If there was a zero rating star, I would definitely give it to this hospital. I think this hospital is just against the medical profession completely. I drive my mom to the ER bc of the sharp pain in her abdomen and back. My mom lost consciousness when she entered the ER. My sister and I were waiting for 9 hours to see what’s wrong with my mom. Doctor diagnosed her with left kidney stone that’s large and require a procedure. She told us to move her to the hospital so the urologist will take care of her.I said okay bc my mom was in so much pain that I can’t control at home. They were injecting my mom morphine every 2 hours, and when I asked the general MD when the urologist will do the procedure, he was laughing and said it’s early we will keep your mom for 3 to 4 days. After the urologist came he didn’t do the procedure bc he wrote on my mom case that she can be under morphine. All the doctors disappeared on the weekend and whenever I asked the nurse she said we don’t have a doctor and we don’t know when the specialist is coming and even if he comes he won’t schedule your mom for the procedure. My moms body got weak bc of the morphine and stopped responding bc the pain was radiating to her heart. After three days, I told them ti transfer the case if they don’t have a specialist, and one of the nurses told me literally don’t dream and it’s a matter of insurance. This is completely against the medical field. I told her if they don’t have doctors I need to speak to her heir supervisor bc my mom was dying of pain. The supervisor showed up after 2 hours was telling me the plan pretty much is to discharge your mom tomorrow!!!! I was telling her what about the procedure, she was like I don’t know I don’t think your mom needs procedure!!!!!! I was like I will discharge my mom without ur doctor consent bc my mom was dying. And they didn’t transfer the case bc they told me it’s a matter of insurance. I took my mom to a different hospital with the risk of having a heart attack bc of them. When I reached the other hospital my mom was extremely tired. Beside all of that, my mom was sharing the room with another patient who was speaking the same language, and the women lost her breath. My sister called the nurse ti help the women. The nurse was laughing. After we discharged my mom, we heard the women passed away bc of their neglect . Beside that, there was a women in the next room, she was coughing all the time and it looks he has infectious disease, the door was always open and they didn’t protect other patients lives. If I can talk, I won’t finish until tomorrow. This hospital needs to learn the profession of medicine is to help people with the best of their abilities not to KILL people. Humanity comes first and they lacked this from the nurses to the doctors. Nothing worse than this hospital. I will definitely sue them!!
Over the last 2 months I've been in and out of the hospital and have had to go to a few hospitals in the area but overall my experience at Alvarado has been pretty good. the longest I waited to get a bed in the ER was about a hour and a half but most of the time it was less than 45min. the triage nurses were always very nice and remembered me and details about my medical issues. when it comes to the Drs I've had about a 50/50 experience with them. some have been wonderful and I've had a few that take over for the previous Dr and would simply rush to get me out. this happened the last time I was here. when I first came in, the Dr I was was great and he ordered the meds I needed and tests. it was found that some of my blood levels were off so I needed some antibiotics. his shift ended and some other female Dr took over and she was really rude, she abruptly came to the bedside, told me nothing was wrong and that she was sending me home, even though I couldn't keep fluids down and was in pain. I ended up having to come back a few days later to find out that the blood cultures they took were positive and my other levels were worse and so I needed to be admitted. I'm glad this new Dr took me seriously but frustrated I had to suffer for those few days

Worst hospital in all of San Diego county. This morning at about 3 AM my disabled brother was having severe chest pain. He called me and told me he felt like he was dying. I told him to call an ambulance, and fortunately he was taken to Alvarado hospital where he was ignored for hours at about 6 AM he was told he needed to leave because the trolleys weren’t running. They told him the hospital was not a hotel. he never even seen a doctor. When he said that he needed to see a doctor they told him he was fine and he needed to leave. The security guard also made a rude comments towards him. He told him he was there so he could find a place to sleep and that he was just playing the part. My brother could’ve died. He has heart disease and takes medication for heart failure. After reading all the reviews I’m not surprised that my brother was not the only one who was treated like trash by hospital personnel. People go to the hospital to stay alive not to be ignored and left to die.
When I got there it was just me in the waiting room. I was in so much pain complaining about my rib being fracture. The receptionist or what ever they called them said to have a seat. That she would call me as soon as she can. Then a white female came in with I don’t know what kind of pain so we both filling out paper work and the receptionist called me in and took my vitals made me sign paper work on a pad. Then said to me that they didn’t have no bed for me but as soon something was available that she would call me. So this girl that walk in after me was called in. They took her vitals and send her to a room. So I don’t know if her pain was more severe than mine or the receptionist was racial profiling me because I’m Mexican. How is it possible that the white girl got a bed and me being Mexican didn’t and that’s not right. She should have help the one that was there first. SMFH
I wasn’t helped because I told them I smoked weed , I wasn’t taking seriously after that. I told them I haven’t smoked or been able to hold down water or food in 6 days and I lost 20pounds in body weight and my pee was a brownish orange color and my lab results were out before I submitted my urine. They didn’t take my weight either. My pee is darker and my lower back hurts more now. They prescribed Promethazine and said I shouldn’t smoke even tho I explained I’ve had a history of stomach issues that shows it’ll pop up without weed and I need real stomach aid. I think if I would’ve lied I would’ve received actual help which seems unnecessary and unreasonable considering I’ve been helped for similar stomach issues with large amounts of weight loss . I was helped by the nurse or doctor named Nick .
I didn't know much about Alvarado Hospital until my surgery there a week ago, but I was so impressed, it compelled me to write this. Key phrases of my experience with Alvarado: Patients First, Family, Supportive, Calm, Professional, Reassuring. The hospital team was cohesive, capable, and worked really well together. They had a sense of humor, and made me feel safe and taken care of. Someone was by my side the entire time, so nervous or awkward waiting behind that hospital curtain to see who'd show up next and when. Dr Choll Kim and his medical team are the best. Compared to the bigger hospital institutions available to me in North County, Alvarado Hospital was exactly the right place to be for this pretty scary moment in my life.
The worst service ever the employees clearly don’t care about the patients. The Person who saw me diagnosed me off her phone literally googling my condition in front of me . I could have don’t that my self . I had so many questions but the provider was in a hurry to go home . She never came do discharge me like she said she would . I waited for my discharge papers for like 45 mins I went to ask the man at the desk about the status of my discharge papers and he had and attitude and told me to sit down . He never helped me . Keep in mind I was the only patient at the emergency room at the time . There was no excuse for The extremely poor service I received. Don’t waist your time at this horrible establishment.
this is the absolute worst hospital to exist. please never go here. my doctor told me to calm down and stop asking questions so he could have an easy night, told me if i shed a tear he’d restrain me from all fours and sedate me. nurses laughed at me while i had a panic attack, i was not hurting myself or anyone else and i was under control. i was told i didn’t deserve treatment and to look at all the sick people ahead of me because i have an invisible illness. they never gave me any of my meds, was there for dinner, breakfast, and lunch and they only let me eat one time. i was treating like a germ cell here. staff are horrible and the facility is gross. never go here.
Wow, Alvarado Hospital care was amazing! I had surgery there yesterday and I couldn't believe how kind and attentive all the staff were. They were right there to take care of all my needs, and the entire team was very careful to ask all the right questions to make sure nothing was missed. My procedure was outpatient so I left in the evening, but it was so pleasant there I was wishing I could spend the night! I traveled a long way to get surgery done here, and if I ever need another surgery this is my place. They went above and beyond for me. What a terrific hospital, the best experience I have ever had at a medical facility! Love Alvarado Hospital!
Since my previous post I have switched my whole medical team over to Alvarado and thanks to Dr. Z and his staff Charlotte and Esella, Dr. Hadi Jennifer and Marcello, Andrea and Don in PT with Sally and Lori, Dr. Michelin and Brian and the whole technology staff including Ileana who held my hand through my chemical stress test and everyone who welcomed my little angel, Eddie .. Thank you so much!! I am blessed. ❤ My experience checking in was professional and courteous. The technologist was wonderful, thorough and pleasant. Dr. Zamudio and his staff are top notch. I am in good hands. Thank you all for what you do.
I go to this hospital for physical therapy on my reconstructed knee. The physical therapist that I see, Andrea Reeves, is beyond fantastic. She takes an hour with me on each visit and she really does a great job of explaining exactly what she thinks my issues are and what we are going to do to address it. My knee has improved greatly under her care, and I highly recommend her. She really cares about her patients and she is technically excellent. I also want to say that I think the overall Physical therapy team does a good job of all working together well, and of being very polite and courteous at all times.
I spent 3 days at this hospital last November. The morning after I was admitted I started asking for a shower or some way to wash up a little. My request was ignored. Not only did I not get my shower...I didn't get a toothbrush... No hairbrush or comb... No mouthwash... Nothing for personal hygiene! Finally the last day just before I was released I pulled off my IV hook ups and walked out to the hallway and found the shower room myself... Then I had to get my own towel. This is definitely the worst hospital I have ever been in... And I have been in a lot of different hospitals. I wouldn't take my dog here.
Went to ER for my left foot, was left crying writhing in pain for 45 minutes before meds were given. Very disappointed. However, the 6 north staff were absolutely wonderfully kind and did an outstanding job, every single nurse was amazing. The Alvarado ER dept could learn a lesson in compassionate care from their nurses on 6 North and I will be making a formal statement to this. Thank you with all my love to Maria, Matt, Led, and the nurse who discharged me, your genuine kindness will not be forgotten. Also thanks to the staff who took me to CT scan and the radiologist who performed the scan
Today, November 16, 2023, I had out patient surgery. From Admission to being wheel chaired out I couldn't have had better personalized attention, treatment, and care. EVERYONE was excellent, knowledgeable, and thorough in the tasks. I wish I could remember everyone's name who I came in contact with. But the last 2 who helped were Janelle and Mindy. They represented the entire Team from Alvarado Hospital that made my day a memorable and positive experience. A sincere THANK YOU to everyone!! And THANK YOU Dr. Justin King, MD for your skill and encouraging personality!!
If it wasn’t for the 4/5 star RN’s & MA’s Making up for the lack of comprehensive care by the attending physician(s), I would be giving the “New” Alvarado emergency dept 00 stars!! Alvarado, has in the past, been my absolute favorite hospital experience ( if you can honestly have a good experience when in excruciating pain or deliriously ill). The Dr’s here had always seemed to go above expectations, and had provided exceptional care, that is obviously no longer the case or at least not the experience I had recently.
Went in for an abscess, said “dunno what it is here’s some antibiotics” did no tests. It popped, went back in. All they did was drain it didn’t clean it, didn’t take tests nothing. Said it was MRSA, keep it covered sent me home. Now I’m getting more all over my stomach and I’m having issues. I missed my grandpa’s funeral because they lied and said it was MRSA and it’s not contagious and come to find out— it is! Doctors might be nice but they only want you in and out doesn’t matter if you’re like the walking dead or not.
The only thing I disliked about being in Alvarado Hospital was when I pressed the button for the nurse it took them 30 minutes to come in and see what I needed or what was going on. Now if I was dying or had fell etc.... I would of been dead or in serious trouble! So my conclusion and suggestion to the nursing staff on the 5th floor! When a patient presses the call button come as soon as you can and not 30 minutes later because you never know what they are calling for! Other than that the Doctors and staff were great!!
I went in to this hospital on 4/3 /23 at 5 am I was feeling horrible . At 6 am a new doctor came and help me not sure what his name was but he was so nice and caring . He made sure I was comfortable and sent me home with some medicine that will help me feel better . This is day two and I’m getting my voice back and feeling way better . Also the receptionist Rn lady who was working was also nice and sanitize the area before sitting down . Over all great hospital .
I would give 5 stars only to Nurse Rene, but I had a couple of nurses that were so very unprofessional, talking about that they hate helping people, I feel like they picked the wrong career. On top of everything, one nurse took up my visiting time with my mom and acted all flirtatious with her in front of me. All of the nurses, except two, on the first floor act like they hate their lifes and judge anyone who looks different.
One of the worst hospitals, they do not take care of their patients, they are racist, they say my family member is not sick when she totally is, my family member entered with just one thing and now we are doing everything we can to get her out of this place because she has more infections by being there. She is dying. They do not have good communication. Think twice before going. Alvarado Hospital, you are the worst.
Love this hospital! Treated me with utmost respect. Staff in the ER are wonderful. Everyone is super nice and caring. Going out of their way to make me feel comfortable in a scary situation. 5th floor has excellent nurses. Very attentive, super friendly, and exceptional. Awesome PT and lab staff. Great at what they do. Always made me smile. Alvarado hospital gets 5 stars from me. Thank you everyone
Fastest ER visit of my life. The staff was very friendly, and the medical service was top notch. Diagnostic tests were done and medicine was prescribed within about 2 hours. I used to avoid this location due to the police bringing a lot of detainees around for treatment, but it went a lot better than I expected. I'll be back if I need another ER visit (hopefully won't but hey, life happens).
I got my purse stolen at this location. I wasn’t even given a bed or any IV. They had me waiting in the ER for hours just to give me Tylenol. Their security is limited and they just don’t even keep an eye out for anyone. It’s so limited. They don’t even check you in properly. They took my vitals after 6 hours of waiting for a bed!!!!! Disappointed they need to do better for an ER
I went in for hand pain/a finger infection that my doctor did not diagnose correctly, after 2 visits with her. Dr. Kulas and his staff were wonderful and got to the root of the issue quickly. The intake nurse was so kind, even though the emergency room was busy. I appreciate the kindness and most importantly, professional diagnosis to treat the issue quickly.
I am pleased and very satisfied. I am surprised it's my first time coming to this place. Everyone are so nice and helpful since I step my foot inside from front desk staff are so caring all the way through till the end I never have not seen everyone are well train and perform there duties really professional. You guys really did a good job well done...
Fastest ER I have ever been seen at or served by. In and out in 30 mins. The MD and ER Triage nurse were damned cute as well ( I would love to see them in a NON-medical setting!). It may have been the night I was there also, as there were only 3 patients in the ER waiting room (though all the ambulances outside indicated it was a busy night for them).
I want to Alvarado hospital because I have a severe cough and it turns out I had pneumonia the doctor there was really really good his bedside better was awesome l a lot of compassion very thorough and made me like he cared I appreciate him looking after me good doctor promising future and we need more like him
Went to the ER for a foot problem. Best experience ever. In and out of there in 3 hours for blood work, xrays, etc. Great staff. My MD was cool and the nurses and EMTs were exceptional. This ER is the best place in San Diego for emergency medical care and go there instead of the other ERs in San Diego.
Not that a hospital waiting room is not enjoyable. You're in a small room with a sick miserable people. But the staffers polite and comforting. The service was quick accurate and professional. And I would recommend it to anyone if given the choice of which hospital to go to choose Alvarado.
I’m always scared of going to the doctor, especially hospitals. However, the staff here was amazing and very attentive. Every person I encountered was very caring and empathizing. Huge shoutout to the nurse and paramedics who helped me. I know to come back here if I ever have more issues.
I had an excellent experience at Alvarado Hospital with my third endoscopy. Dr Reddy is the kindest doctor and an excellent gastroenterologist. I highly recommend him. Hopefully, all will settle and I will be good for the next 10 years. I am glad they are done with the covid tests.
Absolutely horrible. Doctors are dismissive. The risks for falling/tripping are tremendous. The safety of the patient is not taken into consideration at this hospital. Healthcare should be so much better than this. Do not, by any means, choose this facility if at all possible.
Do not go to the ER! They are very slow, I had to wait more than 12 hours just to get a room and surgery. Then, they did not ensure that I had the medication i needed for post op. I had to go back to the ER after leaving the hospital and wait once again to get my medications.
I had two visits to your ER recently, everyone from Adriana at the front desk, to David in imaging, Jess at Admit, Oscar my nurse, k my nurse, everyone was personable and exceptional in their field. Thank you for your compassion and your kindness. Sincerely, Nancy M assucco
My trip to the ER here was tremendous. My Doc and Nurse were amazing people along with the rest of the staff. What they do, they do with the up most kindness and genuine sincerity. Thank you Dr. Drohan and Nurse AJ, you made a bad time easier for me. Bless you
My nurses and my doctor were amazing. All my labs, tests, and x-rays were done within 30 min of me getting a bed. My nurses were compassionate and funny. They made me feel like I was the only patient. So glad I chose this emergency department over any others.
Your Dr. Dat Nguyen continues to put his clients in harms way he is always angry, insulting and unprofessional. Which is a shame because there are some great nurses there and other really good staff. He is a detriment to the other hard working RN's
Was completely overlooked, the receptionist/ front desk dismissed my concerns multiple times. I didn't receive a cup to provide a urine sample until 3 hours after my check in time.THE WORST SERVICE I EVER RECEIVED! ARRIVED AND LEFT IN PAIN !
Everyone was prompt, courteous and professional. The wait time could have been much shorter if the doctor's office had submitted all the required documents to the hospital, including information on my insurance coverage and policy providers.
Amazing! No other word describes best their service, all the nurses, Amy Olga, Sierra, Dakota and the last one, with a name I can’t remember, but who gave me a very kind and compassionate attention, all of them deserve 5 Stars out of five.
I’m in a 6 week PT secession to strengthen my back after having spine surgery. The Therapists are specifically trained to deal with my condition. It is intense but in the long run I should be in health.. Just completed my 3rd round of PT
Flew out here from S FL for surgery. Had my preop at the hospital and have to say it was absolutely painless and everyone were wonderful! As always, there was a bunch of paperwork and had to get some testing (COVID) but the staff made
I honestly can’t thank the staff enough at this emergency room . They went above and beyond my first visit to this facility everyone is friendly , professional and caring I saw doctor cohen he’s awesome thank you Alvarado ! Hospital
Everyone was so nice. All the healthcare workers seem to get along so well. They continuously asked if I needed anything. They seemed pretty transparent with me. Overall, really enjoyed it which feels weird to say for an emergency.
I had a bone scan at Alvarado Hospital on 09/19/2023. It’s a long procedure but every time I’ve been at Radiology at the hospital has been a wonderful experience. Tom is a real Sweetheart and went out of his way to make sure I was
Of all the hospital in San Diego this one by far is closest to the trolley. The nurses here are very kind and helpful. The emergency room was very fast move it move right along with the pace of the medical team in ER.
This was my first time going to Alvarado hospital as a patient. I was worried at first cuz the wait time for some people who were already in the waiting room was 2hrs with me being in so much pain .
I'm probably going to have to return. I only got 3 pain pills and that's clearly not enough. Nobody can prescribe more unless I go back. They should of just admitted me. Going back is a huge hassle.
I received amazing care in the ED and in the ICU. I can't remember everyones names, but Daniella, Magda and Taz were amazing !! They have great service skills and made my stay there comfortable.
The PT Don was very thorough and caring. He put me through all the required elements of my BALANCE REHAB. And was careful that I didn’t loose my balance during all the procedures .
This is the best hospital staff! Everyone here has been so nice, caring, and attentive. Staff/patient ratio has seemed to be very good. Shout out to Luke, awesome night nurse!
Alvarado emergency department continue to give excellent healthcare . Thank you entire emergency department for your professionalism and excellent customer service care.
The emergency room staff was so. Helpful and I appreciate the nurses and the doctors and all the technicians that did the test and I thank you. Lavette hudson
Alvarado was amazing! I had a wonderful experience. Everything was so clean, the nurses and Dr were so nice and attended to me quickly and efficiently
I brought my son to this hospital for ankle sprain. They are compassionate, efficient and professional in taking care of their patients. Great job!!!!
Very professional! I was in and out of there in no time. Very companionate! Gave me medicine and fully explained how to treat my injury.
My experience was really good. My doctor, my nurses was very nice and they take care of me really good. I appreciated thank you
I received assistance quickly from the sign-in, registration, preliminary care & Doctor. All were professional & attentive.
If you value your life, DONT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL! The ER is HORRIBLE. They treat people like garbage.
