1. Ridiculous compulsory 22% gratuity charged on after tax price without informing me when I made the payment. 2. The shop asks $30 for me and my friends to cut the cakes and eat them in the restaurant while I made the reservation for six in advance and stating the birthday purpose. They didn’t state anywhere on the reservation page or their website that they require extra tips for larger party. Btw 5 people is not a large party that requires special attention according to the booking page. I refused to pay $30 cake cutting fee and didn’t eat cakes there so the place didn’t even provide cake cutting service or cleaning services. All they did was normal water/drinks services and lighting my candles. I think I ordered more than enough drinks for 5 people. I don’t see the owner has any rights to charge me for 22% tips. 3. I’ve been here before and I got to select my own tips amount. This is the first time me seeing compulsory all-included 22% gratuity. 4. There were no customers waiting in line after I came inside. There were no customers when I left around 11:30pm which is normal operating time for a bar so the shop didn’t entend operating hours just for me. They didn’t inform me they were closing either. Then what is this 22% after tax gratuity for? The owner is crazy. I need to report this.

This place is so cool! If you're looking for a low-key night to catch up with some friends, looking for a nice, low key intimate date night, with good cocktails, food and amazing service, look no further then 929 in LIC. It's easy to miss but not hard to find, just pay attention to the address. The music is very cool Asian pop music from the 80's and 90's. The volume on the music is just right, not at all obnoxiously loud. It's at the perfect volume where you can hear your fellow guest and but clearly make out the music. You can whisper, talk normally, without having to scream at each other or talk into each other's ear. The food portions are small and a little pricey but every meal is really tasty and worth it. So don't come here expecting to fill your belly. Come from the incredibly unique and tasty drinks and eats but don't expect to be in a food coma. Unless you order a tremendous amount of food. The service was on point. All the host were so nice, very knowledgeable about the food and drinks, made sure everything was okay and didn't try to rush us out. The bartenders were cool and funny. The whole vibe is just really chill, relaxing, intimate. I really dig this spot and will return and highly recommend it.

Dark & retro canto/mando inspired speakeasy. Our group of 5 went on a Thursday night recently and was told there’s a 90mins time limited. Well we understand since it isn’t a big place and it did get busy after a while. The server was nice and informative. They have limited items on the bar food menu but the food was really good to our surprises. We ordered the Fried Platter(Popcorn Chicken, Cuttle Fish Ball, Green Bean, Bai Ye Tofu), Braised Beef Shank, Fried Buns and Radish Cake. Everything was tasty and flavorful. I personally like the radish cake a lot. We end up ordered 2nd on some since the snacks were quite small. Now onto their cocktails with interesting names for the drinks. We’ve tried a few and were not too much of a fan on them. Innovative drinks with ingredients like sesame oil, herbal syrup & Chinese five spices (just to name a few) weren’t so much enjoyable to us. We ended up order generic drinks like gin and tonic on our 2nd round. I would give 4 stars if they weren’t trying so hard on creative cocktails. After all it’s bar and drinks matter!

My final rate is based on 929’s cocktail menu but not food. I REALLY RECOMMEND❤️‍ (background: I hate the taste of alcohol so I’m always look for cocktails that are smooth to drink.) The menu was so cute since it was based on the names of Mandarin songs..! Definitely going back to try other items! Food review at the end. Familiar Stranger was a hit! My brave friend took a try and it was amazing! Everything goes so well together with the smell of basil and sesame oil. Breeze was a safe sweet-and-sour choice. It tasted like sweet lemonade with rich fruit tastes. Last Emperor was a strong one, alcohol taste stood out more. (Although my friend said less.) This is the one to try Kaoliang, a kind of based liquor that is common in Taiwan. For the food, we had braised beef shank and fried little buns. Agree with some reviews here, portions were small and prices were high. Beef shank was tasty though.

My friend hard vouched for us to try this asian bar, and it definitely blew my expectations out of the water. It's a cute vinyl record bar tucked behind a food shop, with nostalgic mando and canto pop songs playing in the background. I like my asian cocktails, but these were just next level. Their cocktails are all tea infused, and taste of nostalgic dishes you'd eat in your childhood! ❖ I first had the Not the Melon You Know cocktail, which tasted so much like wintermelon tea, I actually did a double take. ❖ But the favorite drink of the night has to be The Most Familiar Stranger You Know cocktail. It's based off of the drunken chicken dish (醉雞 for my mando people), and it actually tastes like it?? Which is insane?? And it tastes good??? I'll definitely be coming by here more often, madk my words!

Newly opened bar. They don’t take reservation. Cocktail prices are on the average of New York bar prices around $17-20, but the portion is small. The menu includes dishes from 呷奔 and we were so looking forward to the $23 fried platter, taste was great and nostalgic but it was disappointingly small, barely enough for just one person. The most familiar stranger & not the melon were tasty and smooth. The rest I would say creative and bold. Atmosphere is dark, retro, with many vinyl records. Seating is a bit cramped with little space between tables. Very high cost to portion, so we will not be returning. However the employee was very friendly, she brought us our cocktails but wrongly matched the order and ended up giving us an extra drink which was pretty thoughtful!

  • Lea

Wasn’t expecting much before getting there but I ended up loving it. The drinks are delicious and super unique. The soy milk + soy sauce foam is out of this world (the drink is smokey so make sure you like that). We got there pretty late so we only has the sweet potato fries that turned out to be super flavorful and a great snack. The music is fun and they have a cool collection that you can check out and select albums to play. The staff is also very kind. They messed up our order (gave out fries to the wrong table) but immediately gave us a free drink. The only thing is that if you come here on a weekend, there is a line which isn’t the best so hopefully they’ll take reservations at some point.

  • Bella Kuang

Drinks are pretty but service is super lacking. No mention of time limit and was rudely told not subtly to leave by having check slapped on table and told next reservation is in 5 mins while other table had more people join and seems to bypass any time limit rules and special considerations is given to bartender friends' group that they stayed much longer without waitress not-so-subtle hints of gtfo. Wish I could had gotten another drink but being told to leave is just bad taste.

The food was really good. Classic Asian street food/snacks which really hit the spot! The space is a little limited inside so if you don’t reserve and go at peak times, you might not be able to get in. I like that they have a nice assortment of Asian themed cocktails and drinks (ex. Japanese beers, ume liqueurs). The interior vibe is very chill, and I liked the decorations — seemed to be record themed. The only downside is that this spot is a little pricey compared to other speakeasy’s I’ve been to, and one of the staff seemed a little moody but perhaps she was having a bad day.

Ayo if you’re looking for cocktails in LIC and want to put your close-minded friends on to this bomb neighborhood, bring them here. Death & Co? That bar above 5 Guys? Generic LES “speakeasy”? FOH. This place is it. Giving BIG Button Club Marvelous Mrs Maisel vibes IFYKK. I’m born and bred NYC as well so I know the deal. Very inventive cocktails, attentive service, great records on play. Bring a friend, bring a date, hell bring both if you’re feeling frisky. Bless.

Immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Canto-Pop and Mando-Pop at 929, a new cocktail and vinyl record bar that's truly a music lover's paradise. From the beautifully designed interior to their curated memorabilia collection, the attention to detail is impeccable. But it's not just the aesthetics that make 929 (and your obligatory Saturday night IG story) special—the craft cocktails are simply outstanding. With unique ingredients like chrysanthemum tea-infused gin and winter melon & Osmanthus syrup you won’t find a menu like this anywhere else.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the newly opened Asian fusion bar, and I must say it was an incredible experience from start to finish. The alcohol menu is an absolute masterpiece. The blend of flavors and ingredients from various Asian ingredients is a testament to the owner's creativity and expertise. The bartenders are true mixologists, skillfully crafting unique concoctions that perfectly complement the flavors of the dishes. Whether you're a cocktail enthusiast or a wine connoisseur, this bar has something to satisfy every palate.

Great vibes of Mandarin and Cantonese music that I grew up listening to! So nostalgic. Drinks are great! Not the melon you know is amazing, bartender’s kiss. My friend had a blueberry Cheesecake and that’s also BOMB. There wasn’t anything similar to an old fashioned on the menu, so I asked the bartender to make me an old fashion riff, love it. A gem in Court Square!

Nearly missed this awesome little spot when I was walking by, soo glad I walked in and was able to secure myself a seat at the bar with no wait on a Thursday night, wonderful service with artfully crafted cocktails in a tastefully decorated space, lots of comfy looking booths . Single bathroom stall was spotless , they even had a cute marcel Breuer style b3 chair for you to sit in if there is a wait.

Very cool speakeasy that offers some delicious drinks and fun small bites. We waited for about an hour (hoped to another bar) but would definitely recommend making reservations. Once we got in, the vibe was cool and retro. Drinks were delicious though on the small side. The fried small bites were also delicious and go well with the drinks. Looking forward to coming back sometime soon!

Very cute and unique bar that a lot of LIC residents have been waiting! The cocktails are so unique and are named after nostalgic pop songs. ‘Sweet Guilty Pleasure’ and ‘Not the Melon You Know’ are my girl friends and my favorite. Sweet and easy to drink. The Last Emperor has a good hint of Kaoliang and I personally love it! Natsu no Breeze is refreshing with the perfect amount of guava taste. Strongly recommend!

  • Francis Ricci

I appreciated that the drinks used ingredients you wouldn’t find at a typical cocktail bar, but there was very little variety - almost every drink was sweet/fruity. Service was poor, only one server for the entire space. The food was okay, but nothing exceptional. There was a strictly enforced 90 minute time limit, which really is too short for a group.

Unexpected little Taiwanese gem in LIC. Go for the cocktails. We tried the stranger, melon you know, sleepless night and bad cold drink (in order of my preference). 3/4 drinks were big hits: balanced and complex flavors that incorporate savory elements. The fried platter with popcorn chicken, tofu and mushrooms was good too! Ambiance is dark, chic, sleek, retro and intimate. Great date night spot.

  • Kat Pan

I sat at the bar and it was really cool to watch Cooper and Jun in action. Had a few different drinks and all were something special and not what other cocktail bars are offering. Everyone was very welcoming and even though I didn’t have a reservation I felt no animosity or pretentiousness from the team and I am excited to return.

Their taiwanese bar food was delicious. We really liked the fried platter and the sweet potato fries. I was also pleasantly surprised by their specialty drinks. Only concern was a lack of seating since the space is fairly small. Luckily I was able to just walk in with a few friends and grab a table.

There’s literally nowhere else like this in NYC! All the songs they played were in Mandarin and Cantonese makes me feel like homeeee and with the actual vinyl recordsss Not to mention that the cocktails are also REALLY GOOD, made with eastern ingredients like plum, tea, 高粱 like omgg

“Love is like a bad cold” was a standout for me, what a trip down memory lane. I loved 枇杷膏 as a kid. They weren’t that strong but honestly that was a positive for me, I’d prefer to taste more without getting hammered. Vibes are on point, spicy peanuts? Yup! Can’t wait to come back!

  • Doris Liou

an amazing bar with stunning ambience and fun drinks — I had the sweet guilty pleasure and natsu no breeze. Both were light and fruity with complex flavors (the guilty pleasure had a delightful hint of tea and natsu no breeze a nostalgic guava taste). Would come back 10/10 ~ !!!!
