kind, courteous and concerned about your pet and your comfort level in caring for your furry friend!

Love, Love, love this team! Dr. H and his staff are the best. He genuinely cares. My only complaint and not really a complaint is they do get super busy, sometimes can take a bit to make an appointment. I’m glad to see his practice has grown so much over the years. One of my dogs had emergency surgery at an after hours clinic and when it came time to remove the staples, Dr. H was able to fit me in to remove the staples rather than have to go back to the ER clinic. He wouldn’t charge me either! I love the Ma and Pop feel the practice at The ark.

We have been taking our girls to The Ark for several years. We love the techs and Dr. H is unbelievable. He has assembled a team that goes above and beyond no matter what you are there for. Recently one of our girls needed to have her second TPLO (knee surgery). The team there was unbelievable, they took care of my girl as though she was their own. After surgery they made sure to call and check up on her to make sure sew as okay. She is currently on the mend and I can honestly say haven’t had better care then what we have received at The Ark.

Dr. Hubenak and his entire staff are very professional, caring and sympathetic. They treat our fur babies as if they were part of their family. We have brought all of our fur babies Maxx, Mollie as well French Fry and Tater Tot our prairie dogs and have always been 100% satisfied with their services. Soon we will be bring them our news addition to the family. We can wait to see them again. LOVE THIS DOCTOR. HE IS VERY GOOD WITH MY DOG AND VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE IN ALL ASPECTS OF HIS CRAFT. ALY IS SUCH A JOY WITH HER SMILE , SWEET VOICE, AND HER DEEP CARING FOR ALL OF THE ANIMALS THAT GO THROUGH THIS CLINIC. THEY TREAT YOUR PET LIKE IT IS THEIR OWN. I had to get on and post again today. I saw a recent review that was ridiculous. It’s a pandemic and people have to wait their turn to get into a doctor. I have always gotten appointments because I plan ahead. I know with all the five stars that the two stars is a joke. Get real!

The Ark Pet Hospital is such a great place to bring your furry family members. All of the nurses and doctors are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I feel welcome whenever we come here and I know that my fuzzy little baby is in good hands. As an added bonus, they can deal with all types of pets. We have a ferret and the doctor had no problem diagnosing and addressing her issues. I also saw a person with a snake! (So it's safe to assume they can also helped our scaled friends) Great, intelligent people! I highly recommend them!

I am actually stunned that I haven’t wrote a review. We have been with the Ark Pet Hospital for 7-10 years. We highly recommend them. Darren and his team are top notch. My dogs are always treated with excellent service and love. I love going to a place that cares as much about my animals as I do. Also Darren always knows the issue and he won’t steer you wrong. My dog Charlie has a few hurdles we had to go over and he was always fully knowledgeable and knew what was wrong. We will never go anywhere else.

I have recently moved to San Antonio and was looking for a place to bring my young kitten. It is so hard to trust new people with a new baby but The Ark Pet Hospital has been wonderful! She has completed her kitten shots and gotten spayed now. Even with COVID and not being able to go in with her, I have felt she has been in great hands because the veterinarian and all do the staff have spent plenty of time talking with me about her care and answered all my questions. So professional and friendly!

Cannoli and Metro love their doctor! We love the time the staff takes to take the initial vitals and weight. Dr. Hubenak and his staff are truly great and caring people. The location is convenient (very close to all Stone Oak neighborhoods) and they are flexible with appointments whenever I need to bring my girl in. I feel they are very honest - and I appreciate the advice they give even if I just have to call in to the office for something I *think* might be wrong. My dog is my Baby so we love having people we trust to go to for issues big and little.

As I just returned home from meeting with a travel client, I found my sweet one and a half-year-old lab had gotten into medication. As soon as I called and explain the situation, they asked that I immediately bring her in. They got her right back and taken care of. They are always very helpful and very compassionate. They always take a moment to make you feel appreciated and cared for as much as your furry family member.

This is the BEST pet hospital that we have ever taken our three dogs. Dr.Hubenak is very knowledgeable and offers great advice for my two elderly dogs! I trust him completely!!! Dr. Hubenak and his staff are the best. I've brought all my pets and foster pets to him for years. He's about 30 minutes away from us but its worth it to be able to to go a vet we can trust. The Ark Hospital is well worth the 20 minute drive from home. We brought our 3 month old rescue puppy for her first exam and distemper shot. Dr. Huebenek and staff noticed a slight nasal discharge and offered tips. Ark Hospital treats pets in addition to cats and dogs, including the occasional ferret. The hospital expanded its space to about double the original building.

We initially took our poodle to The Ark Pet Hospital because it was only about a 15 minute drive from the house; however, Dr. Hubenak and his entire staff were so professional and caring that we wouldn't think of taking her any place else. Whether it's for a routine exam or an emergency, we know our little girl is in good hands and will receive the best care possible.

After a horrible experience with my last vet, it was a huge relief to find such a wonderful clinic. They will always take care of my fur-babies. I can't recommend them enough!

You couldn't ask for a more caring staff. They have been taking care of my three dogs now for over 4 years. Dr. Hubenak has done all our spays on the girls and all their labs and shots. I have also kenneled them there and they do an awesome job of making the girls feel at home. I will never go anywhere else for any vet care!

The veternarians and vet tech treat my animals amazing . I have two exotics, a bearded dragon and a caique parrot. The vets (I’ve met the male owner and the female veterinarian) have a deep compassion for animals and want to do what’s best for your animals. It’s nice to see a genuine practice that’s not all about the money.

The Dr. and his staff are friendly, professional and know what they are doing. We feel confident our pets always get the best care when we bring them here. They were wonderful and caring with walking us through some hard decisions we had to make with a sick pet and treat all pets as what they are, part of our families.

I called to see if they could help a dying pretty parakeet and the lady said on the phone that "they don't have the space "they just don't care about attending a dying bird" ! Absolutely horrible experience with these people! Don't take them at all to this terrible place. Not worth it! Complete zero stars to them !!

Our Great Dane had been sick for a few days. We hadn't found a vet here since moving from Wisconsin last year and since The Ark came up with such great reviews, we called them. They got us in the same day. So friendly. So good to Mac. Thorough. Explained everything. Made us feel welcome. We're so glad we found them!

Dr. Hubenak and his staff are very professional and friendly. What I really like is that they do not rush to cut off a conversation and allow you to discuss all your concerns about your pet and get answers then and there. We are very pleased with the service and advice received and plan to stick with this practice.

Dr. H and his staff always take allot of time and ask enough questions that I know my Dog is getting the best care available. Sadie is my second pet with Dr H. My daughter drives from Universal City to keep her dog at the Ark. So he's got two generations of humans and three generations of Dog from us.

Today was our first visit with our first pup. I chose this place because of all the high praise regarding the care the staff shows to all pets. It was a great visit. Our vet tech Jennifer was so patient and informative!! She was amazing with our lab mix pup Burger. I'm very happy we chose The Ark!

I have been going to The Ark for three years or so! Dr Huebner is wonderful! We rescued an African Grey Parrot who does not like men! She loves him! My two cats do also! Always on time and Sarah is great! Nice to know my exoctic is in great hands and so are my fat cats! Prices are so reaonable!

Dr. Darren Huebernak and his staff are very friendly, helpful, accommodating, and knowledgeable. During the Coronavirus Pandemic, my dogs did not miss a single shot or visit. They were able to figure the perfect workaround to this obstacle. I wouldn’t take my pets anywhere else for their care.
