The breakfast buffet is amazing and has a wide variety of delicious food.The outdoor seating is so lovely being able to look at the beach while having breakfast on a lovely sunny morning is amazing! The staff are also kind, super helpful and make sure to provide assitance where they can. However, the rooms leave much to be desired for. Firstly, those TV's are so outdated.The picture quality is so poor.Sometimes there are white lines on the screen and the colours look so faded.On one instance when I changed channels I could still see a still frame from the previous channel burnt into the background of my current channel. Secondly, the channels offered are extremely boring.Besides being able to watch the champions league I found the other small handful of channels boring I highly recommend adding a streaming service or more channels on the TV. Thirdly, the wifi is extremely inconsistent.Most of the time even the smallest of video clips will take forever to load with so much buffering that its wishful thinking you'll be able to watch Netflix on your phone. Lastly, the power outlets on the wall really charged my phone super slowly. My phone has a quick charger but when plugged into the outlets it charged at a snails pace and it barely charges if its plugged in and you're using it at the same time .I was so bored in my room because of these three factors otherwise my stay would have been a 10/10

The hotel is right by South Beach. If its your first time in Durban I recommend rent a bicycle at one of the shops by the beach and cycle along the golden walk. There is also a very affordable three hour bus tour that only costs a R100 p/p that you can get on North Beach which is about a ten minute walk from the hotel.

The hotel is right next to Durban CBD which is not really dafe. Many people warned me to keep my phoen away and be very vigilant when walking after sundown. Its also easy to see for yourself by the many homeless people walking and begging along the beach

I could see the character of this hotel from the moment i stepped in. And the staff were all great The hotel is very old and filled with interesting antique furniture What surprised me is their 4 star tourism, grading and 8. 2 review on tripadvisor. Compared to other 4 star hotels iv stayed at, this wasnt up to standard. Firstly the venue(due to no fault of theirs), is not good. Its in an area that is becoming run down at an alarming pace The beach was across the road, but the area stank of urine. A smell so steong iv never encountered before. There was a satellite police station nearby amd behond it were bottles filled with urine and kept there. I wouldv taken pics however i left my phone in the room for fear of getting robbed when i went outside... The beach was dirty and awful. Wonder what tourists think of this. Durbans truly gone down the drain. The hotel rooms were clean and neat, but carpets needed a good steam cleaning. I wouldn't even let my feet touch that carpet. The bar fridge door had mould inside, and was feozen with ice.... which shows cleaning is not done properly Bathroom was oldish with strange doors, like bus doors Tv did not work properly, snowy picture, and their advertised high speed internet did not work at all im my room. Supper was not to my liking. Chose a pasta dish that had too much salt. But once again Staff were wonderful. Breakfast was utterly disappointing, from a 4 star hotel... This was the only time in my life i ever ate cereal and drank coffee with a muffin, at a hotel in my entire life. The interior of the hotel was dark and dingy, like those horror movie hotels, and if it was not for the cameras in the hallways, i would have probably freaked out. We booked for work, and were given probably the worst rooms in the entire hotel. Rooms near elevators and end rooms near fire escapes. The parking was also a disaster. No proper parking and everyone had to literally park behind each other with no easy exit Sorry to say, personally I would not stay here again. The only thing nice about this hotel, are the staff.

The hotel is very dated. We booked here because it was a 4 star hotel right on the beach. But upon arrival we noticed that it is situated in a not so place of Durban CBD. The staff and service was great, but rhetorical location isn’t. We were told that it wasn’t safe to park your car right in front of the hotel overnight. The rooms are nice and big, but the bathrooms were old. The taps were loose, the shower wasn’t great at all. What was worse is that when we booked no where did it say it was a Halal hotel. So couldn’t even get a drink at the bar after a long drive. There is only one lift in the hotel situated in the middle. It is the smallest lift I have ever been in that fits like 4 people max, even though it says it can fit 8. It is also super slow and takes ages to come. The hotel is only 3 floors. And it can take minutes for the lift to come. The breakfast spread is nice, large variety and food was good. The noise from the street on Fridays and Saturday nights were horrible. You can hear people talking on the streets with music blaring till 2am. There is no sound insulation at all. And because it’s right by town, lots of taxis and loud cars with music is everywhere. People party on the pavement which you can hear clearly from 3 floors up. Will definitely not stay here again. The area is dodgy and would not recommend walking at night.

The staff at the Balmoral Durban all work together to make your stay a delightful one, from the moment you step in you are greeted with pleasant smiles and warm gestures. Front desk are always at your service, the wait and restaurant staff are extremely friendly and helpful. If the hotel was rated purely on staff they would be 5 star but the hotel itself shows the signs of its age. Bathrooms are functional and neat but could use with some upgrades. No streaming or PayTV services is a bit of a downer and the TVs could be upgraded to smart so patrons could use other services such as YouTube etc... The rustic feel of the old wooden staircases and furniture coupled with Victorian paintings mostly of ships gives you the feel like you are on the titanic... Aside from the minor issues, which I hope will he upgraded soon, this Hotel boasts tons of character and the 110% given by staff, plus the beautiful Indian Ocean at its door step make the Balmoral an exceptional hotel and I would definitely return here.

We received a warm welcome at The Balmoral. The breakfast was great and rooms we're clean. The Manager Zaheera went out of her way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. I will be coming back soon. All the staff get a 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ rating from me. Being a Christians I try to respect all faiths. Yet the sound of the Muslims prayers was so frustrating in the street they put the sound so hard that it actually fills the hotel with the sound. I am glad that the managers are making plan with my next stay.

The Balmoral is honestly such an amazing hotel the staff are so friendly and welcoming not only is the food halaal which is wonderful because you rarely find halaal catering hotels their food is absolutely divine and so affordable as well the breakfast buffet is amazing so many food items to choose from, will definitely be going there again, my children received gift bags with party packs loaded with sweets and toys which kept them occupied during the stormy weather absolutely wonderful thank you for the experience and hospitality what I would recommend is better mattresses as the sleeper couch was abit uncomfortable as well as more toilet paper per room as one wasn't enough for the 6 of us but overall the hotel is absolutely amazing, thank you once again

Located right on the Golden Mile across the street from the beach. Parking is limited and at the back of the building or you park at the Shop rite parking a fair distance away. Research the history before going there as this place is not for everyone. Can definitely do with some basic maintenance. The tap in the bathroom was wrapped in paper and taped up, not sure why. Carpets are old and the floor is wooden and noisy. Hardly got any sleep due to excessive noise and sort of like fighting outside close to Beach Hotel. There is a McDonald's next door but be cautious as the closed like 8pm on a Friday and only opened at 8am on the Saturday. Staff should learn to be more polite and friendly.

The decor and set up was beautiful. The food was amazing. Unfortunately, most of the staff were unwelcoming. The back handed comments, they think you don't hear. It's a relatively old hotel, however the staff seemed committed to the quality. Felt homely during my three day stay. Location is prime and very close to beach fronts. Quite a big room for the family. The view is gorgeous and the staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. However, for a 4 star rating, this hotel needs a thorough revamp. It is now outdated and a furniture upgrade would be great. Lastly, please make it clear that this place doesn't have a bar (no liquor) and no bacon at breakfast! Quite an important omission. All the best. This hotel still has great potential.

Stayed at this hotel on two occasions now over the last two weeks, the rooms are clean enough but very dated (as is the whole hotel) you can tell at one time it would have been a very grand hotel. I liked Balmoral.. It was great, I would stay there again and I would recommend it to anyone. Even where there were things that were not done properly, they were on point to correct and help you.
