There was a 3-day, from 28,29,30 July 2023 sale of 1-claw dungeness crabs at $9.98/lb that sold out by the 29th, and the 2-claws crabs are left at $10.98/lb so we purchased 2 of the latter, which we did not know that these have been in the tank for quite a while. After we cooked the 2 crabs, we found out that they "bleed" like 2 cups of water and the flesh shrunk to small chunks, and there was an absolute absence of "mustard" or "tomalley" which are crab "fat" which we love being from South Asia, and we expected because of the weight when we selected the 2 crabs during purchasing. We pay for the crab shells, and the water inside the emaciated crabs that have been in the tank for a long time. The crabs should never stay longer than 2-3 days in the tank or they lose the "mustard" or "tomalley" and should be sold of 25% - 33% less because of the water in them. All the stores that sell crabs from tanks benefit from the water that the crabs contain, and become part of the purchase price. Dodgy scales and shady merchants are a way of life in the third world, and here.

I love shopping at 88 Supermarket as their produce and meat is always fresh, way more diverse selection of items compared to T&T, decent prices to the consumer, they accept AMEX and take your phone number if you forget your membership card and also their stock guys help you bring heavy items right to your car with a smile...even during COVID...the cashier sees you with a heavy item and will page someone to help you, mind you, I'm not even old, still in my 30's! 88 was one of the few very places I could find toilet paper when no stores had any, bottles of hand sanitizer with pumps, face masks, gloves, hair shears and cape and so much more without price gouging and stuff you wouldn't find at your regular big box dollar store. How they managed to stock those items when the pandemic was in it's early stages surprises me, but I am so grateful. Even though this store is small, keep in mind they are a small business and not supported by a big chain. Keep up the great work 88!

I was at the store at 5pm today, workers were blocking 4 out of the 7 aisles with carts loaded with goods. Way way way way too many customers in there to do any 2m safe distancing. Check outs had barriers on only one side of the cash register and I can see ignorant customers calling out LOUDLY to engage the cashier from the unscreened side. They were also squeezing up to your face to try and pass you in aisles. Shopping carts and baskets are not being sanitized, nor is there sanitizer provided for customers to clean the carts themselves. Some one from the city hall, please shut this place down. In the mean time, to the public, please do not shop here, we are all paying for our health care system and stores like this will wreck our health care system.

This supermarket is well stocked with a wide variety of Asian sauces, condiments, pantry items and broths that you would not normally see even in T&T. The prices are relatively high given the location of the store and the quality of the decor/ambiance. In addition, during the time of COVID-19, you will not be able to do proper social distancing here since the aisles are all very close together so there is no possible way to keep 2 feet away from anyone. Those who work or patronize the store do not care about social distancing either and will walk right by you. Several times they almost ran into me. If you are one who is still concerned about social distancing, don't go here. I don't plan to go back.

We have been going here for years. Very disappointed with one employee name Natalie who works at the cashier. Whatever you do stay away from this cashier. My wife bought alot and some of the eggs got damaged. Instead of just replacing it she had an argument with my wife that she broke it. You go to any grocery store they will just replace it but here they let you buy it. She (nathalie) spoke to a co-worker in there own language and my wife thought they just removed it and not get charged. When we got home my wife found out the cashier Natalie put the damaged egg on one of the bags and got charged for it. That is just wrong. They should not employ people like this and pull a fast one on customers.

LOVE THIS PLACE!! Firstly, this Asian grocery store has a super high inventory turnover on their meats so everything is always super fresh. I love buying my chicken and pork bones here because I love making my own chinese soup. I also love that they sell marinated chicken drumsticks for a cheap price ($3.60/pound - how can you beat that?!), as well as other meats such as flank steak, flat iron steak and brisket. I mostly come here for the meats, bones, frozen fish, inexpensive coconut water and noodles. They have a points program so I suggest signing up and also checking out their online flyers to see what’s on sale in stores. Highly highly recommended to support your local business.

"88 Supermarket is a true gem in the world of grocery shopping, earning a well-deserved 5-star rating. The extensive selection of fresh produce, international products, and quality goods is unparalleled. The aisles are organized and well-stocked, creating a seamless and enjoyable shopping experience. Competitive prices and regular promotions make it not only a go-to for variety but also for excellent value. The cleanliness and efficiency of the store, coupled with the friendly and helpful staff, make every visit a pleasure. 88 Supermarket is my top choice for quality, variety, and affordability – a definite 5 stars for being an exceptional grocery destination."

When it was Killarney Market the store carried products I like. Simply put, I am not a fan of the products they carry now. I tried them for a few weeks but it is just not for me. However, the number of people I saw shopping in there were a fair bit higher. So if you prefer Asian style cooking and products then I think this might be the place to go. They have live seafood tanks for those who like it. Their center aisle products are nearly all Asian style. These should combine well. The beef segment of the meat department carries A grade beef, which is a fair bit tougher AND a fair bit less flavourful, but it does cut the price nearly in half.

The street next to this place is so covered with trash and garbage. There must be a million rats in the back alley. 88 should clean it up. All they have to do is send out one of their shelf stockers once in a while to pick up the trash. I live on Beatrice st and I clean up the garbage there. If they want to be in this neighbourhood they should act like good neighbours and clean the place up. I will post some pictures later to show how bad it is. Just yesterday there was a big black garbage bag that someone had dumped off in their parking lot. I have nothing bad to say about whats on the inside. But with all the garbage there has to be rats.

Asian-centric market: produce, fresh packaged meat, seafood, dairy, canned/packaged food - a mini Safeway. The price in general is reasonable however the tropical fruits that are imported, mainly from Vietnam, is expensive. The western fruits (apples, oranges, etc.) are B-grade and hence much less expensive than Safeway or Save-on-food. The place recently went through a renovation and is much cleaner now. Consequently it has also become busier than a year or two ago, even with a total of 4 to 5 cashiers manning the tills most of the time. There used to only be 2 to 3 tills available, max, before. Congrats!

  • P Cho

I'm just going to be straight to the point here. This place has really fresh produce, the prices are great for the majority of items and the selection is quite superb. However my issue is with the cashiers - they've made an error upcharging me on vegetables that were incorrect. For example, i bought daikon radish and my receipt shows the item as beefsteak tomatoes. 3 mistakes were made by cashiers in the past month I've been here on all separate occasions. Do shop here but look at your receipt closely when you check out as you've probably been charged more for something you didn't buy.

  • Si W

Bustling supermarket, specialising in Vietnamese foods but also with an extensive selection of other Asian foods. Fresh durians are frequently available, as well as hard to find produce such as pomelo leaves and much more. The seafood section is clean and the fish look very fresh. Staff seem genuinely happy working here, and the customer service is excellent. On several occasions when choosing a dessert to buy, I have been offered the freshest package that they were about to start stocking. Very competitive prices, and a rewards program that gives triple points on Tuesdays.

  • Wan Ming Wong

Son had turned into a gourmet cook after working hrs ....and at leisure. ..he led me into this market. Wow...very fresh fish, meat, International Groceries : -- India Indonesia China Vietnamese Hong Kong Philippines Thailand Food prices are good, fish price a bargain.!! We made halibut soup with green onion, cilantro, heung Mao, (a vietnam herb, if mix/cook with meat.. heavenly aromour, enhenced meats taste..any meat..)green chili, chopped..Hmmm The SOUP...was so good. Never had tasted good soup like this. A new store just opened on 54th, at Kilarney Mall

  • Clare L

They are not the cheapest, but they sell a lot of variety of stuff so it's very convenient! I have shopped here many times. Recently for the past few visits, I had encountered more pricing errors. There was once, I asked one of the merchandiser about the price difference that was on the signage and the price tag that was on the product, and he just took out the promo signage (the promo was not expired) and said "oh that's wrong" without even offering to honour the price. I will advice shoppers to check the receipt before leaving the store.

  • R Low

I will admit this place has a great selection of SE / Indochinese Asian groceries. However, I was greatly disappointed with their product pricing. I bought a pack of frozen cassava that was clearly marked "3/$5.00"; nowhere was there any fine print on a separate pricing for a single pack. So it should cost $1.67 for each. But I was charged $2.88 at the till. When I brought up the discrepancy, the cashier did not offer to check / honour the displayed pricing. This sort of practice is misleading, if not outright deceptive.

  • Carly Jones

I really question this store. I bought 2 cans that were in the front row and expired a month ago...coconut milk was hard it was disgusting. I've also bought ice cream from there before that was freezer burnt and tasted powdery...never knew that was possible. Seems they dont throw out expired items. The store doesnt look clean and some items are expensive that are much cheaper at other box stores. I wouldnt recommend shopping here at all it's not worth it. Box stores have much higher standards and often cheaper prices.

  • Dar Jeeling

Fresh, affordable meats and produce. Fresh herbs. Good parking along the wall of German Haus. Fast tills, friendly staff. My only complaint is the ice cream freezer. Several times my ice cream had melted and was refrozen (it is obvious once you open the popsicles that are deformed and refrozen in the plastic). Happened more than once. You cant tell until you open the box. That is not food safe. The freezer at the front with dumplings seems fine. Still I give them 4 stars. Fix that freezer!

  • Michelle Weisbom

This is the first and last time I will go to this store. I told the cashier she overcharged me for an item and she started arguing with me. When another employee also pointed out the correct price she begrudgingly changed it. Then on my walk to my car I noticed the cashier had also double charged me for the wrong type of pears. I had to go back in and once again deal with the mishap. The manager apologized by saying, “We are not Superstore”.

  • Robin Jones

1st time visit since its opened. Quite a bit changed. Large frozen food section, Philippine and Chinese mainly. Great selection. Good seafood counter. Good prices. Pretty much unchanged deli, great selections, some hard to find stuff at good prices with friendly attentive service from staff. Good bakery section. Lots of inhouse baking. Large cultural food sections, good stuff. Loyalty reward program. Lots of parking.

  • Vikram Shivahare

This place has come a long way in the last few years. It's clean and has a large variety of items. The choice of ingredients supports the creation of numerous different cuisines. Some of the spice mixes you find here, you will not easily find anywhere else. And their fresh seafood is awesome and available at the most competitive prices. This is my neighborhood grocery store and I love it.

  • Vek D

Good selection and the people are more friendly than other asian supermarket however prices are little higher than standard. I called for a price check and go no response from any of their departments I purchased a lovely octopus to eat, he was $17 but my bill reads 22.74, so I called the next morning when they were not so busy and the price was correct it was 17 per pound.

  • Kane Tan

Ugh. What can I say except that I love this place. I make the bike ride uphill from Gastown regularly, loading up on fruit, baked goods, milk fish, extremely well-priced beef, frozen fish, SE Asian ingredients like tamarind, fresh pandan and fresh Vietnamese herbs I can't really identify Also, this place carries fish cake from Hoang Yen down the street.

  • J C

This is an Asian supermarket where you can get your Asian foods as well as Western foods in one roof. It’s always difficult to find parking at this location both during the day and evening both on site parking lot and on the street. Other than this I don’t have any issues shopping here. Some of the weekly deals are very competitive priced to larger Asian supermarket.

  • C. Weltscheff

Place is messy, aisles narrow and they don't allow you to bring your carts cloth or otherwise. As a person with mobility issues , it's simply impossible for me to navigate those aisles with my cane and not be able to bring my bag in wheels. I can't carry anything. This place definitely descriminates against people like me. I would never recommend anyone shop there

  • M Aliison

For such a small store, they have a large variety of produce and other grocery needs. I would a shop here in future in preference to T&T if they had everything though. I am giving it 4 stars though as it was extremely busy and only 2 cashiers on the tills and lineups were wrapping around the store but they were pretty swift at processing the customers.

  • Tracy Robinson

I was super impressed! Beautiful, authentic food everywhere. At the back are huge aquarium type tanks with various live seafood ! It's a huge store that carries Canadian food as well. Milk, yogurt, ice cream, hashbrowns ,bacon ,eggs, crackers,etc.... I went for my bean thread vermicelli and great price too! Oh pop and condiments and chips lol

  • Siu Hong Lum

It is one busy store with parking being premium. Why? Residential parking along Victoria Drive as well as parking for patrons for the stores next door. I'd rather take my chances shopping from T&T, but in search of Vietnamese herbs, I would come here for the freshness and variety. I do question the freshness or their meats and seafood though.

  • Darryl Flasch

The market is curated to those who partake in Asian cookery. They have a myriad selection that anyone would find something, but I'm sure a stroll through the well stocked store will result in a teeming grocery cart. If you need flowers for any occasion call and speak to Jenny who produces the finest bouquets on Victoria Street. …

  • Nathan Kang

I've never been to this place, so I thought I'd check it out. The store is very bright and clean. Shelves and produce bins were well stocked and appeared very fresh. They also carry a wide selection of fresh and frozen seafoid and meats. The cashier was very polite and well trained. I will have to come back here for more shopping.

  • Mauricio Mitjavila

I am amazed how you guys have organized your store in this difficult time. Very organized, security and all personel helping and guiding customers. I went today and I got everything I need there is enough for everyone. Congratulations to Management. I hope other Shopping stores can do the same. Thank you for your great service.

  • Roxie Pepper

Found dried bamboo leaves here for making sticky rice wraps when the nearby T&T didn't stock any. Also bought some lemongrass because they had it in stock. Store was well laid out (floor markings for covid) both staff and customers wore masks and kept distancing as best as could, given aisles. Checkout was fast as well.

  • Francis

Generally pretty good. Good sales weekly. I don't know how fresh the produce is. I bring it home and it seems it's not quite that fresh. Also there's a short weirdo dude that stands at the entrance once in a while. I dropped a car keys here... thank God they had a lost and found and it was there a few days later!

  • Alan Zheng

Staff were friendly and the place was very clean. The aisles are very tight though so quite tough to shop without feeling pressured to hurry when people are waiting behind you. Otherwise though a good variety of items and good service. There was also a security officer at the front to help control lines.

  • Brenda

Great place to find food / veggies from SE Asia. They carry more things I can't find from T&T (eg. pandan, banana flower, Thai fruits/veggies and etc). Perfect place if you need ingredients for Vietnamese cooking as they sell lemongrass chicken and Viet hams. They got some Philipino groceries as well.

  • Jordan Dawick

Fantastic selection of products you may find elsewhere however I've called three times for a check in stock for a pig head and three times the staff didn't understand me, transferred me around and eventually hung up on me. Great in store with pointing. Not so much on the phone.

  • Marie Zahradnik

This gem of a grocery store has a great selection, including produce, fresh meat and seafood at excellent prices. It's very clean and well organized, with helpful staff. They also have a dollar-store type housewares section and overripe produce corner if you're feeling thrifty.

  • Nancy Vũ

Experience shopping with family here is the best. All type of Asian food are fresh, affordable and updated as well. Some stuff are more expensive than others (cereal is more expensive than Walmart about 4$). Staff are extremely helpful and good introduction.

  • Rebecca Liggins

Great spot for cheap groceries! Not for fresh quality goods! They pack a lot into a small shop, live seafood, meat, veg and kitchen utensils! Perfect for stocking up on dry goods but the veg and fruit is not very fresh and it's pretty small and cramped!

  • Mark Rabe

Good place if you need to stock up on a variety of Asian food! Philippines, Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese, etc. Customer service could be improved, but not bad! Parking is very tight though. Sometimes it's hard to find a spot especially in the afternoon.

  • Sumi Kim

Great local store. I like their fresh seafood and kind staff members. Meat quality is really good as well. It is pretty popular so usually I don't get a parking spot. And even they control pretty well for the COVID, sometimes I feel it is too crowded.

  • Syra Mijares

If you want fresh meat, poultry and fish 88 is always the answer. Their products are good quality, me and my husband really loves to buy produce here as well. Their store is a little bit small and crowded but other than that I love the products here.

  • J X

Supermarket geared towards Vietnamese products. Prices are okay and not too expensive but isn't cheap either. But the place is pretty small and tight. If you are concerned about social distancing (covid). Then it might not be a good place for you.

  • Rizwan M

Dirty and disorganized place but if you need Thai and Vietnamese ,it is the place to go. The cashier as rude and when I gave her $20 she thought it was counterfeit . She did not question my friend $20 as she was Chinese. Will never go there again

  • Matthew Poon

First time coming here. Wide variety of selection for an individual grocery store. When items go on sale, the deals are quite good. I would come here more often moving forward. And a surprising factor is that they even have a seafood section!

  • Antionne Chang

Staff is generally friendly and willing to help. If someone doesn't know the answer or where to find the item your looking for, they will usually find someone that does. From great produce, to live seafood, meats, dairy and deserts plus more.

  • Casey Ye

There is so much packed into this store, a variety of Asian cooking goods and snacks. Complete with fruits, vegetables, fresh seafood as well as rows of canned and dried goods, it is the place to look for ingredients you cannot find elsewhere

  • Meesh

For all your southeast Asian imported food product needs. Go on Tuesdays for 3x reward points on their membership program! March 2022: go now to enter the raffle for prizes including a brand new car! You have to spend a minimum of $88 though.

  • Tony Li

88 Supermarket has a bit of everything for any SE Asia shopping trip. Reasonable meat prices and exotic vegetable supply. Has a good selection of frozen foods and dry goods. But not at a great bargain. Must be selective to save money there.

  • Allen Hsieh

Everything is great, even though it’s a Vietnamese super market and I don’t speak any Vietnamese, just wishing if they can improved their staff’s English level a bit more! But overall, great place that is hidden with full of quality goods

  • Celeste Munger

Good prices on meat and produce and an excellent selection of asian grocery items that I can't find elsewhere. Much cheaper than T&T. Kind of a small store though and it can get quite busy on weekends and just before the dinner hour.

  • Yen Ha

Overall experiences Alberta 88 is way better. Under circumstances with how expensive land rental in Vancouver, not gonna bother talking about space. The layout and organization of it product is not friendly at all for shopper.

  • Brian Ferguson

I was looking for banana leaves for my cochinita pibil. This shop had two brands! Nervous about buying food from China? Everything here was clearly labelled for its country of origin. I will definitely recommend this market.

  • Cindy

Great grocery store with large selection of Asian items. They even have a fresh fish area. I liked their pre-marinade Lemon grass chicken. Their are also lots of Vietnamese herbs and spices that you cannot get elsewhere.

  • Anthony P.

This supermarket is great in prices and selection. It used to be a Buy-Low-Foods waaaay back in the day. I still remember it growing up in the neighborhood in the 90's. My go-to place for value priced Vietnamese recipes.

  • Beth Wallace

I LOVE this store. Some of the products are not of my... template or menu but they have pretty much everything you need. Meat prices are fantastic and I've never been disappointed. Service... always fantastic …

  • Geet Sabharwal

They got these amazing thai snacks i had last time...and yea the milk drinkammso different. And the prices are so awesome... Even the fish i boight here was great quality. Thumbs up for the work you guys are doing.

  • Tri To

A little crowded at times but the line up is usually very fast. A great place to find great Asian foods for a great price. A variety of vegetarian and vegan options in the freezer in the vegetable section. Enjoy!

  • Chris Khoo

Wow! An amazing selection of asian groceries at great prices. It's better that T&T - I can find all of my hard-to-find asian ingredients in this one place. It's pretty popular so expect large crowds on weekends.

  • Jogdish1000

Cool market. They have a large variety of ethnic foods. Asian, South Asian, Latino, North American, lots of fresh ethnic veges, meats and fish (local / imported seafood). I found my Culantro (Ngo Gai) there...

  • Ahmet Kacmaz

I can find good Asian food and fresh flowers bouquet. When I asked to wrap my bouquet, a statf did it with nice paper for free, I just paid 17 bucks, my bouquet looked like 30 bucks I bought in others places.

  • Ed Wong

They use different colored lights over the meat to make it look more fresh, but watch out. I asked if they had ice cream and 2 people had no clue what I was talking about. I hope their new location is better.

  • K P

They do a really interesting selection of vegetarian and vegan food. I found Penang curry, mock duck and vegan prawns. However, I’m not so keen on the tanks of live crabs etc waiting on death row.

  • King Ma

Decent local supermarket with everything you need the most for groceries. Fair pricing. There are good selection of Asian goods and foods items to purchase. Limited free parking available on site.

  • Sean Nunis

Best Asian grocery store in Vancouver! You can find almost everything you need for South East Asian cuisine. Prices are affordable and staff are friendly. Unlike that other Asian grocery store.

  • Sam L

good selection of fresh veggies and ethnic foods. my wife, who's from Vietnam, loves the selection. plus 88 has safe social distancing measures in place. can be a very busy market at times.

  • Joseph Lau

It's basically a Vietnamese grocery store. It has very good choice of Asian groceries. Fresh and live seafoods are also available there. Parking is limited but street parking is available.

  • Robert M

Shop here all the time, great seafood section. Lots of Asian spices and a good produce section. Employees are very friendly. Only complaint is that it gets too busy around dinner time.

  • John !

Great supermarket for all your Asian grocery needs. They also have packed meat marinated in lemongrass seasoning. Prices are also very fair. Large selection of vietnamese groceries.

  • Sarah Paul

Not bad at all. Small but very convenient to have round the corner from our house. The fish we bought here was actually fresher than some of the big stores. Will go back for sure.

  • B. John Doyle

Very good quality and selection of produce seafood and meats and many little goodies. Above all the staff are very kind and helpful, even the security guard! Five stars from me.

  • Richard Gee

Good value, good selection.. not enough space to move around & you have to mask up to be safe; but cashiers are terrific and ensure accurate and quick check-out everytime.

  • Linh L

Love getting my Vietnamese groceries needs here. If you can think of a Vietnamese grocery item they'll have it here. If they don't then it's probably a seasonal item.

  • SEIYA

Thanks, Sandy(my receipt writes) and another girl who helps loading my paper bag today you two are so sweet, make my day, and wish you everything best …

  • Ein Bar

Good selection for Asians. Variety of fruits throughout the year . Dosent have enough space for shoppers to roaming during the peak hours. Can be more clean .

My wife loves to come here and get groceries on trips to Vancouver. The staff are so friendly and always helpful. I like talking with the staff and saying hi

  • M Hand

The workers here are very friendly and make my shopping experience pleasant every time. Great little market with unique offerings. Excellent prices!

  • Eric Kwong

This supermarket carries various Asian food. On sale items are attractive, otherwise, I would say a bit more expensive than other competitors.

  • Chung Liang

Great selection of fresh produce, seafood, and meat. Parking is available on site and street if you avoid the morning and lunch crowds.

  • karanbir sandhu

If possible I would give - stars due to the rudeness of a cashier. Management should give them proper training for customer service.

  • Selina Ma

Great variety of east and southeast asian groceries! They can also help you load heavy things into your car (e.g. rice bag)

  • Maria Tomelden

Glad to find the things I need to buy plus variety of products. Fresh meat, produce and Asian food selection.
