An almost anonymous storefront on the bend of N. Rampart St where it turns into St. Claude Ave. The place is distinguishable by it's once bright orange paint job that's now degenerated into a sunbaked rust color. Hence the name by which all locals call it, “The Orange Food Store". A Viet family from out East own and operate the place. Don't expect any Bah Me sandwiches or Pho though. You're here for the Shrimp Poboy. Arguably the best in town. Why? Because Mama uses the anachronistic Jumbo Shrimp. That reason is so simple you'd think any of it's competitors could easily match them. But they don't. See, in 95% of this city you're gonna get dealt small, high-count critters which means you're paying for a lot of breading on your bread. The difference that these Jumbo's make in mouth feel, satisfaction and most importantly, flavor is apparent the moment that you chomp on into one. The price is more than reasonable. $8 for a giant poboy that two can easily share. She'll also make you one “on a bun" for $4.50! It's not on the menu but just ask for it, they'll make it for you. That leads me to the my other tip about the Orange Food Store. Use the provided phone number and call in your order ahead. If you just show up in person anytime between 10:30am and 2pm you are going to spend most of your lunch break waiting in line for your lunch. Im not the only one who knows about this place lol. Some folks rave about the "Terri Wings". I agree that the teriyaki sauce is homemade and utterly AWESOME but for some reason Mama punks out on the wings themselves. They're so freaking skinny and small that the only thing they're good for is providing a delivery system for that Teri Sauce.

How this place has amazing reviews is beyond me. Their sweet and sour chicken looks like some mystery fried meat, their lo mein looks like ramen noodles thrown together with various meats and vegetables and also when I tried to swap my girlfriends sweet and sour chicken for wings which by the way is cheaper than the combo plate she initially got, they told me no they can’t change it. How do you refuse a paying customer a change to their order when they expressed they weren’t happy with their meal. I understand this is just a corner store that happens to serve food but y’all still need customers to remain in business right? Never coming here again. Throw together meals that don’t look like a college students struggle meal for a change.

I can’t stop eating the shrimp po boys! They are so good and far too big for any one person to consume, but that hasn’t stopped me from trying. The best part- it’s only 10$! Seriously I can’t even make it myself for that price. Sooo good. I gave it 4 stars because it is a hole in the wall and I’m not crazy about the building, but it won’t stop me from going back. Sooooo good! If they added more items to the shelves and made it a little nicer I think this place would be unstoppable.

So this place is sketchy BUT you'll notice from the continuous stream of people getting food here--the food is GOOD. Like, really good. Get the fried shrimp--it is seriously delicious. The people working here (the women in the back and the big guy running the show) are nice; the ladies' English is pretty limited but they know what they're doing in the kitchen. One of the best late night food options around. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

This store NOT run by the same people (as of this year) and unfortunately the food and service quality of “The Orange Store” we all know and love IS NOT THE SAME. I went recently without being aware of the difference of food and quality of service and was highly disappointed. I don’t know if the previous owners have relocated but just a heads up to locals and tourists alike. Don’t be surprised like I was. R.I.P. to the real orange store.

I’ve been eating from this place for years, since it was named “Rampart”, and never had a bad experience. I decided to come today and ordered the fish platter for the first time. Maybe it’s me, but I’ve never seen fried fish look like this. I went back in to request a refund and was denied. I’ll take this as a sign that I shouldn’t be eating from establishments like this anyway!

  • Sun Goku

first time trying and everything is not worth what i spent my money on the egg rolls taste rancid and the hot sausage poboy sucks i would definitely not recommend this place to my worst enemy this is somewhere that tourist would go because they have no clue on what New Orleans food should taste like, anyone who gave this place 5 stars obviously are rock heads

  • Christina Sensei Barré

I've been coming to The Orange Store since I was a freshman at MCD#35 and it's always been awesome. Auntie/Mommie always ran the showing the kitchen and she was the best. The new owners are totally different to say the least. Kitchen is extremely slow and attention to detail is definitely lacking. Good thing the original recipes came with the place.

  • Nita Johnson

I order a seafood platter and it was horrible .then they gave me rice when I ask for fries and a salad . And they gave me a burn egg roll and I don't know what the neck was inside that .A complete mess. And they had so much batter on the shrimp and fish all you could taste was the batter to see if the had any seafood in it. No oyster .

  • charlie p

This is by far the top 3 sandwiches in all of the metro area. Their bread is not poboy but. Vietnamese bread that is as good if not better than poboy. Their prices are very reasonable too. I am a native New Orleanian and don’t let the looks and location fool you. THIS IS TOP SHELF SANDWICHES!!!

  • Scott Baker

This place should be shut down. I wouldn’t give this food to my dog. Every item we ordered tasted as if it had been made days ago and reheated. I felt sick after the first bite. Please, PLEASE DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE. Save yourself. Some of the worst food I have ever had. Threw 90% of it away.

  • Isaac Belonga

This business is easily located from a moving vehicle. It is in an area that once boasted of very good sandwich and quick snack merchants and they are holding up the tradition. Very fresh ingredients coupled with swift service and reasonable prices make it a good choice.

  • Brandon Saiz

Unsuspecting, but delicious. The hot sausage, egg & cheese on French bread is so tasty! I’d say it was a lil too salty, but I’d order it again, and I’d come back to try other menu items. Great prices too! The staff was friendly and I had a good experience here overall.

  • Germaine Picou

They don't sell anything that deals with pork!! No" LUNCHMEAT ON FRENCH DRESSED!! Your bacon & eggs sandwich does not have real bacon!! I respect everyone's religion but, you have an establishment that serve food, you should post that "YOU DO NOT SERVE PORK"!!

  • Tiaka Walker

I miss Momma.... This place went down since Momma left... French Bread is smaller and hard not no more.... The ladies in the back cant speak English and they have no proud are what they doing.... THE ORANGE STORE WENT DOWN NO MORE AWARDS THERE SMH …

  • Giezelle Alexis

Not what it used to be. I'd do the teriyaki chicken again NO extra sauce is needed extra green onions. My nose is extremely sensitive, so that hot sausage poorboy I was craving really disappointed me. I was catching a whiff of a little sour

  • redXtensionsofme

Just paid $10 for a sandwich with a single slice of deli roast beef on it. Last time I got fries I just threw them in the trash because they were literally trash. The shrimp poboy is still killer though. These must be new owners operating

  • p dickens

Not what it used to be. You've been warned. I used to eat at this store a lot when the Asian family owned and ran the business (90's, pre and post Katrina.) Mommy as the locals called her was the chef/owner who put this place on the map.

  • CouraygeousTV

Ordered for a small group over the phone, I took my time to communicate how each sandwich should be made, the guy was having a hard time understanding (he doesn’t know what Having a sandwich dressed means) how do you have po boys in new

  • overton duncan

I love their Teriyaki wings with fries or rice but either one I add teriyaki sauce on the fries or rice. Food is always fresh and they have almost every drink possible to go with your food. I like the Orange store.

  • staxx on dek

This place is one of the cities best places to eat for locals ..if u are visiting and stumble upon this little corner store consider yourself lucky....wings poboys burgers etc...whatever u order ..CANT GO WRONG!!!

  • M Eli6

The food wasn't really good & the place was dirty & with cardboard covering the broken floor wasn't any better. The area was super sketchy & had some homeless ppl hanging out right outside just watching people.

  • Olivia Samples

Well this place doesn't look like much the food is bomb! The owner hooked us up with tons of shrimp and fish for our po boys. It was quick. Couldn't ask for anything more. They even have a cold EBT menu.

  • DeeDee Humphrey

Best Po Boys in Town. French Bread is Not soft in the outside. When you bite into a po boy from the Orange Store, the crispiness of that bread, l8ke no other. Crispy on the outside soft on the inside.

  • DWBonny

Exceptionally tasty shrimp po-boy on crispy French bread, so big that half was plenty. The only trouble is that I now have one of those MSG-induced headaches, so I won’t be getting shrimp there again.

  • Mustang Demi Vs The World

Highly upset. Ordered 2 French hot sausage poboys asked for light mayo received 2 poboys literally oozing mayo, so much that you couldn’t wipe it off bread was soggy. It’s a hard NO for me

  • Nancy Harman

Terrible service, waited too long for a bkst sandwich. And outside, the sidewalk is a disaster waiting to happen, coming from their kitchen door... I went there once, never going back!

  • Celena Armstead

This place is horrible. The wait for food take extremely long. And the food is trash! STAY AWAY from this establishment! You can find better food and service from another corner store.

  • E R

Always, I mean always hits the right side of the belly! Spicy Teriyaki Wings × fries with pots of green onion Best in the World. & The prices are for everyman's budget. 6/5 stars!

  • Rita Barard

Love the store, can find everything I'm looking for. You need more floor help for senior citizens. And you need employees who respect your people who are buying in your store.

  • Melinda Staples

I'm a MISSISSIPPI girl and I enjoyed my shrimp po'boy on last night. Those were the biggest shrimps I ever had and the bread was amazingly fresh! I will be visiting again!

  • Travis Beraud

Cheeseburger poboy with grilled onions was pretty good. Other options may be just as good if not better because there were a lot of people getting lunch from there today.

  • Daisy Sewell

I'm from St. Louis, MO and I have to say, the po'boys here are fantastic! Prolly my favorite meal. The picnic tables make the spot. Thank you for the great experience

  • Diana Watson

The fried chicken is soooo effing gooood! Yes, it takes a while to get your order, as it is cooked to order, but it's totally worth the wait. Also, get the egg rolls.

  • Chris Tucker

New owners have changed the batter (not crispy and light, heavier crunch and chewy) and now you get half as many shrimp. A real shame another Marigny staple gone.

  • Nira Cooper

The hot sausage sandwich on french bread dressed is absolutely my favorite item on the menu to get! If you haven't checked them out, I suggest you try them.

  • Calliope TaDaryl

The only thing I can say was I was in the store for 2 minutes listening to the staff talk real rude to elderly lady and I just got enough and walked out

  • Royale Rose IG NOEXCUSES_88
