The University of Adelaide (informally Adelaide University) is a public university located in Adelaide, South Australia. Established in 1874, it is the third-oldest university in Australia. The university's main campus is located on North Terrace in the Adelaide city centre, adjacent to the Art Gallery of South Australia, the South Australian Museum and the State Library of South Australia. The university has four campuses, three in South Australia: North Terrace campus in the city, Roseworthy campus at Roseworthy and Waite campus at Urrbrae, and one in Melbourne, Victoria. The university also operates out of other areas such as Thebarton, the National Wine Centre in the Adelaide Park Lands, and in Singapore through the Ngee Ann-Adelaide Education Centre. The University of Adelaide is composed of five faculties, with each containing constituent schools. These include the Faculty of Engineering, Computer, and Mathematical Sciences (ECMS), the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of the Professions, and the Faculty of Sciences. It is a member of the Group of Eight and the Association of Commonwealth Universities. The university is also a member of the Sandstone universities, which mostly consist of colonial-era universities within Australia. The university is associated with five Nobel laureates, constituting one-third of Australia's total Nobel Laureates, and 110 Rhodes scholars. The university has had a considerable impact on the public life of South Australia, having educated many of the state's leading businesspeople, lawyers, medical professionals and politicians. The university has been associated with many notable achievements and discoveries, such as the discovery and development of penicillin, the development of space exploration, sunscreen, the military tank, Wi-Fi, polymer banknotes and X-ray crystallography, and the study of viticulture and oenology. On 2 July 2010, the university officially implemented its "Smoke-Free Policy". This move was the culmination of an anti-smoking agenda headed by Professor Konrad Jamrozik and subsequently, following Jamrozik's death, the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Professor Justin Beilby. Security have the right to eject people smoking within the university buildings and also fine people smoking in the gardens or walkways. It is the first higher education institution in South Australia to institute a smoke-free policy. The North Terrace campus has been smoke-free since July 2010, it was planned that the Waite and Roseworthy campuses would be smoke-free by 2011, and the university's residential facilities have also been made smoke-free. In June 2018, University of Adelaide and University of South Australia began discussions regarding the possibility of a merger. The proposition was described as the formation of a "super uni" by Steven Marshall and Simon Birmingham, but the merger was called off in October 2018. The University of Adelaide consistently features in the top 150 international universities as ranked by the Academic Ranking of World Universities, the QS World University Rankings, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, and the U.S. News & World Report] situating it securely in the top 1% of ranked universities worldwide. The university's natural sciences, veterinary sciences, nursing, and life sciences and medicine, in particular, are ranked in the top 100 in the 2020 QS World University Rankings by Subject 2020.

The University of Adelaide is a public university located in Adelaide, South Australia. Established in 1874, it is the third-oldest university in Australia. The University is associated with five Nobel laureates and 104 Rhodes scholars. The main campus of the University is on North Terrace. It is bordered by the Art Gallery of South Australia, the State Library of South Australia, the South Australian Museum and the "City East" campus of the University of South Australia. The Adelaide University Medical and Dental Schools were located across Frome Road, behind the old Royal Adelaide Hospital. The hospital moved and so have the schools. The vast majority of students and staff of the University are based at the North Terrace campus, where the majority of courses are taught and schools are based. The central administration of the University and the main library, the Barr Smith Library, are both located on this campus. While many other universities have law and business schools or satellite campuses within the central business district, the University of Adelaide is unique among Australian sandstone universities for having its main presence adjacent to the main business and shopping precinct. Bonython Hall, (the great hall of the University), the Mitchell Building, the Elder Hall, the Napier building and the Ligertwood building, form the North Terrace street frontage of the campus. Bonython Hall is one of the many historic and heritage listed buildings located at the North Terrace campus. Others include the Mitchell Building, Elder Hall, and the Reading Room of the Barr Smith Library. In 2016, the university commenced work on a $1 billion, 20-year "Masterplan" for its three campuses. The masterplan envisages new facilities for all Schools, and greatly enhanced campus amenities for students, with a focus on pedestrians and cyclists, providing better, safer pathways through the campus, and eliminating vehicle traffic where possible. At North Terrace, the Schulz building will be repurposed as an on-campus residential college, with accommodation, and recreational facilities including a gym. This major transformation of the university's physical presence across all campuses comes in conjunction with the multimillion-dollar renewal and redevelopment of the old Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) site on North Terrace. In 2016, the RAH moved to the West end of North Terrace, in the $4 billion South Australian Health and Biomedical Precinct (SAHBP), at which the University of Adelaide also has a physical presence in the form of the Adelaide Health and Medical Sciences Building.

I have been a full-time student at uni sa but not at Adelaide University. I must say however that I would recommend Adelaide university over University of South Australia. The Adelaide University helped me with Mathematics at their maths department where my own university at city east city west and even at their maths department all the way out at Mawson lakes wouldn't and couldn't very sad and inconvenient. But after the Adelaide university explained they would not help again due to the fact I was not their student I understand and thank you for you'r help. I enjoyed reading Jui Hong Teoh review and I had a good similar experience at Adelaide University. They did not offer a degree within the construction industry as The university of south australia offerred which is why I studied at uni sa. In the review of A Google User here in these reviews on Adelaide University I had the same experience at University of South Australia please see my review there. Things at Adelaide University work diffently there and I would recommend joining a student union for help when needing help from Adelaide's University administration staff. I'm sorry for you'r experience A Google User as I suffered this at Uni SA. Reading throughout Adelaide University reviews it seems a much better University to study at. Also my time spent there studying part time I noticed a remarkable difference in student behaviour in their conduct about their own studies much more studious than uni sa students. I hope this review helps and my small star mark is only because I was not their full time student so I am being cautious but you can read my uni sa review. All the best for future studies and or even none uni students such as Jui Hong Teoh whom enjoyed utilising the library at Adelaide University. Such was my time their as a none student being with my Girlfriend and other Adelaide University students back in 1996 and upto 2016 maybe again one day

The University of Adelaide was established on 6 November 1874 after a £20,000 donation by grazier and copper miner Walter Watson Hughes, along with support and donations from Thomas Elder. The university's first chancellor was Sir Richard Hanson, and the first vice-chancellor was Augustus Short. The first degree offered was the Bachelor of Arts, and the university started teaching in March 1876. John Davidson was the first Hughes professor of English literature and mental and moral philosophy. The university has a long history of championing the rights of women in higher education. It was the second university in the English-speaking world (after the University of London, 1878) to admit women on equal terms with men (1881), although women studied alongside men from the commencement of classes in 1876 and were equally eligible for all academic prizes and honours. Its first female graduate was Edith Emily Dornwell, who was also the first person in Australia to receive the degree of Bachelor of Science (BSc., 1885). The university also graduated Australia's first female surgeon Laura Fowler (MB, 1891). Ruby Davy (B.Mus., 1907; D.Mus., 1918) was the first Australian woman to receive a doctorate in music. The university was also the first to elect a woman to a university council in Australia, Helen Mayo (MBBS, 1902), in 1914.

This review concerns only the Department of education (probably Art) , namely new managers!!! I don't know how this is possible, but the managers don't know anything at all about the courses they offer. They are so incompetent in what they do!!! They could not answer my simple question, what can I do after I finish the chosen course, in what direction can I work. They don't know and don't want to know. They don't care about students at all. When I came to this Department first time, it was the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021, wonderful people worked there who knew the answer to any question. Now the best teachers have been replaced and the best people have been removed. When I finished all my subjects, they told me that this was not enough and I had to pay more, because they would not give me my documents. Although I finished all the necessary items. I could not receive my documents and I was stressed. I had to get the final documents ASAP, because I wanted to get a job. Management could not help me at all, I had to come every day to that Department and asked them what I can do. They didn't answer my questions. I hope other students will know the truth.

The North Terrace marks the top border of the Adelaide CBD, the main road before the river. On the North Terrace is situated many Adelaide landmarks including the Parliament House, The Royal Adelaide Hospital, Adelaide Casino, The State Library of South Australia and the University of Adelaide. I was only in senior school at the time, but somehow found myself spending a lot of time here, particularly wandering the grounds of the University of Adelaide. One of my cousins was studying here at the time and there are times when I would follow her here. The buildings are beautiful, the libraries amazing and they have this amazing university bookstore that I love spending time in. Yeah, I was a weird nerdy kid. But it was my way of escape. The University itself is the 3rd oldest in Australia and at one point, was one of my major choices for where I would have ended up studying. Too bad Adelaide felt too slow for me but I do love the campus here. I used to spend time in the Barr Smith Library, just watching other university students go about campus life, counting down towards my turn at university.

The University of Adelaide is one of Australia's most research-intensive institutions. A 1700-year-old Roman glass cup is inspiring University of Adelaide researchers in their search for new ways to exploit nanoparticles and their interactions with light. Researchers in the University's Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS) are investigating how to best embed nanoparticles in glass - instilling the glass with the properties of the nanoparticles it contains. "Nanoparticles and nanocrystals are the focus of research around the world because of their unique properties that have the potential to bring great advances in a wide range of medical, optical and electronic fields," says Associate Professor Heike Ebendorff-Heidepriem, Senior Research Fellow in the University's School of Chemistry and Physics. "A process for successfully incorporating nanoparticles into glass, will open the way for applications like ultra low-energy light sources, more efficient solar cells or advanced sensors that can see inside the living human brain."

Please avoid to study in this university. It has amazing bad teaching quality in Engineering Computing Mathematics and Science faculty. I am studying more than 14h per day, because the lecturer and tutor are really unprofessional and useless. Most of lecturers are helpless and wasted our time. Although some lecturers and tutors are good, it feel like picking cherry from trash bins. Most of your time you have to study yourself and hard to find help from school. Especially if you enrol into high level course, most of course coordinator are pride and show no patient when you ask for help. Some unit coordinator(lecturer) try to evade their responsibility and transfer it on their tutors and students.North Terrace campus is small and old. Some facilities in that campus has broken that wait for student report. UoA is continually providing the worst studying experience in Group of 8.

One positive at Adelaide Uni was the PASS (peer assisted study sessions) offered in some courses. Not all universities offer these in their courses and they should. Not all students have a group of peers or friends to study with as everyone is so busy these days. Nothing better for learning than going over concepts with a group of fellow students in a calm and civil manner. Due to health issues I have not managed to finish my Accounting degree, however I will say that the academic learning at Adelaide was thorough. What I have never liked is arrogant attitudes from academic staff. This can occur across all areas of academia. Academic bullying is also something to watch out for if pursuing a degree and further study.

  • Eric Inglis

I've finished up a bachelors and honours at Adelaide and now im dealing with some other universities I'm realizing my experience wasn't as bad as I thought. The massive positive of Adelaide is the student services team. Always helpful and I always got any issues sorted. However, i didn't have the best academic experience. Allbiet, my understanding is that its still the best in SA. I wouldn't come here if you plan to be the best in your field. But they will take care of you and you will get educated in a relatively cheap and easy to live city. P.S. If you want to go to uni for social life, go to another state.

  • See it

I can only comment on the grounds. An inviting and peaceful location in the heart of the city of Adelaide. There are many outdoor areas for study, relaxation or to just sit and have a snack. This campus is large. I recommend you access a map to make your visit more enjoyable. You can walk from North Terrace, heading north, through the campus to access the River Torrens area. Even an Australia Post outlet. Wheelchair ♿ access is readily available throughout. Lovely grounds to wander through or stop and just take in all the history of the beautiful old buildings.

  • Meg Ryan

The quality of education dropped in even the time I was there. I went from having a complete timetable filled with classes to only needing to attend twice a week - classes were cut, quality dropped, more learning material was made online and generic. If you need a qualification, sure, university will do it for you. If you want to learn, you're better of using free resources on the internet. Or, spend $30,000 on private tutors. At least that way you'd get 1:1 support for your learning.

The University of Adelaide is a world-class research and teaching institution. The university of Adelaide is the third oldest university of Australia. Adelaide has produced over 100 Rhodes Scholars, including Australia’s first indigenous recipient, and has five Nobel Laureates among its distinguished alumni. We attract academic staff who are global leaders in their field, and our 27,000 students from more than 90 countries are some of the best and brightest in the world.

  • Ashraf LZ

This is a terrible University if you intend to study something like computer science or anything of value really. Low paid staff, obscene student to tutor ratio, the fact that I’m learning more from google than my actual coursework. If you want to waste money on a vice chancellor that wants to gut the education system and combine faculties to stretch an already thin system even thinner be my guest. I suggest look somewhere else this decade. PLEASE.

  • Izumi Nakano

One of my lecturer likes to find problems in our class :) He likes to slide into conclusion without surveying. For example, I used 10 days without insufficient sleep to do an essay, he said he has strong suspicion of outside assistance (of course I'm not the first person he told me). I feel unfair how he treats all those innocent students. He should punish those students that go against academic integrity rules. Not the whole class

  • June Howard

Best place to go to university in Australia in my opinion, for undergrad at least. The campus is just beautiful, it manages to blend the feel of the timeless historic buildings together with the modern facilities and schools. The university's diverse set of students is full of friendly and passionate individuals wanting to learn. Adelaide gets nothing short of 5 stars from me!

  • Minsung Chun

Currently studying master of mechanical engineering here. Nice campus with warm staff. Some places are unable to access if you are not a student of the faculty after 6 o’clock on weekdays or whole weekends. The teaching styles of professors are all different but normally satisfied with them. If you are looking for a better future, be better prepared.

  • Rexdex 1234

Very cold atmosphere. The lecturers say there are no stupid questions but when you ask questions. They make you feel stupid and don't explain the concepts very well to students with Autism. If they still don't understand there is no one-on-one support. To help those students understand the concepts taught there.

  • No Name

The university has let down it's staff and students, and pushes a view of cynicism over optimism. In particular, I cannot stand with a board of directors that disregard the wellbeing of its students, casual tutors, admin staff and full academic staff. It is time for a change!

  • Millie Tizzard

Was repeatedly gaslit and lied to by my professor. I submitted multiple complaints at various levels of seniority and have not received a single response. Conservative university with outdated curriculum designed to maintain Adelaide's weird private school hierarchy. Avoid.

  • Michael McRoberts

Can’t say I have studied here but the grounds are just lovely! Plenty of green open spaces, a mix of historic and modern buildings combined with some lovely architecture as well! Well worth a walk around particularly if you have a hour or so to soak in the details!

  • Achievers Point

The University of Adelaide is one of Australias leading research-intensive universities and is ... Guidance throughout his or her chosen course of study. A beautiful place to study with beautiful campus and atmosphere which gives u positive vibes to study there.

  • Raj Singh

A great university with a proud track record of having produced outstanding researchers and scholars. A location within the city centre makes it easily accessible. The campus in the city centre is within easy walking distance to buses, trams and trains.

  • brenton short

Like all Australian universities this one is chronically underfunded, under staffed and under appreciated. I could taste the low staff morale in an otherwise good coffee, and the smell of a 9% NHMRC grant success rate left quite a bitter after-taste.

  • Lu Liu

Beautiful campus, long history and many outstanding talents. Founded in 1874,The University of Adelaide is the third university in Australian history and the oldest university in South Australia. The North Terrace campus is located beside

Remember when the first wave of COVID hit in 2020 and you didn't pay me and my colleagues for 9 weeks into the 12 week term? And when we voiced concerns, do you remember the Arts Department sending us threatening emails to "stop working

  • 1l

Full of racist group and individuals. Not so qualified staff who can’t even speak English properly. Not worth the money and time. Expensive tuition yet not so recognisable degree internationally. In one word.... regret to study there

  • Student Adelaide

I would never recommend The University of Adelaide to anyone. Full of racist and unqualified academic staff. Majority of international students experience racial discrimination. It is a waste of time and money to study there.

  • Kaiwen Thompson

When I visited Adelaide I had a walk around this campus. It was very beautiful and the facilities looked very good and that they would accommodate students very well. The food was also very nice from the few places I tried.

  • N C

I never recommend this university. Many racist supervisors and academic staff especially in civil and environmental group. Unfair atmosphere for internatinal students. Please don't waste your time and money there...

  • Gabriel Evangelista

A 19 year old Commerce student was hospitalised by a mounted police attack during a student demonstration to protect university funding. Students love the Uni but the University doesn't care about its students.

  • Matt Welsby

Thinclab is a great innovation centre for tomorrow's businesses and mass employment opportunites with good facilities and 1st level founder support programs, mentors and like minded contemporary disruptors.

You Am I at the unibar. A right of passage no one should pass up, young or old. Tim & the boys can still rock out. Like a fine wine. Great prices for drinks, only negative was the trek to the toilets.

Campus looks better than ever, beware the uni is closed until after the new years, students still have access to the hub with a valid student ID!

  • A S

One of the best research universities in Australia. But I really think it needs to increase the entry requirements for international students.

  • Stephen Morley

Undergraduates as tutors and markers for other undergraduates is not appropriate for either student. Surely funds havent been cut that much?
