The snapper was delish. The restaurant is gorgeous inside. It felt like such an authentic, modern twist on Mexican food. You walk into the bar. There are a lot of stairs if that is difficult for you. One flight goes up the bathrooms and one goes down to the restaurant. The staff is waiting for you when you walk downstairs. We were given the option for indoor or outdoor dining. We sat on the patio next to the river. The lighting was absolutely little dark. I needed a flashlight to read the menu. I loved that we were eating by candlelight. The night breeze, cool temperature, & the view of the riverwalk was awesome. As an added bonus they had their own stairs that lead down to the riverwalk. I loved this experience.

This place was highly recommended to us from the reception desk of the Henry B Gonzalez Convection Center. It’s a Tex Mex Restaurant but with a lot more Mexican traditional taste right on the River Walk. Our server Gary was quite hospitable and have us many recommendations from food to drinks, he was right on the dot. Me and husband ordered the Poquito de todo and was more than enough we had to take the rest with us, chips and salsa is a separate fee but worth it our server Gary explained that they hand roast all their chiles and a lot of love to make it and that is why is not red like other places. We took a nice walk on the River Walk afterwards, and we will definitely revisit next time we’re in San Antonio, ty Gary for making our experience a great one!!

We appreciated that they had a non-alcoholic beer available, something that seems to be rare on the Riverwalk. The house salad was delicious, with fresh spring mix lettuce, avocado, tomato and goat cheese topped with a perfectly balanced sweet and tangy dressing. My husband ordered the tortilla soup, great chicken flavor, and the 3 enchiladas, which were presented beautifully, and he devoured. My mushroom and squash skillet plate was divine, I got it with some corn tortillas on the side. Our server, Marcus, was an absolute delight. He took excellent care of us and we couldn't have had a better experience. Strong recommend.

Another repeat visit for us. The last time we stayed in San Antonio, we came here. We love the patio atmosphere. It's still on the Riverwalk but just far enough away from the downtown madness to give it an extra star. The staff is quick and attentive. We love the chips and salsa to start with. Nice crunch and the salsa has a great spice. They only have the one salsa, but for us, it's on point. Cevechi was delicious. But the real star is the duck chalupas. Trust me on this one! The meat is braised in a wonderful sauce and balanced perfectly with pickled onions and the crispy tortillas. All of the dishes we have had have been 4 star. Don't forget to get a margarita to wash things down. I recommend the Jalepeno and Cucmber margarita. Well done Acenar!

We had a wonderful dinner at Acenar. It has been one of the best Mexican restaurants we have been in. Food was great. And drinks were good. Service was attentive as well. We had the mini skewers to start followed by short rib tacos, crab tinga tacos, and the pork tenderloin. We loved the short rib tacos the most as it was very flavoursome. I actually forgot to take photos before they were devoured. For dessert, we had the chocolate mousse and tres leches cake (see photos). I would recommend the tres leches between the two.

Delicious and such wonderful customer service. There are almost too many restaurants to choose from when you’re visiting the Riverwalk but Acenar should be your go to! Table side guacamole was AMAZING, as were all of our dishes. The staff there went above and beyond to help us enjoy our visit, even allowing us to come in from the cold between appetizers and the main course- seriously, they were so kind about it even though that’s definitely an annoying thing for a customer to do! I want to thank all the staff that worked last night, drinks were yummy, food was wonderful, and the staff was very sweet. Thank you! (My messy food photo was after devouring the yummy queso and guacamole, but it was all delicious)

This is a great Mexican restaurant on the water. The view alone is worth going if you sit out on the riverwalk. Highly recommend their steak fajitas, which are a great price. While they texturally weren't the best I've had, the flavour was excellent and the meat was soft with good seasoning. The enchiladas were average, as enchiladas generally are, nothing to write home about.

Food was so good. We got the skewers and clams to start. They were great apps and so well made. This isn't a complaint but the "for 2" fajitas was an insane amount for 2 haha. I felt like easily for 3. Not a complaint, just a heads up, and was priced well for the food, just be ready to take a Togo box because we were stuffed and ate maybe 2/3rds of it. I can can put down some food. Staff was friendly and our waiter was great even covering two big tables of over 10 as well as our party of 2. The Mexican Martini specialty cocktail was phenomenal.

Great location near the river walk. We got seated quickly, food came out fast. Everyone enjoyed their meals. This included short rib tacos, fish tacos and Tres Enchiladas. Generous portions, and prices very reasonable for the location in a big city. While my overall rating is 5 stars, I am only giving 4 stars for service. Admittedly, everything felt a bit rushed. There was another table (bigger party) that came in the same time we did and their food was just coming out and we were paying our check. And it's not like we are fast eaters.

Stopped by on the way to The Majestic Theatre for beer and appetizers at the bar. Glad we did! The fried oysters were excellent with the roasted pineapple and spicy mayo garnish, topped with micro greens and served on thin sliced jimaca chips!! Are you kidding me!!? Also the oysters were available in tacos served with rice and beans. Going back for dinner soon to try the poblano chicken mole! Great looking menu. Thanks for the great service and letting us hangout before the ZZ Top show!

I ordered the fish tacos that were good. The jalapeño honey jam had a kick. Fiery and sweet. I don’t like hot so it was too hot for me. But it came on the side so I didn’t put it in the other two tacos. Which was thoughtful. The rice was cooked just right with a hint of butter. There’s a good bar list. I would suggest reservations Friday through Sunday, especially if the weather is nice. I gave it three stars because I felt it was just average. Average service just trying to survive a busy night. No fault of the staff, just the way it is. Nothing really stood out to me as amazing. I would come back again because there was also nothing bad.

First time in this restaurant - Food and drinks were great! Highly recommend the alambre! Unfortunately the service was below average or should I say “there was no service!” Once our food was served, we did not see our waiter again! (Had to wave at the waiter to remind him that he forgot our chip and salsa). We wanted to order more drinks and dessert but we didn’t have the opportunity. We had to ask another waiter for our bill.

Was visiting San Antonio, Texas and happened upon Acenar. Everything was about to close for the night and we wanted Mexican food. They were getting ready to close but seated our party anyway. They could tell how hungry we were!?! As I scanned the menu, all the traditional dishes were there but I wanted something different. I settled in the seafood tacos and was pleasantly surprised. The tacos were unbelievable but they made the beans taste delicious as well. The beans!!!! If you like this review, like and share this review. Thanks and have a great day!

I had a great time here with my bf and his sister. The food was yummy and the service was great. I ordered a green chili enchilada, I think, and a coconut margarita with the help from the waiter. Both items were delicious and I wished I could’ve come back for more. Not pictured is the oyster appetizer which was actually my first time trying oysters. It was also amazing! One downside is that I got bit seven times in the span of a couple minutes by mosquitos :( But great place anyways!

Overall 5 stars! In an area full of over-priced tourist traps, it was wonderful to find a restaurant that did NOT feel like a rip-off. The prices felt reasonable, the food was delicious and came out incredibly fast, the alcohol selection was vast, and the location was excellent. The only slight negative I can note was our server wasn't the most attentive but that did not distract from overall experience, will definitely be back!

Went this weekend 9/23 with my family to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Food was very good drinks on point the atmosphere and the server Bob was very very nice. I loved that my family could be there self and have fun and the whole restaurant joined in to sing Happy Birthday when they brought out my daughters cake. My husband was surprised cause every restaurant we go to I always say it wasn't all that I could of done better this time I did not say that. I'm ready to go back.

Location is perfect, Music was good and service was good. The Drinks I got a paloma and the food was Not Good! I had high expectations thinking that the food was going to be Great. Got the Sampler it was so small and so bland. Then ordered the queso with chorizo. Let me say all that was there was the Chorizo grease and cheese. Would never recommend this place if you're really hungry or if you know what Good Mexican food taste like.

4/13/22 I walked by and looked at the reviews the day before. Came with my sister and sat outside. There was a woman outside that was screaming and shouting bad language until the police came which the restaurant can’t really control, but just be aware if you have young children. The food was great and was true Tex-Mex if that is what you are looking for. We had the queso flameado, tortilla soup and tres enchiladas. Honestly the queso flameado is better at Mi Tierra for the price. The other plates were delicious. I would eat here again.

Came down for Fiesta Week and just chose to give this place a try. It was not busy and we were seated on the patio quickly. The view was so so as the buildings in that area are derelict and probably in upgrade mode soon. We had the house queso, a michelada, Pork Tenderloin with 2 ways mole. The food was small but tasted very good. We paid 45.00 plus tip. Recommended for taste not for portion size.

Unfortunately our experience wasn't very good. The host Abby was not very friendly, on the contrary she was rude and although we requested a table next to the water, she did not want to please us having three empty tables on that side, twenty minutes later the tables were still empty. As Florida tourists in Texas, I expected another type of treatment. The food saved the night because everything was delicious. Congratulations to the chef. The atmosphere was also great.

Wow the food was amazing!! We ordered the chipotle chicken, tres enchiladas, and multiple tacos. I personally had the tres enchiladas and they were genuinely some of the best ones I’ve ever had, I especially liked the verde sauce. Our waiter, Eugene, was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and super helpful. He definitely kept our table entertained! Would 100% return if we are ever back in San Antonio, TX!

I’m surprised this place isn’t more busy. We were going to do bbq but there was a line out the door so we came back to Acenar for a meal (twice in a few days) seriously some of the best food I’ve had. Why empty?? We really enjoyed our visits here, the food was pretty good for Riverwalk fare. We had the green enchiladas and the fish tacos, we enjoyed it. The chocolate cake was nice. I had the tuna margarita on the rocks, it was good. The service was good here, though on our second visit on a Saturday, we should have gotten a reservation, we ended up eating at the bar, which was ok. But if you are coming in on the weekend or the evening, call ahead and see if you need a reservation, it gets busy.

Best Mexican-inspired food that we had in the 5 days that we were in the San Antonio Riverwalk area in our opinion. We chose to sit inside because of the afternoon sun, instead of by the river. The restaurant had a fun atmosphere inside. Our server was Roberto, and he was attentive and were pleased with the service. The oyster tacos and blue crab tacos were delicious. The guacamole was made at table side, but this seemed to be a common service in the restaurants along Riverwalk.

Worth a trip!! The food is delicious. So much flavor in every bite. The parrillada for 4 could easily feed 8-10. The corn tortillas are AMAZING. The salsa you get with your chips is delicious. The food was wonderful, great flavor and portions. Service was perfect! The only downside, not enough room for dessert! If that is the only downside, I'll take it!! More
