One of the best historical place I've ever been, it's a must visit spot for anyone who will be visiting Beijing, if you could, go on weekdays, avoid China's national holiday in September and China's summer holiday, weekends because the place will be too crowded, or you would be watching people at every turns on each side of you instead of anything else. There are a lot of walking involved because the place was incredibly huge. Like most other main tourist attractions in Beijing, it is closed on every Monday so you need to plan your journey before visiting. About the entrance tickets, it is not available for sale on spot. The easiest, cheapest and safest way for foreigners to purchase tickets would be to send an email to the official palace museum website's email with information including your passport number, name and date to book the tickets within the seven days before you visit the Palace museum. You can find the email on the ENGLISH official palace museum website, you won't find the email and this booking method if you navigate to the Chinese language section of the official website, this option is only available for non-chinese people/tourists to book tickets to the palace museum. Once you received the email reply from the palace museum officers, you only need to go to the ticket counter at the palace museum on spot and show them your passport and email screenshot to get your tickets. You can pay the tickets with any payment methods. The easiest way to survive in China is to get a China phone number and download alipay app, then you can pay for anything with the QR code in the alipay app, including the subway and bus. You should also bring an empty booklet where you can get free stamp ink seals that are truly memorable for collection. The palace museum is a must visit place!✨ There are historical clothes rental shops nearby the place where you can rent the clothes and wear them into the place for a more immersive historical travel experience. Experience the beautiful palace where the ancient emperor lived thousands years ago❤️ also, don't forget to try the delicious and wonderful afternoon dessert set served by the cafe in the palace museum especially the lychee soup. Legend has it that the empress ate it✨

As a seasoned traveler and reviewer, I recently had the privilege of exploring the iconic Forbidden City in the heart of Beijing, a historical treasure trove that served as the imperial residence for nearly five centuries. Here, I share my unique perspective and offer some insights and tips for fellow adventurers. The Forbidden City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a time capsule that transports you to the opulent world of Chinese emperors. Its sheer size and architectural grandeur are awe-inspiring. Upon entering through the imposing gates, you step into a realm of emperors and dynasties. While wandering through its intricate maze of courtyards and palatial halls, allow serendipity to guide your journey. Each corner of this vast complex holds hidden stories and cultural gems waiting to be uncovered. To make the most of your visit, consider hiring a local guide who can provide in-depth historical insights and reveal lesser-known facts about the Forbidden City. This will enhance your understanding of this imperial marvel. One of the highlights of my visit was the Hall of Supreme Harmony, a colossal structure that once hosted grand imperial ceremonies. Its intricate wooden architecture and intricate detailing are a testament to the craftsmanship of ancient China. Be prepared for crowds, especially during peak tourist seasons. Arriving early or later in the day can help you avoid the busiest times. Don't forget to explore the beautiful Imperial Garden at the rear of the complex. It's a serene oasis within the bustling city. In conclusion, the Forbidden City is not just a historical site; it's a journey back in time. It invites you to delve into the world of emperors and experience the grandeur of ancient China. Embrace the unexpected, hire a guide for a deeper understanding, and let this UNESCO World Heritage Site captivate you with its rich history and architectural splendor.

Amazing architecture with a rich history, from the 九钉门 (how only the royal doors will have 9 rows and 9 columns of 'nails') to the different functions of the various 宫殿 (太和殿,中和殿,保和殿,三宫六院) containing a total of 8,707 rooms, covering 150,000 sqm out of the 720,000 sqm premises. We entered through the middle door at 午门, which usually is used only by the Emperor, even the Empress can only enter through here once (on their wedding day, which are not many because usually most are already married before the Prince becomes Emperor). The top 3 scholars (科举的状元, 榜眼,探花) are also exceptions that are allowed to enter through the main door, once in their life when they make it to top 3 of the imperial exams. I enjoyed the place, it's breathtaking, despite the hazy weather, you can still the beauty of the architecture, the pure presence of the size (imagine how much they had to walk in the past and how they navigated this huge red-walled maze without Maps). The Emperor's throne was alttle underwhelming though, I had expected it to be bigger and more glamourous. Ended the day exiting through 神武门 after 2 hrs of walking in it.

Booking is required 7 days in advance. We used a travel agent, Klook, but you can also book directly through the government website. We took a taxi to the site, and the closest allowable drop off area (Nanheyyan Ave and East Changan Ave) was quite far from the Meridien Gate, around a 20min walk. If you take a subway to Tiananmen (exit A) it is closer around a 15 min walk. After you exit the subway, you will need to show your passport a few times to security. I had visited the Forbidden City over 20 years ago, and things have changed considerably. The crowds are ten times the size from my memory, and a few of the buildings were closed off. Despite the crowds and heavy rain, it was still an enjoyable visit, and our guide was knowledgeable and friendlly, explaining a lot of detail that is not found on the sign boards or audio guides. It took around 2-3 hours but easily could have lasted longer, but we were soaked and cold from the rain. The exit is north of the palace so plan your next site accordingly. Taxi pickups far from the gate exit, around a 15 min walk.

Is not the Forbidden City a Wonder of the World? It's one of the few places in the world, like Petra and le Mount St Michel, that blew me away so much that I had to sit down to take it all in. Stunning architecture, incredible craftsmanship and then a fascinating history to back it all. It's worth visiting Beijing just for this. Tickets are inexpensive, and unlike everywhere else in Beijing they were relatively easy to get. The official website, which you can google, is in English and can supply you with an email to show at the ticket office. Entrance to the Forbidden City is via Tiananmen Square. Walk through the tunnel under Mao's portrait and keep walking. You'll need a ticket for Tiananmen Square too. I read that if you have a Forbidden City ticket you don't need one for the square, but I got one anyway to be safe, as they are free. Ask your hotel to book one for you. If all else fails, just turn up and flash your passport. Nobody checked our ticket at security.

This is one of the top tourist attractions in Beijing. My visit to the palace museum was during winter and it was a different vibe out there with snow covered roofs and ground. You must take a note of the fact that before visiting the palace you must prebook a ticket at least 12 hours in advance and an adult ticket will cost only 7 dollars. They don’t encourage ticket issuing on premises. The palace museum marks the history of 24 emperors during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Also you should take note of the fact palace museum is located within the forbidden city and at present a visit to forbidden city == visit to the palace museum. If you are an history enthusiast i would recommend borrowing a voice guide. But if you are here for some stunning pictures then you can manage all by yourself. For the youth it has become a trend to wear like chinese princes and princesses before entering the palace.

My recent trip to the Palace Museum in Beijing was an imperial odyssey through time. Stepping through the Meridian Gate, the Forbidden City unfolded like a majestic dreamscape. Golden roofs shimmered beneath the azure sky, each tile whispering tales of dynasties past. I wandered through courtyards bathed in the hushed reverence of ancient guardians, their stone faces weathered by centuries of silent observation. Inside, throne rooms echoed with the phantom footsteps of emperors, their opulent décor a testament to vanished grandeur. My eyes feasted on exquisite porcelain treasures, intricate jade carvings, and vibrant silk tapestries, each brushstroke a brush with history. As the sun dipped behind the Jade Mountain, casting long shadows across the Forbidden City, I knew I had walked not just through a palace, but through a portal to a bygone era, leaving me forever enchanted by its splendor.

Definitely, that's the heart of Beijing City. A sample of World Heritage, preserved in a perfect shape as one of the best treasures of China legacies. If you can feel the spirit of this place, you can walk around the city, hidden in Forbidden City, in the era of Ming and Qing dynasties. A huge surface area, covered with buildings erected in a very particular and in the same time, traditional manner, extraordinary details and brilliant executed at their time. Unbelievable how they built a such big compound of building in a relatively few years. Definitely, this was an avant-garde complex at its time for entire world. Cannot miss this opportunity to visit this unique turistic spot. Tickets in advance and reservations are a must for your visit! Pay attention to this detail a couple of days before!

An absolute must go for your first visit to Beijing. To navigate the legions of local tourists and numerous entrances and checkpoints you should engage a tour guide through one of the online companies. A guide is also essential to understanding more of the history. We catered about 4hours walking tour and covered about 60% of the grounds, starting at Tiananmen and ending up at Jingshan Park (take the underpass, and pay for the separate entrance fee of 2 Chinese yuan)

The main historical site in Beijing the former imperial palace is a large site so expect walk a lot, most of the sites are outside so weather is a factor to consider. The audio guide is a must if you want to get sense of what you see , it also has a map of the place on the back. Some times the site is very crowded, is much nicer in less crowded days. There are several food / drinks options on site. drinks

The Forbidden City in Beijing is an awe-inspiring testament to China's imperial history. Its grand architecture, intricate details, and vast courtyards transport visitors to a bygone era. Navigating the imperial halls and gardens is a captivating journey through Chinese heritage. Despite the crowds, the sheer majesty of this UNESCO World Heritage site makes it an unmissable cultural treasure.

The forbidden city is a good place to see the royal palace of China since the early 15th century and to understand the palace architecture that has a much longer history. The symmetric design, the yellow and red colors, the number nine, the zoomorphic throne of dragon……All these are quite Chinese, let’s say. Of course, the administrative compound in the front and the living quarter in the back remind me the topqapi palace in Istanbul.

Spent a whole day at the Forbidden City and still not enough time to visit all the places. So much history learnt and so many part is the palaces yet to be discovered. It’s more about getting an idea of what life was like at the Forbidden City rather than the fine details of the palace (e.g. actual room tour of one of the mini palaces etc) Definitely worth visiting when in Beijing!

The palace is so big. I was so impressed how people in the past could create this amazing works. Not to mention about the king, people who made such afford to support their respect, trust and love were so respectful. The palaces in the front seemed to be more beautiful from renovation while the latter are relatively aged (which is right!) There are a bit messy from crown at the entrance. We must fight with Chinese tourists as well

  • A. A.

Its magnificent and beautiful. Must sign up for a guided tour so all buildings make sense and learn abt the interesting history of this place. Ive visited during winter -12°..but it feels like more than -20° in the palace due to the wind and the snow on the ground in certain areas. Pls bring extra warm handgloves and socks. Wear comfortable insulated shoes..for a long walk.

Forbidden city. This place needs no introduction. A must visit in Beijing. Highly recommended to book a local private guide. Saves you a lot of time from queueing - they will arrange for a striaght through service for you, and more importantly, a complete experience with detailed explanation of the museum. A must-do, must-do.

The Forbidden City of Beijing China. One of the coolest places I've ever been to. Full of history. Plenty of things to see. You can spend all day here if you wanted to. There is a really nice park located on the northern side after you exit. You'll have to climb a small mountain though to reach the top. 详情
