De eerste vermelding van een Heiligdom dateert uit de 14de-eeuw. In 1309 besloten de toekomstige Keizer Hendrik VII en zijn echtgenote Margaretha van Brabant er een kerk te stichten , gekoppeld aan een hospitaal. In 1311 werd de kerk gewijd aan de Maagd Maria en de Heilige Johannes de Doper. In de 16de-eeuw , toen de benictijner monniken uit Altmünster zich in Grund vestigden , werd de hospitaalkerk geïntegreerd in het nieuwe complex van de abdij van Neumünster. Tussen 1606 en 1618 werd een nieuwe kerk gebouwd. Deze werd verwoest tijdens het beleg van het fort in 1684 en vanaf 1688 herbouwd volgens plannen Hubert Laloir. Het huidige Heiligdom dateert dus uit de 17de-eeuw. Het rijke barokke meubilair is niet origineel , maar werd na de Franse Revolutie uit andere kerken geborgen

Questa chiesa benedettina si presenta in stile barocco, eccetto il portale dal gusto rinascimentale, con numerose decorazioni, meravigliose vetrate colorate e la statua di una Madonna nera col bambino risalente al Trecento. L'edificio fu costruito tre volte, l'ultima delle quali in seguito all'incendio nel 1684: un ulteriore ampliamento risale al 1720. Esternamente alla navata sinistra, vi è un piccolo sentierino che fiancheggia l'edificio e passa accanto al fiume.

Quelle belle église. Oserais-je dire la plus belle de la ville du Luxembourg? Mais les fans de la Cathédrale vont m'en vouloir. Bel intérieur baroque, bon d'accord des autels proviennent d'autres établissements religieux mais cela ne nuit en rien au charme de l'église. A ne pas rater la Vierge Noire. A noter l'entretien impeccable de l'édifice. Un must pour tous les amateurs d'art religieux et les autres également qu'il ne faut pas oublier.

L'Église Saint-Jean de Grundes de Luxembourg : une merveille architecturale imprégnée d'histoire, où grandeur et sérénité se rencontrent. Vitraux colorés, ambiance magique et beauté envoûtante vous y attendent. Une visite inoubliable pour les amateurs d'art sacré et les curieux en quête de contemplation.

Beautiful church that has incredible stained glass windows and architecture. To the left of the main entrance is a small path alongside the river which offers lovely views and gives you access to climb up an assortment of concrete and metal stairs, next to ancient city walls. Entrance to the church is of course free and definitely worth visiting!

Un lieu spécial, les routes, les ponts, les rivières se croisent suivant les altitudes, il faut bien connaître sont chemin, même avec une carte ce n'est pas toujours facile, les habitants quelquefois peuvent aider. L'église est au fond de la vallée autrefois ouvrière puis touristique elle est toujours présente.

Merveilleuse église. C'est étonnant le calme à l'intérieur, on entend aucun bruit. La température est très agréable à l'intérieur. C'est parfait pour la prière car elle n'est pas trop fréquentée. Normalement il y a la messe vendredi à 9h.

Hoe mooi en anders is het hier in de Grund van Luxemburg, weg van het lawaai en even door stille plekjes wandelen en wat drinken op een terrasje voordat je langs de rivier gaat wandelen en je even in de Middeleeuwen waant.

Location meravigliosa... vista d'estate per il jazz festival ( una vera figata di concerti gratuiti), d'inverno.autuno e primavera....una bella pizza e si sta veramente bene

Due to its temporary closure, I did not see the inside of the church. The church is a Catholic Church located in Luxembourg city. The exterior is very beautiful.
