Some friends and I went for the Erotic Art show last night. It was my first time at this venue and it will be my last. The very tiny house and backyard, essentially what the venue is, were so jam packed that noone had any room to move; by far a fire hazard. I could barely enjoy the art work due to the rushed and cramped atmosphere. I saw a gentleman , who I believe owns the venue screaming at the front door at security. And I don't mean for logical reasons. Then after some confusion had the same "manager" being completely rude to my friends and I. In his defense, we found a spot on a stairwell that was off limits. However, in our defense it WAS NOT clearly marked for no entry. If you want people to stay out a sign that states no entry would be sufficent. With that said instead of asking nicely we were barked at and treated extremely rudely!!! The man had no quams about his response. When asked if he was the manager he responded by storming away and he shouted "Something like that." As a business owner, I could NEVER speak to clients in that way. From what I was told by a staff member that is a normal occurance. Again the show was well done however the venue, itself, did not allow me to fully enjoy the show. And the experience with the "something like that" manager( his words when asked if he was management) left a foul impression of management. I will not be going back to this venue. There are much more friendly and comfortable venues and galleries in the area that I will enjoy.

Walmart of art houses. Been to a few exhibits here and not really impressed with the staff or the space. Very small space with small outdoor area. Last night was the last time I’ll try to go here. What a terribly unorganized event. They posted tickets for super freak where $30 or $40 at door. I prefer to live my life with cash and have little trust in banks. Flyer for show said 6. We showed up at 645 and was told they won’t let people buy tickets till all the presale people showed up there was one couple in line at this time Guy at the door was very rude and not a nice person at all. He kept telling us just to wait a few moments. Doors didn’t open till after 7. Maybe post that on the flyers. Finally at 8pm we decided to go some where else and not stand out side in the cold in hopes of getting in. They should really post on the flyers that tickets will not be sold at the door. I’d did hear from others in-line it’s not worth the $40 ticket price. I’ve been to public events at APEX that have the same exhibits and demos for a very nominal fee. Plus there staff is so friendly and welcoming. Here’s the thing if you’re use to art shows in major city’s NY, Chicago, SF, or LA you’ll be disappointed. This place is run like your trying to get into Disneyland. It’s awkward and uncomfortable since the staff is not friendly at all. They charge a lot for entry even when there’s vendors that I’m sure pay them to also be there.

I went to the Alwun House for a friends "solo" show opening night. The Alwun House also had ASU doing a show outside at the same time. I showed up about 10 pm with my service dog..I was asked if I still wanted to come in because it was late. After paying 12$ per person, there were 2 loose great danes that I asked them to put away due to me having my service dog....The owner seemed very bothered by that but did end up putting them away. The band was over, there were no snacks and every person there was brought by the artist. You would think that for a SOLO show, they would have only his stuff. Also, there were no promotions for the show, there was nobody brought in by the Alwun that were in any way in a place to afford a custom piece of art... Horrible way to do business!

I've been a part of Alwun events for about 10 years, both as an event performer and attendee. It's one of my very favorite venues in the Valley. If you love art, poetry, music, burlesque, and culture, this is the place to find it. It's a quirky and fabulous historical spot that's been nestled in a quiet Roosevelt neighborood for 50 years and counting. Kim and Dana have created an incedible legacy and are big supporters of both new and seasoned artists, as well as their local community. The Monster Ball in October and the Exotic event in February are must sees. Alwun is a gem unlike any other.

This colorful house has stood at the corner of 12th st and Roosevelt since 1912. I personally drove past it for years wondering what the story was behind this unique building for years. Come to find out, it is a wonderful non-profit with a fever for the arts. This gem hosts both an art gallery and talent of all sorts week in and week out. From live readings of banned literature to scantily clad burlesque performances and everything in between, this ol’ house will fill your thrills. The best part of it all is the two brains behind the operation. Come through and support your local artists!

Alwun House is that rare combination, in any city or town, but especially in Phoenix where art meets local culture with great results. Come here to see fabulous art shows as well as music, spoken word, acrobats, educational and meet one of the widest cross sections/ variety of folks living in Phoenix, all ages, all backgrounds. You will be well and truly welcome here, that's not just lip service (this place was "diverse" decades before it was a thing). Come for the art, stay for the entertainment, and come back with the friends you make.

After doing a few performances here years ago, I came back to have our wedding. Best. Decision. Ever. Beautiful place day or night, it's a hidden gem with a whole lot of heart and a stunning garden. Dana and the guys here (and their cutie pie great dane) made sure our day was special. All of our guests fell in love with this place. And we had an art gallery at our wedding, how rad is that?! Unbeatable place for artists, we would choose the historic Alwun House over and over, every time!!!

Excellent, unique and funky, with portions eclectic and surreal, artistically macabre, occasionally sensuous, bodaciously Victorian, cool and hip, beatnik-ish and ultra-pop, gnarly and exceptional, exotic and mystifying, wickedly bizarre and melancholically entertaining – just a few thoughts that come to mind about this find. Frequent exhibitions are always worth the visit… cannot wait for my next drop-in! Well worth a visit, you’ll find it intriguing and amusing!

Went here with a friend for a random circus and concert night. Gorgeous old home with a great big backyard for events. Take cash, as they do not take cards or have an ATM. The show was eclectic and fun with all skill levels. The featured band was good. My only gripe, if you could call it that, was I expected the Puddles the Clown advertised to be the one from Puddles' Pity Party. It was not and I was sad.

I feel like I didn't get my money's worth but only because I had to leave about an hour into the show to pick my daughter up from her job. Excellent atmosphere. Lovely crowd. Fun, talented performers. The single downside,? No food, snacks, treats. So, if you decide to go, eat dinner first. Will most likely return in the near future.

Pandoras Circus of Sin was performed with the talent and production values of a middle school Thanksgiving skit. My friends and I were very disappointed. We would have left after the first act if it weren't for the raffle tickets one of our party had foolishly purchased. The MC was the only bright spot in an otherwise dull evening.

  • Bill Biddix

Worst waste of $30 ever! Stood on the sidewalk for 40 minutes because they would sell tickets until the event started. Then waited an hour for the show to actually start, after the scheduled time. Then, 3 minutes after the show started, told I couldn't sit where I had already been for an hour. Absolutely a waste of time & money!

This place has it all. At least all that I've ever wanted. It has a stage where I can play out my failed dreams of being vaudevillian style comedian. It has its own bar where I can reenact scenes from that Kevin Bacon movie where he makes cocktails for a bunch of people I think it was called Footloose.

What a great place to see. Every holiday they decorate the place for all seasons. Halloween was my favorite. They had a giant spider inn front of the historic house. The house is painted an array of colors. It is a landmark for sure. Events are always on the calender. Super cool place! A must see.

  • Shawn Patrick

It's a beautiful location and house. There are pieces of art all over, the atmosphere is comfortable and inviting and it's a bit secluded in a downtown setting. Worth checking out, it's one of the coolest places I've come across in the past year. It definitely warrants a return visit from me.

  • Lindsey Rogers

This is my favorite event venue in Phoenix! Kim and Dana, the founders, are by far the most gracious, hosbitable hosts. I've attended numerous events over the years and there wasn't one that I didn't enjoy. The shows produced here and the art displayed are like none other in the valley.

  • S Hemry

Hidden in plain sight is the Alwun House on Roosevelt and 12th st. The layout of the garden, patio / showplace, and gallery will surprise the unprepared visitor. This unique space has a park next door hosting art and music performance. This square back caught my eye at sunset.

  • Guadalupe Mendoza

I have been a member for over thirty years. Have attended a variety of great events. Seen lots of great art and have sold and purchased some. Have met some really interesting people, artists, politicians, professors, lawyers and sports figures. I always have a great time.

  • Chris F. Campbell

My first visit to Alwun House was in 1986. To be honest, I don't recall the show but I've been a fan forever. Exotic 17 on 2/10/2017 was fantastic as usual. The experience at Alwun House always takes to wonderful places I can not otherwise go. Thanks Dana and Kim

Alwun house; Is the opening spots for one of my most awaited events. A Night of Misfit Films!! It is a beautiful place to house any art exhibits. It is a historic site with a history of being a unique venue to vqlidate the oppressed artists and estranged actors.

  • Meredith Propper

Been to many exhibits, shows and events at Alwun in last 30 years. Always a blast and frequently come home with something fun and beautiful. Highly suggest them for a sexy date night! Check their calendar, they always have killer entertainment ❣️

  • John K

Don’t know much about history, don’t know much biology, don’t know much about the French I took, don’t know much about the science book but what I do know is this place has got what it takes. Whatever that means for you, get it

  • RBL 4NiK8r

Heard there was an art show from someone local, and one of the first events after the past year of CoVid. The had food truck behind the place which we ate at, and had some beverages outside the house, was a good time.

  • C Guss

Was a fun venue for a friend's performing troop. And a nice art gallery. The staff was accommodating and nice, even the hired security personnel. The prices are also very reasonable given the quality of the venue.

  • J Nyhel

A great venue for the arts, as well as live entertainment. The Alwun foundation has also done amazing things for the Phoenix arts district. If you've never been, I recommend checking it out.

  • Myriah Scarpati-Graham

They're one of the oldest gallerys in Phoenix. Visual, fine, and performance art exhibition at this place. Plus if you're trapped in a down pour they have the BEST porch for staying dry...

  • Is Raining Cows

Amazing spot! They often organize fun and alternative events. Their patio area is nicely put together, complete with a stage for artists to perform, and a small bar. Always a blast!

  • Asa Trujillo

Really a semi-hidden Phoenix treasure, with regular art shows and events... feels like you got invited to the cool party your "art friends" threw. Go, donate if possible, and enjoy.

  • Torin Sadow

Super cool! Gorgeous architecture and setting, all in the middle of the Garfield district. Never even knew it was there until the Halloween party they throw, which was top notch

  • Brian T

My bohemian art place. Art can be more adult oriented or out there. Situated in an early 19th century home. You can rent out the place for a small wedding in the backyard.

  • Abeah Hunter

Had a great experience here as the venue for the reception of my recent nuptials. Dana was wonderful and very accommodating. The space has good vibes and good energy.

  • Armella “QueenVoney” Gaines

This is a beautiful space. They have a garden space, a stage, a bar, and a gallery area that you can rent for weddings or events. The staff is friendly and welcoming.

  • Dave Block

This was my first time here. It is a non-profit venue for the arts. Sound system was a bit campy, but I guess that’s what we all came to see. It’s run by volunteers

  • Stephen Masters

Great art been around for years, always having good events and it is a lovely venue for that. If you are lucky you can see the Great Danes that protect the place.

  • Robert Womer

Interesting house. What I was able to see. Apparently it has an upper floor accessible from the outside that I didn't get a look at. Maybe another time.

  • Brendon Hebert

Great little art venue with a stage. Definitely an arts "must visit". Been here several times for local acts of music, circus and even a wedding.

  • Shaun “Laubster” Laub

Very unique experience. Lovely art house and theatre courtyard. The vibe at this event was magical and comical all at once. Can't wait to go back

  • Lydia Quinones

Very unusual shows with local artists, beautiful outdoor seating, unfortunately off the beaten path of the art wall so you'll need to drive.

  • Rachel Straube

Exotica was my first time here and it was fabulous. The show and the art were both captivating. I highly recommend attending an event here.

  • Carri Stoughton

This was truly a experience I will never forget. I think every one should check it out. (Adults only) at least for the exotic art show.

Great art and wonderful people!! They have been there 55 Years they must be doing something right. Beautiful gardens to welcome you.

  • Diana “Di” Spies

Very cool set up although set up of the bar outside right by the walkway makes for a very crowded and claustrophobic space.
