"The good: We were seated immediately on the patio, no wait"
Following a prompt recommendation by my son, my party and I decided to dine at King Eddy in the bustling ByWard Market. Our initial impression was favorable as we were promptly seated upon arrival. However, our experience took a discouraging turn from thereon. An appreciable 15 minutes elapsed before our waiter took our orders(mind you we where sitting at the bar), initiating an extended period of waiting. Regrettably, our wait extended to a substantial 37 minutes, during which we neither received any check-ins nor had our beverages been replenished. At this juncture, I took the initiative to inquire about the status of our meal, to which the waiter responded with a vague assurance that our food would be ready in approximately 5 minutes. Expressing our time constraints, I informed him that we had another commitment to attend and requested that we settle our bill for the drinks and depart. Curiously, the waiter then altered his narrative, asserting that our meal was currently being plated and would be served momentarily. Despite our reservations about the delay, we acquiesced to this arrangement. Subsequently, the waiter excused himself to investigate further, prompting me to seek out a manager. After a brief interlude, I had the opportunity to converse with the manager, during which I conveyed our protracted wait. To my surprise, she displayed a lack of concern and simply stated, "We are quite busy," before pledging to check on our order. Upon her return, our waiter conveyed that our meal was being prepared for takeaway and would be ready within three minutes. However, even this modest promise was not upheld, leaving us with prolonged anticipation. The manager returned once more, and I reiterated our substantial wait, now exacerbated by the additional delay in boxing our food. Ultimately, our food was provided for takeout, which further exacerbated our lateness for our subsequent commitment. I underscored to the manager that our grievance was not primarily about the extended preparation time but rather the conspicuous absence of communication regarding the delay, as well as the unsatisfactory aftermath of the ordeal. Regrettably, our disheartening experience did not conclude on a positive note, as we discovered that not all components of our order had been included. In light of the exasperating wait and the less-than-satisfactory service, I find it difficult to justify the $68 expenditure for a meal comprising two pancakes, a grilled cheese sandwich, eggs, and chicken strips with fries. Adding to our dismay, two other couples, who arrived subsequent to our party, received their meals with remarkable expediency, with one couple completing their entire dining experience before our departure.

We dropped in to The King Eddy, in the middle of the ByWard Market, for lunch on a weekday. My companion had the Whole Earth Salad (CA$16.99 in 2022) and said it was delicious. There was lots of different kinds of lettuce, cranberries, cucumber, grape-tomatoes, sunflower seeds, feta cheese, pickled beets, carrots and more. My companion said she would come back again just for this salad. I had the King Eddy Burger (CA$12.00) and, as previous reviews said, the hamburger patties were excellent: home-made, juicy, and fresh. The rest of the burger was... well, fine. I have noticed a trend to make hamburger buns very sweet and spongy and this burger was no exception. The sweetness was a distraction from the succulent hamburger patties, and I wonder if a whole-wheat or a multi-grain bun would be a better foundation both in terms of taste and "structural integrity". There is an option to substitute a lettuce leaf for the bun for a Gluten Free option. This might be a better way to enjoy the delightful burger patties. We shared a small Poutine - good thing we ordered a small because there was plenty to share! I really wanted to have the Poutine because where I'm from the Poutine has either been gentrified with truffle oil or other such frufru ingredients or downgraded to soggy fries, grey chicken gravy and a whisper of "cheese" and call it done. Not at the King Eddy! The fries were firm and plentiful, the gravy was hearty and flavourful, and the cheese curds were so fresh they nearly squeaked against your teeth. Heaven. The staff were attentive and friendly. The restaurant was about half-full and the food came quickly. The King Eddy has a road-side diner ambiance – warm and comfortable. We’d go back for the Whole Earth Salad (and perhaps the Poutine if we’re feeling decadent).
I ordered the Morning Glory with homemade breakfast fries upgraded to poutine -you had choice of regular fries. Honestly, the meal was nothing special. I wish I would have ordered the King Eddy instead. I ordered my eggs over medium-posted a picture of egg for you to see. Portions on the average side for breakfast fries would have rather had them on my plate instead of in a bowl and larger portion would have been appreciated. Bun a little too crispy on edges for my taste but you can decide by looking at pics and gravy was only blah for my taste. I prefer A A and W Or KFC gravy. The sausage had a good kick to it if you like a little spicy. Underwhelming for something identified in the menu as being voted Ottawas number 1 breakfast sandwich. I suggest going to the restaurant but order something else. Staff friendly and I did not mention my experience to them as I was in a hurry and no time to point out my misgivings. See pics below. They did ask me how it was and in fairness I said fine … not sure if I had voiced my concerns what they might have done. Suggestion to restaurant-fill potatoes to rim of bowl-potatoes are not that expensive in market.
I really enjoyed the food and the service was good, but I think there needs to be more work on the presentation. I understand that it’s a diner, but as you can see in the picture, the proportions look awkward and empty ish. Same goes for the burger (not pictured), it’s on such a tiny plate, you really have to be careful with how you eat or else stuffs would not land onto the plate. The eggs Benedict and the roasted potatoes tasted really good though! For the price, it’s worth it. I think I’d go back to try their famous chicken and waffles but for everything else, I’m going to call it a pass and go for other diner spots. Edit/add on: visited again today (May 11, 2018) with a group of friends and we were not too impressed. Again, portions looked weird and empty. My friend ordered sweet potato fries for an additional $6 and it was so little! Offered way less compared to other restaurants where they’d normally not even charge extra. My king eddy club tasted fine but for 10.99, using processed cheese and not even having fries with it, it’s quite a mediocre impression.
The good: We were seated immediately on the patio, no wait. Some of the food was okay (sweet potato fries, chicken). Drinks came quickly. Bathrooms were clean. But keep on reading for the rest... The bad: Some of the food was bad (regular fried potatoes were missing salt, veggie burger was dry and lacked taste). Service was slow. We waited about 20-30 minutes for our food. When it came time to pay the bill, we had to ask for it three times and to two different servers. The server came back to check again if we wanted the bill, even though we had asked for it already. Service was awful. We had a server try to bring us someone else’s orders not one or twice, but three times. On three separate occasions, she showed up with an order for another table, only to go back puzzled at her mistake. I was there with a group of four friends and we all looked at each other in surprise every time we were interrupted by this. Overall, it seemed there was no communication (or poor communication) between the servers. Although this was my first time, I will not be visiting again
Husband and I had breakfast at King Eddy on a rainy Sunday morning. Although the place seemed packed to us, we heard the owner (we think he was the owner) say it was a slow morning. I guess we got lucky not to have to wait for a table! Service was excellent, the staff super attentive, nice, helpful and all with a smile. The food was simply amazing! We both had the King Eddy breakfast with bacon and rye bread, but my eggs were poached and my husband’s were scrambled. The eggs were perfect, not too cooked, not too runny. The bacon was crisp without being dry and the breakfast potatoes simply melted in your mouth. These were NOT McCain tater tots. These were home made, cooked from scratched, seasoned to perfection breakfast potatoes. Pretty much the best I had in years! I highly recommend King Eddy for all this plus the prices are super reasonable, especially for the quality of the food and the service. Next time we are in town, we’ll come back for sure!

They know how to execute some killer food here! The NFC chicken tenders and fries were awesome! The chicken was flavorful and cooked to perfection. Also enjoyed the B.L.T.E(fried egg), and I omitted the cheese. They put it on a croissant, and I think I'll start eating it this way from now on. Lol My sandwich came with fries or a salad, so I got the salad. It was fresh and delicious! Yum! My only slight ding here was for service. Our server was not to be found after we got our food. My husband never got a refill on his Diet Pepsi...so we paid $3.75 for one baby glass. Then, we had to go up to him at the counter after we were done eating so we could pay. But, like I said, a very small complaint on a great meal. I would definitely still recommend this place.

This restaurant has solid food, but pretty steep prices. However, the main downfall of this restaurant is the service. The staff was not rude by any means, but certainly not friendly or welcoming and were very slow. We waited well over an hour to get food on a busy day, and on a seperate day where we were practically the only ones in the restaurant we still waited the better part of 45 minutes. We were never checked on during our meal either. Additionally, we had flagged a waitress down to ask for more coffee cream, which never came. We tried a second time, still to no avail. Waiting for the bill to arrive is another story too- it was much slower than I would expect on both visits. Perhaps this restaurant is understaffed, but it did not seem like it. None of us could recommend this restaurant based on service alone.

We came here for brunch. I called ahead since we had some luggage with us and they sat us immediately at the bar and put our stuff against a wall. This is on a Sunday morning for brunch at about 11 am or so with a line of about 5 parties ahead of us The wait staff is fun and personable. They are helpful making recommendations and always got us what we needed as we went thru the meal. I tried the eddy breakfast and my mom got the omlette. All really well prepared and very delicious. We did find the potatoes a little dry but no biggie. They have a large number of tables both outside and in so they do take a good number of walk Ins. It reminded me a little of a 70s malt milkshake space :) I loved the mint chairs and pink accents.

The Club... Holy Fuzz, I have never had a better club(even when I make my own) the Chicken strippers (two orders) the Chili cheese dog and the Queens benedict(eggs Benny with smoked salmon) were all outstanding... The fries... well they were cooked, akin to how revolting peasants were cooked with boiling oil poured from castle walls. Burnt, like anyone hiding in the trees when the napalm dropped, flash fried like the town of Chernobyl. Now when asked how everything was ihad mentioned how the fries were burnt. And our server brought us a token serving of fresh fries for the 4 of us that had the fries cooked 15 inches from the surface of the sun. And the washrooms are downstairs... no fun for those with mobility issues.

This place was super busy on a Saturday morning. Took about 15-20 minutes to get seated at the bar. Our waiter was the bartender so he was very busy but was attentive to us. The food was very good and worth the wait. The poutine was salty and had a good amount of cheese. The breakfast plate was pretty standard and average. The yogurt granola plate was very good and healthy. It was all decently priced. I would return to The King Eddy but maybe to try the lunch menu.

A new Ottawa restaurant fave! So hard to decide what to get from the menu! Every item read so deliciously! Ended up getting some milkshake and float, Grilled Cheese with Jalapeño and Tomato Soup, Quebec Poutine and Mac and Cheese. The milkshakes were an okay size. We finished them way before we got our food. Given, they were so good! The portions are massive! There was no need for me to add the tomato soup to my grilled cheese. The Mac and Cheese was simply delectable! I would order for myself next time! And the poutine I could dangerously have everyday! Staff were patient and friendly and very helpful with recommendations. Will certainly be back for more!

I am 100 Percent ‘Pushing’ P when it comes to King Eddy and frankly I had a Hesi (Hesitant) moment and I’m glad I pulled thru; ITS HONESTLY AMAZING, The Service is excellent, the waiters give you the approximate time. The Owners were present as it was Sunday morning breakfast rush. The food was served within ten minutes and the coffee was ready and warm.

I ordered uber eats and asked for the famous Loco Moco to be substituted with mushrooms instead of the the traditional egg and they obliged no extra charge!!! I did this in Hawaii so wasn’t sure Ottawa would do it. The food was hot served well proportionate and packaged impeccably! If I could give this uber order 12 stars I would. Thanks King Eddy !!!

Visited this place for the Happy Hour we loved the combination of Steam whistle with Lemonade absolutely yummmy perfect for those who love a light beer taste. My partner and I ordered The King Eddy Burger and Chicken and Waffles. Seasoning on the chicken was perfect and texture of the waffles were so nice and fluffy also their gravy was delicious. On the flipside my partner’s burger was good just nothing too spectacular. Loved the decor and the vibe not your typical diner which was cute. We definitely plan to come back again and maybe bring friends this time around!

I had an amazing experience at this restaurant! The food was delicious and there were so many options to choose from. The whole earth salad was fresh and tasty, while the NFC chicken sandwich was a hit with my partner. The fries that came with it were also amazing. The happy hour drink menu was a great deal and we enjoyed it very much. The interior of the restaurant was beautiful and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Overall, it was a unique take on the classic diner and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great meal in Ottawa. Five stars!

From the moment we arrived, the service was amazing. We went on Canada Day, and they were busy, so we had to wait for a table. They checked on us while in line and we’re super welcoming. Inside, the restaurant is beautifully designed, with a nice bar front and centre. The food touched the spot, and definitely was made with love. Perfectly seasoned and beautifully plated. This place is much better than some competitors nearby. Will definitely be back!

A great place to go because there's something for everyone! I went there for the whole earth salad and it was awesome! Truly so fresh and a huge size so very filling! The vinaigrette was just the right amount and really delicious. On the other hand, my partner is more of a meat-eater and really enjoyed their NFC chicken sandwich (the fries that came with were awesome as well). If you go between 3-6pm you can access their happy hour drink menu and they are pretty good value! Really beautiful interior of the restaurant and the staff was so friendly and helpful. A unique take on the classic diner - 5 stars!
Walked across this place and decided to try it out for breakfast. The food was delicious, drinks were tasty and the service was friendly, good communication and attentive :) my partner ordered the Queen Eggs Benny which he demolished and I ordered the chicken and waffles with an egg on top and I’m a self proclaimed fried chicken aficionado and it was very good and juicy. The gravy was so delicious. The price we paid average 17-25 per dish. It’s always a good sign when you read the menu and you want to try almost everything. Will definitely come back here!!

Very cute restaurant and the food was pretty good. Cobb salad was different but tasty and poutine was good too. I was a bit disappointed in the service. We were seated quickly which was nice but it took a long time for someone to come see us to take our order and took a while for the food to arrive to our table. For a Tuesday afternoon it was a long wait. Servers were nice and polite. Definitely a place for a meal while downtown.

Easily one of the best breakfast joints in Ottawa. The ambience is great, clean look and well spaced giving off a diner look. The staff are friendly and very warm. Service is quick and they have a generous portion size. The soda float was good, the NFC & Waffles were just great! The waffles did not feel heavy and the fried chicken is one of the best I have had in town! The poached eggs in the King Portobello were just perfection. Would definitely recommend this restaurant I will be back here for a good breakfast!

Right in the middle of the byward market in the local Ottawa city. a spacious restaurant that has option for breakfast brunch lunch and dinner. it is located at the corner of the block so if you can get a window seat you may enjoy the view by the window. The wait staff are very friendly and efficiently. I have only tried the salmon Benedict, but I loved it. it is a dog-friendly restaurant. I saw a tiny dog run around after being unleashed. It ran to the kitchen to say hi to the staff, The staff was so friendly and carry it back to the owner

I really like the renovations. I felt like the menu could due with more work though. Although there are many things on the menu, they all are somewhat similar, basically either chicken, burger or eggs. I'd love to see some fresh fruit options outside of brunch hours (which is when we were there) and more green options to balance things out. Also, we found everything a little too salty the night we went. Otherwise staff were really nice.

Went for breakfast on Sunday, didn’t have to wait long to get a spot outside. Service was great but took a while to get our orders, most breakfast places I have been to are quite quick to serve. Breakfast was nothing special, definitely not worth the price but I found most breakfast places in the area were priced similar if not more which when you think about 18$$+ for a standard eggs, potatoes and bacon breakfast it’s a bit much.

Great Diner spot Good options for Kids Although the menu looks like a typical diner type retaurant, the food tastes authentic and true to roots!! French toast was not overly sweet- tastes like homemade Fried chicken with hollandaise sauce tasted just like Southern chicken. They did have good salad and bowl options - portion sizes were excellent and worthy! The service may need to be a bit more quicker.. again expect wait times .. not more than 15 minutes though!

Extremely rude owner. He kicked me out after I said it is too hot inside and I have been waiting for more than hour. He never once apologized and back talked to me, insinuating that I am lying. In the end, he didn’t let us finish our food and collected the plates. Also, I believe he was a little bit racist, judging by the tone he talked to me. November 21, 2020 Excellent brunch! The service was proficient. The waiters were proactive, welcoming and kind. My friend and I both ordered their reccomendations: a breakfast sandwich and a King Eddy classic (with smoked salmon on the side). The portions were decent; that being said, they could have been larger. Bottomless coffee was awesome. Coffee to go was a nice touch. The atmosphere was excellent. However, the chairs do slightly slide on the floor. Overall, a fantastic brunch. A strong recommendation!
There are fundamentals when it comes to good eats. One of them is great service. The staff at the King Eddy have this in spades. More importantly are good eats. Again, the King Eddy comes up aces here! Comfort food all around. Whether it’s the simple poutine, the vegetarian friendly fried cauliflower or the northern fried chicken - you won’t be disappointed. You like beer? No worries here with a varied and acceptable local tap options. You’ll be Royal when enjoying the King Eddy!
Went to the King Eddy for lunch today. The temperature in the restaurant was perfect. We sat near the giant open door/window. The food was good! My husband got a burger. My son got some NFC fingers, which were super crispy. My daughter got the pancakes, which she loved. I got the Eddy's hot spicy chicken. It was very tasty, not as hot as I had thought it would be... But I have a high tolerance for spicy. Overall we will go back, andy husband is there usually once a week.
Expensive but very good portions and tastes. The picked beets in the one salad were really good. There were lots of flavors that really made the dish. All allergens were bolded in the menu. The corndog sauce was great. I wish the music was turned way down. The waiter kinda abandoned us a little towards the end. But there was free wifi and a nice chill clean layout. There were multiple different types of places to sit.(outside, booths, high tables, bar)
We stopped here by chance and we loved the vibe as soon as we stepped in. The service was a little slow so make sure you have enough time. Our server continued to check on us and assure us our food was coming throughout our time there. The food was very delicious and worth the wait. We would definitely come back!

Not a bad diner. The lack of a kids menu can make it expensive for families though! I wouldn't say the food justifies a special trip, but if you're in the area, want a slight step up from a typical greasy spoon and don't mind spending a bit more this would fit the bill.

Super yummy diner food and awesome wine and beer prices! Definitely a must try if you are in the mood for a nice burger, sandwich or gourmet hot dog. They have so many awesome sides to choose from like 1/2 salad 1/2 fries which is my fav! Their club sandwich was so delicious .. I will absolutely be back to try their famous homemade burgers. So much to choose from on their menu... you can’t be disappointed.
Elderly woman scared the living bejesus outta my kids after Sunday mass; her treatment of the other staff was a major contributing factor to the off putting atmosphere in the diner. Would recommend others visit King Ed on her days off. Wish we’d had another server as other tables looked happy and content; quite the contrary to my family’s experience

It was one of the warm days in November so it was very busy with people wanting to sit on their patio. However a table was available inside and there were at least half a dozen couples/groups ahead of us so we sat inside. Food took longer than expected and noticed the same for tables around us. I think it had been a while since they experienced that level of volume. Food was great.
King Eddy has wonderful decore. It is clean and well light and has a wonderful vibe. The food is fine but didn't really stand out. The portion sizes seemed fine and while the cost was a bit high, that is a function of the location. Overall, a decent enough diner but not enough to standout in Ottawa's vibrant restaurant scene.

Great breakfast place! We were served very quickly and service was good. We tried the banana, cookies & creme and orangescicle milkshakes which were all very very good but the serving size was smaller than usual (no extra cup - just standard glass)

Food was super tasty ! I had the morning glory and the egg was perfect. Only things is I feel like the portions of the potatoes was a bit small but overall food was great. The service was ok. The place is super cute and clean

My husband and son got the omelette and they raved about it. Said it was the best omelets they've had ever. I had the breakfast sandwich since it was voted Ottawas best for 2019. My 6 year old daughter finished her French Toast (no kid meals). We enjoyed the food and felt safe as we were socially distanced and the front wall was open with a good breeze.
I had a grilled cheese and chocolate milkshake.. they were pretty standard. Next time I come back I'd like to try a burger or pancakes. The staff were great and a huge highlight for me was the retro feel and cool mural.

Visited 'The King Eddy' and was blown away. The portions were huge and the food was fantastic. Shoutout to the lovely waitress. The outdoor seating offered an amazing view, making the experience even more memorable.

The food and service here are exceptional! The brunch menu is outstanding - we had the portobello Benny and the Eddy Patty melt and everything was so delicious and fresh! Our servers, Alex and Alexa M, were truly wonderful and deserve to be recognized!

The food is tasty- and from far it looks really nice portions. However, when we got the food , extremely overpriced for the portions we got. Myself and 2 Yonge kids , went out while we are definitely not full, and looking for another place to eat something in addition.

They got voted best breakfast sandwich in ottawa.....after trying it, I believe it. This place feels like someone's had dreams of opening the best decadent diner and pulled it off. The selection is large and the food is very good. I love the cartoon art style of King Eddy, I would buy a comic book based on the character.
Delicious huge portions of food, we want for brunch on a Sunday. Got the chili dog and the chicken and waffles. Also got the pitcher of mimosas which was super delicious. Great service, good ambiance.. we didn't sit on the outdoor patio as it was too hot.. but the patio is perfect for post work drinks or a lazy lunch.
Great place and wonderful staff! Fries are one of the best ever had Melt burger sandwich is a separate tasteful experience! Bread around fish was too oily to my liking but still good

Service was good. Atmosphere was nice and clean. Food was acceptable but pretty pricey. I don't love their home fries, need to be more crispy on the outside and soft/fluffy on the inside. They're gift card system was down but obviously not the server's fault.

The king eddy was amazing! The food was delicious, the service was perfect, and it was so good! My waiter was as nice as can be, and I was very surprised about how clean the building was. I had the French toast, and it was probably the best I’ve ever had!

Ordered the King Eddy burger, the club, onion rings, chicken fingers and poutine... everything was DELICIOUS! I think the club would be easier to eat if the chopped up the chicken though. The poutine was a pinch salty BUT that's how I like it. I would recommend but definitely go eat at the restaurant.
Everything we tried on the menu so far have been really good. New to go spot for brunch. The place is always busy, lots of choices and flexible with side options.

Arrived restaurant at 8:15pm on Thursday night. Not busy but waited more than half hour for food after ordered. Most likely kitchen has not enough chef. Except this, food is not bad and service is fine. Haha, we may be too hungry already! If less waiting time and less msg, it would be better.
I had the tomato soup with cheese and croutons the day before yesterday. It was so good I came back today. It was so flavourful and tasted amazing. On top of that, the service is great and everyone is very friendly. Highly recommend!!

Good portion Food, fried chicken bitter outside, gravy not good, pair with sweet plum source make it tastes a bit better. Soggy fries. Service way too slow.

Great atmosphere and our server was friendly. The service was timely. I ordered the Eddy’s Fire Hot Chicken Sandwich and boy was it spicy! I underestimated the spiciness. If you like spice definitely give it a try. The fries were delicious as well.
Amazing location, atmosphere, service and food is great. So far the best burgers I've had in Ottawa, are from here.

A solid meal in the market. Really good poutine gravy, thought the fries didn’t have much crisp to them. The fried chicken was done perfectly and seasoned well. A good waffle too. I’m told the burger was absolutely excellent.
Went for breakfast on Family Day. Good food at decent prices. Unique decor and kids enjoyed it. Paid extra for the coffee and tea which is always a bummer in my mind when you are paying $40 for breakfast.
Had the 3 piece fried chicken and onion rings. Hot and fresh. The waiter was very nice. I love the decor. A great place to eat if you are hungry

Chicken and waffles were good. The rice in Loco Moco was dry (either been on counter all day or undercooked). Been here before and remember enjoying it however service was lacking during this visit.
Delicious food. I tried it for breakfast and dinner, it was good. Very friendly staff.

Really enjoyed the food here and the vibes. Their burgers are so delicious too! We ordered the chicken club sandwich with a poutine and it was sooo delicious …
Great diner! I loved their fried chicken and my sister was very impressed with their salad! Staff were friendly and gave wonderful suggestions!
