We were so excited to try this cafe and wine bar. I have celiac and was pleased to see a plethora of GF labeled options on the menu including bread and pizza crust and thought we stumbled across another safe option in Austin. Everything we attempted to order, clearly labeled GF on the menu, had 1-2 ingredients with wheat (ie soy sauce dressing, flour added to meatloaf and sauce, fries tossed in flour, etc) and serving staff had no idea until pressed to double check with the chef. We asked why they were mislabeled on the menu and the server said we were the tenth complaint that month about the menu errors and the owner doesn’t care. If you’re advertising yourself as allergy friendly in Austin but don’t pay attention to your menu and/or specific ingredients, these mistakes are going to get you sued and/or make one of your patrons seriously ill. There are enough restaurants in Austin that care. If you don’t, just take the GF designations off your menu. We tried to make the best of the situation and order food we knew would be safe. Unfortunately food was still pretty poor quality. Ordered an Asian cabbage salad I was so excited about that had no cabbage and nothing Asian about it. Lettuce was field greens and wilted. Had very few added veggies. Again, nothing like the description on the menu. Until the owner/management decides they care enough to have their menu descriptions match what you’re actually getting, and they improve the quality of the food, I would skip this place.

Do NOT eat here if you’re expecting an allergy friendly kitchen. Most gluten free labeled items are not gluten free and the owner could care a less.

34th St Cafe is a place that shouldn't exist. It's in an awkward location (right off N Lamar on its own little island of space). Its bright green building may be its saving grace to get it noticed. That said, once you're in, you are transported to a moderately upscale restaurant with a quiet, but not stuffy, atmosphere. They have an awesome happy hour: half price apps and discounted drinks. My wife and I ate there and just took down the appetizer menu. The food is tasty, including the gnocchi and mussels. We got a great cheese plate too with a Manchego, Gorgonzola, and one other medium hardness that I can't remember. The staff was very attentive and personable without being too pushy or over the top. We like this hidden gem, and hope it can stick around despite it's strange location.

I had one of their delivery trucks tailgate me on Mopac the other day when it was raining and slick. He finally went across three lanes, sped past me, shot the finger, back across three lanes to cut me off. He passed a few more cars in the toll entrance lane before speeding on down the road. Karma was in play though as I watched him lose control at the 35th Street exit and end up in the median in the mud. I called them to report an unsafe driver but never got a call back. Somehow, I'm just betting it was the owner driving.... One has to be a "special" kind of employee to drive dangerously with a company name and number plastered all over a van. I'll be certain to find other catering companies when I need one.

I recommend calling for a reservation. The were gracious enough to fit me in but the whole place was reserved. That's how good it is. The wine list is exquisitely crafted and the chef puts together an excellent menu to pair with the wines. They also have a nice beer selection. I had a glass of red wine, Ancient Peaks, a Cabernet. It was smooth and very palatable. I definitely recommend. I ordered the Pasta dish which was mussels and other stuff on top of angel hair. It was great! I'll definitely be coming back. If you're looking for a nice place to take a date this is the spot. My server Ruben was prompt and made sure I was taken care of well. He was the epitome of great service.

We ordered the beef from the menu. What was described sounded amazing. What we got was no where near What was ordered. Got charged $7.20 for to go packing only to have no utensils in order to eat the food. We placed a delivery order going to the hospital. Not sure how I'm supposed to eat a steak with no silverware. When called back they just said we change things on the menu. Okay but I read was what enticed me to order the food. Also to change the order and not inform the guest seems dicey with people who have food allergies.

A few of the things I loved: Very friendly customer service and I had the roast beef & gouda sandwich which was great. the sandwich had a very generous amount of meat, which I really appreciate. Toasted bun with melted cheese, nice warm meat with cool pink center. An amazing place to get roast beef. The only downside I had was the seating area. It's clearly a popular spot, and I went at 12:15 on a weekday. After ordering, stood for about 10 minutes waiting for a table to be free to sit. Parking can be equally stressful. As I was leaving, around 1:15, it had died down. I'll definitely go again, but probably not at 12:00 hour.

Horrible costumer service. I placed a Togo order over the phone and when I arrived to pick up my order I walked in and went straight to the cash register. Nobody greeted me and nobody asked if they could help. 3 people walked up to the register and didn’t say a word to me. Finally I asked the man at the register if this is where I can payout for my to go order. He rudely demanded me to be patient and stated that everyone was busy. all they had to say was “one moment please someone will be right with you” instead I stood there in front of the cash register for 5 minutes and was told to be patient like a child. PATHETIC.

Such good food, but so rude, I'll never go back. If the bald guy is still there, avoid this place like the plague. He chased us out to our car once, accusing us of not paying for our food, and the waiter was mortified, because of course we had. Another time, my friend and I went for drinks and apps, and he came over just to comment on how much we'd ordered. Oh, you mean the food we're paying for? I miss it, but never again. The owner is also super sketchy and didn't follow covid protocols. Don't waste your money. Go to Oakmont Food Company a few blocks away and meet nice servers who are actually sane.

We have been coming here for years and were immediately turned off due to the sign that stated they had "raised priced due to popular demand?!?!" That makes no sense... My main complaint was we ordered a burger, and a margherita pizza and a bottle of prosecco. The pizza was absolutely the worst pizza I have ever tried to ingest. I thought it was a Gluten-Free as the "crust" was mealy and crumbled into pieces as I tried to pick it up. I don't usually leave bad reviews, but this was AWFUL! My dogs ate the toppings and left the "crust". That should give you an idea.

I have been here many times over the last 10 years. This is one of the best and laid back eateries in Austin. The chef has a magic touch and he turns out some of the most delicious offerings. The wine selection here is also good and you get a generous pour. At the end of your meal make sure you try dessert. One that they seem to always have is the coconut cake. Awesome. The coffee must also be tried. Their new coffee maker turns out a wonderful flavorful cup. Oh, and I almost forgot....if you like french fries they have the best.....hot, tasty and nicely spiced.

  • Dennis Cao

This is a nice little place where you can grab a decent lunch during the work week. Their Italian sandwich is pretty large as it's the size about an old discman, that is if you're old enough to know what that is, if not, Google it. It'll be good to for you to know what came before the iPod. It'll add culture into your life, albeit pop. Anyways, their fries are crispy and just fried perfectly in my book. My only regret is that I don't work in the area, otherwise I would frequent it more to try their other options like their venison pizza.

  • JAMES NICKELL

We stopped in for lunch today and came away impressed. We're looking forward to coming back for a wine dinner at some point. The lunch menu included many different options, and specials were shown at the counter. Service was prompt - they even brought iced tea refills without having to be ask. Only 4 out of 5 stars just because the lunch menu is a bit on the pricey side.

To be fair, I don't have much to base this on - we didn't get to try their food. Both Google and, get this, the sticker on their front door! said they closed at 9:30. I showed up at 9, the door was unlocked and several staff were at the front desk. I was looked at awkwardly, then told they were closed. It was a little frustrating, but mainly because one of the staff was not so polite when I pointed out that their door said otherwise. So, not a lot of good info, but that's why they weren't 5 stars for me.

  • Marisa S

We dine here regularly. The food is always fresh and delicious, and the service is impeccable I often have the chicken piccata, delicious! My son usually gets the brisket burger. He's somewhat of a burger aficionado and claims that this is the best burger in town. I also like that it's one of the few restaurants these days where one can comfortably converse with their dinner companions. It's quiet enough to do so. I often take out-of-town company here, and everyone leaves happy.

  • A Carlton

Some food is very tasty, presentation is nice, and portions are big even from the kids menu. Place was not too crowded at 6:00 pm on a Monday but reservations are recommended. Our waitress was not that pleasent, and we tried not to asked her for much although she added 20% tip to her bad service. The other employees around looked friendly and nice. This was my first and last time at this place (dessert choices are very limited, only 3 and all are just cake).

  • Shayne Marie

So upon entering I notice beautiful lighting Small dining room And every customer inside is older - like senior old. Which isn’t a problem I just say that so you get the vibe. Think Boca Raton retirement community The waiter seemed annoyed to sit us We had a reservation for 8 which we made days before And they were out of a lot of dishes And he literally never refilled my drink Crab cake was tasty but it was cold. Ultimately- save your money

  • Ally Warren

One of my favorite lunch spots. Out of the different specials they feature during the week, the meatloaf and chicken piccata are especially delicious. The peach tea is better than most. The manager is super friendly and accommodating, he goes out of his way to make sure you feel welcome and stay happy. I read that they have a new executive chef, so I’m excited to try out some of the new menu additions next time I go.

  • Angie Walsh

Great food and wine available. We ended up with sticking to the small bitesenu so we could sample a lot of things rather than one big meal. Was a little disappointing that they charged for each basket of bread BUT it was all fantastic

I came in for a quick lunch. I ordered a tuna salad sandwich and ice tea. That came to about $15 before tip. That seemed to be high. I was asked if I wanted to add a side salad. I didn't see a price on the menu for that so I asked. Over $4.00 so no thanks. I was never asked if I was taking it to-go but they gave it to me in a bag. The tuna salad was bland and under seasoned. Very mediocre sandwich for the price.

Had brunch here for a graduation and was definitely not disappointed. I would say the pizza was my least favorite, but that's not saying much as everything was fantastic. More than the food, the service was incredible and definitely worth mentioning. Five stars to the staff, their cheerful attitude, and their unseen hard work. They made this celebration incredible.

  • Stewart Jarmon

Eddie and the team at 34th Street Cafe planned and catered our small at-home wedding during the pandemic. They were professional and took necessary safety precautions, and of course the food, from appetizers to main course to dessert, was exceptional. 34th Street's attention to detail and make-it-happen attitude is something we are really grateful for.

  • Sierra Carson

I have never seen a boss/owner speak to his staff the way this douche does. I was unfortunate enough to be at a dinner party he was catering and heard his interaction with a waitress where he was constantly degrading her appearance and style of service. I understand expecting a lot of your staff, but this guy took it way too far. Would not recommend.

  • shawn latorre

A small, cozy venue just off N. Lamar, I found 34th Street Cafe the kind of place to return to. Super friendly people work there, and the food, though somewhat pricey is well worth the money. I ordered a turkey Reuben, iced tea, and split a piece of coconut cream cake. All of it totally tantalizing! Great place for small meetings and/or showers too!

  • Erica Au

Really nice little spot for lunch. I met a friend here to dine together and she had the ahi tuna salad bowl and I had a BLT. We were both pleased with the service and the food. The restaurant itself has a little bit of an older feel to it which I think is pretty cozy.

Surprisingly really good food to be found here. Highlight was the coconut cake they have. It was recommended by a friend of mine and it didn't fail one bit. Parking is a bit tough. If you're at the hospital near by and need to get something better than the cafeteria food, I'd definitely recommend this place.

  • Barbara Shallue

I attended an event today catered by 34th Street Cafe. I couldn't help but go back for seconds for more Chinese Hack Salad (just the right touch of sweet with a spicy kick at the end) and another quarter of a veggie sandwich. So much flavor! They are top on my list to visit for lunch one day this week!

  • Joe Morse

This is a small boutique restaurant with a sterile modern feel and a high-end ambition. The wine is universally overpriced and the food, which extremely tasty (the bread is exquisite), comes in small portions. Come here with an expectation for good service, but not with an appetite

Nice atmosphere, great food. You order and then sit and they bring it to your table. We had the veggie sandwich, the reuben and the chinese chicken salad. All very good. Servers came and gave us drink refills and checked on us to make sure everything was okay. We'll be back.
