I've never been so mad at an insurer. This came about due to agent negligence. My husband and I have had insurance through Amtex for a while. We had two vehicles insured through them, both under my name with my husband listed as a driver. I took out a new policy for myself, and my husband on July 12th. My vehicle had been having issues for a while and unfortunately after I opened my new policy it was only about 4 days before my vehicle stopped running completely. I wasn't sure when or if I'd be able to get it repaired. So I went in person, July 19th to cancel the policy for MY vehicle ONLY. I was very specific about which policy was to be canceled and was given a paper to sign by Veronica where she wrote that my reason for cancelation was due to my vehicle not working. I left and thought that was that, then on August 3rd I got a call from Amtex. Telling me my policy hadn't been paid for my husbands vehicle. It was set on auto pay so I was confused, but told her we could process it right now. She informed me that the policy had failed payment on July 19th. I asked her if that was the case, why am I just now receiving notification? On August 3rd, about two weeks later? She looked at my account and then told me she had it wrong that the policy was canceled by ME on the 19th. I clarified that she was talking about my husband's vehicle and she stated she was. I told her there must be a mistake, because I only canceled the policy for MY vehicle due to it being inoperable at the moment. I asked if the policies had been mixed up and Veronica had canceled my husbands instead of my own. She checked and said no, BOTH policies were canceled on the 19th. She stated I signed the form. I said yes, I signed to cancel MY policy, not both. I explained that my husbands vehicle is not yet paid off and by not having insurance we run a risk of having it repossessed by the dealer, and now they're telling me we've been uninsured all this time? She told me I could call the office I went to and try to have them reinstate the insurance he had, or start a new policy. Of course if you start a new policy you have to pay a start up fee, and I shouldn't have to do that because this mistake shouldn't have happened. So I called the office on perrin beitel at 12:30pm and Veronica answered. I explained what happened, and by this point it was clear I was upset. She told me to give her some time and she'd call back shortly. I called back at 1:20pm and the call was forwarded to the blanco office. They called Veronica for me and I was told she went on lunch and will be back at 2:30pm. I called back at 2:36pm and spoke again with Veronica, who told me she was still trying to work it out with the insurer, and that she had a customer. I waited and called back at 4:29pm. Veronica stated she'd been busy and asked for another 30 minutes to "keep working on it" and to call back at 5pm. I hung up and called back at 5:17pm. The call rang for about 3-4 minutes and never answered. The office is open til 7pm so I know they weren't closed. I then got fed up and called the corporate office. It took about 5 days to deal with (weekend caused delay) before I was eventually told that the insurer couldn't reinstate the policy my husband had. During this time I never heard back from Veronica, and I assume she learned my number due to office phone not being answered when I tried to call. She never even apologized for the problems she caused. I called another Amtex office and tried to open a new policy for my husband, only to find that now our monthly rate is going up by about $150 due to us having opened a policy for only a week and then canceling and also for a penalty for being uninsured for about 3 weeks at that point. Unfortunately that also followed us to other insurers. We had a monthly premium of $220 and now it's $375. So we're quite literally paying for HER mistake. We left Amtex. I work in another part of the insurance industry and if I had done something like this I know the consequences I'd face. I hope she's penalized. Horribly unprofessional and incompetent!

I had such a pleasant experience with Debra this afternoon, as I was very overwhelmed with how high the market has gone up for auto insurance I had been on the phone with multiple agents trying to find a good price for full coverage. Her spirit was personable and professional, she guided me through the steps so I didn’t have to go on site to sign anything so the convenience of everything being e signed was super convenient. I’m more than content with the way she was punctual and also a pleasant persona to speak on the phone with. Thank you Debra for your amazing customer service! You rock!
