"Very convenient station and it’s excellent and easy"
Train left and arrived on schedule from Chatsworth station to Santa Fe depot in downtown San Diego. For a higher price, the business class has adjustable foot and back rest (for a more comfortable ride), and adequate snack pack with choice of a drink. I prefer this for a 3-hour train ride along the scenic Pacific coast while catching up on Korean drama via Netflix. I just wish the train can stop longer on any of the beaches we passed by so we may take even a 15-30 minute walk on the sand. Won't that be nice? I also love the vintage look of Santa Fe depot (though the restrooms deserve an upgrade). All the Amtrak employees I've met were helpful. The train itself was clean (including the restroom), with air-conditioning, enough outlets for charging cellphone and laptop, and a pull-down table. There's also enough space overhead and near your seat for luggage or backpack. Face masks required. I enjoyed this train ride very much and suggest you try it too!
I enjoy checking out new/old places. This rates very high. Check out the details, the lil stuff. So much to see at this station. The station is old school. Built when things were very different. Space or size was not a concern. Details were definitely on their minds. Walking around this place you can feel the history that is abundant. Walk around take it all in. Go for a ride, along the coast on the surf all the way to San Juan Capistrano. Get off in Los Angeles. See that station for sure!! Walk across the street in L.A. and get a sandwich at the historical place Phllipes home of the french dip! And coffee is still five cents! Again all from a time in our close history when life was not so difficult and everybody was not so aggressive and or angry. A much more simple time. It shows in all the stuff you can easily see. Olvera street is also across the street which is another throwback in time. Enjoy. Patrick.
San Diego's Santa fe depot is the best place to start your journey northbound with Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner. The terminal has plenty of seating for everyone. Amtrak personnel were very friendly and professional. The trains are all modern with wifi and seat outlets. If you spend a couple of dollars more for business class, you get more leg room and complimentary wine, beer, and other drinks, along with a nice snack pack that's full of 6 or 7 items. Had a great time and the ride was super smooth.
I just asked for the bathroom code and Bald white guy asked me if I knew how to read and pointed at his closed sign 9 minutes into his shift and asked if I knew how to read. Apparently I dont , and you can't count a $100 or $200 dollar drawer faster than 9 minutes we have a problem in corporate America. Thanks for a1 customer service . Definitely never coming back to this place because of him. Better to be at old town with no staff. he's rude and you will never see me again.
Very convenient station and it’s excellent and easy. Who should have thunk it — you can get to (and through) LA from San Diego without dealing with any traffic! I’ll never drive to (or through) LA again with this option! Also it’s a great hub to get to most other major hubs in California - For vacation or business travelers, I get a lot of reading and work done with someone else doing the driving and feel far more satisfied when I take the train!
I received great service with my extra bags. There's no bag check at this station, but they were very helpful getting my excessive baggage onto the train and advising me about getting assistance at my destination station. There's lots of space indoors and outside features a fountain, palm trees ina simple but peaceful space. Great fir social distancing! Loves the tile work inside rhis mission style building.
I'm originally from San Diego and I moved up to LA with my daughter so I started taking the Amtrak just to see how it was the first time in its absolutely the best if you do not want to drive it's about 3 hours from San Diego to LA and it's comfortable it's clean it's got a cafe it's got restrooms need I say more other than there is also beautiful views along the coast give it a try $33 each way
This Amtrak station is conveniently located within walking distances of several hotels, the bay attractions like the USS Midway, and ship museum. There is a parking lot across the tracks if you are waiting to pick someone up. Also it's a ten minute walk to the Little Italy area which has some of the best food in Dan Diego.
This Amtrak station is located downtown and close to many event areas and attractions. It's clean and well kept and the staff are friendly and helpful. While it's not super huge...it does have bench seating for waiting on your train and has a small gift shop where you can grab drinks or snacks.
Would have gotten a lower rating because of one of the night guard lady but I was able to get my phone charged. And thank goodness I was able to use the restroom. The codes change daily just ask nicely, hopefully they won't pull the whole you need a ticket when you just get off of the train.
station is okay. pretty clean and toilets were well kept but locked away via a code. AMTRAK service between LA and San Diego was good but had delays and overall could/should be quicker. Nice views though. Coach can get pretty filled up so best to get to your train early and secure a spot.
Super nice station and love catching the train here. However, the staff directly you to the train is very rude and they rush you like you're running away from something. Other than that, the station is very clean and it's a great place to catch the pacific surfliner here.
The service is very bad since the.covid19 pandemic started there's a skeleton crew that works the station that is truly lacking knowledge of scheduled trains and.buses.little or no help.for disabled passengers poor attitudes.servetly.lacking in.customer service.
Hours are misleading, came here at 1am because I have to catch the train at 5am but on Google it says their open 24 hours but in person says they close at 1am. Can you guys please update your hours? Other than that very nice place to stay and wait for train!
This Amtrak station was clean, effecient and very helpful as well as polite to our family on our travel from San Diego to LA and back. The trip was reasonable cost for our journey and we will be scheduling with Amtrak again in the near future.
The beautiful Santa Fe train depot located in the heart of San Diego. This depot serves as a hub for multiple rail lines. The northbound Amtrak pacific surfliner, San Diego trolley abd coaster also stop here. Very nice waiting room.
Excellent station with helpful attendants. Ask the ticket counter for the bathroom code. They will store your bags and even change your ticket if necessary. Nice open station with a good stand that sells coffee and lunch.
If you do need to travel but aré not willing to drive a car, then come to the Santa Fé Depot station and let the driving to the conductors. The very best class is the business class and you are treated like a king or a
Spacious, historic building dating from era of popular train travel. Adequate bench seating. Small convenience concession. Nearby Starbucks (within short walking distance) for coffee and light snacks.
No one to help us figure out where to go. They have removed all staffing including any security. Be sure to find out which track. The train ride itself was great. Figuring out where to go not so much.
Terrible experience with my luggage , I was denied of my belongings for 2 hours and witnessed the same lady luggage handler picked up and throw on the floor then kicked one of my important boxes …
You can get out and explore and the Blue line and Green line of the trolley are right there the harbor is right down the street walking distance and there is a wide variety of restaurants in the area
It's the downtown San Diego train station. Which has SDMTS Blue and Green line stops as well as a COASTER stop. This station is covininate to the cruise ship terminals as well as government offices.
Not a very comfortable place to wait if your train is cancelled or extremely delayed. They really need to add a lounge section and have other food vendors besides the one coffee place that's there.
Beautiful station, lots of seating, restrooms, coffee Shop.train schedules lol take the coaster or Amtrak up The coast !! The most beautiful coastal train route in my heart
Terrifying place at night. Threatened several times just waiting for a train. No security. Ticket booth woman horrible during day. Don't go at night. In fact, don't go!
I just want to say that under the present situation because of the pandemic. I greatly appreciate the effort being made from all Amtrak personnel. Thanks to all of you.
Staff was very friendly and helped me find my way between the 2 different stops. There are different trolley and bus lines converging within a block of each other.
The last terminal in the SW corner of the USA. Heading north to Los Angeles with AMTRAK, the Coaster and the Trolley. Near the harbor, downtown and Little Italy.
Big station but easy to find where you need to go. Clean terminal. Staff are helpful. Conveninet location to cafes and restaurants, hotels, the bay, and parks.
Great customer service, no lines, the ride from San Diego to Los Angeles was nice and business class was well worth the price. Would do it again.
Wonderful station, iconic and traditional colonial Spanish architecture. The current homelessness around it is both gruesome and heart breaking.
Super nice and helpful staff are eager to guide us to the right track. Help is provided for those who are needing a hand with mobility issues.
Most important building in SD. Started the West Cost vertical expansion and connected to the rest of the country. It’s got a beautiful history
They suck, they dont let ticketholders get some rest before the train leaves. I will never take the train to or from wazzass san diego again
Ticket agents (in person & on phone) are inept. They ticketed my elderly mother as a bicycle... yes I said bicycle. Incorrect info given.
Such a wonderful bit of architecture. Old Time train station on the outside pretty modern on the inside. Trains!!
Nice clean station, just line for Surfliner can get long and no priority boarding for families with little kids
Seems to be going under construction renewal but it was lovely. It was pleasant of even an espresso bar
Excellent and professional and clean environment great customer service excellent coffee in the lobby
The ticket agents are so knowledgeable and very nice! Much friendlier and helpful than Los Angeles.
It's a beautiful, safe and clean train station even during the pandemic with very helpful staff!
HAD A GREAT TRIP ON THE AMTRAK TRAIN. AND ENJOYED THE SIGHTS OF THIS CLASSIC OLD TRAIN STATION.
Beautiful interior. Nice grounds. Easy check in. Took it to Fullerton. Highly recommend.
Old style place, a charging station (for cell phones) would be an awesome upgrade
Classic old train station that has many connecting routes nearby to continue on.
Busier than usual 4 me. Very calm. Nice selection at the kiosk that.sells food.
Great old building handy to taxis, light rail and buses. Felt safe there
Staff here tend to be rather curt and less than helpful unfortunately.
Fun and great ride. A wonderful way to see the beauty of Gods earth.
I was helped.. stayed distanced. And traveled..excellantly..thanks
Very clean facility, great service, better than renting a car.
NIce and clean. Much more organized than before COVID!
Right now, sadly empty. But had a GREAT cup of coffee.
Not crowded. Courteous food vendor in terminal
Old man at the window is so rude. Shift 5 am.
