Get thee to the museum! Visit your favorites or enjoy the new. The Texas Prairie Grass inspired exhibition just opened and be prepared to be captivated. As an outdoor inspired Texan, this show spoke to my heart in the language that reads nature in all her mystery. I could hear the wind and feel the Prairie Grasses of my grandparents' pastures as my eyes and heart devoured each inch of this space. If abstraction is more to your liking, head up the rainbow topped stairs to the recently opened mid-century sculptural and lithograph pieces to see what they become with your viewing. And see if, like me, your mind goes wild with conjecture as you walk up the ramps lined with an installation designed specifically for this space at the Amon Carter. As always, the museum is free but welcomes donations!

I've been enjoying this museum since my first trip in 1970 when I was in elementary school on a field trip. And when I think about the Amon Carter museum I immediately think about the painting Parson Weems' Fable" by Grant Wood. I also enjoy the perfect placement of the museum to where you can stand on the steps and look out at the beautiful view of downtown Fort Worth from an elevated point. The placement of the sculptures "Upright Motive No. 2, 7, and Glenkiln Cross by Henry Moore in the eastern edge of the plaza even adds to the beauty of that view! In 1976 Henry Moore visited his work and said "I love to see the sky as a background for my sculpture, it's often a better background than any other."

My first visit got the Amon Carter Museum. Entry is free. There is a recommended donation box off to the side as you enter. I had to move fast as I didn’t have much time. It’s not large a museum. I would think 45-90 mins would be enough for most people. Mix of art mediums and time periods covered. It’s an American art museum so by definition you are not looking at ancient artifacts. Some modern art. I saw some pieces from this year. There is a small gift shop. It sells some drinks and food I think but I wouldn’t go so far as to call it a cafe. There is a parking lot and overflow parking both are free.

I just moved to Fort Worth 3 months ago. And I am absolutely in love. The entire city has such a sophisticated but warm, small-town feel. Lovely and clean downtown, good traffic system (esp after Austin) and eady parking options. But the variety of museums and theater are unparalleled by any other city in Texas. The Bass family and their contributions have really done amazing things for this city - everything is so well-done. The Amin Carter museum is a must-see. Their exhibits are stunning and so so interesting with a variety of contributions from all different types of artists. Highly recommend.

Good art museum if you’re a fan of Western art such as Remington, horses, cowboys. Miscellaneous displays of other American art lack focus. Not enough of any one type of thing to make up a whole room. The building itself lacks interesting architectural features and is reminiscent of state university buildings of the modern era. Veranda area seems empty and wasted but useful for events. Beautiful view. I got the impression the Carter museum lacks support, big donors, or direction. But maybe they have plans. Perfect location. Easy to get to on the culture trolley.

Super interesting exhibits, some permanent and some rotating, plus it's free. Perfect spot for a day date - has a nice lawn area out front too that we sat on for a bit. Wasn't crowded at all on a weekday afternoon, gave us plenty of time to look at everything and move at our own pace. It's close to other art museums downtown as well - finding the parking was the only tricky part, but I feel like that's par for the course with any place downtown.

A great museum of American art that I loved! Oil on canvas paintings are excellent in which the excellent American artists have dipicted American life and history in 19th and 20th centuries in details! You will also find many wonderful bronze and a few marble, wood and plaster art, and Texas Cabinet is interesting as well. Try to allocate enough time to see all precious art pieces slowly, and please don't forget to see "Ease" by great artist William M. Harnett in second floor: Details have been showed incredibly by oil painting!
It was our very first time visiting. My kiddos love art and appreciate any museum. However, some of the staff need training on how to acknowledge a parent with children and not threaten to get security because my art loving son was checking out the details in the painting a little closer. He accused us of not being a foot away and that it was the 3rd time telling us about it! He asked once. Wow! My littles loved the art but that little incident is what they'll remember, sadly.
Beautiful museum and collections. On the day I went to see the BLACK EVERY DAY exhibit. Sit was amazing to see black people shown in the excellence of everyday life. It’s inspiring in my own quest to photography life in America. Many of the other collections drew my attention also. I learn about Amon Carter, Remington, Lachaise, Steele, and many more.

I visited a few years back and recall the impression I had of looking at some of these paintings; the size and enormity of some of them really needs to be appreciated up close. Though many of these were painted during the early stages of photography, the paintings seem to be one of the best ways for the scenery to come alive. Even when paintings worked well as a median, some of the best photography of native Americans had also been on display.
I normally can not understand art, but this place changed that. Each piece had a little background on the artist and the particular piece of art. There was a wide variety with photographs, painting, statues, and other beautiful forms of creativity. I definitely recommend this free museum if you are looking for something to do.

Took my two year old for a kids activity day (Art tales). He was a little young to really enjoy it, but I’m glad to expose him to things he’s not quite into yet anyway! The parking lot is annoyingly small; arrived at 10:07 and it was already full, but there was cheap street parking down the hill. I studied Richard Avedon during my university degree in photography so it was fun to see some of his work in the collection!
I really enjoyed a day trip at the Amon Carter Museum. I'm a graphic designer, and the exhibit and installation pieces really inspire my line of work.

It's a great place to visit with/ without kids. The entrance and parking is free. We loved the exhibit, they have a small library and gift shop. The kids also loved their grounds. I would definitely recommend a visit.
The Amon Carter Museum has an amazing collection of American art. In addition to Western paintings by Remington and Russell, they also have great works by other artists, including Georgia O'Keeffe and Grant Wood.
I've always loved the Amon Carter. Their permanent collection has some wonderful landscapes and of course one of the largest Remington collections I've ever seen.
Perfect place to escape the heat and enjoy some awesome art! We were even asked if we wanted to join a guided tour. Staff is very friendly and pleasant.
I really enjoyed the Amon Carter Museum. I would recommend it to every art-lover
