If you are fortunate to be in this space by yourself— to sit in silence and l et the light and atmosphere envelope you — you will understand the power of Kelly’s design. It is a small cruciform shape with elements that suggest a spiritual space. Powerful place—if you are open to it.

Ellsworth Kelly's art sucks. There i said it. Its a cool building I suppose, but it's about as soulless as the rest of his work(which is taking up an absurd amount of space in the Blanton). I think the space would be far better used displaying some actual talent.

Astonishing juxtaposition of an Ancient Greek temple merged with a pop art Igloo plopped down on the edge of the UT Austin campus. It seemingly fell out of the sky as if willed by Zeus and proudly sits there basking in all its glory. Never disappoints!

Think of this as very similar to a James Turrell skyspace where it's about the experience of being present in a space. This is included with admission to the art museum, and you must check in to the art museum first (free for students; up

I think that, since it's listed as a museum/ at gallery, a lot of people go in with the wrong expectations. Think of it as a modern sculpture that is a building. One way to look at it is by imagining the stained glass as paint, creating

Nice quiet space. Avoid going on an overcast day. It’s probably more interesting to see the shapes of the colors cast onto the walls when the sun is not diffused by clouds and is at an angle that is not directly above the building.

Big letdown and not worth it. The “paintings” inside are just black and white single stripes with different angles which are not at all interesting. The colored glass is ok but there is hardly any of it. Disappointed.

What a mesmerizing building in heart of Austin. Colorful light pierces through the windows and lights up the interior like it’s Vegas. Tall ceilings make your voice bounce and echo. Highly recommend visiting it. More

“Austin” Ellsworth Kelly’s last work and only building. Artist insists this is not a church, even though it is a crossed shape, since it serves no religious function. Kelly envisioned “Austin” as a site for joy and

Open Wednesday through Sunday 10-1 then 2-5. Closed on Saturdays with a home football game. Walk around, appreciate the Ellsworth Kelly art and building. The colored light filtered through the windows is amazing!

Although this was my second visit, I was just as enthralled and delighted as the first. The use of light, color and space is so fun and unexpected. This feels like a sacred space for contemplation and reflection.

This place is so peaceful and amazing to see on a sunny day. The sun will shift and the lights will change if your in there long enough. Went around 3 pm in spring and the lights were beautiful by the door.

An amazing experience. I wish I could have been alone in this spiritual setting. My only disappointment was that I went on a cloudy day. So I didn't experience the full effect of the windows.

Absolutely love this art installation, so unique and stands out. It elevates the Blanton museum as well as UT! Definitely check it out, love the new facelift of the area! More

Beautiful installation. We went on a rather cloudy day and it was still spectacular. Will have to revisit on a sunny day. The Blanton in its entirety was impressive. More

This installation is really beautiful and is a lively space to spend so time ad part of your Blanton visit. Make sure you get your ticket at the main entrance.

I love unique art, but I can't understand why this is rated so highly. I can only assume that a lot of ppl haven't seen colored glass before.

  • Chen Jan

Nice and small place, but I really couldn’t understand any deeper things behind it. Not much explanation in the building.

The chapel by Ellsworth Kelly is simply majestic. It's definitely worth a visit when at the Blanton Museum of Art. More

Really interesting to visit. I read several articles online since the actual location doesn't offer much information.
