It was constructed in memory of an antelope named Mansraj that was beloved by the emperor. The memorial tower stands 30 meters high and is 10 meters wide at its base. Around the perimeter are 214 holes that are believed to have been used as supports for the severed heads of animal trophies taken by the emperor. This form and function is similar to an earlier tower, also known as Hiram Minar, built at Fatepur Sikri. It also resembles the Nim Serai Minar at Malda, whose projections may have been used in a similar manner to display the captured heads of local rebels. To the east of the tower is an enormous rectangular tank with an octagonal baradari at its center. The baradari was used as a royal retreat by the emperor and is accessible via a bridge extending west toward the tower. Small pavilions mark the corners of the tanks and feature pyramidal roofs with entrances on four sides. On each side of the tank are shallow ramps that allow wildlife in the hunting park easy access to the water. The water level was maintained using a series of channels and catchment basins leading to the site. Unlike nearby Lahore, the surrounding countryside is thinly populated and remains largely rural. A belt of forest surrounds the site, further insulating it from the modern environment, allowing the visitor to experience the Mughal garden in a landscape that has changed relatively little since its inception.

Hiran Minar (Urdu: ہرن مینار; or "The Deer Tower") is an early 16th-century Mughal era complex located in Sheikhupura, in the Pakistani province of Punjab. The complex was built at the site of a game reserve in honour of Mughal Emperor Jahangir's beloved antelope named Mansraj. The emperor is remembered for his fondness of nature, and his complex embodies the Mughal relationship between humans, pets, and hunting. Location The Hiran Minar complex is located in the city of Sheikhupura, about 40 kilometers northwest of Lahore. The complex is located near the Sheikhupura Fort, which also dates from the early 17th century. Both sites are accessible from Lahore via the M2 Motorway, which connects Lahore to the Islamabad. History Hiran Minar was built during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Jahangir in a hunting reserve used by the Mughal royals. The reserve was built in a scrub forest and allowed Mughal emperors to experience a sense of semi-wilderness near the imperial city of Lahore. The wild reserve was used as a park where visitors could enjoy the sport of hunting. The minaret itself was built in 1606 C.E. as a monument to Emperor Jahangir's beloved pet antelope, Mansiraj, or "Lord of All Animal Beings". The practice of building such tomb-markers over the skulls of game animals is an ancient Persian custom. The minaret and tank were soon accompanied by a larger pavilion, built during the reign of Shah Jahan. Layout The complex consists of a Jahangir-era minaret situated next to a larger Shah Jahan-era complex. Minaret The Jahangir-era minaret stands 110 metres tall and was built in 1606 C.E. as a tomb marker for the emperor's pet antelope, Minsraj. The sides of the minar are inscribed with a eulogy to the pet antelope. Pool A massive rectangular water-tank pool measuring 229 meters by 273 meters lies at the heart of the complex. At the center of each side of the tank, a brick ramp slopes down to the water, providing access for wild game that were sought by hunters. Pavilion The two-Storey pavilion is topped by stone chhatri. An octagonal pavilion built during the reign of Shah Jahan is at the center of the pool. The pavilion is two-storied and is topped by a rooftop chhatri that served as a stone gazebo. The pavilion's architecture is similar to the Sher Mandal at Delhi's Purana Qila, built by Emperor Humayun. The pavilion was surrounded not only by the water tank, but also semi-wilderness. The pavilion was thus likely used for recreational purposes. Causeway A causeway spans the pool to connect the minaret with the pavilion along an axis which passes through a gateway. Hydraulics Unique features of this particular complex are the antelope's grave and the distinctive water collection system. At each corner of the tank (approximately 750 by 895 feet (273 m) in size), is a small, square building and a subsurface water collection system which supplied the water tank; only one of these water systems is only extensively exposed today.

A truly historic place and totally worth your while to drive out from Lahore. One of those historical attractions that comprise the Greater Lahore area. It's tucked away in its own compound. Peaceful and quiet. Easily accessible from Motorway M-2. Has its own restaurant. A canteen for food. A play area. Enjoy history as you walk about the place or take a boat ride on the pool. Go during daytime. its a nice place to get refreshed, don't forget to get your eatable and drinks with you. crowded on vocations and holidays, you can enjoy boating (motor boat and paddle boat). if you want to spend a good day in winter or a windy evening in summer with family & friends its a good place to be The central minaret is closed for public. Needs ministry approval for entrance. The surrounding water has rented paddling and motorized boats as attraction. The place has ample space for BBQ partying, reasonably clean restroom. A few swings and trampoline for kids. Easy access from M2. As usual a lot of litter... کھلے جو ایک دریچے میں آج حسن کے پھول تو صبح جھوم کے گل زار ہو گئی یک سر جہاں کہیں بھی گرا نور ان نگاہوں سے ہر ایک چیز طرح دار ہو گئی یک سر ہرن مینار جہانگیر پورہ کی بنیاد مغل شہنشاہ جہانگیر نے رکھی جو اب شیخو پورہ کے نام سے مشہور ہے۔ 1605ء سے 1627ء تک شہنشاہ جہانگیر کے عہد میں اس شہر کو شاہی شکارگاہ کی حیثیت حاصل تھی۔ یہاں موجود بلند وبالا مینار جہانگیر نے اپنے پالتو ہرن کی قبر کے ساتھ 1607ء میں تعمیر کروایا۔ مینار کی تعمیر ایک دائرے کی شکل میں کی گئی جو بلندی کی طرف جاتے ہوئے چھوٹا ہوتا جاتا ہے۔ یہ مینار 103 فٹ اونچا اور قدرے مخروطی شکل کا ہے، اور چھ متوازی حصوں میں تقسیم کیا گیا ہے۔ اس کا زمینی حصہ 33 فٹ کے گھیرے میں ہشت پہلو ہے جبکہ دوسرے حصے گولائی دار ہیں۔ مینار کی بیرونی سطح پر چودہ قطاروں میں یکساں فاصلوں پر 210 سوراخ بنائے گئے ہیں۔ مینار پر چڑھنے کے لیے 108 گھومتی سیڑھیاں ہیں۔ مینار کو اندرونی اور بیرونی طرف چونے سے مکمل طور پر پلاستر کیا گیا ہے، جبکہ اس کے نچلے حصے میں محرابی طاقچے اور ابھرتے ہوئے افقی پٹوں سے مزین کیا گیا ہے۔ ہرن مینار کے مشرقی حصے میں ایک وسیع و عریض تالاب تعمیر کیا گیا ہے۔ تالاب کے وسط میں واقع ہشت پہلو بارہ دری تک پہنچنے کے لیے 21 محرابوں پر مشتمل راستہ بھی تعمیر کیا گیا ہے۔ یہ بارہ دری شہنشاہ جہانگیر کے حکم پر ہرن مینار کی تعمیر کے 13 سال بعد 1620ء میں تعمیر کی گئی۔ مغل شہنشاہ شاہجہان نے اپنے دور میں اس بارہ دری اور تالاب کے اندر متعدد تبدیلیاں کروائیں۔ جس پر 1638ء میں تقریباً 80000 روپے خرچ ہوئے۔ اسی وسیع تالاب کے چاروں کونوں پر مربع شکل کے خوبصورت کمرے تعمیر کیے گئے ہیں۔ یہ وسیع تالاب مستطیل شکل میں تعمیر کیا گیا، جس کی لمبائی 895 فٹ اور چوڑائی 752 فٹ ہے۔ اس کے چاروں طرف 65 فٹ چوڑے گھاٹی دار حصے موجود ہیں جو کہ جنگلی جانوروں کی پیاس بجھانے کے لئے تعمیر کیے گئے۔ تالاب کے تمام اطراف مختصر قامت کی حفاظتی دیوار بھی تعمیر کی گئی۔ مغلیہ عہد میں ایک نالہ اور ایک نہر تالاب کو پانی مہیا کرنے کے لیے تعمیر کی گئی،جو شمالی طرف دیکھی جا سکتی ہے۔ مزید برآں تالاب کو بارش کے پانی سے بھرنے کے لیے بھی ایک جامع نظام تعمیر کیا گیا۔ Cherish Riders Tribe Hiran Minar Shaikhupura Architecture & Design Muslim architecture Heritage Culture Trip Tourist Attractions

A veryyy Good place family picnic and For holidays. A huge Rush of people's visit om every event of Pakistan. All the two eids are celebrated by lots of people there. Every eid thousands of people came there on the first, second and the third day of eid. There is also a tuck shop but i suggest you to buy things like lays and cold drink outside. because there all the things are expensive. There is a forest which is bounded now and closed for peoples. Many big trees where people make picnics. There is also boats ride in the midle pond. Recently Government started work on making a zoo in it. which is under construction and hope very that will be opened for public. People of sheikhupura and nearby will also enjoy the Zoo animals. we hope that hirans, monkeys, different type of spareows, parrots and tigers will be there in zoo.Hiran Minar is the best place of sheikhupura for family tour and picnic and very good place for kids. there is play lands for kids like slides and jumps etc. There is also a mosque in it. Beautiful trees, charming flowers and the layers of water makes your moment beautiful. For few months ago the bara dari of hiran minar has been closed for public. no one allowed to go inside. The tower of hiran minar near the grave of hiran also repairrd again recently now it is in good condition . but it is also closed from the last 6 years. I have visited many times and all the times i love this place and never bored from it. This place is the favorite place of sheikhupura people specially for the kids. All the kids loved to go there and almost on every Week many kids came there to enjoy their weekend. There is a big parking stand for cars and moter bikes . Wheel chair is also accessible there. Entry Ticket price of hiran minar for youngs is 30 rupees and kids are free there they do not need any ticket. For boating kids are not allowed except if you are with family on big boat. For youngsters boating ticket is 120 rupees for each.

This review is based on my experience, place itself is beautiful. This is the first time I visited with my family. What motivated us to visit this place was mainly the point in the middle of the water, But sadly it was locked. So you're not allowed to go there which is a big setback. Secondly, The door of the minaret was also locked. You cannot go up there to enjoy a view. When asked, someone told me it is locked because of couple of suicide attempts in the past which is somewhat justified. Thirdly, if you're going there from Lahore and you have family with you, you can expect people to stare at your family members. This made me comfortable and we decided to leave a bit early. I was expecting some good restaurant over there which was not the case. I suggest you bring your own meal. If you're traveling from Lahore, I suggest you take motorway as you will enjoy the travel. Place have so many beautiful views which is perfect for photography. There is ample parking space available outside which is a good thing. Ticket charges are 50 rupees each for older than 3 years. I visited in October but the weather was still a bit hot.

A historical place built in the honor of Mughal Emperor Jahangir's remembrance of his beloved antelope named Mansraj. It is not as much exciting and well-maintained place, as depicted on the motorway boards. Some of the grounds required grass mowing, while some public toilets are also not operational and locked. Since the area contains a large amount of water and lots of greenery, it is a wonderland for the mosquitos to breed and bite. Thus, frequent fumigation is required to prevent malaria and dengue to visitors, especially those wearing t-shirts . Informational material can be provided to the visitors at the ticketing booth about the history of this park and some safety instructions regarding clothing, swimming in the water, and high towers. The Free Services for Public should be labeled "Free" such as electric carts, toilets, etc. Tourists Guides would be a great help who can explain the historical significance of the place to the guests.

If you’re driving from Lahore, you can take the Lahore-Sheikhupura Road to reach Hiran Minar. The distance between the two is about 50 kilometres, and the journey takes about an hour by car. You can also take a bus from Lahore to Sheikhupura, which takes around two hours. If you’re travelling from Islamabad, on the other hand, you can take the M2 Motorway. It's always exciting to visit this historical place. Literally holds a romance of its own. This time I was able to work on a project documentary here and was able to feel the aura & depth of this place at a different level of engagement. Loved it!

Build in 1607 by Mughal emperor. To be honest good place. Green lush green grounds. But it was not clearly managed. To much wear and tear, totally uncomfortable. Cleaning totally 0. Dustbin are there but people even don't care. Security yes there. Cops there everywhere. The are peddle boats ⛵ which cost 100Rs for 20 mints. Not that clean water but don't know if it is ever cleaned. Swimming is not allowed, however, the depth is not too much. There were only four deer there. Not sure if that was zoo premises or just a cage. Not that divers people were there. Seems local families or individuals. Food stalls are there but better to have your own food. Entrance ticket ️ was 30 each. For timing not sure. Good time to visit, clouds ☁️️ or rainy. Else to hot . Bring drinking water bottle .

Historical garden and lake with fishing facility. ہرن مینار پاکستان کی ایک تاریخی جگہ ہے۔ یہاں اگر موٹر وے سے آئیں تو ہرن مینار انٹرچینج سے آسانی سے آیا جا سکتا ہے۔ مغل شہنشاہ جہانگیر نے اس کی تعمیر کرائی تھی اپنے شکار کے شوق کے لئے، جب بھی کوئی شہزادہ یا بادشاہ لاہور آتے تو یہاں شکار کے لئے آتے۔ یہ شیخوپورہ میں واقع ہے جو اس وقت ایک جنگل تھا اور یہاں بہت ہرن رہتے تھے۔ شہنشاہ جہانگیر کا ایک پسندیدہ ہرن اس جگہ مر گیا تھا جس کی یاد میں یہ خوبصورت عمارت تعمیر کی گئی۔ اس جگہ اب فیملیز آوٹنگ کے لئے آتی ہیں ، یہاں ایک اچھا ریسٹورنٹ بھی ہے اور چائے کافی بھی دستیاب ہے۔ مچھلی کا شکار بھی کیا جا سکتا ہے جس کے لئے اجازت نامہ آسانی سے ہرن مینار میں 50 روپے میں مل جاتا ہے۔ اس کے علاوہ بوٹنگ بھی کی جا سکتی ہے۔ موٹر بوٹ بھی ہے اور پیڈل بوٹ بھی دستیاب ہے۔ اچھا رومنٹک دن گزارنے کے لیے بہت اچھی جگہ ہے۔

The story behind the monument put me off as it reflected the priorities and, as history is told, the eventual demise of the empire. The monument can only be seen from the outside. The door to the stairs of the minaret is locked. The grave of the royal deer is also bricked and nothing can be seen. The Bara Dari is majestic and I wonder what the royals used to do in such a vast space. The Bara Dari is also not accessible. Even though I couldn't understand the spirit behind such a grand structure yet I remained awestruck by it's expanse, the perfection in design, engineering and craft and attention to detail. Please keep the area clean as lots of trash bins have been provided.

a perfect spot for the ‍‍‍ of Sheikhupura ️ as well as for of M2 thru dedicated interchange only 3-4 kms away. hiran minar (pic-1) was constructed in the memory of Mughal Jahangir's antelope named Mansraj 1606 at site of hunting reserve ner imperial city of Lahore . Later a whole city ️ was laid here. sheikhupura was laid by & named after Jahangir (nick: Sheikhu) 1607 CE. It was earlier called "Virk Garh" being the ⛺ of Virk tribe. nestled in a lush (pic-2 & 3) but unfortunately not kept tidy by visitors. since 1993, hiran minar is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

No words for a historic and master piece of Mughal construction. It is a beautiful building that is surrounded with beautiful gardens. Some areas are really well maintained while few areas are much neglected. Ticket is very economical i.e. Rs.20/- per person and half for children. This make it affordable to public. Even students have access to this park and many students were there at school timing. This should be monitored. Security measures did not seem enough, in case any incident there were not much arrangements of staff available. Parks need more care that will make it more valuable. It is a great place to promote tourism. Authorities should maintain the access point. Otherwise Hiran Minar is a great place as a picnic point.

Hiran minar park the Deer Tower is very beautiful and has a great park near the motorway and the cleanliness is good and the car park is very good and the main road and the inner park road are great. There is no rush of traffic. Good place to visit the old heritage of mughals. Splendid garden for making picnic parties with friends and family. And also some boat riding too for amusement. Overall best place to visit and get some enjoyment. If someone likes to walk he/ she has good option to walk the whole hiran minar park. In winter this place will be marvellous as in summer i would not recomment to visit this place due to heavy humidity and perspiration.

Amm it was a good place for young people as well as children...... actually it is a heritage sites builded by Mughal empire..... almost present inside the SHEIKHUPURA but not actually...... The authorities are well mannered and the horticulture beauty was good......there is also some food items available inside it ....also don't forget to make memories with boating inside the lake present in hiran minar IN SHORT 8.5/10

Entry fee is too much. Administration charges so much fee but they can't provide even clean drinking water. They force u to buy water from canteen. "Water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink" Shame on tourism department. Otherwise its a good place to visit with family and friends. Good place for photography. Hiran Minar is so grand and splendid. Minar is very magnificent. Loved this place.

This place needs a lot of development. It is our National heritage. This is tower constructed in the middle of a pond. This was made by Mughal king Jahangeer in the memory of his pet deer. Now this place is in the middle of a park which mostly contains bushes and wild grass. Although park is made as per proper design but it lack maintenance. This place is good for families. Not a place to specifically plan a trip for, if you are in or around sheikupura by chance the just pay a short visit.

It is a historical place. It was built by a Mughal emperor in memory of his deer. It is heard that he was unfortunately killed by the deer king's own arrow. As the king was very fond of that deer, he built the Deer Tower in memory of the deer. The deer was buried under the soil near this tower. There is also a self-contained lake within the park where you can go boating.

I visit it on and off. Sometimes I love it's cleanliness... Sometimes it's hard to believe that it is the same Hiran minaar.... Yesterday... It was the same day of dissatisfaction.... Great a place with amazing views but there is a serious problem if singles staring at families and especially females who are alone. Prices are low for boating and food items. The building it self is not being cared and is deteriorating. Parking is spacious and ticket is Rs 50.

A truly historic place and totally worth your while to drive out from Lahore. One of those historical attractions that comprise the Greater Lahore area. It's tucked away in its own compound. Peaceful and quiet. Easily accessible from Motorway M-2. Has its own restaurant. A canteen for food. A play area. Enjoy history as you walk about the place or take a boat ride on the pool.

Good place an hour drive from Lahore, visitor needs, to be more disciplined to maintain cleanliness. Basic tuck shops available. The Minar and Baradari should not be closed and open for general public. You can visit inside of these monuments if you have some connections.

Emperor Jahingir’s old royal hunting ground of Hiran Manar about 60km from Lahore. Apparently he had a pet antelope and when the antelope died, a 100 foot minaret was built near the grave site and next to that a man-made lake with a causeway to a building in the center. Another wonderfully picturesque site but it’s all a little bit over the top for an antelope.

Good site for family picnic. Excellent park and adventure if you want to drive out of Lahore to an interesting place. Go at sunset to see the place in it's glory: in daylight and after sunset in the lights. There's a cool fountain show as well. Fun activities of your own, paddle & motor boats are available there and a restaurant too...

We went there yesterday and my experience was good there. This place is good for family and friends to out. This Minar was built by emperor Jahangir in the memory of his pet . There is also a Baradari that made the place more beautiful

The actual heritage site has deteriorated significantly to the point that it is now closed to general public. The government has developed the area around it into a decent park however where you can spend an afternoon with the family.

One of the coolest place to visit. Location is very near to Lahore Islamabad Motorway. Must visit before evening till night. Nice place to sit in for long hours with your love one. There is canteen as well a small hotel with bar b q and other food option. Must visit place.

It was good to see that the grounds are well maintained. There is a short walk from the gate to minar but carts are also available incase you don't want to walk.

It's always exciting to visit this historical place. Literally holds a romance of its own. This time I was able to work on a project documentary here and was able to feel the aura & depth of this place at a different level of engagement. Loved it!

It's good historical place to visit with friends and family. You can bring your kids and enjoy the nature, and can also enjoy boat riding here.

20 Sept 2021, it was hot today, place was managed. Just a historical place open till Maghreb. Ticket 20 for elder 10 for children. Bathroom not available but only at the main building after crossing jheel.

It is a nice place and not very far from Lahore. You can have good time with your family and friends there. People were seen bringing grills for BBQ, enjoying food and playing.

If you are interested in boating on a traditional ship, it's a good place then. Hardly 5 mins drive from the motor way. Small place but a good scene in winters only.
